00:01The Transport Ministry is preparing proposals to tighten laws against drink driving following
00:07a fatal crash in Klang, Sir Larngor on Sunday.
00:10In a statement on Monday, Minister Anthony Luke said the amendments to the Road Transport
00:15Act 1987 could make it mandatory for offenders to compensate victims' families, in addition
00:22to serving prison sentences.
00:23The Ministry also extended condolences to the family of Amirul Hafiz Omar, who died after
00:30being struck by a driver under the influence of alcohol and drugs on Jalanraya Bharat Klang.
00:37Luke urged the police to swiftly complete the investigations into the 11.40am incident so
00:43the case papers can be referred to the Attorney General's chambers.
00:47He expressed hope that the court will impose the maximum sentence if the offender is found
00:52guilty.
00:52The alleged driver, in his twenties, has been remanded for four days from Monday until
00:58April 2 to assist with the investigation.
01:01South Klang OCPD Assistant Commissioner Lim Jit Hui confirmed that the case is being investigated
01:08under Section 44, Subsection 1 of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 15, Subsection 1, Subsection
01:17of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
