01:08fast on his feet, he's got rapid-like combinations of, seen plenty of him, Shekov, and he's very, very decent,
01:1717 victories, the one draw on the record, the only minor blemish, he's been around since 2018, so a while,
01:24and I think he really wants this.
01:29World title shot, he's ranked number 3 WBA, 8 in the IVF, 8 in the WBO, and it's going to
01:36take a good fighter to beat him.
01:37Yeah, good count, is it, for Shekov, off the corner there, but he don't want to be stuck in that
01:42corner too long, he can't move well, and he's happy to back up and then spin off, but,
01:47someone back in court, he can get you in the corner, it's more than the ropes in the corner, he
01:51can let his hands go, and he is a heavy hitter, so,
01:55Shekov, got to be careful, retreating too much, too often here.
01:5921 knockouts on the slate for Betancourt, you can't switch off for a moment,
02:05it's a great clash of styles, the heavy hands,
02:08of the man from Los Tegas, and the fluid rhythm, and the silky skills of the southpaw, Shekov.
02:19There's so much movement already in his first round here from Shekov, constantly left the right all the time, in
02:25and out with the feet,
02:26just trying to keep Betancourt from really a moment in the attack, just readjusting that distance with Bonkser back and
02:32forth all the time,
02:33so he can't really let his hands go with real conviction.
02:36He's real class, he had a very good amateur career, he's a great gym fighter as well,
02:41but he was down in his last fight against Rodrigo Ruiz from Argentina, who was 22-0,
02:48came in the seventh round, he held his feet for a second too long, and that can happen,
02:54especially as the rounds tick by, so, Betancourt will know that,
02:58and he knows he's got the arsenal to put your lights out at virtually any stage,
03:04so it's a fascinating one, he's got to keep switched on here,
03:07Shekov boxing well in this under, but it's a long fight, 12 rounds, a final eliminator,
03:14can he get it right, when he's so close, to a challenge, for the world title?
03:21He's real well in this round, Shekov, enough to, to take the rounds, you know, just on activity alone.
03:30Yeah, I really like watching him, Nikita Zong, Varyk Tukov, but this guy, Varyk Tukov,
03:36I think he's got real ability, he's got maybe elite skills, just got to be careful when he stays in
03:44the pocket for a second too long,
03:46it is a style based so much on reflexes, and he is 33.
03:50It is, and there'll be no panic on Betancourt, because if you get close enough, a few times,
03:55enough to think, you know, I know where to get there now,
03:57but, and also, he'll know, the early rounds are going to be more difficult because Shekov's going to be full
04:01of, full of life, full of energy,
04:03and it's just about trying to get a little bit of energy as quick as he can, and just try
04:07and walk him down,
04:08and just get a little bit of success, Nikita round or two in the early rounds, to pay dividends down
04:13the stretch.
04:15He's very experienced, box in the World Series of Boxing 2, that draw was very early on in his career,
04:22against Pagol Nikkermanov, couple of split points, wins on the record as well,
04:27Betancourt's lost two on a split to Michael Beaumont, and also in May 2023 to the undefeated Raphael Pedroza,
04:38so, these guys have fought in high class, WBA number three in Shekov, number six in Betancourt, it's a good
04:46match,
04:48stylistically, and feel the crowd's energy, just getting more excited as we close in towards the return of Dimitri Bevel.
04:59And again, a good start of the round here from Shekov there, nice fast hands, fast feet, constantly moving,
05:05changing direction as well, which is also very important, just not allowing the bigger puncher with the wide stance here,
05:12with Betancourt to smooth, set his feet in at the puncher's goal.
05:22Just advancing forward at those black and silver shorts, here at the Betancourt, who's 26,
05:30so, can he utilise the seven year age difference to his advantage, fresher?
05:39That's Betancourt there, just dipping those legs.
05:42Hurling out the left hook, which is the shot that has troubled Shekov before, he throws that really well,
05:49he'll be looking to disguise it.
05:52But the left hook works so well for assaulting, because it can go at the line of vision,
05:57especially if you take a step over to the left, it's too far out, their proof of vision is sort
06:02of blinded there,
06:03and you come back with it, and you don't see if it's too late.
06:05Letting the hooks go here, trying to trap him on the ropes, he wants to make it rugged,
06:11does Betancourt, turning into a street fight, the Venezuelan.
06:15Yeah, but Shekov, you know, maybe at the Betancourt, he's doing the more punch than that in our combination,
06:19he wasn't afraid to let his hands go, in the part of the range you think he should be looking
06:23to be safe and moved.
06:24There's a cut by the left eye, I think there's some damage there, certainly of Betancourt, there's a puffiness,
06:32that's, um, just beginning to appear in this second round, 45 left, it's, um, just lit fire here.

06:44He's not having loads of success here at Betancourt, but he's making Shekov work hard.
06:49Yeah, it's good work, the combinations, not everything landing, but he certainly, um, put the accelerator pedal on there.
06:56Yeah, and unlike the last contest, the Popesci, the foot put in Betancourt, putting Shekov under a little bit of
07:05pressure,
07:05he's coping with it quite well, he's still moving through him, but it is putting the pressure, he can feel
07:09it.
07:09Yeah, nice, neat shots from Shekov, but he's only got four stoppages on the record, he has to go the
07:16long haul,
07:17and as you were saying, at world level, you need that bit of power, you need that bit of snap.

08:04The thing is though, I would say about moving, people just presume, they're going to get tired.

08:13so, you know, sometimes people are shocked when it's round nine, and you're still, and you're still bouncy on your
08:19feet.
08:20Wasn't actually a cut, it's scarred damage on that left eye of Betancourt,
08:25but just looked like it was worsening under the sharp artillery of Shekov here,
08:32who's again dancing his way around, we talked about foot movement earlier, look at that,
08:37he really is getting every bit of that canvas.
08:42Trying to put the ring off there, here, Betancourt.
08:46It's a fascinating battle, isn't it, the two styles.
08:51He cuts up to the left, okay, slides his foot across with the right foot,
08:54you've got to take a bigger step with the right foot.
08:57Good counter work from Shekov there, back to the ropes, in and out,
09:00the precision, but he's got to keep this whirling dervish from Venezuela at bay,
09:07who will continue to force his way forward.
09:10Those losses on the record have been very close and controversial,
09:15so he's got a good chin, he's solid enough Betancourt,
09:19he might not have the supreme technical ability that Shekov possesses,
09:23but he's got bottles of heart and experience, and he's young.
09:27Yeah, he's got good rhythm to his work as well, he doesn't massively load up with his shots,
09:31but because the rhythm's good, he'll turn that body, and that's where he gets the,
09:35sort of that explosiveness at the end of the punch, when he can land in range.
09:39And the minister's struggling to find that range, but he's still,
09:42he's still making Shekov work hard.
09:45He's got to try, and I certainly, if he loses this wrong Betancourt,
09:48then he's going to start, really have to start making inroads.
09:52It's just a bit more intensity. The pressure with the feet's good.
09:56It's interesting.
09:57He's still going around with the shots.
09:58Barry, look at that hole, Gonzalo, Garcia, who's very disappointing,
10:02SebastiƔn Profeche, who was better at yearning Betancourt,
10:06as the away fighter here, at number six to the number three,
10:10has certainly made a better start, even if he's not winning them.
10:14Yeah, he really has.
10:20He's got fast hands himself, so double up that jab,
10:22and it's good against the southpaw, so it's hard to hit the target,
10:25but sometimes doubling up the jab is not about hitting the target,
10:28it's about getting your feet closer to land that right hand on the target.
10:32To make an impression, feel something with that, with that power shot.
10:39Again, light on his feet, the southpaw from Uzbekistan,
10:44are now settled in Katerinberg in Russia.

12:36but this would be the one, the final eliminator for a world title.

12:51But Charlie's a good fighter.
12:52I mean, you know, he didn't look fantastic last night,
12:55but that wasn't because of him.

12:57I thought, especially the first half of the fight.
13:00Really boxed with a lovely rhythm and a relaxed feeling.
13:04And look at Shekhov here.
13:05He's very comfortable, isn't he, in his own style.
13:09And he's good to see the fire back.
13:11You know, Betancourt had him on the road since the start of this round here.
13:13And so, you know, we've got to let his punches go.
13:16And then Shekhov fires back with a combination,
13:18but a little bit of spiked in the shots.
13:21He hasn't got the power.
13:22I don't think they'll massively worry you.
13:23But as long as you can keep him away,
13:25that's when you're not a puncher, that should be your first thought.

13:30Bending him off with a jab on that left hand.
13:32A swift combination.
13:35He's got speed.
13:36He's got these advantages over Betancourt,
13:38but he doesn't have as much power.
13:41And that's the fascination, the curiosity around this one.

13:47He feels at home at the moment,
13:49but it's early in the fight.

16:00And hopefully he can do the work that that pressure deserves.
