00:06like it's going to largely be transfers and transfers from Iowa State.
00:12Now, Iowa State played a gritty, tough brand of football.
00:16Matt Campbell, Mount Union dude, really good coach, smart guy, gritty, tough brand of football.
00:24I think it's going to ultimately pay dividends for Penn State.
00:27The question you have to ask yourself is, will it pay dividends for Penn State this year?
00:32And I think that they're going to be better than people expect.
00:35Now, the problem is internally, what are those expectations?
00:38I think internally, when you've been knocking on the door, they'll give him a little leeway this year.
00:44But you've got to look like you're a 10-2 football team.
00:46Maybe you can go 9-3.
00:49Dare I say 8-4.
00:53As long as those losses you look really good in, you need to win a big game or two, and
00:58maybe you can have a bad loss.
01:00But Penn State, their schedule isn't crazy difficult.
01:04They've got Ohio State and Michigan off of there, but then you enter USC and Oregon and some of those,
01:08Washington, some of those schools.
01:10And then Indiana's a lot better now, obviously.
01:13And so what are those internal expectations?
01:15I think he probably has got to win at least eight games, probably nine.
01:19I don't think he makes the playoff this year.
01:22I think that they could be in the conversation and contention.
01:25What do I mean by that?
01:26When we're talking in mid-November, as there's three or four weeks left in the season, two or three weeks
01:31left in the season,
01:32Penn State still has a path to be able to make it.
01:36Now, maybe it's a difficult one.
01:37They need a team or two to lose.
01:38They need to win.
01:39They need to look better doing this.
01:41But nobody's just eliminated them in their mind.
01:43They need to have a path to be able to do that.
01:47I know Pat puts in the chat here, he thinks my boy Rocco Beck is a dog.
01:51And he is.
01:52But he was a dog in the Big 12.
01:55I think being a dog in the Big 10 is a lot different.
01:59You've got to be a lot tougher.
02:02You've got to be a lot more talented.
02:04And that's what he's going to be facing an uphill climb on.
02:09You start looking at Matt Campbell, the last coach who's hired in the hiring cycle,
02:13I know he was able to get a lot of his Iowa State guys.
02:16They're able to piece some stuff together in the portal.
02:17James Franklin raided some of their roster and raided a lot of their high school recruiting class.
02:22So he's going to have an uphill climb.
02:24And we don't have those high school recruits coming in that first year.
02:27Year two gets more difficult because usually you have established guys.
02:30You have some momentum.
02:31They're pretty good.
02:32They're going to be good sophomores.
02:34And some of them should be playing.
02:35And it'll look bright.
02:36I don't know that that'll necessarily be the case.
