00:00Imagine a game. The moment you open it, you hear that music.
00:03You enter that lobby. You form teams with your friends.
00:05And hours pass by without you even realizing it.
00:08You say there's another match at 2 AM, and before you know it, it's 5 AM.
00:11That's exactly what the S2 final weapon was.
00:13Perhaps one of Türkiye's most beloved, most cherished, but also most tragically lost games.
00:19someone.
00:19I'm going to tell you that story today.
00:21How did it start, how did it grow, why did it close, and most importantly, what is its current state?
00:24We will address each one individually.
00:26But you can't fully understand the story without knowing the background first.
00:29So let's go back to the beginning.
00:31It all starts with CJ Game Lab and its parent company Netmarble.
00:34Netmarble was a large gaming company operating under the umbrella of CJ Corporation, based in South Korea.
00:40Some people may not have heard of CJ Corporation, but it's actually an incredibly large Korean holding company.
00:44Television channels, food companies, pharmaceutical companies, and, on top of all that, a game controller.
00:48Netmarble is precisely this arm.
00:51Netmarble experienced significant growth in the early 2000s.
00:54But this growth also brought with it significant risks.
00:56The company faced significant financial pressure when trying to invest in PC games, mobile games, and different markets simultaneously.
01:03Debts piled up, and relentless lawsuits followed.
01:06And the company went through some really tough times for a while.
01:09To overcome this crisis, they made a crucial decision in 2011.
01:12To offer shares to the public.
01:13This move yielded much better results than expected.
01:16Investor interest was high, shares rose, and Netmarble regained the financial strength to breathe again.
01:21This fresh money paved the way for new projects.
01:23And one of these projects would lay the foundation for a game that would later capture the hearts of millions of Turkish gamers.
01:28But Netmarble didn't want to focus solely on the Asian market.
01:31At that time, the demand for free-to-play FPS games in Europe was incredibly high.
01:36Millions of players were looking for a game like this.
01:38And there weren't many options on the market that truly filled that gap.
01:41Netmarble saw this opportunity.
01:43And in 2009, he founded Joy Game.
01:45Joy Game had only one goal.
01:46To enter the European market and attract its player base.
01:49Joy Game made its first major move as soon as it was founded and brought Wolf Team to Europe.
01:53This move was quite successful.
01:54Wolf Team has gained a significant player base in Europe, and especially in Türkiye.
01:58Joy Game had passed its first test.
02:00But this was just the beginning.
02:01The real big move was yet to come.
02:03If this is your first time watching this video and you're interested in these kinds of gaming stories, don't forget to subscribe.
02:08The channel has dozens of videos like this, and many more are on the way.
02:11Now let's look at how S2 was born.
02:13Joy Game was founded.
02:14Wolf Team had established itself in Europe.
02:16But that wasn't enough for Netmarble.
02:18Staying in the market with just one game was a risky strategy.
02:20Both competitors were constantly coming up with new things.
02:22And the audience wanted more and more with each passing day.
02:25Therefore, CJ Game Lab, Netmarble's development arm, put its new project on the table.
02:30This project was known globally as Discreak 187 Sin Street's.
02:33As the name suggests, Ham was an urban FPS game centered around street fights, gangs, and the police.
02:38There were two sides in the game.
02:39Swat and Gangster.
02:40One represented the law, the other was trying to control the streets.
02:44This organization was truly new at the time.
02:46And it added a completely different atmosphere to the game.
02:48The game was released globally on November 20, 2012.
02:51And it was also released on Steam.
02:53But the story unfolded a little differently for Türkiye.
02:55Joy Game has positioned this game specifically for Turkish players.
02:58He translated it into Turkish and gave it a new name.
03:00S2 is the final weapon.
03:01The closed beta in Türkiye began on June 1, 2012.
03:04Even before the global exit.
03:05The official opening took place on June 12, 2012.
03:08At that time, FPS games were very similar to each other.
03:11Two teams will play a map with a bomb or a one-shot headshot.
03:14This is everything.
03:14S2, however, added a different layer on top of that.
03:17There was a weapon modification system.
03:18You could customize your weapons both mechanically and visually.
03:21The clan system was truly functional.
03:23Clans battled for territories on the map during weekly Street Fight events.
03:28There were also game modes.
03:30In addition to the classic team deep match, there were modes offering completely different dynamics, such as bank robbery.
03:35When you activated bank robbery mode, you didn't even realize how the hours were flying by.
03:38Team coordination, strategy, quick decisions.
03:40This mod alone took the S2 to a whole new level.
03:43In Türkiye, however, it has reached a completely different dimension.
03:45S2 surpassed the number of players Wolf Team gained in 4 years in just 1 year.
03:49Moreover, he didn't do it alone.
03:50At that time, there were dozens of similar FPS games on the market.
03:53Everyone was fighting for this cake.
03:55In fact, many of you first encountered the S2 through an advertisement.
03:59That's how I met them too.
04:00That advertisement appeared somewhere.
04:01I was curious, so I downloaded it, and then there was no response.
04:03S2 managed to stand out from the crowded FPS genre.
04:07Because Turkish players really embraced this game.
04:10Planning culture has developed.
04:11Tournaments were organized.
04:12The forms came to life.
04:13The game suddenly ceased to be just a software program.
04:15It became a community.
04:16A golden age was on the horizon, but beneath every golden age lie problems that grow quietly.
04:212012 and 2013 were truly golden years for the S2.
04:24The servers were there too, carrying it.
04:26New players arrived every day.
04:27Clan wars were raging fiercely.
04:29Internet cafe culture was still very strong in Türkiye.
04:31And when you went into those cafes, half of the screens had the S2 on.
04:34When you called your friend and said, "Hey, let's play S2," nobody said no.
04:38This game had become a common denominator for a generation.
04:40At that time, Joy Game was simultaneously carrying both Wolf Team and S2.
04:44Although these two games were under the same roof, they had become rivals.
04:47Wolf Team had a dedicated player base.
04:49The S2, on the other hand, offered a more dynamic and fresh feel.
04:52Wolf Team was a game for the older generation.
04:54S2 is the new generation.
04:55And this competition forced both games to get better.
04:58The best thing about this competition for the players was this.
05:00New content was constantly being added.
05:02New modes, new weapons, special events, free rewards.
05:05The competitive environment directly benefited the player.
05:07And during this period, the S2 community benefited greatly from this situation.
05:10S2's weekly Street Fight system truly set the game apart from its competitors.
05:15Each week, clans clashed over territories on the map.
05:18Which clan took which territory, and how did the leadership charts shape up this week?
05:21This system added a constantly evolving competitive atmosphere to the game.
05:24It's not just about winning matches, it's about growing your clan, conquering territories, and surpassing rival clans.
05:28All of this made S2 a game that people played for weeks, months, and years.
05:32The weapon modification system was also truly unique for its time.
05:35You could upgrade your weapon not only visually, but also mechanically.
05:39The barrel, stock, and magazine—every part could be customized individually.
05:42This system gave the player a sense of ownership.
05:45That gun was no longer just a gun, it was your gun.
05:47But beneath every good period, there are problems that grow quietly.
05:51Remember, Netmarble considered this game a PC experiment.
05:54Remember the company? For a company whose main revenue comes from mobile games, S2 was never a priority.
06:00Things weren't going well on the global servers.
06:02The game had not received the expected interest in the Korean and Asian markets.
06:05For Netmarble, being successful in Europe and Türkiye wasn't enough.
06:08Because the company wanted global success.
06:10Indeed, on October 3, 2013, Netmarble shut down the global servers for Discreek 187.
06:16Steam removed it and shut down its Asian servers.
06:19The official statement was brief and said almost nothing.
06:22Players didn't even know why it was shut down.
06:24But for Türkiye, the end was not yet near.
06:26Joy Game continued to keep its servers running in Türkiye.
06:29People were still playing.
06:30The servers were still full.
06:32However, it was necessary to realize this.
06:33The development team had disbanded.
06:35From the moment Netmarble shut down its global servers
06:38The vast majority of developers at CJ Game Lab have left.
06:41No new content would be added.
06:42The game was left to its own devices.
06:44And the same thing happens in any game left to its own devices.
06:47Healers begin to emerge.
06:48If the gaps aren't closed, the number of players will gradually dwindle.
06:51The real collapse was about to begin.
06:522014 was a gradually darkening period for the S2.
06:55The game was still on.
06:57The servers were still running, but something had changed.
07:00That old energy was gone.
07:01The lobbies were packed, but the excitement, the competitive atmosphere, the feeling of wanting just one more match was gradually fading.
07:06There wasn't just one reason for this.
07:07Problems were piling up, one after another, and the game was starting to crumble under the weight.
07:11The biggest problem was cheating.
07:13After Netmarble shut down its global servers, the development team disbanded.
07:17The anti-cheat system wasn't being updated.
07:19The gaps were not being closed.
07:20Cheaters, noticing this loophole, swarmed into the game.
07:22You'd enter a match, and on the other side were players who could pass through walls, use unlimited ammo, and automatically aim at your head.
07:28Playing fairly had become almost impossible.
07:31Joy Game has not taken any serious steps to resolve this issue.
07:33He wasn't even in a condition to throw it.
07:35Because he wasn't fully familiar with the game's source code.
07:38It was the authorized distributor in Türkiye.
07:40He wasn't the developer.
07:41We weren't receiving support from Netmarble.
07:43He couldn't solve these technical problems on his own.
07:46There was a game that was left unfinished.
07:47The number of players dwindled rapidly.
07:49First the tournament players left, then the clan leaders resigned.
07:52Then the regular players left one by one.
07:54The forms were filled with complaint messages.
07:56It's full of cheating.
07:57Playing has become torture.
07:58Where are the developers?
08:00Why is there no sound?
08:01Is this game dying?
08:02No one was giving an official answer.
08:03Joy Game had quietly switched to another plan during this period.
08:06He had developed a new game of his own.
08:08RIP.
08:09And they planned to use S2 as a bridge.
08:11If you were playing S2, you could link it to your RIP account.
08:14You were earning extra rewards.
08:16They were trying to attract the remaining S2 player base to the new game.
08:19But RIP didn't work.
08:20Its first year is behind us.
08:22The plan had completely collapsed.
08:23The S2 had become worthless for Joy Game.
08:26In their eyes, it wasn't a game worth investing in.
08:28It had become a burden that only generated server costs.
08:31The decision had been made.
08:32April 11, 2015 at 23:59
08:34S2's latest weapon has officially shut down its servers in Türkiye.
08:37No grand announcement was made, nor was a farewell ceremony befitting the players held.
08:41The servers were quietly shut down.
08:43Characters you've dedicated years to, weapons you've collected, territories you've conquered with your clan.
08:47They all disappeared in an instant.
08:49The screen went black and never turned back on.
08:50Social media was buzzing that night.
08:52The forms were overflowing.
08:53Some wrote farewell messages.
08:54Some have shared their latest screenshots.
08:56Some simply remained silent.
08:58Because some things are difficult to express in words.
09:00Closing a game isn't just about closing a software program.
09:03It's the disappearance of a world that grew up with you, where you formed friendships and spent hours together.
09:08S2 was gone.
09:09But the story wasn't over.
09:11This is usually what happens when a game closes.
09:13The players get upset and move on to other games.
09:15And over time, that game is forgotten.
09:17It will fade into the dustbin of history.
09:18But for the S2 final weapon, this scenario never happened.
09:21After the game closed, signature campaigns began on the forums.
09:24Thousands of messages were sent asking for S2 to be brought back.
09:26Emails were sent to Joy Game and Netmarble.
09:28But of course, there was no reply from any of them.
09:30The companies had already focused on other things.
09:33S2 was a closed chapter for them.
09:35But it wasn't closed for the players.
09:36Years passed. In 2016, 2017, and 2018, there were still people searching for S2, missing it, and wondering if it could somehow be brought back.
09:44Discord servers have been set up.
09:45Former players reunited.
09:47And a significant group began to form within these communities as well.
09:50People with software knowledge and experience in reverse engineering.
09:53They decided to bring back S2.
09:55This was an incredibly difficult task.
09:57The game's source code was not publicly available.
09:59When Netmarble shut down, it took the code with it.
10:02What did he have? Just the old game client.
10:04So those are the old installation files.
10:06It was necessary to reverse engineer these and build the server side from scratch.
10:10Think of it this way.
10:11All you have is the exterior body of a car.
10:13No engine, no steering wheel, no brakes.
10:15And you're trying to get this car running.
10:17Just by looking from the outside.
10:19Foreign software developers like Edit Z and Zardonik shouldered this challenging process.
10:22They first cracked the game's package encryption using reverse engineering.
10:26They then managed to connect to the server list.
10:28This seemingly small step was actually a huge milestone.
10:32Because they had done something that no one had been able to do for years.
10:34Finally, Edit Z made his first appearance in the game.
10:37And he documented it with a video.
10:39That video caused a veritable earthquake within the S2 community.
10:42A game that closed years ago, and nobody believed it would ever return.
10:45It was being brought back to life thanks to the dedication of a volunteer team.
10:48This project, currently accessible via S2PrivateServer.com,
10:52A community-run, non-profit private server operation.
10:56It has no affiliation with the official game company.
10:58Netmarble or Joygame may not even be aware of this.
11:01It's a project that's entirely volunteer-based, entirely for the actors, and entirely built on love.
11:05It is currently playable in PvP mode.
11:07The core game modes are working.
11:08Features such as the achievement system, level system, and end-of-match reward mechanics are still under development.
11:14So the game isn't perfect, it has flaws, but it's still standing.
11:16And it's rising a little more every day.
11:18The project is actively followed by over 1390 members on the Discord server.
11:22Former S2 players are reuniting after many years.
11:24The same lobbies, the same voices, the same feeling.
11:27If you miss this game and want to go back to those old days,
11:31Go to s2privateserver.com.
11:33Register, download, and play.
11:35Free, ad-free, just the game.
11:36But it's important to remember that this is a PvP server.
11:39The S2, the final weapon, was a legend.
11:41Legends never die.
11:42See you in the next video, goodbye.
