00:23Okay, we'd like to start.
00:30Hi Lovar, pleased with the way you came back from going behind twice?
00:35Yes, absolutely pleased with the performance.
00:39The first ten minutes told the players at half-time we could see the difference between Conference League and Premier
00:45League.
00:45Conference League is also very technical, but Premier League is so physical.
00:50We were 1-0 down, it looked like a déjà vu from the Bournemouth game.
00:54Corner, near post, conceding, of course we talked about it, but the reaction was great to be honest.
01:01Then we came back into the game, I think played well, scored an amazing goal and the second half almost
01:08the same.
01:09So there was no chance, but then we were making one mistake and we were 2-1 down.
01:14And then when you had a game three days ago, playing against Everton, who is really playing very well, defending
01:22very well.
01:23Everybody knows when they're defending a deep block, it's not so easy to create chances against them.
01:27But then the way we played, the way we created chances, the commitment, the desire, the confidence, the determination we
01:35had to play forward,
01:37to create chances to score a goal was awesome for me and at the end fully deserved.
01:44And for me, then the reaction, I laughed and it's not now, OK, taking a press, it's 2-2, save
01:52the point, it was OK, let's go for the win.
01:55And at the end it felt like Everton had played three days ago because we looked fresher and that's a
02:03huge credit to the players.
02:04It's interesting you talk about like Everton looking, also your team looking fresher.
02:10Because obviously last week you spoke about the mental fatigue.
02:13They didn't look mentally fatigued or really that, apart from moments, physically fatigued.
02:18Do you think that partly was because of the momentum and the excitement of Thursday night getting to the Conference
02:22League final?
02:23Why do you think that was?
02:25Yeah, I think the difference is the Bournemouth game was between the two semi-finals, you know.
02:31Let's say the job in the Conference League was not done, whereas now we have two and a half weeks
02:35time
02:36so the final is so far away and in our schedule, it was our 56th game I think of the
02:41season,
02:42in our schedule two and a half weeks feels like eternity, you know, so we don't think about it and
02:46talk about it.
02:47And also right now we have to prepare for City and not for Vallecano and this was the opposite,
02:53this was different to the Bournemouth game.
02:56We knew it's just half-time, we also had the travelling and honestly the players looked much better yesterday,
03:04that's why I also decided not to rotate a lot.
03:08It was just the strikers and Jeremy Pino was sick so that's why he was not involved in today's game.
03:15But I think it was a little bit different and also towards the players because this is, I think that
03:24also the development, for example,
03:26because I remember when we played Everton away with excellent first 60 minutes but then we dropped off.
03:32We had also a Thursday night game, we were physically fatigued and today it was the opposite.
03:40So, and I think this is just the development and the progression the team made when we are talking about
03:46dealing with situations,
03:48using the experience to learn, I think today was an evidence that the team is really learning,
03:55but on the other side in three days we have to go again. But this performance today will help us
04:03to play a great game at City Grand.
04:05That point obviously means you're that much closer, that little bit closer to Premier League safety.
04:11Has there been any sort of nagging concern in the back of your mind or the players' minds at all
04:16about getting to that point
04:18and if West Ham don't win tonight then you will be safe? Would that help going forward as well, do
04:24you think?
04:25Yeah, we said we want to make the Premier League clear, is it right? This Sunday was a win, that's
04:36why we wanted to win.
04:37Because we never want to depend on somebody else, we always want to decide it ourselves and this was the
04:43way we played
04:44and this is what I liked. And now let's see how the game is going.
04:52But to be honest, if we play like we played today, we will make enough points to stay in the
04:58league,
04:58even when we play City and Arsenal and at Brentford, so it's maybe not the easiest games to play.
05:05But we have shown that we are competitive against any team if we have this mentality, if we have this
05:10spirit
05:11and if we have this commitment to the game. And so that's why at the end, yes, we're talking about
05:19it.
05:21But we will get enough points, definitely.
05:26There was an incident at the end of the first half, it looked like a penalty should have been given
05:30to Crystal Palace.
05:31What were your views on that?
05:33With Jürgen?
05:34Yes. And did you have a few words with David Moyes about that incident?
05:39No, David and I, even David is a bit older than I, but we said in the dugout, we said
05:48we are old school and the referee has a few too soft decisions but on both sides.
05:54So, I watched it back, Joanne showed it to me and to be honest, it shouldn't be a penalty.
06:01So, in the Premier League, no, I think it's what really the Premier League is famous for.
06:09And, yeah, it was a push, but again, this sort kind of pushes you in every set play so often.
06:17So, I think it would have helped us, but I think it was OK.
06:27You said in your programme notes that Everton were a formidable opponent.
06:31I mean, how satisfied were you?
06:33Are you able to adapt from the Conference League requirements on Thursday to have very different tests today and coming
06:39back twice?
06:41Yes, very, very pleased and very proud on the players.
06:47I told them afterwards, because this is, you know, it's in sports, you can win and lose, but the approach
06:54to a game, the way you play, the confidence you have, the style.
06:59I think today, and we're always talking about, we want to show our style of play and we want to
07:03show our personality.
07:04And I have seen it today in the entire game, struggling a little bit coming into the game and finding
07:11this switch,
07:13but then adapting quickly and then playing our game and also accepting the strengths of Everton.
07:23They are good in set plays and they just scored against City, so everybody is preparing.
07:27They're just doing so great deliveries and they're physically so strong and they have a lot of belief in what
07:32they are doing.
07:33Then they go quite direct forward, also when Pickford plays their long balls and they are strong and then it's
07:39okay.
07:40We have to compete on the other side and this is, our first goal was the same.
07:44They pressed us high and we went long and Jürgen Schoenblasen wins the duel.
07:48We pick up the second ball and then we play and score a nice goal.
07:51Sometimes it's not a rocket science football, it's just do the basics right and I think we did the basics
07:56right.
07:57We also played some good football but Everton on the other side as well.
08:01They were also always threatening, so when we made one or two mistakes at the end,
08:05they had one or two good transitions but overall it was a very good performance.
08:18It's clear that supporters have only got one thing on their minds at the moment.
08:21They're thinking about Leipzig throughout, so how important is it?
08:28Did you see out there today the fact that your players are able to put it to one side?
08:33Does that performance show you that they're capable of doing that?
08:36Yes, exactly.
08:38I think, as I mentioned, it's two and a half ways it really feels for us so long
08:42because usually we have to play five games between this.
08:45So we have now one, two, three, three more, one, two, three more.
08:48So normally we would have four and with today five but then it's so far away.
08:54And we're always talking about our standards and we always want to show our standard.
09:05Because then we know we will have a good performance
09:09and that means we will get enough points at the end of the season.
09:13That doesn't mean that you always win,
09:15but I also felt that we had a very good performance at Liverpool when we lost 3-1.
09:19We didn't have a good performance against Bournemouth but today it was a good performance.
09:23And I think for me it feels maybe since the Fiorentina home game
09:29that everybody now is, we know we are coming to the final stage of the season.
09:37This vibe started to create and maybe we are right now,
09:41the vibe is here around Selhurst, around the club, in the club, together with our fans.
09:46That everybody is enjoying the football, everybody is enjoying the team, everybody is enjoying the club, everybody is enjoying the
09:55fans.
09:57So everybody is enjoying himself and the whole situation where we are in.
10:02And this vibe is, for me, started from this Fiorentina game and then it's not a problem to be too
10:08warm down.
10:09It's not a problem for the fans, it's not a problem for the players.
10:11Because everybody has to believe we can strike back.
10:14And this is, I think, what the players, this group of players created again.
10:21I think it was a bit similar before the semi-final and final at Wembley.
10:26We played Villa and Man City but there was this, let's say, same word vibe, this belief,
10:31hey, we can get it done.
10:33And this, for me, it feels like it's back again and we will need this until the 27th of May.
10:42And then we will have two and a half great weeks together and this is what it's all about.
10:49Last one from Bobby.
10:50Hi Oliver, you targeted double figures for Ismail Assar at the start of the season.
10:55Today he became the first Crystal Palace player in 13 years to score 20 goals in a single season.
11:00Has how far into double figures he's gone this season taken you by surprise?
11:05Yes, I was asked about it before.
11:10I'm a bit surprised that it's now 20, but I'm pretty sure it will be more at the end of
11:14the season
11:15because he's just doing so well.
11:17It's a threat, permanent threat in every single game.
11:21Even he misses two, three chances every game.
11:24But he has this confidence, he knows exactly how we want to play,
11:29he knows exactly, not knowing he feels the spaces where the ball will arrive.
11:35He feels, he's always, it's great to watch him.
11:43And, yeah, hopefully, no, definitely, there will be a few goals added to the 20.
11:53In these couple of years of working with him, what do you think has improved most about his game?
12:00You know, we didn't find a special button nobody found before.
12:08We didn't make him quicker, we didn't make him jump higher.
12:12It's, I think, and this is what we try with every single player, and not just me, with my staff
12:19together,
12:20to get the best Ismail Azar, the best Tyrick Mitchell, the best J.D. Canvo, the best Dean Henderson that
12:29he can be.
12:30And this is what, from day number one, he came, wasn't allowed to play for Marseille,
12:34wasn't allowed to train with the team, six months without a game, no pre-season.
12:40But from day number one, we could see his attitude, we could see his talent.
12:44And then we integrated him in the way we are playing, he knows exactly what we are doing, in and
12:51out of possession.
12:53And, of course, and then we are encouraging every single player to play with his strengths.
12:58So, we don't, of course, I would like to see, but we don't ask Ismail to play six times one
13:03-touch football.
13:04But we ask him to make the runs, occupying certain spaces where maybe he creates space for other players.
13:13Let's say this duo, this tandem with Danny Munoz.
13:17And he understands it now, they're playing together for almost two years.
13:21Everybody, they know each other, he knows when the ball is on the left side, where he has to arrive,
13:27that he maybe gets the ball, for example, with his header.
13:29And all these situations is, let's say, working and training with him.
13:38But it's him, because he's listening, he's trying, and always trying to improve.
13:46And not being satisfied and saying, ah, it's fine, I have already scored 19 and it's a great season.
13:51No, it's not getting the 20, it's going to be the 21st, 22nd, and this ambition he has in his
13:58mind,
13:58and the skills he has in his body, so that's why it was not so difficult for us.
14:04Okay. Thank you.
14:05Thanks a lot everyone.
14:11See you in two days.
