00:07under the influence of alcohol have been submitted to the Kuala Lumpur Deputy Public Prosecutor's
00:13Office for further instructions.
00:15Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department Chief, Assistant Commissioner
00:20Mohamed Zamzuri Mohamed Issa, said the papers were submitted at 3pm on Monday.
00:26He added that the suspect's remand has been extended from Monday until Friday under Section
00:31302 of the Penal Code for Murder.
00:34In the incident, a husband and wife were killed after their motorcycle was struck by a car
00:40near Manara Great Eastern along Jalan Ampang on May 2.
00:46Police are still awaiting toxicology results to determine whether the driver was under the
00:51influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident.
00:55The case, initially classified under Section 41 Subsection 1 of the Road Transport Act 1987,
01:03has since been reclassified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for Murder.
01:09The family of the victims has called for swift justice after learning that the case is being
01:13investigated under the murder provision.
01:16The deceased have been identified as E Menaga and her husband E Dorai Singam.
01:21They died at the scene from severe head injuries, leaving behind three children aged between 19
01:27and 26.
01:28Preliminary investigations found that the driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle
01:33before crashing into the rear of the couple's motorcycle at about 5.34 a.m.
01:40The 24-year-old driver and two male passengers, aged 23 and 24, were travelling towards Kuala Lumpur
01:47city centre at the time.
01:49The driver and front passenger sustained head injuries and were sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital
01:54for treatment, while the rear passenger suffered minor facial bruises and received outpatient
02:00care.
02:00Police arrested the driver after he went to the Jalantun HS Lee traffic police station
02:06to have his statement recorded on Monday night, following his discharge from the hospital.
