00:00China has eliminated tariffs on the 53 African countries with which it maintains diplomatic
00:05relations.
00:06Our correspondent Mauro Ramos brings us more details in the matter.
00:10Earlier this month China extended its zero tariff policy to all 53 African countries
00:16it has diplomatic relations with.
00:19The decision in effect from May 1st through 2028 comes as the United States has been imposing
00:25tariffs on practically the entire African continent since April 2025.
00:31In an interview with Telesur, the General Secretary of the Revolutionary Organization for New Democracy
00:38in Niger, Mamani Sani Adamu, talks about what sets apart the continent's relationship with
00:44China from its relationship with hegemonic powers.
00:51China has this unique characteristic, it maintains trade relations without any political conditions.
01:03In other words, how do you manage your country?
01:09How do you deal with the funds that Chinese make available to you?
01:19That's your problem and the problem of your people that doesn't concern China.
01:31The General Secretary of the Socialist Movement of Ghana, Kwesi Pratt, states that imperialist
01:36forces are roaming the continent threatening governments with sanctions if they deepen relations
01:42with China.
01:43According to him, however, this power of intimidation is declining.
01:47The United States and its allies do not have the strength to impose their will on us again.
01:55The dollar is in retreat.
01:57The economies of the West are shutting down.
02:02China is on the rise.
02:04In the field of industry, in the field of scientific, the application of scientific knowledge and
02:10so on, China is on the rise.
02:11And we should not be afraid of these empty threats from imperialist powers and should go
02:18ahead and strengthen our relations with China because that is the way forward.
02:24That is the only way of fighting against poverty, of ensuring that we are no longer dominated
02:32for the exploitative benefits of the capitalist states from the West.
02:37Adamu further highlights the contrast between the U.S. and China on the continent.
02:43Citing the case of AGOA, the African Growth and Opportunity Act, an instrument by which Washington
02:48decides which countries can or cannot export preferentially to the U.S. market.
03:00China wants to send a strong signal on two levels.
03:07First, at a time when the United States is waking a trade war against the entire planet,
03:15China is saying, we don't charge any tariffs.
03:21That's quite different.
03:24Second, while the U.S. through AGOA select certain countries that can export there, China
03:35respond by showing that it is not a group of countries that is eligible, but rather the
03:43entire continent.
