00:04Thanks everyone. If you can raise your hand, I will come to you. At the end of our
00:07debriefing Palace, we are going to do a press conference for the Arsenal game on Tuesday night.
00:12That will be a barbershop until 6am on Monday.
00:15Stuart?
00:17Alex?
00:19Gary, a dramatic win today. What can you make of that one?
00:25Pleased. Winning away in the Premier League is tough.
00:27Against the teams playing in Europe this season, won in Europe last season.
00:32So really pleased to have two wins on the board after four matches is a big plus for us.
00:39Really pleased with the group, what they gave.
00:41Lots of emotion, lots of having to respond to setbacks, respond to positives.
00:48And it wasn't perfect, of course it wasn't perfect, but we won. We found a way to win.
00:53We deserve to win as well, which is important. And yeah, we happily take the three points and
00:59send the fans back up the A12 happy and get ready for a big week. Obviously, Arsenal and Everton
01:05come in next, so focus switches to them quickly. Can we recover the group for what is a big week
01:09for us?
01:10Being able to come from behind as well. That's something that the team struggled with the last
01:14Premier League season. Being able to do that and show the resilience must be really good for you.
01:18Yeah, it is. I think obviously I'd rather not. I thought we started the game okay. A couple of
01:24nervy bits from individuals, sort of some sloppy turnovers, but structural-wise the game looked as
01:30we expected. So it gave us a, the players took confidence from that, that everything was where
01:35it was supposed to be. And then we can see the goal not too dissimilar to the Liverpool one, where
01:40we get a bit out of shape. But then we score a fantastic equal, like an excellent goal. If you
01:48think of all the joy we had against Liverpool, getting Leif Davies in behind, similar today. But
01:52today he managed to produce a top quality cross. So we're a threat. You know, I think it's difficult to
01:58defend and to keep clean sheets in the Premier League and, you know, to try and hang on nil-nil
02:03and nick a goal. I think it's tough nowadays with the quality that the league has. The amount of time
02:08that the ball's in play with all the changes that the referees and the lawmakers have made to the
02:15balls in play much more than it is. You have to be able to attack and you have to be
02:19a threat. And I
02:20like my teams playing that way. Sometimes it means it's 3-2 instead of 1-0 or, as you saw,
02:265-2 at
02:28United. But we do look a threat and that does still give us a chance. Even if we concede one,
02:33you know there's a goal in us. And even at the end, once it goes 2-2, the lads just
02:38jumped straight
02:38back on, took the ball from kickoff, started probing again. So please, it takes a lot to win
02:43away in the Premier League. So I saw lots of good signs and also learned a lot. I think we
02:47have a
02:48lot that we need to get better at. And normally you have to take a defeat to learn that much.
02:53And I feel
02:54like we managed to learn a lot today while we still managed to take three points, which is a big
02:58positive for us.
03:02He's got a tight quad. No one thinks it's too bad, but with just quick checks after the game,
03:10it's hard for me to be too accurate with you. We don't see there being a problem for Everton.
03:17I'll probably rest him in the week, I would think. I would have probably rested him anyway,
03:21without his tight quad. But I thought he was excellent. I think he's... I'd hate to play against
03:25him. He must be tough to play against. He bashes people around. He runs in behind. He looks after
03:29the ball. He's a threat. So really pleased with how quickly he's taken to the level and the league.
03:36The coaching staff worked really hard with him on his technical stuff because it was a problem for him
03:40before. And he's getting better very, very quickly. So delighted with the progress he's made.
03:46I thought it was another excellent number nine performance from him today.
04:01Yeah, no, I think it forced Palace to come off the gas a bit. You know, when you're 2-1
04:06down at home,
04:07you have no choice but to go. So they were taking risk. They took a lot of risk, which means
04:12it should
04:13have been 3-4-1 during that moment. You know, after half-time where we're getting straight in on their
04:18goal
04:19with three or four times, which should be 3-1. And then obviously we don't take those opportunities.
04:24And they have good players. They can still take their moment. We got out of shape for the goal.
04:30They punished us for it. But now they have a choice to make, of course, whether they take the same
04:35amount of risk or whether they start to play in a more sort of sensible, structured way. And they did.
04:43But our lad's response to it was, you know, you could easily have gone 2-2's fine away from home.
04:49You know, forget the fact that Palace have gone down to 10 men. We've come away from home. Take a
04:53point.
04:54But they didn't. They started probing straight away. We put Abdul Atara on, took Jacob Greaves off.
04:59So, an extra attacker on the pitch. And it gave us our moment where Leif Davis arrives in the back
05:06of the goal, which we work on a lot. And Zian comes on. Sorry. Yeah, Zian. I pronounced it correctly.
05:11Zian comes on and gets a fantastic goal for us, a big goal for him. So, delighted that we have
05:16two
05:17free number nines in Chuba that can all score at the level. Chuba, Zian and Emi have now all scored
05:23Premier League goals this year, which is going to be big for us. 11 players is never going to be
05:27enough
05:28over the course of a season. So, we need everybody.
05:37I don't think we should get too carried away. Keen not to try and dampen everything down. But
05:43it's a long season. Our wins both could have gone either way. You know, the Premier League is a
05:51ruthless league. Against Sunderland, we were right in the game when we managed to take it. Against Crystal
05:56Palace the same. To be fair, we were competitive in the main against Manchester United and Liverpool.
06:04But we need to improve. We still need to improve, I think, to be successful this year. I think the
06:08level of performance today still needs to increase, to be honest. I think I learned a lot today.
06:13It's tough to learn. When you play against United and Liverpool, sometimes you have to give a little
06:18bit of slack for some errors or some things that happen because they have world-class players all
06:24over the place today. I thought it was a good day for us to learn against the side that will
06:27be
06:29middle-ish in the league, probably. It was a good, like, sort of base for us to figure out where
06:35we're
06:35going to be at. And there were some bits that I still think we need to do much better.
06:41Hi.
06:46Yes.
06:48I don't care where I win, as long as I win. It was nice to see some friendly faces. Obviously,
06:53my little boy's in the academy, isn't he? So, loads of staff here, security staff that I'm going
06:59to see tomorrow morning when I go and watch them play. They're all friendly, said hello.
07:05Obviously, some people here as well that I've worked with before, Matt Hobbs was at walls and things.
07:09So, lots of friendly faces, which is nice. Nice for them to see me working because normally they just see
07:14me chilled out. I wasn't chilled out today. They saw a different version of me. But no, I just,
07:20I love managing this football club. It's been the best warm-ups of my career, playing or managing.
07:28I've loved it every minute of it. It's a top club, top supporters, top values. The people supporting me
07:34behind the scenes are incredible. The playing groups just give everything. We'll lose some, we will,
07:39but we'll give everything when we lose. So, really enjoying it, really pleased.
07:43And we get ourselves ready for the best team in Europe, probably, or the best team in England,
07:47definitely, on Tuesday in the Cup.
08:03No, unfortunately, I'd love to have control over the whole game. But from the sideline,
08:07very, very difficult. They can't really hear much. If they can, they can hear the odd word.
08:12So, the game plan didn't change at all. The plan was still to be aggressive, maybe some tiredness,
08:18which is why we tried to change the two wide players. They had a big job today, the wide players,
08:22pressing up on the side of their three. So, we tried to change both to inject some energy.
08:29And yeah, Palace just, you know, they had a couple of moments in that little spell
08:35that we struggled with, and we need to make sure we get better at that, because we could easily have
08:39been punished more in that small spell. But I think if you look at the game as a whole,
08:43there's only really one team that deserved to win, and thankfully we did.
