00:09The End
00:46¶¶
01:04Guys, you have so much fun on this show, and this is the final season.
01:10How, how, you're going to miss this.
01:13Oh my God, are we going to miss this.
01:15Not too much, though, because Vaught Rising is coming next year.
01:19But, thank you, and it's going to be amazing.
01:23But it's been such a journey, and for me, I went to college with Eric Kripke.
01:30I've been working with him all through Supernatural and Revolution, all these other shows.
01:34So, 30 years sort of have led to this insane show that defies explanation and surprises people every week.
01:45That's the thing that, not that the new show won't have it, but that's the thing that I'm going to
01:50miss, this, like, the water coolerness of it all.
01:54You know, I've been in pizza places where, like, I walk in and I overhear someone going, do you believe
02:01the penis exploded?
02:02Like, literally, that's what happened.
02:04Like, all the time this happened.
02:06And I don't, you know, it's amazing to be a part of a show that has entered pop culture like
02:11that.
02:11Yeah, the cast has been, you know, posting pictures, which is very cool to see.
02:15And so, I was like, oh, I'm going to look through my phone.
02:17And I did find some footage from Sonic Fuel, Chris's studio, from 2018.
02:21And I was like, oh, man, that's a good chunk of our life working on this show.
02:26And it's going to be sad to see it go.
02:29And it was a privilege to be able to work on it creatively.
02:34I mean, the bar is high.
02:36So, whose idea was it to write a gospel piece for this season?
02:41Right?
02:42So, well, that was Eric Kripke all the way and our amazing writer's room.
02:49A little respect for A-Train.
02:51Obviously, there's a lot of dying this season, which has got us all verklempt.
02:56But when they said, A-Train's going to go, and he said, we need to take faster and make it,
03:03like, a giant anthem.
03:06For those of you non-boys fans, Fasters, a song that was from season two.
03:14And so, it was a full-on rap song in season two that Jesse Usser, who plays A-Train, did,
03:19which was amazing.
03:20But Eric wanted it fully reimagined.
03:22And obviously, I got all those amazing singers.
03:24And shout out to Bryson Camper, who did an amazing gospel arrangement.
03:28But, yeah, it was just amazing.
03:30Now, typically, each season, if I recollect this, Eric will give you a note that is, you haven't gone far
03:40enough.
03:40Can you share with us how you didn't go far enough in the final season here?
03:47Well, the big one I can't share with you.
03:50Because that's coming up in a couple weeks.
03:53Do not get us in trouble.
03:55Yes, we're not going to get in trouble.
03:56But I will say, you know, it started right from the beginning this season because we had, you know, obviously
04:06the Homelander video came out of him crashing the plane or, you know, lasering the plane and causing the crash.
04:11There's all those kind of things that have sort of started to compound to, like, create this, like, speed towards
04:19the end of the thing.
04:19And so there's been so many, you know, if anyone hasn't seen, like, Firecracker died last week.
04:25Like, every week, sorry, spoiler, if you didn't see it, but it's out.
04:29So literally every week, somebody's dying.
04:33And so it's only caused us to up the quotient.
04:38There's actually a lot more motion this year, too.
04:40There's a lot more orchestra, especially as we get to 6, 7, and 8, because it deserves it.
04:46It needs this, you know, we've fallen in love with these crazy characters, and now we've got to, unfortunately, say
04:52goodbye to some of them.
04:53So it's been cool.
04:55The very first cue we wrote of the season, it was like, hey, what do you, it was a recap
05:00of what got us to this point.
05:02And, you know, what are your notes, Eric?
05:03And pardon my French, I'm just quoting him.
05:05He said, blow the fucking doors off.
05:07I was like, okay.
05:08And so the very first cue of season five is one of the biggest cues we've written in the entire
05:14franchise.
05:14And that's just kind of what set the tone for the rest of the season.
05:17Can you tease for us anything about Voight Rising, like maybe some of your R&D or some of the
05:25instruments you're using?
05:28Not specifics, but I will just say that there has been a lot of R&D that we started doing
05:33last summer.
05:35And the show takes place in 1950.
05:371950, that is all public knowledge, and it is obviously starring Soldier Boy, the amazing Jensen Ackles, and Aya Cash,
05:45who just got a Tony nomination yesterday, so let's give her a shout as well.
05:51And so there are Nazis, and there are 1950s, you know, political movements and all this kind of stuff.
05:58And Paul Graylung, who is running the show and wrote it, who's been a writer on The Boys the whole
06:02time and is just a genius, has some really special stuff cooked up.
06:07Because it's not the same show, but it's got everything you love, and then all kinds of new stuff, too.
06:13Christopher Lennertz, Matt Bowen, Prime Video's The Boys.
