00:00Negative taser deployment. Tasers failed. Subjects are almost over the chainsaw.
00:04Get on. Drop the chainsaw.
00:11A routine traffic stop leads to a tense standoff when the driver says he's not afraid to die.
00:17But it's when he pulls out a deadly chainsaw that this encounter takes a dramatic turn.
00:22He's cutting out my tire on my patrol car with a chainsaw.
00:26The following report is based on official police records.
00:29And the footage has never been seen before until now.
00:32Around 8.25 a.m. on October 20th, 2025,
00:36Detective Scott Davis with the Colorado City Hilldale City Police Department
00:40is on patrol when he spots a red pickup truck with a large brown box in the bed.
00:46He recognizes this vehicle as belonging to a 41-year-old local man.
00:50And a quick check of the system shows that his license is suspended.
00:54Detective Davis pulls him over.
00:56And what follows is a tense exchange between the two.
00:59Hey! Show me your hands!
01:10Driver! Show me your hands now!
01:14Larry, you're under arrest!
01:16Step out of the truck!
01:19Show me your hands!
01:21Show me your hands now!
01:23Larry!
01:25We just got a couple of charges, man.
01:26Let's get this taken care of!
01:28Larry, or David Lawrence Stubbs Jr.,
01:31has a criminal history consisting primarily of traffic infractions.
01:34Most recently, he's wanted for a DUI out of Arizona.
01:38Other officers have tried to arrest him for that DUI before,
01:42but he's evaded capture.
01:44Show me both your hands!
01:49Dispatch 10X13, just information, I've got view of one hand.
01:53The subject's in the vehicle telling me he, uh, will not cooperate, will not show me his left hand.
01:58Show me your hands!
02:00Get down on your knees!
02:03I declare peace!
02:05How about that?
02:06In the name of Jesus Christ, I declare peace!
02:08That's fine.
02:09You're under arrest.
02:10Get on the ground.
02:11You're gonna get tased.
02:12Number three!
02:13Taser, taser, taser!
02:14All right, then!
02:18Go ahead, bring it, bud.
02:22After the failed taser deployment, Larry draws an alarming weapon of his own.
02:27How'd it go, Pete?
02:32That's two!
02:33Thirteen, negative taser deployment.
02:36Tasers failed.
02:36Subject's armist over the chainsaw.
02:38How'd it go, Pete?
02:39Cut!
02:40Drop the chainsaw!
02:41You're under arrest.
02:44You better kill me, cause you're gonna die.
02:46Drop the chainsaw.
02:48Let's go.
02:49Drop the chainsaw.
02:50In the name of Jesus Christ, I declare peace, bud.
02:53That's good.
02:54That's great.
02:54You won't let me live in peace, you're gonna die.
02:57I support and encourage that.
02:58No, you don't.
02:59Put the chainsaw down.
03:00You're my enemy.
03:01Romans also says, submit to the authorities.
03:04I have authority.
03:06You don't.
03:07It's over, bud.
03:08Now that Larry is armed, Detective Davis focuses his efforts on de-escalating the situation.
03:14Larry, on the other hand, has the opposite intentions.
03:18We're at war.
03:19Get on.
03:19We're at war.
03:20Drop the chainsaw.
03:21Shoot me.
03:24You better shoot your kill, because I'll chop you in pieces, bud.
03:27Larry, that's not necessary.
03:30We are at war.
03:31Drop the chainsaw.
03:33No, this is self-defense, and you're my enemy.
03:36You have a valid warrant for your arrest.
03:38I don't care about you.
03:39I have a lawful authority to place you under arrest.
03:42You've ruined my life, bud.
03:44Multiple times.
03:45I've never met you before, Larry.
03:47I've never met you before.
03:47Many others.
03:48Larry, drop the chainsaw.
03:50I'm an enemy to God.
03:52Drop the chainsaw.
03:53And I'm over it.
03:54Larry becomes increasingly agitated, his threats towards himself and Detective Davis only becoming
03:59more combative.
04:01Larry, how do we get this taken care of today?
04:03You're gonna die.
04:04Larry, that ain't gonna happen.
04:06Yeah, it is.
04:07And I'm gonna die, too.
04:09No.
04:09You are monsters.
04:11You know how many times I've been literally screwed over?
04:15Larry, you have a...
04:16I can never get on top.
04:18I can never pay anything.
04:20I have no f***ing license.
04:22Nobody will give me a job.
04:25I cannot get out of this s***.
04:27It's literally a f***ing revolving hell.
04:30There are resources to help you with that.
04:32F***ing you.
04:33And burn in hell.
04:34I've offered you peace three times.
04:36Larry?
04:36You're gonna die, bud.
04:37I can't go to work.
04:38You won't let me.
04:40Every f***ing time I get arrested, it's the same s***.
04:44Over the same f***ing tickets.
04:46It never f***ing ends.
04:48So the only thing left to do is just die.
04:51So let's...
04:52I'm happy to die, dude.
04:53While Larry keeps talking in circles, Detective Davis makes continual efforts to talk him down.
04:58He also calls for backup from Washington County as Larry ups the ante.
05:02Put the chainsaw down.
05:04Larry, do not.
05:05Do not.
05:07Flip the switch.
05:08Ready, shoot.
05:09Larry, put the chainsaw down.
05:13I'm so damn ready to die, bud.
05:14Thirteen.
05:15Stage medical.
05:16Do I have additional units on the way?
05:17After several more minutes, Detective Davis' efforts continue to fail.
05:22Larry still isn't ready to give up.
05:24And what he's about to say will take things to a dangerous new level.
05:28Is that a gun?
05:30Responding units.
05:31We're gonna need less lethal when we get here.
05:35Does that have bullets?
05:38Larry.
05:40Is that a gun or not?
05:41Let's work through this together.
05:42Do you ever kill anybody?
05:47Have you?
05:47About ten minutes into their confrontation, neither Larry nor Detective Davis have backed down.
05:52So Larry decides to escalate the situation and make use of the chainsaw he's been wielding.
05:58I declare on you an enemy to God in the name of Jesus Christ.
06:01I understand.
06:03Put it down.
06:03Now.
06:04Put it down.
06:06You can kill if you f***ing hit me and I don't die.
06:09You are f***ing dead, bud.
06:10Drop the chainsaw.
06:13Drop the chainsaw.
06:15Better shoot than kill.
06:16Drop the chainsaw.
06:18I'm f***ing down with this lie.
06:20Drop the chainsaw.
06:3013.
06:31He's currently cutting up my patrol car.
06:39He's cutting up my tire on my patrol car with the chainsaw.
06:47Patrol car is disabled.
06:49Larry gets back into his truck, ready to flee into the desert.
06:53In a last ditch effort to keep him there, Detective Davis tries to deploy his spike strip.
06:58But in the soft sand, Larry easily drives over it without damaging his own tires.
07:03With Larry now on the run, Detective Davis informs his fellow officers of the direction in which Larry is heading.
07:09Since the landscape is flat, he can keep an eye on Larry for a few minutes, watching him get further
07:14away.
07:15I don't know.
07:17He's currently making his way over to the white two-story.
07:22That's south of the state line, south of the sewer ponds.
07:26I can see his truck.
07:28He's still on a two-track.
07:31Detective Davis gets to work trying to change his tire, keeping the others updated on Larry's location before he disappears
07:38over the horizon completely.
07:40A few minutes later, another officer pulls up to Detective Davis' location.
07:44Which tire did you take off?
07:46Front and right.
07:47I've already got the lug nuts loosened.
07:51I'll be continuing to do this.
07:52Davis is working on his truck.
07:54Okay, jump up here real quick.
07:55Let me give you the, uh...
07:57He's just gone down to the pivot.
07:59Yeah, follow this.
08:00Okay.
08:01This road.
08:02He said he was going to get me to shoot him.
08:04I backed up, kept tactical distance, and then he started cutting my tire up, jumped to this truck, and drove
08:08off.
08:09But he is threatening us with the chainsaw.
08:12He took a couple of steps.
08:13The officer leaves Detective Davis to work on his tire, and easily follows Larry's tracks down off the dirt road
08:20into a nearby creek bed.
08:21There, he finds Larry's truck, but he doesn't approach it alone.
08:25Not knowing what danger could lurk inside, he waits for backup before drawing nearer.
08:30I don't have anybody in here I can see.
08:35Mr. Stubbs!
08:37This is Lieutenant Wilkinson with the police department.
08:40If you're here, show us your hands!
08:46Hey, what?
08:47I got tracks over here to the side, leading to and fro.
08:56I'm clear.
08:58I'm clear.
09:00After clearing the truck, one officer decides to try to follow Larry on foot.
09:05Hey, if you're good, I'll take the long rifle and walk it.
09:12Because I can track him.
09:13The officer follows a set of footprints from the truck, which lead him to a nearby patch of brush.
09:19Lance, if you're in there, come out.
09:33Hey, four.
09:34I got his tracks going into this thick section over here.
09:42You won't make it out of here, Lance.
09:44Come on out.
09:48Despite the clear set of footprints, Larry has enough of a head start that he stays out of the officer's
09:54sight.
09:54However, his good luck streak is about to run out.
09:57As one officer is waiting at the truck, he gets a text message from the fire captain,
10:02who tells him that he'd spotted Larry driving his truck into the creek bed on a long-range camera.
10:07What's more, a drone operator spots Larry walking in that same creek bed,
10:12perhaps sensing that someone's watching him or hearing the whir of the drone's propellers.
10:17He ducks under a large bush for cover.
10:19But now that he has a location, the operator gets it to the officers.
10:24Unfortunately, Larry is able to slip out of sight once more.
10:27It isn't long before he's spotted again, making his way across a field.
10:31He's intercepted and, after a short scuffle, tased for the second time that day.
10:37This time, he willingly submits to arrest and is transported to the police department.
10:41However, one question still lingers in everyone's mind.
10:46Yes, sir.
10:47Hey, will you make sure to do the inventory on that before you drive it out?
10:51Yep.
10:53I'm still interested in where the chainsaw got to.
10:57The truck is searched, but the chainsaw doesn't appear to be in there.
11:01Back at the police department, EMTs are waiting to examine Larry.
11:05Nothing.
11:06I really don't have any pain here.
11:07I mean, I hurt when it happens, but it don't hurt.
11:10How old are you, sir?
11:1341, I think.
11:1541.
11:16The only thing I'm really seeing is a fast heart rate, which is consistent with the workout,
11:20with the exertion of running and stuff like that.
11:23Perfect.
11:24I'm going to have you walk inside.
11:25We're going to have the paramedics look at your legs where those taser probes hit,
11:31make sure nothing's out of place, and then we'll get on with the rest of the business.
11:34And so he got hit with likely a total of 17 taser probes today.
11:42Larry is fully cleared by the EMTs and then made to wait until Detective Davis can get back to the
11:47police station.
11:48He arrives about 45 minutes later, debriefs his captain,
11:52and then transports Larry to a nearby hospital for final medical clearance before booking him into the Washington County Jail.
11:58While his case is still ongoing, he's currently facing the following charges.
12:03DUI aggravated with driver's license restriction,
12:06unlawful flight from pursuing law enforcement vehicle,
12:10aggravated assault on first responder,
12:12resisting arrest, criminal damage,
12:14and escape in the second degree.
