00:00High five, they're giving me a unit up here.
00:02Have you seen her before?
00:03Sir.
00:03Have you seen her before?
00:05There's clothes in the boys' bathroom and the bag.
00:07He changed his clothes.
00:09I'm about to lose my s**t going through a lot.
00:10My kid shows up missing and we didn't do anything or put him in a database.
00:15That's unacceptable.
00:16Put your hands on your back now.
00:18For sure.
00:19Are you kidding me right now?
00:22When police in Xenia, Ohio receive a call about a strange man
00:26claiming to be the parent of a young girl at a kindergarten ice cream social,
00:30they can't possibly imagine the twisted depths of the man's motives
00:35or what lengths he will go to to conceal them and escape.
00:39The majority of the body camera footage in the following video
00:43has never been seen before,
00:45and information included in the video was obtained through actual police reports.
00:50On August 22nd, 2022,
00:52St. Brigid Catholic School was holding their annual orientation in ice cream social.
00:58It was a time for their students, preschool through eighth grade,
01:02to come in with their parents, get to know their teachers,
01:05and enjoy ice cream in a safe, welcoming environment.
01:09On this day, however, the environment was anything but safe,
01:13all because of one man.
01:16He's the one they're after, but I'm...
01:20After receiving a call that there was an unknown man posing as a student's father,
01:25several police officers raced to the quaint school and split into groups,
01:29trying to get to the bottom of the chaotic scene of frazzled teachers,
01:33furious parents, and terrified children.
01:36Of course, the questioning begins with the strange man at the scene.
01:40What's going on, man?
01:42I'm Officer Peters. What's your name, my man?
01:45What is it?
01:46Weed.
01:46Weed?
01:47Weed.
01:48Weed?
01:48As in, like, W-E-E-D?
01:50That it is? Okay.
01:51So what are you here for today?
01:56Um, people thought I was here to, um, I guess, follow some of these challenges,
02:05but I'm having a lot of psychological problems.
02:10You're having psychological problems?
02:12What kind of psychological problems are you having?
02:15Are you, like, diagnosed with anything, like, that you know of or anything like that?
02:20Um, so, possibly, like, kind of, it's like a general diagnosis, but it's something that's gotten worse.
02:33So what kind of psychological issues are you, like, what are you, in more of a description way,
02:38like, what are you feeling?
02:43Paranoid.
02:44Do you know anybody here?
02:47No.
02:50You don't know anybody here?
02:52You don't know anybody's kids, nothing like that?
02:55Okay, you from Zeno?
03:00Um, Fairborn.
03:01Fairborn area?
03:02How'd you end up here today, then?
03:03Like, how'd you get to St. Bridget?
03:05No.
03:08Well...
03:08The suspect's hesitation and long breaks before answering questions is undeniably odd.
03:14But is it because of his self-proclaimed psychological issues,
03:17or is that just an excuse to give him time to come up with an innocent cover story
03:22for being at an elementary school?
03:24As you'll see, he has some trouble keeping his story consistent.
03:29Fairborn area, how'd you end up here today, then?
03:31Like, how'd you get to St. Bridget?
03:35Uh, heading to, uh, the ER.
03:41Okay.
03:41To GMA, like, Green Memorial?
03:43Is that where you were trying to get to?
03:46Okay.
03:46How'd you end up here today?
03:48Like, how'd you, did you walk from Fairborn, or, like, how'd you get here?
03:51Actually, I drove.
03:53Hmm?
03:55I drove.
03:56You drove here?
03:57Okay.
03:57Is your car here?
03:58Yeah.
03:59The suspect is actually telling the truth here.
04:02His car is on school grounds, and what they will soon find in it is not only stomach-churning,
04:08but brings to question what disturbing secrets could possibly lie in this man's past.
04:13Okay.
04:14Do you have an ID on you, my man?
04:15The police officer looks over the suspect's ID and confirms that his name is Reed, not
04:21Weed, as he agreed when the questioning began.
04:24He discovers that Reed is a 35-year-old native of nearby Fairborn, Ohio, and he has no arrests
04:31on his record, yet at least.
04:34What drew you to come here?
04:36Because they're, I'm just going off of what I've heard so far.
04:39They're trying to get more of the full story right now, but from what I've heard, you basically
04:42said that you knew a kid here, or you had a kid that went here, and they asked you who
04:49that kid was, and you couldn't give him a kid name, and I'm trying to figure out why
04:51you're saying that.
04:53I can start with J to kind of save that kid here.
04:58So you came here, you gave a name with the J, right, is what you're trying to say.
05:02For what reason did you do that?
05:06Just to be a part of your group.
05:08Be a part of this group here?
05:11Was it more or less how to, like, why did you want to be a part of the group?
05:15Because obviously you said you're having some psychological issues, right, that you've
05:17admitted to me.
05:18You said that you were trying to get to GMH, correct?
05:21And I'm taking that you drove by here, and you saw everybody out here, correct?
05:26How do you, that's what I'm not understanding.
05:28So you drove here, correct?
05:29You're trying to get to GMH, but it's not making sense how you ended up here and why you
05:35ended up here, if you're trying to go to GMH.
05:37Which, so you kind of learned my illness, kind of started stepping in.
05:41Okay, so you start, so you saw a group and you kind of got interested.
05:44Is that what you're trying to say?
05:46Like, I just saw a bunch of people over here and said, well, I should come here and they
05:52would feel welcome.
05:53I talked to some of the parents and their kids with them and asked them how great they
05:57were and stuff, so, yeah.
06:00How many do you think you've talked to?
06:02I've talked to a lot of people today.
06:05Just here?
06:06Yep, just here.
06:08Families?
06:09Yeah, just like family members asking people about their kids and how old they were and
06:12how old grade they were in and stuff like that.
06:14How many do you think you've talked to?
06:16Um, seven.
06:20Oh, you said seven?
06:21Yeah.
06:21Oh, God, seven.
06:24So obviously, man, people are, people are obviously a little worried.
06:28A little worried is an understatement, and for good reason.
06:31Firstly, there's the principal of the school, Mr. Atkins, who gives his own account of what
06:36occurred that afternoon that was meant to be a stress-free, peaceful event for his students
06:41and parents.
06:42The father and mother of the girl Reed Duran claimed to be the father of are behind him.
06:47In the building, he said he was the father of a daughter, so he was, it turns out it was
06:54his daughter.
06:55It's not his daughter.
06:56He has no relation here.
06:57He was fishing for information.
07:00It's my daughter.
07:01Um, and I became suspicious, and so then I find out this was the real father, so we found
07:08him out here, and he's got a story about he's looking for his daughter, but he, uh, he latched
07:13on to that name.
07:14We don't know if it's a coincidence, if he saw it posted, if he went to the desk, but also,
07:20you know, very alarming.
07:21Right.
07:22I've got other parents who know my daughter and said they watched him watch her in the classroom
07:27and see a picture.
07:29So, so we don't know why, but it's definitely out of line, very appropriate, and dangerous.
07:36Right.
07:36So, when we walked in here, today's check-in day.
07:41Okay.
07:41We walked up to the door, and there was a line of adults.
07:43I looked at him, I said, you can go in.
07:45I thought he was waiting for a wife or something, and he looked at me up and down and kind
07:48of
07:48smiled and went to say hi.
07:50I said, hey, stood over my daughter's desk.
07:52He told me that he saw her picture, stood over my daughter's desk, and had conversations
07:57with her teacher about, I will get these, what stuff do I need?
08:00She's going to, where's your Kleenex, where's your pencil?
08:02I'll get this, I'll get that.
08:02Are you the father?
08:03Yes.
08:03He asked me, is this where the supplies go?
08:06And pointed to the supply table.
08:08Okay.
08:08And then, are you a teacher?
08:09Mom.
08:10Mom.
08:11Okay.
08:11This is my wife, and we have a daughter.
08:12You go to kindergarten.
08:13Here, she's in kindergarten.
08:14I said, who are you here with?
08:16Who are you related to?
08:17He said, my parents.
08:18So, obviously, I'm thinking, well, this is weird.
08:22I said, do you have a daughter here?
08:23He said, yes.
08:24I said, what's her name?
08:25He hesitated.
08:26Finally, he said, JJ.
08:28I said, okay, what grade?
08:30Went through that.
08:31So, we walked down there to the kindergarten room.
08:32He started asking questions of the kindergarten teacher.
08:36Well, later, these are new parents.
08:38I didn't know them yet.
08:39So, later, I get introduced to them, and I knew we got a problem, because that was the
08:45name he was claiming.
08:46The parents' and teachers' accounts of the events in the classroom turn Reed's already
08:51unbelievable motive for being at the elementary school into a downright impossible one.
08:57But can police get him to admit his real reason for being there?
09:01Now, I'm starting to get a little frustrated because you're not being completely honest.
09:06You walked into that school today, sat behind a little girl, and started talking to her.
09:11Didn't know anything about her.
09:13Didn't know anybody here.
09:14And you started talking to a little girl.
09:19What is that about?
09:21What is the reason for that?
09:25I'm just trying to better interact with people, I guess.
09:28But, yeah.
09:29I know it's not normal.
09:30No.
09:32To say the words to better interact with people, and hear me out, and your way of doing that
09:42is to talk to little girls.
09:44Can you obviously see this right here?
09:45You see how frustrated they are?
09:47You see what I got to go down through?
09:49Now I got to calm them down, and the world that I live in, and the world that we all
09:55live
09:55in, and the way, like I said, schools are these days, with the s*** that's going on within
09:59schools, the little kids' schools, and you pull this?
10:05Your alibi of what you're saying makes no sense.
10:07I think you have, your alibi, you had another attention here today.
10:11What is the real reason you came here?
10:15It's not here to be, interact with people.
10:16I don't believe that.
10:17I don't believe that you just showed up here to show up here, because you saw a group of
10:22people.
10:22What is, what was, what was the reason?
10:23What was the real reason why you came here?
10:26I feel like I live by myself, and I spend too much time by myself, so, again, I'm not doing
10:34very well psychologically, so I thought, hey, I'm going to a place that has, you know, like
10:42a family environment, but I understand it's, like, not vulnerable.
10:47You throw it in with adults with their families, and then you walk into a classroom using somebody's
10:53kid's name, and then you go stand behind that little girl, and you talk to her, and you ask
10:59her questions, I think your alibi of what your intentions were, were completely different
11:04of what you're telling me.
11:05Yeah, you interact with everybody, including kids.
11:09Why kids?
11:10How, you're, how, what's your age?
11:1335.
11:13Okay, you're 35.
11:14Why you want to interact with little kids, who are, like, I'm looking at the age range of, like,
11:196 and, like, 10.
11:21Why?
11:21Maybe because someday I might be a dad and be, like, around children and be, like, good
11:33for me, but I understand it's not.
11:38Indeed, I understand it's anger completely.
11:41Yeah, he's pissed.
11:43Pissed off, man.
11:45That's his child.
11:46Clearly, Reed's story on why he was at the school is crumbling before his eyes.
11:51To say the parents are angry is an understatement, and soon, they will have even more reason
11:57to be furious with him.
11:59I need something done to hit with him, and I would appreciate every information on him
12:04until I can keep the tabs on him or something.
12:06Sir?
12:07Sir?
12:07Sir, I understand you are very upset right now.
12:10All right.
12:11Let's try to work through this.
12:12Yes, sir.
12:13Okay?
12:14Okay.
12:15So, one thing, and I, like I said, I can't imagine what you're going through with this,
12:19but one thing I will ask you to do is just step towards the back of my car.
12:23That way you stop with him, because the more you stare at him, the more you're going to
12:28keep yourself worked up.
12:30All right?
12:30And right now, I want you to try to breathe and focus on...
12:33What's the procedure?
12:34What's going to happen?
12:35So, right now, I've already placed a call on my supervisor.
12:40He's going to give me a call so I can give him a rundown on this.
12:45Right now, we have...
12:51Registry, attempted kidnapping, I mean...
12:54No, ma'am.
12:56Yeah.
12:58So, you guys want to use more?
12:59Without trespassing?
13:01Trespassing, yes, we can.
13:02So, we can trespass him from the property.
13:06You know, we will type up what we can't.
13:10Unfortunately, like, going through a lot...
13:12My kid shows up missing, and we didn't do anything or put him in a database.
13:16That's unacceptable.
13:18It's not that you're not doing anything, ma'am.
13:20We are here.
13:21We're trying to work through this as best as possible, but we have to work within the confines
13:25of the law.
13:27And, you know, there has to be certain elements of crimes met before we can do something.
13:36It's not...
13:36He impersonated a parent.
13:37He told me he was...
13:42If I turned my back for a second, he could have left with him.
13:45He told everybody he was her dad.
13:48I have another parent saying he's eyeballing my child.
13:50Another parent that knows me and knows that's not his kid.
13:52And is looking at my daughter, sir.
13:55My daughter, sir.
13:56As more horrible truths about Reed Durand's actions are revealed, the anger of everyone
14:01involved in the case continues to escalate.
14:04I can't imagine what you're going through, but we can't just put somebody on a registry
14:13because he went into a school.
14:15He could have walked out with her.
14:17I know.
14:19I know he could have, but he didn't.
14:22It doesn't matter.
14:23He could have.
14:24So, in the eyes of the law, it does matter.
14:29We can't charge somebody for what they may do.
14:33We can't...
14:34He was in the process of it.
14:36Until the act is committed, then there's no...
14:39He was telling people he is the parent.
14:41And I understand that.
14:43All right?
14:44And there's...
14:45I said there's some things that I want to look into.
14:47He was in the process of it.
14:48The law doesn't see you in the process of that as a crime.
14:53I can't imagine the position you're in.
14:55All right?
14:56But let me have a little bit of time.
15:00But right now, we can't charge somebody for what they may do.
15:06It's pretty clear to me.
15:08And it's pretty clear to police as well, especially when they take a look at what Reed has in his
15:14possession that doesn't belong to him.
15:16Hi, Reed.
15:18Obviously, this isn't your paperwork, correct?
15:20None of this is, right?
15:22No, this is yours.
15:23This is theirs, right?
15:25Hand me those.
15:27What else have you taken from them today?
15:31What's in that bag?
15:39Books?
15:40Are those yours books?
15:43Yeah.
15:44Or did you take them from here?
15:46Because obviously, you're taking something from the kids, and I'm starting to think this
15:49is not yours either.
15:52Is this yours or not yours?
15:53And be honest.
16:02Whose hat's this?
16:17Why are you taking little kids' paperwork for?
16:21What's that all about?
16:22Well, Reed's reasoning for picking up the paperwork is sickening beyond belief.
16:28The student's mother is the first to come to the horrific realization of why the paper's
16:32missing from her child's desk.
16:35On the desk, which is blanks.
16:37It's for you to fill out and return to us.
16:39There's nothing here that's informative.
16:41That's why she didn't have any paperwork on her name.
16:44Yeah.
16:44Because he picked it up.
16:45And that isn't the only thing that Reed took from the classroom.
16:50I want to find out if those are your books, but I don't think they are.
16:52We'll find out.
16:53Because obviously, you took some stuff from these kids and got their stuff.
16:57It appears he took the paperwork meant for a parent to fill out so that he could potentially
17:01fill it out himself and pretend that the child was his.
17:05And that isn't the only thing that Reed took from the classroom.
17:09So, they're theirs?
17:11Theirs, their schools.
17:12Theirs, their schools?
17:13Okay.
17:13So, again, you keep continuously lying to me over and over, man.
17:19And you expect me to believe your story.
17:22This is what I'm saying, dude.
17:24Just be clean.
17:25You come clean from it, dude.
17:26So, we can get this over and done with.
17:29So, we can go home and be done with all this.
17:31This is, I think you're, like I said, I think your intentions are different.
17:36Yeah.
17:36I'm not damn certain that it was.
17:38What were you trying to do?
17:39To be friendly with the kids.
17:41To be friendly with the kids.
17:44You're still going to, you're still going to live with that.
17:47Just be friendly with kids.
17:48Are you really having a psychological issue?
17:51Were you really trying to get to GMH?
17:52Or were you really just trying to get here?
17:54Thanks, I'm just trying to.
17:56So, over here.
17:57Just trying to come here?
17:58Yeah.
17:58Okay.
17:59So, GMH was never in the question.
18:01And that you were just trying to be friendly with the kids.
18:04And your intentions were here to just be friendly with the kids.
18:08After this, the officer interviewing Reed and the officer interviewing the administration
18:12meet to discuss their findings so far.
18:16Unfortunately, they aren't as far along in the case as the parents and administration would
18:20like them to be.
18:22And they are understandably desperate for justice.
18:25So, he goes, yeah.
18:27So, he says possibly might be schizophrenia.
18:29You need to figure something out right now.
18:31You need to figure something out.
18:32I'm respecting you.
18:33He is touching her.
18:34Sir.
18:35Sir.
18:35You need to put him in the car.
18:37Sir.
18:37You need to walk away.
18:39You need to walk away.
18:40I need you to understand.
18:41You give me, sir.
18:42I'm hearing you.
18:42Sir.
18:43He is.
18:43Walk that way.
18:45Walk that way.
18:46Walk that way.
18:46Did you hear me?
18:47Walk that way.
18:48Walk that way.
18:49You heard what I said.
18:51I'm asking.
18:52Walk that way.
18:55Sir, can I speak to you?
18:57Sir.
18:58Sir.
18:58Let me speak with my partner, please.
19:04I really hate to interrupt again, but we got him sitting here.
19:07There's still kids around.
19:08He was trying to.
19:09We don't know what his intent was.
19:10Well, we know what his intent was.
19:11We didn't do it.
19:12Can we at least get him in the car or get him out?
19:13All these kids?
19:14So, I don't want to put him in the back of the car because then it's a...
19:18Then it's what?
19:19It's more of a...
19:20You're not protecting the kids?
19:21Sir, I...
19:22We are...
19:23This dude's right.
19:24It's unclear exactly at this point why they cannot put him in the back of the car,
19:28but it seems like the officers haven't developed a reasonable suspicion to detain Reed.
19:33Though this doesn't quite make sense given the circumstance,
19:37there may be some departmental policy preventing detention in a vehicle under certain circumstances.
19:44We're trying to...
19:45We're trying to put him back in the car.
19:48Give us just a few minutes here.
19:50That's all I'm asking so that we can...
19:51So we can put him somewhere.
19:53He's not here.
19:54He's not here.
19:55He's not here.
19:55It's been almost an hour since he's followed my camera.
19:57He's right here.
19:58I know you want me to wait that way from everybody.
20:00He's right there.
20:01All we're reading about is you won't complain.
20:03I've done the best I can do, sir, per circumstances.
20:05Can you go get the paperwork, please?
20:07I am doing the best I can do, and he's sitting there...
20:11Sit back this way, please.
20:16What do you want from me?
20:18I have already asked you to...
20:21I asked you to put him in the car.
20:24That's all I asked.
20:25I didn't say lock him up or whip him.
20:26I said put him in the car.
20:27I understand that.
20:29I understand that.
20:30Right now, I need you to focus on your brain.
20:32I need you to break it down just a little bit, sir.
20:34You got kids?
20:35Okay.
20:35Yes, I do.
20:37Can I put a restraining order on him?
20:39So that's not something that I can do tonight?
20:42Can I speak to someone that can do something about this gentleman, sir,
20:46who was following my daughter around?
20:47I'm working with what I can.
20:51What are you working with?
20:54With trying to talk with you, to talk with the principal,
20:57to talk with other parents involved.
20:59Six people, this is creepy.
21:01Okay, it's not a criminal act to be creepy.
21:04At this point, Reed has stolen items from the students
21:07and pretended to be a father of a student.
21:10However, the impersonation issue may not be a chargeable offense by itself.
21:14Theft certainly is a criminal offense.
21:17However, this could be a procedural issue again
21:20where the police don't have quite enough information
21:22to establish probable cause to effect an arrest.
21:26It's not a crime.
21:27Sir.
21:28Sir, God, I hope that you are hearing me say sir and being...
21:31I'm about to lose my...
21:32I know, and that's why I'm asking you to turn away from him
21:36because I know that it's aggravating you
21:38and I know it's amping you up.
21:39I'm trying to do the things that I can
21:43to control the situation here.
21:44All right, I'm trying to get all of the story.
21:47I'm trying to understand what your guys' point of view,
21:51my partner's talking with him.
21:52When you write this down, no disrespect.
21:54I cannot talk to you anymore, sir.
21:55I'm going to lose my...
21:59Clearly, no one is happy with the situation at hand.
22:02Though police can't put Reed in the back of a police car,
22:05there is something they can do to further the investigation,
22:09with Reed's permission, of course.
22:11So you drove here, correct?
22:13All right, what vehicle is yours?
22:16It's the red...
22:19Hyundai Sonata.
22:20Red Hyundai Sonata?
22:23Okay.
22:24Uh, I'm sorry, four-door?
22:28Four-door.
22:28All right, is there any tint windows or anything like that?
22:31Uh, yeah.
22:32Would you be willing to allow us to look through the car?
22:36That's fine.
22:37Okay.
22:38Uh, how about you walk with us up there then?
22:40Okay.
22:40While vehicle search can be based on probable cause,
22:43the issue here is whether they have probable cause of a crime being committed
22:47versus probable cause to search the vehicle.
22:51Those are two different inquiries.
22:53Asking permission is an easy way to avoid any later objections
22:57based on a lack of probable cause.
22:59Items police are about to uncover within Reed's car
23:02will show the extent of the twisted life he's been living for quite some time.
23:24An officer locates something that piques his interest, and Reed latches onto it.
23:31New user?
23:34You have a thing in there about recovery.
23:37New user?
23:39What do you usually use?
23:46Cocaine.
23:47Cocaine?
23:48Okay.
23:50When's the last time you used?
23:52What else, okay, what else do you use?
23:53Do you use cocaine or something else?
23:55It's like pills.
23:56Pills?
23:56What kind of pills?
23:58Downers.
23:59Downers.
24:00Like dark sorority, basically.
24:02Gotcha.
24:03Gotcha.
24:04When's the last time you used, my man?
24:06This morning.
24:08Coke or you're both?
24:11Both.
24:11Both.
24:12So I take it that you take coke, you get too high, you take downers, come down?
24:17Yeah.
24:17Okay.
24:19Have you went to recovery before?
24:22Cause also, like I said, you got recovery books in there.
24:25Um, yeah, and it didn't work out, I mean, it didn't work out long term, I guess.
24:33Is there any coke in there, any pills, anything in there that we need to know about?
24:38Maybe so.
24:39Where at?
24:40In the trunk.
24:41In the trunk?
24:42You give us permission to look in the trunk?
24:44Yeah.
24:45See, so you can look in the trunk, so there might be coke and pills in there.
24:49Okay.
24:49At this point, they still haven't established probable cause for a vehicle search.
24:54The officers are being cautious here, so asking for permission to look in the trunk may prove critical.
25:02How much is it going to be?
25:04Are we talking like an eight ball?
25:06Are we taking just like a minuscule amount?
25:08What are we talking?
25:09Two grams of coke.
25:11Two grams of coke?
25:12How many pills?
25:1420.
25:1520?
25:1620?
25:17It's just going to be a variety of downers, just like a variety of pills, different ones.
25:21Or they're just going to be able to sing?
25:23Uh, I think it's just kind of a variety.
25:26Variety.
25:26Yeah.
25:28Where, where would these be?
25:29Where at in the trunk?
25:32Don't, nope, nope, don't stand up.
25:34Where at?
25:35Uh, maybe underneath the, where the tire thing is, possibly?
25:43It may be impossible, is it?
25:47We need to be for sure.
25:49Do you guys want to search the entire vehicle?
25:50We're searching the vehicle.
25:51You're not going to search it.
25:53So, where is it at?
25:55Where is the last time you put it at?
25:57Dude, I've caught you in like 30 lies already.
26:00So, and you're, and you're, you're, you're pausing, you're trying to think, if you're trying to make up a story,
26:07don't.
26:07Tell him where it's at, so he doesn't have to keep looking.
26:10So, where's it at?
26:12If it's in the trunk, where at in the trunk?
26:14The officer continues to search the trunk and car, but oddly discovers no drugs.
26:20However, he does find something else that is deeply disturbing.
26:23Something police will be sure to ask Reed about soon.
26:27Why, why are you lying to us right now?
26:33Matt, now's the time to be truthful, to be honest with me.
26:43Okay, you're shaking, pausing, thinking, that's not being honest.
26:46Tell me, what's going on?
26:48I'm just, I'm not in my right mind.
26:51What do you mean you're not in your right mind?
26:54The drugs.
26:56What drugs?
26:58My downers.
26:59What do you mean downers?
27:02What do you take?
27:03What is your pill of choice?
27:10You're lying to me.
27:11No, addicts know what their pill of choice is.
27:14Addicts know what their drug of choice is.
27:16It looks like an upper.
27:18Okay, other than an upper.
27:20Other than generic common terms, explain to me what your high is.
27:25It's like feeling energetic and having energy to do things.
27:34Okay, you're lying to me.
27:37Stop lying to me.
27:40I don't know why you were lying to me.
27:43What he's trying to get is a specific drug.
27:48A Vicodin, a Percocet, something like that.
27:52I don't even think he's a user.
27:54I don't think you're a drug user.
27:57I think you're using that as a crutch or as an excuse.
28:00So what are you doing here in Xenia?
28:03What brought you to St. Bridget?
28:05Did you drive by or was there a specific reason that brought you here?
28:09There being a lot of families here.
28:11So you knew there was a lot of families here?
28:15Yeah.
28:15Okay.
28:16How did you know there was a lot of families here?
28:18Because it's an elementary school.
28:20But it's in the evening.
28:22It's Monday evening.
28:24What brought you here?
28:25I looked up the dates that they have for when they fall apart and having these kind of events.
28:32Okay.
28:33So what was your intent when you were looking that up?
28:36What were you trying to do?
28:38We were looking up to see when their events were, to see when people were going to be here.
28:43Was it people, children, families?
28:46Children.
28:47Okay.
28:48So you came here specifically looking for children?
28:51Yes.
28:52Okay.
28:54Can I call you?
28:56Alright.
28:57Have you ever been in trouble before?
28:59Can you call in a second?
29:00No.
29:01No.
29:01No.
29:04Okay.
29:04Was there a specific family or just children in general?
29:11Just in general.
29:13Okay.
29:14So you didn't know anybody here?
29:15Just when it seems like police are getting somewhere after this sickening confession,
29:19they are once more interrupted.
29:21And the most shocking interruption isn't by who you're expecting.
29:25However, what the officers are about to be disturbed with is something that adds another layer of depravity to the
29:31case,
29:32and makes Reed's revolting motives even more clear.
29:36Sir.
29:37Sir.
29:38I'm going to ask you to step-
29:39I can listen to his answers.
29:40Sir.
29:41I'm asking you to step over there, please.
29:43Did he feed away?
29:43Sir.
29:44Step over there.
29:45I'm asking you so I can conduct my investigation, sir.
29:48If you want all these answers, I need you to stop looking at him.
29:52I need you to stop staring at him.
29:53Although the parents are understandably very angry and upset, what they are doing may have unintended consequences.
30:01Reed seemed to be just starting to confess, and he may clam up again and not give a full confession
30:06now.
30:07I mean, come on.
30:08This is getting creepier and creepier.
30:11What is it?
30:12There's clothes in the boys' bathroom and the bag.
30:15He changed his clothes.
30:16Ma'am, ma'am, ma'am, ma'am.
30:17Do me a favor.
30:17Sir.
30:18This is the s*** talking about you.
30:20Ma'am, ma'am.
30:21Do me a favor.
30:21Can you go with this officer, please?
30:23Can you go with this officer, please?
30:24I'm not talking to the s*** anymore.
30:26Put him in the car, sir.
30:28Give us a second.
30:30What do you got?
30:31Have you seen her before?
30:32Sir.
30:33Have you seen her before?
30:35Can you please step over there?
30:36Can you please answer me?
30:38Has he seen her before?
30:39What do you got?
30:41Rapidly, the scene has unraveled around the police, just as it seems like they're getting
30:45close to getting Reed to crack.
30:47Of course, the parents and administrators are horrified by what the discovery of clothing
30:52in the bathroom could mean for the innocent children at the school.
30:56While two officers discuss their findings so far, another journeys into the school to
31:01see what Reed left behind in the bathroom.
31:06Were you out there in the church's car?
31:09Mm-hmm.
31:09There was nothing in it.
31:10He kept saying there was a...
31:13He's like, I think there's coke and pills in there, and where he said they were, nothing's
31:17in there.
31:19He's a, obviously, clearly an impulsive liar about everything that he does.
31:24Um, I mean, obviously, he has like a recovery book and some stuff like that in there.
31:30But other than that, nothing that we thought of any significant, so...
31:37Is this any of your guides and stuff, or is this all his?
31:40Because this is like all Bible verses and stuff like that, so...
31:43That's his stuff.
31:46Yeah, he asked me to use the restroom.
31:48First thing he did.
31:49And so there was nobody else here.
31:52So I let him come in here, and I sit there to make sure nobody else came alive.
31:57But I did not tell the city house for clothes when I walked out.
32:00The way he came is in.
32:02You didn't realize it?
32:03No, you didn't realize it.
32:04No.
32:06No.
32:12No.
32:17No.
32:20No, no.
32:22No, no.
32:23No.
32:23No, no.
32:24No, you don't.
32:26Absolutely.
32:33No.
32:34No.
32:34No.
32:34No, no.
32:34Oh, yeah.
32:38No.
32:38Have a really good time.
32:38No.
32:40Cecil and Jones are going to look in the ORC a little more, see if they can find anything else,
32:43maybe try to try on them, but right now, it's not a name besides talk to a little kid.
32:51I couldn't say that.
32:53This is like where you just go ahead and drop it.
32:57My answer is, it's not illegal to talk to a little kid, but it's also extremely, extremely weird.
33:03And it sort of seems to come into a school full of little kids.
33:06After thoroughly searching the clothing and bag that Reed is believed to have left in the bathroom, the police come
33:12up seemingly empty-handed.
33:13However, back at the conversation with Reed on the sidewalk, they're about to get all the answers they need.
33:20Be warned, what you're about to hear is incredibly disturbing.
33:26Can you pick up on your story where you left off with me?
33:29With him?
33:30With me. Where were you with him?
33:32With him?
33:33Yeah.
33:35Why I was here.
33:36Okay.
33:37And why were you here, sir?
33:40Because of kids.
33:42What do you mean, because of kids?
33:45Because of kids.
33:46Attracted to children.
33:48Okay, so you're attracted to children.
33:50What were you coming here to do tonight?
33:52Walk me through what was going to go on tonight.
33:56You want to have kids.
33:57Okay.
34:01Just anyone in particular?
34:02Was there a specific...
34:04Just anyone in particular?
34:06Okay.
34:07So walk me through.
34:08When you got here, what happened?
34:10Made up in the story that I had a child that was going to school here.
34:15Okay.
34:16Did you give a name or anything for the child that was going to school?
34:20I said...
34:22Okay.
34:23How did you get that name?
34:24I just came up with a name that had J in it.
34:27Why did it have to be J?
34:29Just the first name that popped, the first letter that popped in it.
34:33Is that honestly the truth?
34:35Because I think you saw that name or came up with that name some other way.
34:38So how did you come up with that name?
34:42Just using this...
34:44Coming up with a name that goes with...
34:48With the letter J.
34:49Okay.
34:50So why J?
34:52What was specific about J?
34:57Yes, I was named J.
34:58Okay.
34:59So what about the last name?
35:01Did you give a last name for the...
35:03For who you were here with?
35:06Just answer me.
35:07Stop thinking about it.
35:08Stop...
35:08So did you give a last name?
35:11Yeah.
35:12What was the last name you gave?
35:14Okay, so how did you come up with that name?
35:18I researched J.
35:20She had to go dead.
35:23Okay.
35:23So was it online?
35:27Yeah.
35:28Okay.
35:29So you knew that name before you got here?
35:31Yeah.
35:32Both police and the family assumed that Reed discovered the child's name from the desk.
35:37However, as they're about to learn,
35:39the truth of how he discovered the kindergartner's name and posed as her father is much more horrific.
35:46They asked me if I had a kid here and I told him the name and then went to the
35:51classroom
35:51and that kid would be going to school.
35:54And they said that she'd be going to this class.
36:02And so I pretended that it was my kid.
36:05Okay.
36:07Did you interact with?
36:14I did not.
36:15I just kind of...
36:17I was behind her.
36:19You were behind her?
36:20Yeah, I just kind of didn't hear her.
36:22Okay.
36:23Were you here for her or for anybody else or was it multiples?
36:31It was...
36:34It was just her.
36:35Just her?
36:36Yeah.
36:37All right, look at me.
36:41How'd you pick her?
36:43Just by her looks.
36:46Okay.
36:47Was this prior to tonight or...
36:51Yeah.
36:53Okay.
36:54You said you were attracted to children.
36:56So you're a minor attracted adult.
36:58Is that correct?
37:00Is that correct?
37:01Yeah.
37:03Okay.
37:04Perhaps the officer uses the term minor attracted adult to make Reed feel as though his crimes
37:10aren't his fault or aren't as serious as they truly are.
37:14Using this phrase, as disturbing as it is, may put Reed at ease, allowing the detective to get more information
37:21out of him.
37:22So, what was your plan tonight?
37:26To...
37:30Take a hand with me.
37:32Okay.
37:35And what?
37:36Children.
37:38Okay.
37:38Touch or how?
37:40Inappropriately.
37:40What do you mean inappropriately?
37:44Inappropriately.
37:44Something to do with being an adult.
37:46Who do you mean?
37:47Computer.
37:48Okay.
37:50Uh...
37:52And what...
37:53What would be the purpose in this?
37:58Hey, Bob.
38:00Why did you want to come here and take her home with you and touch her?
38:04Why did you want to do that?
38:09Because it's a...
38:16...desire that I have.
38:17With that gut-churning confession, Reed has sealed his fate.
38:22Although, as you'll see in just a few moments, he's going to land himself yet another charge.
38:27Not once, but twice.
38:30First, however, the police have to get as much information on Reed's past as they can.
38:35And those brochures and maps that they discovered he had in his car,
38:39they've brought some unsettling questions to the forefront of the officers' minds.
38:44You said you looked online.
38:47What...
38:48Did you look at other schools or just this school or...
38:51I don't know.
38:55I've looked at...
38:56I've looked at other schools.
38:58Okay.
38:59I...
38:59I can't think of which ones I've looked at, but...
39:02I just wanted to go to other schools.
39:03Okay.
39:05Have you gone...
39:06Have you gone to any other schools?
39:09Yeah.
39:10What school have you gone to?
39:11What school or schools have you gone to?
39:13I've gone to...
39:15I've gone to...
39:16I've gone to...
39:17I've gone to...
39:19Chaminade, Jolene.
39:22Okay.
39:23Because they have...
39:24You know...
39:27Denver...
39:28Northern there.
39:30They have what?
39:30I'm sorry.
39:31Girls there.
39:32They have a lot of girls there.
39:33That are young.
39:35Okay.
39:36Okay. Where else?
39:39I've been to multiple cities around the area.
39:43What do you mean by, is it like in a general area? Is it further in the state? Do you
39:47go out of state? What do you mean by multiple cities?
39:50I've gone to like states, or states, but cities that are a couple of states over.
39:56Okay. I went to Normanton. I just went to Denver Elementary. That's the one I come home from.
40:09And then fucking places. I've just driven past other schools and stuff.
40:18Okay. Have you ever stopped in any other schools?
40:21Yes.
40:21Okay. Have you taken girls from any other schools?
40:28Yes.
40:29Okay.
40:30Reed's disheartening admission that he has kidnapped girls from other schools adds another layer of horror to this case.
40:37This brings up another question that yields a harrowing answer.
40:42All right. So, do you take anything to jog your memory from these other schools? Keepsakes, momentums, anything like that?
40:50Are you?
40:52Yeah.
40:53I don't know.
40:53Okay. What do you take?
40:55Okay.
40:57Pay a piggy bank.
40:59Kermit and Brog.
41:00That's like, you're just supposed to hire him.
41:06Mr. Green it is?
41:08Duran.
41:09What is it?
41:09Duran.
41:10Duran.
41:11Sorry. I apologize.
41:12Would you be willing to come down to the station and talk with us some more?
41:15Yeah.
41:15Okay. All right. Yeah. Why don't you come on?
41:19Finally, police are able to bring Reed to the justice center for questioning.
41:23And things are about to take an insane turn.
41:26Notice they don't have him in handcuffs when he's placed in the car.
41:30It seems like police have enough for a detention, but not an arrest.
41:34This centers a gray area where an arrest, if not justified, contained anything learned during the drive to the station.
41:42Therefore, by asking him to voluntarily come down to the station, it can be argued that his participation in any
41:48questioning was voluntary and not a custodial interrogation.
41:52His future statements can potentially remain admissible under these circumstances.
41:58He swings from side to side in his chair, presumably overcome with anxiety.
42:03Soon he makes a terrible decision he'll likely regret.
42:18All right boys.
42:20Time is a good side.
42:20Hi, Fyzer!
42:20Hit a unit up here!
42:24Put your hand tamp your, back now!
42:26Okay, the way I was!
42:30Stop!
42:31Put your hand koÅŸ, your back now!
42:33Okay.
42:34Are you kidding me right now?
42:44His attempt to injure the officer lands him with charges of felonious assault and escape.
42:49At Green County Jail, Reed makes some disturbing confessions.
42:53He tells officers that he intended to give the girl he wanted to kidnap a Starburst candy
42:58with a tranquilizer in it, then remove her from school after she passed out.
43:04Disturbingly so, when police frisked Reed before putting him in the cruiser,
43:08they discovered a bag with a Starburst inside it.
43:11According to the department, it wasn't found to have any illicit substances laced in it.
43:17Reed was put under arrest immediately after attempting to assault the officer on the scene,
43:22and from there, his desperation only grew.
43:25In his arraignment, his fingerprints, DNA, and photo were taken,
43:30but he refused to allow these to be collected.
43:33Instead of complying, he made yet another bad decision.
43:48His attempt to flee raises an eerie question.
43:51Did Reed fear that providing his DNA would expose previous offenses?
43:56It seems that only time will tell.
44:00In September 2022, he pleaded not guilty to attempted kidnapping, felonious assault, and escape.
44:07In February of 2023, he was deemed competent to stand trial.
44:12At the time of this video's posting, it's unknown when the trial will take place.
44:17At the very least, it seems he will be incarcerated for a long, long time.
