00:19A frantic teenager calls 911 after surviving a violent home invasion that leaves two people
00:26dead. But suspicious evidence at the scene raises chilling questions, forcing investigators to
00:32consider an unthinkable suspect. The following is based on official police records, and some of
00:40the footage has never been seen before until now. Please note that all persons charged with a crime
00:45are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. Just after midnight on
00:50July 7th, 2024, dispatchers in Palm Bay, Florida answer a desperate call to 911.
00:57911, what's the location of the emergency? Hello? Please help me. Okay, what's going on?
01:06Oh my god. So, uh, basically I was home alone, and in the sky, he broke into the house. I
01:16just grabbed the phone, so I...
01:19Do you know who the man is? No, I don't know who it was. Is he still in there?
01:25I don't think so. I waited. I hid in my room for, like, a really long time. I don't even
01:32know how long it's been.
01:33The caller, later identified as 16-year-old Julia Grace Eggler, explains that the intruder broke in through the sliding
01:40glass door in the back of the house.
01:42I don't think the door was locked, but I don't think that there was a hammer by the back window.
01:48Was it your hammer, or did they bring it with them?
01:51It was just the house hammer. It was just by the back sink. They stopped the sound. They grabbed it
01:57and broke in the window.
01:59They broke the window with a hammer that you already had in your yard?
02:03Yeah. With the glass.
02:06Okay. Take a deep breath. You haven't heard them in a while, right?
02:10Oh, uh...
02:11Was there only one person that you saw?
02:13That I saw, yeah. There was one person.
02:16Okay. And where are you in the house right now?
02:20I'm just in the living room.
02:22Okay. We already have help on the way, so just take a deep breath, okay?
02:26Did they try to make contact with you?
02:28No, because I brought...
02:30The only thing I was able to grab in time were the dogs, because I wanted them with me.
02:35Okay.
02:35But I didn't want whoever it was to kill them, obviously.
02:38Is there anyone else at home with you?
02:40Not anymore.
02:44Were you expecting anyone to come home?
02:48My mom and her boyfriend were out getting, um...
02:51They were buying a bed frame for her bed, so they were out buying stuff, and it's just me all
02:57alone.
02:57Oh, man. I know. This is really scary.
03:00But your mom and her boyfriend should be on their way home?
03:05No, they...
03:07Okay. Take a deep breath.
03:09We have officers that are going to be coming into the area really soon,
03:12and I'm going to stay on the phone with you just in case, okay?
03:15Okay.
03:16With officers on their way, the dispatcher takes steps to ensure the home is safe for them to enter.
03:21But a simple question changes everything in an instant.
03:25You still have your dogs with you?
03:27They're just still in my room.
03:29I didn't lift them up, because I didn't want them getting blood all over their paws.
03:33Right, right.
03:35Did you say blood all over their paws?
03:38Yeah, I can't.
03:41Is there blood inside your house?
03:44Yes.
03:45Whose blood is it?
03:50Is it your blood, or is it the person who broke in blood?
03:52Are you injured?
03:53Oh, I'm fine.
03:54You're fine?
03:55No, I'm fine.
03:55So it's the person who broke in.
03:57It's their blood?
03:58Where is it at?
03:59No, it's...
04:00I don't know if it's their blood or not, but I don't think it's theirs.
04:04It's my mom, she threw what I heard when I was hiding in my room.
04:09I can't afford her.
04:11It's all my fault.
04:12If I had been able to grab the phone, then...
04:16No, nothing is your fault.
04:18If someone broke in your house, nothing is your fault.
04:20Now, I just want to confirm, do you know if anyone is hurt at your house?
04:27Officers with the Palm Bay Police Department arrive and greet Julia at the door, seemingly
04:31unaware of the grim scene waiting on the other side.
04:35Hello.
04:38How you doing?
04:40What's going on?
04:43Why is there blood on the floor?
04:45Because there...
04:47Huh?
04:47What?
04:49Are you okay?
04:50Are you bleeding?
04:51No.
04:52Who's bleeding?
04:54I have a mom in there for a fuck friend.
04:56Come outside.
04:56Come outside.
04:57Come outside.
04:59What is going on?
05:00Why is that door smashed?
05:01Someone came in.
05:03Two with the two.
05:04Can we have a medical response?
05:05We have blood on the floor.
05:07Who's bleeding?
05:08My mom.
05:09Where's your mom?
05:13Stay here.
05:14Stay here.
05:15Hey.
05:15Hey, God.
05:17It was 10.33.
05:20Somebody stay out here with her.
05:21Set a seat right here.
05:22You ready?
05:23I got doors to the right.
05:24Oh, my God.
05:27Oh, ****.
05:29Got a body.
05:29You okay?
05:31I don't know.
05:32I mean, physically, I guess, but...
05:48Please help me.
05:49I got a body on the bathroom floor.
05:53Julia's mother, 38-year-old Kelly McCollum, and Kelly's boyfriend, 22-year-old Matthew
05:58Zenort, are found inside, both appearing to have suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
06:04A large chef's knife with presumed blood on the blade sits on the bathroom counter, consistent
06:09with the multiple stab wounds on Matthew's body.
06:12Both victims are beyond any hope of saving.
06:15I'm sorry.
06:17I'm sorry.
06:19I'm so sorry.
06:21If I just grabbed the phone in time.
06:25Huh?
06:26I just grabbed the phone in time.
06:28If you just grabbed the phone in time?
06:31Are you hurt anyway?
06:43Is there any arguments when you can connect me?
06:48Between who?
06:49Between who?
06:52Me and my mom used to argue a lot.
06:55I should have told her I loved her.
06:57You don't want to get it started?
06:58It's okay.
06:59I should have told her I loved her.
07:01It's okay.
07:02Hey, it's okay.
07:03I'll never get to.
07:05It's okay.
07:06I'm so sorry.
07:08I'm so sorry.
07:09It's okay.
07:10Please forgive me.
07:12Officers ask Julia if there are other family members who can be contacted, but the teen's
07:17only immediate relatives are a father and brother living out of state.
07:21It's not a good sight so much.
07:23It's not a very family thing to do.
07:26I apologize for having feelings.
07:29It's okay.
07:32It's okay.
07:35If you need to throw up, throw up, okay?
07:38Nobody's going to judge you for that, right?
07:40There's absolutely no judgment here.
07:45Just love, okay?
07:47Poor girl.
07:48Jesus Christ.
07:49Yeah, she's sobbing.
07:51I should have said I love you more.
07:53She knows who most are.
07:56She said that they got into a fight tonight.
07:59Nicole's talking to her, so probably calm her down a bit.
08:02That's hope.
08:03Julia has moved farther down the driveway, kept out of earshot as officers discuss the details
08:08with a sergeant who has just arrived on scene.
08:10She said that she's sitting in the kitchen floor.
08:15Uh-huh.
08:16She's sitting in the bathroom.
08:18She's got shell casings in there and also a butcher knife in there.
08:23Okay.
08:23Outside the back door, there's an axe with a sledgehammer.
08:27Okay.
08:28Where he busted the door in.
08:29Okay.
08:29There's shells, not spent, but there's shell rounds outside the back door.
08:33That's right, too.
08:34Which look like the same ones that are in the bathroom.
08:36Okay.
08:36There's like three or four at the shell casings in the bathroom.
08:39Okay.
08:40The sergeant relays this information to an arriving detective, along with a harrowing theory.
08:46Shell casings are by him.
08:47Looks like murderous inside.
08:49You can see where he busted in through the screen door in the back.
08:53Yeah, there's an axe back there on the floor.
08:56There's in the back.
08:56Is she the male with her?
08:57Yeah, she's the daughter.
08:59She's the daughter.
08:59The female done out the male.
09:02I don't believe so.
09:03I don't know.
09:06And there is history of DV.
09:09Yeah.
09:10I guess there's history out here.
09:11Jessica, someone was our last call out here.
09:14I can go check the history.
09:15We had a signal aid here a couple weeks ago.
09:18She was signaling a couple weeks ago.
09:20One 16th, by the way.
09:21Three months earlier, on April 8th, 2024, officers had been called to the home for a domestic dispute
09:27between Kelly and Julia.
09:29Footage obtained from this incident reveals a troubling history between them.
09:33So my daughter, I'm having a hard time with my teenage daughter.
09:37Yep.
09:38Really hard time.
09:40She's been back corrected in the last, back corrected twice in the last month.
09:44She took the errors and would not give them back.
09:48I said, no, no, no.
09:48She would not give them back.
09:49She started to drink.
10:19I have her phone she's obsessed about.
10:20I grabbed the hoodie because you were running out the door, didn't know where you were going with the cell
10:25phone.
10:26Kelly explained that Julia went into the bathroom and locked the door.
10:29The officers went inside to ensure Julia's safety.
10:32You haven't made any kind of statements tonight and wanted to hurt your mom.
10:37I guess you guys got into an altercation.
10:39And were you drinking beer?
10:41I don't think so.
10:42I don't know.
10:43You don't think so?
10:44I'm just, no.
10:45It's kind of yes or no.
10:46No, it's a no.
10:47I'm just an ugly crier.
10:49So that's probably why my face looks red or whatever.
10:51Well, no, she said that you, like, I guess, possibly grabbed a beer out of the fridge.
10:56I think I just grabbed it to just be, like, annoy her or something.
11:00Look at me, look at me kind of thing.
11:01Yeah.
11:01I mean, I've done that.
11:04After ensuring Julia was okay and unharmed, the officer expressed his concerns, bringing up another past incident.
11:10We just don't want it to escalate to the point where we start making irrational statements or actions towards ourselves
11:19or someone else.
11:21Right?
11:21Because obviously that's when we get called.
11:23I mean, what happened last time that we came?
11:26You had to go to the hospital, huh?
11:27Yeah.
11:28Yeah.
11:29According to police records, during the previous call, Julia was sent for a psychiatric evaluation after taking too much Tylenol.
11:36If you're going through anything, I'd rather you talk than bottle it up.
11:40Because the moment you bottle it up, you're just going to keep piling stuff on and it's just going to
11:46blow up, right?
11:48That's usually what happens.
11:50I don't want that to happen.
11:51But now, three months later, a full-blown tragedy has just taken place and detectives must work to figure out
11:57exactly what happened.
11:59Julia explains to a detective that it was still light outside when an intruder came to the back door.
12:04After seeing him, Julia claims to have grabbed the two dogs and fled to the bedroom.
12:09I was in my room and it was so loud.
12:15It was so loud.
12:17What was loud?
12:19It was so quiet.
12:21The silence.
12:22I heard.
12:25What was loud?
12:27Like yelling?
12:28No, I think I heard gunshots.
12:32Okay.
12:34And when I heard those, I knew someone had died.
12:40I could feel it, you know?
12:42I don't know if that sounds stupid, but I just...
12:46So how long ago did you hear these gunshots?
12:49It was an hour-ish, maybe more.
12:53I just...
12:54I couldn't tell how much time passed.
12:57It just felt like so long.
12:59The silence was so loud.
13:02What did you see when you came out?
13:05It's a little...
13:06It's just a bloody mess.
13:08And then my boyfriend...
13:12I came home and killed them.
13:15Who killed them?
13:17I don't know.
13:19I had, of course, been braver, faster.
13:24I should still be here, my dog.
13:26The detective learns that Julia spoke with Kelly via text while she and Matthew were out of the house.
13:31But after reading this conversation, something clearly doesn't add up.
13:36You guys are having conversations.
13:39But you said it was light out when someone started breaking into the house.
13:44But these text conversations are happening at 9.15 p.m.
13:49I'm not exactly sure.
13:51Maybe I was...
13:52Maybe it was, like, sunset-ish.
13:55I don't know.
13:55But the confusion doesn't end with Julia's unclear timeline.
13:59Inside the home, officers struggle to make sense of a crime scene that becomes more puzzling by the second.
14:05So he must have been shooting as he came in.
14:08I don't...
14:08I think...
14:10But the casings are in the bathroom.
14:12Yeah, but there's a casing like...
14:13Or there's a...
14:14Right.
14:14He could have picked the casings up.
14:16I think he was waiting for her.
14:18Her backpack's there.
14:19Her shoes are off.
14:20Right.
14:21Like, she comes in, picks her shoes off, sits her backpack down.
14:25She's going to have to be shot on the right-hand side.
14:28Um, walks in the door.
14:31And then he comes out.
14:33He's sitting over here.
14:34Over here.
14:36Yeah.
14:37Mm-hmm.
14:37While there are multiple shell casings and unspent rounds of ammunition throughout the house,
14:42there's no sign of a gun anywhere.
14:44Is there guns inside the home?
14:47Yeah, there was.
14:48There was?
14:49Where did it go?
14:50I don't know.
14:52How do you know it's not there anymore?
14:55I don't know.
14:57I just...
14:59I went into my mom's room, and I...
15:01Before, I called 911, because I wanted to see if people were still here or not.
15:08Okay.
15:09What did you do when you were in your mom's room?
15:12She has this lockbox where she kept a lot of my things.
15:15So I looked in there to see if I had stolen any, like, electronics or anything, right?
15:20Because those are expensive.
15:21And I could see the holster where the gun was.
15:26It was empty.
15:28Along with the gun, Julia claims several boxes of ammunition were also missing from Kelly's room.
15:33The detective steps away momentarily, asking an officer to give Julia a pat-down.
15:39You're not in trouble or anything, but this is just for everybody.
15:42Nothing on you that's going to poke stickers down the gun.
15:45Are these your AirPods?
15:47Afterward, the detective calls the officer away from Julia.
15:51I'm sorry, are you asking a question?
15:52No, I'm talking.
15:54Something actually, like, what is anything?
15:56Mm-hmm.
15:57I don't ask my questions.
15:58I'm pretty sure she did.
16:00Rather than confront Julia outright, the detective continues asking questions,
16:04searching for anything else that might confirm her suspicions.
16:07Did you touch your mom?
16:10I don't think so.
16:11No.
16:11I didn't want to touch their bodies.
16:14It would be on the ground and stuff.
16:16I didn't know if it would make things worse.
16:19I didn't know what it would do.
16:21What do you mean by make things worse?
16:23Well, I didn't know if, like, it would hurt or if, like, I was, I don't know,
16:30that I was in more pain.
16:32I like moving her.
16:34I don't know.
16:36Okay, was she breathing when you saw her?
16:38I don't think so.
16:41Did you check to see if she had a pulse or anything like that?
16:46I didn't touch her, so, no, but I didn't hear her breathing,
16:51and there was a big pool of blood, so I just assumed, I guess.
16:56So you just what?
16:57Assumed, I guess.
16:59Is that, you did the same thing with Matthew?
17:02Assumed?
17:03They were all bloody.
17:05I didn't want to get blood all over my hands, I guess.
17:09Yeah.
17:09I don't know.
17:10I didn't want, I don't know, I just felt like if I did anything, it would make it worse.
17:15Still, blood seems to have transferred onto Julia's shoes,
17:18as bloody footprints are discovered throughout the house.
17:21Is this, you guys?
17:24No.
17:25No, that was not us, because we did not step in the room.
17:28These look like Converse.
17:30Yeah, those are, I think, daughters' shoes.
17:34And the gun, have you ever touched the gun?
17:37Um, a long time ago.
17:39My mom had me train with it, in case someone broke in.
17:45So you're familiar with, with guns and how they work, how they shoot?
17:50Okay.
17:51Well, I know it's a lot for you to process.
17:53I know it's a lot going on right now for you.
17:56So, um, obviously we're going to do our absolute best to figure out what happened here.
18:05Because, you know, it's your mom, right?
18:08So we want justice for your mom and her boyfriend to figure out who did this and why.
18:13Has anybody come to mind?
18:17My mom told me once that they were really into, like, drugs and stuff.
18:21I don't know if, if it was someone who had some kind of, like, grudge and came after them or,
18:27because this is just me, like, thinking out loud.
18:30Yeah.
18:31But they didn't really seem like they wanted me in particular.
18:34It was like, because if you think about it, if, I know that there was a dog who's barking
18:40and you don't like go into a room with a pit bull in it, that's obviously the only thing to
18:45do.
18:46Like, do you think they knew you were there?
18:48Well, I think they saw me, but I don't think they, I don't know.
18:54I didn't really pay attention to, I was, I was focusing on getting my dogs and me out of trouble,
19:03right?
19:03Because I've had them for years and loved them with all my heart.
19:08So why do you think it is that he didn't come after you?
19:11The dogs.
19:11By Julia's account, the killer smashed through the unlocked sliding glass door,
19:16took Kelly's gun and ammunition from her bedroom,
19:19waited for Kelly and Matthew to return home, shot them both, and fled.
19:23All while leaving behind a potential witness who could have identified him.
19:27It's a tall tale, but whether there's truth to any of it remains to be seen.
19:32For now, the detective leaves Julia in the company of an officer who keeps a watchful eye.
19:37It's like I'm in a bad dream, but I can't wake up.
19:41I can't even begin to imagine.
19:43I'm sorry.
19:44When I wake up tomorrow, my mom is a baby.
19:48To say, good morning, honey, how did you sleep?
19:52I'm going to jail.
19:54Why would you go to jail?
19:56You can't put me anywhere else.
19:58That's not what happens.
20:00While a search warrant is secured for the residence,
20:02Julia is taken to the police station and left in the care of two officers.
20:06Wow, what a night.
20:07It's been busy.
20:09Sorry to kind of like add more to your plate for you.
20:13Apologize.
20:15I don't know.
20:16Well, I get that a lot.
20:17I guess I just had a habit of doing it.
20:19Yeah.
20:20Hold on, wait.
20:21Did you hit the lady over there on Malapur earlier?
20:24That's where I was at.
20:25Somebody got hit by a car.
20:27Was it you?
20:28Okay.
20:29You apologized, so I thought I figured I'd ask.
20:31Oh, sorry.
20:32I did it.
20:33Wait, it was you?
20:35Yeah, it was.
20:36Yeah, I'm the criminal here.
20:38An officer then collects Julia's shoes, giving the teenager a pair of booties and a snack.
20:45My mom loves these.
20:53I'm sorry, man.
20:54By morning, Julia is still waiting for detectives to begin questioning.
20:59Officers assigned to Julia's care deliver breakfast and put on a popular anime called Death Note.
21:05The show centers on a teenager with a supernatural notebook that allows its user to kill anyone whose name is
21:11written in it, as long as they know the person's face.
21:18Finally, detectives bring Julia into the interrogation room, where the truth of what happened to Kelly and Matthew will soon
21:24come to light.
21:25But first, they address something new they've learned about Julia.
21:29I was informing you that you like to go by Jasper.
21:32Is that accurate?
21:32Because I don't want to, you know.
21:37Appreciate it.
21:37Yeah.
21:39And what are your pronouns?
21:40If you don't mind me asking.
21:41I usually go by Jasper.
21:42He?
21:43Okay.
21:44So, obviously, it's been a couple of hours.
21:46So, you've been with us.
21:47So, I've got to read you this thing, your rights first, and then we can go through everything with you
21:54and figure out what's going on.
21:56In Florida, juveniles have the same Miranda rights as adults, and courts have ruled that a parent does not have
22:01to be present before police questioning.
22:04After reading the Miranda warnings, the 16-year-old agrees to answer questions.
22:08Very quickly, investigators learn that Kelly and Julia had an argument just one day before the murders took place.
22:14Do you know what the argument is referenced?
22:17I think I wanted to go to, like, the party or something, and she didn't remind me about it, and
22:22I was mad at her for just going without me.
22:25I think it was something along those lines.
22:27But you wanted to go out and have a good time, too.
22:29Was it like a birthday party?
22:31I think so.
22:32Something like that.
22:32I don't know.
22:33So, she comes home with him, and you wake up, and you guys get into a little bit of a
22:41disagreement.
22:41You're expressing your frustrations, rightfully so.
22:43You wanted to go to this party.
22:46Um, and she's expressing her frustrations back.
22:49What is she saying back to you?
22:52Just this back and forth of, I did tell you, no, you didn't.
22:57Okay.
22:57So, what came of that?
22:59I think she took my iPod and my phone, but before she left again, she gave it back, so I'd
23:05be able to text her.
23:06According to Julia, when the devices were confiscated, Kelly would put them in the lockbox in her bedroom.
23:11So, I'd put them there to see if it's stolen any, like, electronics or anything, right, because those are expensive.
23:17Before they continue, Julia asked to use the restroom.
23:20They take the opportunity to collect the teenager's clothing for evidence, trading them for a jumpsuit.
23:26When questioning resumes, they press more about the ongoing disputes with Kelly.
23:31Well, me and her would have a lot of arguments about things, especially over, like, me being trans.
23:36So, she'd be like, you're not a real boy, and blah, blah, blah, and all, you know, the whole spiel
23:41of transphobic stuff.
23:43Okay.
23:44She doesn't approve of your lifestyle, but she doesn't approve of that?
23:49Would you say she's...
23:50She was, like, trying to kind of meet me in the middle, but it wasn't really working all that well
23:56all the time.
23:57She would try to call me child instead of...
24:00Because it's more, like, gender neutral rather than kind of meeting in the middle, I guess.
24:04Kelly's Facebook page is filled with photos that suggest they once shared a close pond.
24:09In a video Kelly posted in February of 2020, affectionately captioned, My Julia, the preteen proudly speaks in support of
24:17Kelly's business.
24:18My name is Julia, and I want to tell you about...
24:22If you want to learn more, go to my mom's website...
24:25But as the interrogation continues, it becomes clear the relationship between them had deeply fractured following Julia's decision to transition.
24:34Is she misgendering you?
24:36Yeah.
24:37So when you guys are arguing, is she intentionally, you know, calling you she, or not using the appropriate pronouns,
24:44or not referring to you as Jasper and referring to you as Julia?
24:48And, like, actually kind of being like...
24:52This is going to be kind of vulgar, but she'd be like, oh, you have breasts and a vagina and
24:55blah, and all that, you know, all that bullshit.
24:58Kind of shoving it in my face, and I'd yell back, I know, you don't think I know that?
25:02Because obviously it's kind of painful, because she would always say that, oh, they're dumb and stupid shit like that.
25:09No, it's not real.
25:10Even if you get the surgeries, it's not real, and things like that.
25:14Is that something you guys had discussed?
25:16Getting surgeries and whatnot?
25:17A lot, yeah.
25:18And she'd be like, oh, I don't want you to sew on a fake d*** and d*** like that.
25:23Three months earlier, during the domestic dispute call, Kelly discussed this ongoing conflict with police.
25:29Basically, the d*** the kids get into now, this whole trance, it's so bad.
25:33And I'm totally against it.
25:35But I still was kind.
25:37I was like, if you want to think you're a boy, you can think that.
25:42But you're my daughter, you're Julia, and you're just not going to talk about it then.
25:46As for Matthew, Julia says they never discussed it.
25:48So this was never a point of contention between them.
25:51Me and him didn't really talk a lot, it's a thing.
25:54We, like, were, like, kind of peaceful, but, like...
25:58Co-existing.
25:59Co-existing, that's the word.
26:00We weren't friends, but, like, we weren't necessarily enemies either.
26:05It's kind of just whatever.
26:06He's just a couple years older than you, right?
26:08Yeah.
26:09Yeah.
26:10How do you feel about that?
26:11No, I didn't like it.
26:14I mean, that's...
26:16I don't really support their relationships, the thing.
26:19So I think that's the only kind of, like, tension that there was between us.
26:22Because it would always be kind of awkward when it was just me and him in the house.
26:26Because we wouldn't say f*** to each other.
26:28Yeah.
26:28Because it's kind of like, I don't really want you here.
26:31And it was kind of obvious because I didn't support their relationship at all.
26:35With potential motives uncovered, investigators still must work to unravel a tangled story
26:40filled with many contradictions, unanswered questions, and disturbing clues.
26:45So circling back to the argument that you had today, she takes the iPod away and the phone.
26:54She ends up giving it back before she leaves.
26:56Where is she going?
26:57Or they, rather.
26:58They went to go get a bed frame for her bed because she got tired of it being on the
27:03floor.
27:03Julia claims Kelly and Matthew left together around 7 or 8 p.m.
27:08And shortly after is when the alleged intruder made his appearance.
27:12So what do you hear next after that?
27:14Well, I hide.
27:16And then I'm just sitting there hiding and the dogs are barking.
27:20And then I hear the glass shatter and come in.
27:24So I knew that it was probably him coming in.
27:27But hours earlier, an officer waiting with Julia made a crucial observation, raising the
27:32possibility that someone else may have broken the glass door.
27:35What happened to your hand?
27:37Oh, it's just an old scar.
27:39Did you get into an accident or something?
27:42One day I'd come home from doing whatever I was doing and I forgot my key and mom was at
27:49home, so I just broke my window and got in.
27:53You punched the window?
27:55There was no rocks or anything outside?
27:58Um, not that I could find, but it's not like it's, like, hurting or anything.
28:06It's just still covering, I guess.
28:10According to police records, the glass from the backsliding door was found on top of Julia's
28:14bloody footprints, as well as Kelly's leg and Matthew's cell phone, meaning the glass had
28:20been shattered after the murders took place.
28:22Though the detectives are aware of this fact, they allow Julia to continue the story.
28:27After a while, when he's walking around, I can hear him, like, doing something and then
28:33there's, like, a lot of, like, banging and I hear, like, wood cracking and stuff.
28:43I think he, I think he kicked down the door to my mom's room.
28:48Julia says nearly an hour passed with the intruder in the house before Kelly and Matthew arrived home.
28:53How did you know it was them walking through the door?
28:58I don't know, I guess I just assumed, because I think I heard their voices or kind of, I couldn't
29:06say, like, tell what they were saying,
29:08but it sounded like, kind of sounded like them, so I assumed it was them.
29:13And that's when I heard, um, the loud, like, banging that I assumed was, like, gunshots or something, and yelling.
29:22Who was yelling?
29:25I think, I think Matthew was yelling.
29:28And what was he yelling?
29:30I think it was something along the lines of, like, stop or something.
29:34Have you heard of gunshots before?
29:36Yeah.
29:37And did it sound like?
29:39Gunshots.
29:39Gunshots to you?
29:40Yeah.
29:41Okay.
29:41And how many gunshots do you think you heard?
29:45Um, like, five, six-ish, maybe.
29:49But once again, Julia shared something with the officer in the lobby that suggests the 16-year-old was much
29:54closer to the gunshots.
29:56Is that alright?
29:57Yeah, it's, I don't know, it's up in my ears, kind of messing with me.
30:04Did you get in the ear or something lately?
30:07Some, uh, things happened, and some loud gunshots, so, um, yeah, I think that's what's making this ring.
30:18Hopefully I don't have tinnitus now.
30:21Yeah.
30:21How close were you to the gunshots?
30:24I was in a different room, but it was still loud enough.
30:29Must have been a pretty big gun, then.
30:31Not really.
30:32It was just, I think they took the one that was in my mom's room, that behind picture of it,
30:40I think.
30:42What kind of gun did your mom have?
30:44I don't remember, but it was, like, a handgun.
30:47And on the standard of handguns, it was pretty small.
30:51Like, smaller than that one.
30:53Okay.
30:53Kelly's .38 Special Revolver was found in the backyard, just underneath Julia's bedroom window.
30:59Julia again explains that more than an hour passed before it felt safe enough to emerge from the bedroom.
31:04When I actually, um, came out, um, the first thing I saw was blood on the ground.
31:16Outside your bedroom door?
31:20Okay.
31:21Then what did you see next?
31:27I, uh, I looked to the left, and that's when I saw, um, Matthew on the ground.
31:38Did it look like he was breathing when you looked into the bathroom, Matt?
31:42I think I could hear him faintly, his, like, gurgling.
31:49Okay.
31:49Despite signs that Matthew may have still been alive, Julia didn't call for an ambulance.
31:55And I remember at some point, I went in my mom's room and saw that the door had been, like,
32:03kind of looked like it had been, like, busted in.
32:07Again, I was checking to see if anything had been stolen, and I saw the lockbox where,
32:14I assume my mom kept most of my devices when she took them.
32:18And, you know, again, devices are expensive.
32:21Such as?
32:23Like, like my iPod or my phone that my dad had shut off, things like that.
32:33Okay.
32:33So you saw those in there?
32:35So they hadn't been stolen?
32:36Mm-mm.
32:37Are these your AirPods?
32:38Mm-mm.
32:39And that gun that your mom has, the one that was missing, have you ever touched that gun before?
32:48That's what I used to get trained for, um, my gun certificate.
32:54With Julia's account conflicting with evidence found at the scene, investigators confront the
32:58teenager directly.
32:59To be quite honest with you, we don't believe that this is how this happened.
33:04Okay.
33:04All right.
33:06We've looked over this crime scene, and there's things in this crime scene that's not adding
33:11up to what you're saying.
33:12Okay?
33:13Because I don't believe the story about someone coming into the house.
33:18We looked at your surveillance camera.
33:20Okay?
33:21We don't see nobody coming through that back door.
33:24We see your parents coming home through the front door.
33:28We see bloody footprints inside the, uh, the dining room area in front of the rear sliding
33:34glass door underneath the glass.
33:37That blood should be on top of the glass.
33:39I'm mad you straight up.
33:41Okay?
33:42Are you the reason why did you hurt your parents today, your mom and mother?
33:46And if you did, was there a reason why you had to do it?
33:52Theoretically speaking, let's say what you're saying that it was theoretically speaking, let's
33:58say that it was me, right?
34:00What?
34:01So if I'm going to be honest with you, it's not really theoretical at this point.
34:06Everything he just stated to you is, is telling us that something happened that you're not telling
34:12us.
34:13Julia tries to argue that there are blind spots on their security cameras, and an intruder
34:17could have simply avoided them.
34:19But the detective reminds Julia that an intruder would have had to know where those blind spots
34:24were ahead of time, something that is very unlikely in their experience.
34:29Now, you was just about to say, what if it was you that did this?
34:33I was saying theoretically.
34:34Okay.
34:35Theoretically what?
34:36What?
34:37You said that, get it off your chest and whatever, but it's like, that just, that's
34:42not how that works.
34:44It's.
34:44Of course, of course, of course, it's not, it's not going to go away that quick.
34:48It's not.
34:49But you gives us a reason.
34:51Other people are going to look at this interview and they're going to want to know, is this
34:55a monster over here or is this somebody who made a terrible mistake?
35:00Did you shoot your mom and Matthew today?
35:04Well, you're basically saying that I did, so do you even need my answer?
35:08While the remainder of Julia's interview was redacted, the detectives provided a detailed
35:13summary of the chilling confession that followed.
35:16Julia admitted to breaking into Kelly's bedroom while she was gone, obtaining the revolver and
35:21ammunition.
35:21The teenager then waited in the kitchen for Kelly and Matthew to arrive home, with a gun
35:27in one hand and a knife hidden in a pants pocket.
35:30When they walked through the front door at 10.34 p.m., Julia told them, welcome home.
35:36Julia confessed to shooting and killing Kelly before turning the gun on Matthew, who pleaded
35:40for the teen to stop.
35:42Julia then followed Matthew into the bathroom where he retreated, stabbing him multiple times
35:47after running out of ammunition.
35:49Finally, Julia reloaded the revolver and shot Matthew one more time in the head, ultimately
35:55killing him.
35:56Julia then shattered the sliding glass door and tossed the gun outside near the bedroom
36:00window in an attempt to stage the crime scene as a break-in, and called 911 roughly 90 minutes
36:07later.
36:07Julia admitted to reaching a breaking point over Kelly's lack of support for the teen's transition
36:12and Julia's lack of support for Kelly's relationship with 22-year-old Matthew.
36:16According to court documents, on August 6, 2024, Julia Egler was indicted on two counts of first-degree
36:24premeditated murder with a firearm and was held without bond.
36:28Julia Egler entered a written plea of not guilty, and the case is ongoing.
36:33A public statement released by the Florida State's Attorney's Office confirms that Julia
36:37will be prosecuted as an adult, adding that the teenager is not eligible to receive the
36:42death penalty by law.
36:43Julia Ebner threw her back in debt to her, and the case is not eligible for the illegal
36:43Julia Egler is also eligible for the 18-year-old portray мен drug
36:43Julia Egler
36:43her four of his partners feet off. Juliaええ
