00:00Don't get me wrong.
00:02I'm excited about the Sabres.
00:06Kind of an inside thing.
00:08Brad is back with us, and Brad and I were hanging out in bars 20 years ago,
00:13and there was one particular night where the bartender was talking about maybe an actress
00:19and said, and this is like a woman that everybody, like internationally famous,
00:25you know, beautiful woman, whoever it was.
00:29And the bartender said something like, I don't care what anybody says.
00:32She is attractive.
00:34And Brad and I were like, okay, nobody doesn't say that.
00:39Right, there's no dispute about this issue.
00:42And then I went to that draft weekend I go to every year in Philadelphia for baseball drafts,
00:48and there was a guy there, and I texted Brad right away because I couldn't believe it.
00:51There was a guy there who went, I don't care what anybody says.
00:55Whitney Houston had a great singing voice.
01:02I mean, listen, don't get me wrong.
01:05I am into the Sabres, but I am also plaintively like a puppy looking out at the birds flying around
01:14and just life going by the window.
01:17I am looking at this NFL schedule grid waiting for some sort of nuggets to start to fall
01:24and we can fill this puppy in.
01:27Sal Capaccio with us.
01:29Sal, I believe, is probably more well-adjusted than I am and does not have a browser with the schedule
01:35open.
01:36But, hey, I do.
01:38What can I say?
01:38I've got to be honest here.
01:40And I'm just waiting for anything, Sal.
01:42It's killing me.
01:44Yeah, we might get some leaks next week before it officially comes out on Thursday.
01:48That'll be interesting.
01:49I'll be on the cruise next week, and we're actually going to try and do like a little podcast
01:54with the fans on the cruise and the guys, Thurman and Steve, and kind of talk about that along with
01:59Sabres going on.
02:00So a lot going on, and I agree with you.
02:01It's kind of interesting.
02:03We haven't really heard anything as far as schedule.
02:05I don't think we know, like, other than, I guess, the opening, like, some of the international teams,
02:10but we don't know anything about the schedule, to be honest with you.
02:13It's just that game in Australia, and then week three will be Ravens-Cowboys in Brazil.
02:19Yes.
02:20That's it.
02:20Okay.
02:22Do you want to make a guess for the Bills week one before you go on a boat?
02:27Oof.
02:28I mean, it's a pure guess, right, just based on talking to Mike North, based on my own kind of
02:34just thoughts on it.
02:35I still think they open week two at home, week one on the road, you know, get the kinks out
02:41of the schedule.
02:42But, I mean, Mike kind of said, like, we don't need to do that.
02:45They could open week one at home, obviously, if everything goes well.
02:48And I'm going to say week two at home, and I'm going to say the Jets.
02:56Oof.
02:58The Jets.
02:59Only because I have this, like, weird feeling that they want to kind of replicate old Highmark with the Jets
03:06week,
03:06the first game ever and the last game ever.
03:08All right.
03:09Week one.
03:09Where are we going week one?
03:12Hmm.
03:13Week one.
03:15I don't think it's a week one primetime team, Sal.
03:18Allen is Allen.
03:19Maybe I'll be wrong.
03:20But I don't think the Bills have to be week one in primetime.
03:24Okay.
03:25Then let's say at Miami.
03:27Well.
03:27A very, very hot game.
03:29If they're playing the Jets in week two, that's not a night game either, I would think.
03:32No, that's right.
03:33Oh, no.
03:33I think it's a night game no matter what.
03:36Week two.
03:37Week two, you mean.
03:38Even if, like, the opener, the home opener you think will be a night game and you're saying they would
03:42do that for the Jets.
03:44It could be a Sunday.
03:46Okay.
03:46So, let's remember.
03:48I want to tell you what Mike North said again.
03:49He said, when we talked about this, the opponent doesn't matter to them, really.
03:55The buildup to the stadium is going to be the talk about the stadium.
03:58Once you kick off, it doesn't matter.
03:59You have the Bills on primetime.
04:00That's what matters.
04:03Well, you know, I'm going to have to process this.
04:05I'm glad the weekend is here.
04:08Thursday night, I could see that being.
04:11And they will play, Sal, I mean, just on this as well, they will play two preseason games in there.
04:17Yes.
04:17So, you would think by week one, there wouldn't be really any hesitation.
04:22Yeah, provided everything goes well in those preseason games.
04:24That's the thing.
04:25I think what you need is, the way I play this out, you're right, Mike, that would probably stand to
04:30reason.
04:31My thing is, okay, week one preseason is going to be at home because we know week two preseason is
04:35in Cleveland.
04:37We have three preseasons at home.
04:38Then you have a week off.
04:40The Bills may say, look, we've gone through two games.
04:42Here's what we need to do before we really light this thing up.
04:46And let's go make sure that this is good, this is good, this is good.
04:49Give us a couple weeks.
04:50I'm not sure.
04:50But, again, they don't have that option here in May when the schedule comes out.
04:53That's right.
04:54Yeah, they can't know how everything's going to go in those preseason test runs with maybe not capacity crowds,
05:00although maybe because it's the new stadium they will be full for the preseason games just because it's the first
05:05chance to really get in there.
05:06But either way, that's right.
05:07That's why the week buffer for week one makes so much sense because if there is a problem in week
05:14three of the preseason,
05:16you've got at least a couple of weeks to iron it out, whatever that is.
05:20You know, I'm talking, you know, from an infrastructure of the stadium standpoint, plumbing, electrics, whatever, Wi-Fi.
05:28I mean, who knows?
05:29You just, you know, you can test and test and test, but until you've got 50,000 or 60,000
05:34people in there,
05:35maybe you can't know if everything's going to work well.
05:38I agree, and they're going to have to kind of balance all that.
05:41But I feel like no matter which week it is, it feels more like a Monday night than a Sunday
05:48night.
05:48And the reason is because of what Mike described on the podcast, which is like the build-up to the
05:53stadium.
05:54Like if you, let's just say you do a Monday night game, ESPN can have Pat McAfee show there.
05:58They can, you know, bring on Bill's players and Brandon Bean.
06:01They can have NFL Live there.
06:03You can't really do that on a Sunday night, to be honest with you, because, yeah, you can have your
06:06crew there,
06:07but it's Sunday's about the Sunday games, and NBC's not going to be doing that all day.
06:12So I feel like it's some sort of build-up they'll do because he said it doesn't matter the opponent.
06:16And it's really everything's about the stadium until the game kicks off.
06:19I like that point.
06:20So probably our first road game is not a primetime game because the first home game will be because of
06:26this.
06:26Like that seems right.
06:28I think in a vacuum I would like the game in Las Vegas to be like a possible week one
06:33Monday night candidate,
06:34although they're not doing doubleheaders anymore.
06:37Right.
06:37So that's different now, too.
06:39Because we like those.
06:41They keep adding new days of the week, but one thing that I do like on an ever more cluttered
06:46football calendar
06:47is when they have a 7 and a 10 or a 7 and a 9.30.
06:50Nope.
06:51Take that away.
06:53Yeah, that's gone.
06:54Give me all the warm weather cities late in the year, though, guys.
06:56So I don't want Vegas.
06:57I don't want Miami.
06:58I don't want L.A.
06:59Give me those in November, December.
07:01Houston.
07:03Sal Capaccio with us.
07:04The Bills are holding rookie minicamp.
07:06How do they look, Sal?
07:07Are they going to be good?
07:08Are the rookies good?
07:09Are the Bills going to be good?
07:11Yeah.
07:12And just so you guys know, they actually have wrapped up early.
07:14They're stretching right now.
07:16If I see them start coming off the field, I'm going to let you know that I've got to go
07:19because we've got to do interviews.
07:20But they're still stretching right now.
07:21They just wrapped it up.
07:22And, yeah, you know what you'd think from a rookie camp, just guys, it looks like a regular practice, right?
07:28But you're getting guys you've never seen before and different numbers.
07:31And, okay, who's that guy?
07:32Where's this guy?
07:33Looking down on my card.
07:34Where's Jude Bowery?
07:34Who, by the way, where's his 311?
07:37Really well.
07:37That's one thing I noticed today.
07:38311 pounds.
07:39I'm like, that dude doesn't look 311 pounds.
07:41He's like a really fit-looking dude.
07:42You know what I mean?
07:43Like, I think 311, he's not looking like that.
07:45So that was interesting.
07:47You know, watching Skylar Bell and Jermaine Burton.
07:49And, you know, I'm not going to make any grand observations about anything,
07:53but just kind of seeing these guys out here like that.
07:55Jermaine Burton.
07:56Burton's interesting.
07:57Yeah.
07:57Mike hasn't been here at all to talk.
07:59Because when that happened, he was out, I think.
08:02Like, you know, maybe, I don't think you and I talked about this part of this sale,
08:07but I wonder how much, how emblematic Jermaine Burton, like the flyer on him,
08:14is of Sean McDermott not being here anymore.
08:16I know the Bills took shots on other receivers that were reclamation projects,
08:22but none of them had the allegations and the rap sheet that basically
08:28Burton, that cost Burton his position in Cincinnati after being a third-round pick
08:32only three years ago.
08:36Always was a talented guy.
08:38The only reason he lasted until the third round was questions,
08:40were questions about off the field and attendance and all that,
08:44and that came home to roost in Cincinnati.
08:46I feel like this is a player that maybe wouldn't even have gotten a shot
08:50with McDermott still here.
08:52I don't know if that's fair or not.
08:54Listen, I think there's credence to it.
08:55I think we went a little too far with that with the C.J. Gardner signing,
08:58but I do think that's a part of it.
09:00Like, it feels like there's some guys here now that are a little bit more,
09:03like, they're willing to take guys a little more edge
09:05and maybe those question marks, basically.
09:08You know, I think C.J. Gardner-Johnson represented that initially,
09:11and I think you could totally get there with a guy like Jermaine Burton.
09:13But let's remember, I mean, remember the wrestler they brought in a couple years ago,
09:16and I can't remember his name off the top of my head, Gable.
09:19I think it was Gable Steveson.
09:20And he had some issues in his past that had to be talked about.
09:24And, you know, that was Sean McDermott who was here.
09:27You know, I mean, there have been guys.
09:29It's not like they just bring everybody and brought in everybody before who were,
09:32you know, total choir boys or anything like that.
09:34But I do think there's a space to kind of talk about that
09:37and think about the new regime and how many guys are a little bit different
09:40that they're bringing in here to give a look at.
09:43There's a Julius here, Julius Pierce, offensive lineman, as a tryout player.
09:49Burton is also listed by the Bills as a tryout player.
09:52Red Ink versus Blue Ink.
09:53What's the technical difference?
09:56Tryout players are not under contract.
09:58Everybody else is.
09:58They are either actual signed undrafted free agents or draft picks.
10:02The red guys, the guys in red that are listed are on tryouts.
10:05They are not under contract.
10:06They're trying out for the team like Joe Andreessen did
10:09and then was offered a contract a few years ago.
10:11One of those guys is Jakob Johnson.
10:14Remember the fullback from New England a few years ago?
10:16Raiders.
10:17He's here on a tryout basis as well.
10:20And then Taequann Roberson, who was the quarterback at the University of Buffalo,
10:24is also here on a tryout basis.
10:26Good.
10:27Good to have two.
10:28Two quarterbacks.
10:29Brady Olsen is the other one.
10:30There's also – this is going to be a tough name for me if this guy makes it.
10:33I don't want to say I'm rooting against him because that wouldn't be nice.
10:36But there's a guy with the last name of Linthicum.
10:39And we had Linthicum in baseball, but this is like if you were to say it with a lisp,
10:44you'd have Linthicum.
10:45So we have Ryan Linthicum.
10:46I have another one, Mark.
10:47There's a Mark Langston.
10:49Speaking of baseball, there is a Mark Langston.
10:51Yeah, there's a Mark Langston.
10:52Mark Langston is a long snapper here.
10:53All right.
10:54I just heard he does color for the Angels, so he's bouncing back and forth.
10:59Mark Langston.
11:00Long snapper.
11:02I didn't realize he was already 65 years old or something as well,
11:05and I'm like, man, if I run out here and there's a 65-year-old tall lefty,
11:09he's a long snap, and that's going to be wild.
11:10What a story.
11:13Is there a rookie you're most interested in speaking to today, like hearing from?
11:19And we're going to do that right now, guys.
11:20They are walking off the field.
11:21I'm going to go do that.
11:22It's going to probably be Skylar Bell and TJ Parker that we're going to be hearing
11:25from I think most as far as the media and getting some scrums going here.
11:29So if you don't mind, I'm going to go do that now,
11:31and you guys will have that sound available to you.
11:33All right.
11:33Go for it, Sal.
11:34Have yourself a good time doing that,
11:36and enjoy the hockey game tonight and your trip next week.
11:38All right.
11:39There's Sal Capaccio on the Western Hotline.
11:41His appearance is...
11:42...
