00:0136 seats were contested in the Leeds City Council 2026 election,
00:06one in each of the 33 wards and three additional seats due to some councillors retiring.
00:13Let's now take a look at the results of the election.
00:16At time of recording, 32 of 33 had been confirmed.
00:20There were eight Labour holds and one Labour gain,
00:24seven Conservative holds, six Reform UK gains,
00:28six Green gains and one Green hold,
00:31two Liberal Democrat holds, one Independent hold and one SDP hold.
00:37The Deputy Leader of Leeds City Council, Labour's Jonathan Pryor,
00:42who also served as the council's Cabinet Member for Economy, Transport and Sustainable Development,
00:48lost his Headingley and Hyde Park seat to Nilesh Chohan from the Green Party.
00:53The Greens had 4,334 votes versus Labour's 1,278 votes.
01:00A particularly close result was in the Rounday Ward.
01:04Kathleen Johnson gave Labour their only gain in this election with 3,316 votes,
01:10while second-place Green Party candidate Brennick Stevenson had 3,242 votes,
01:17a difference of just 74.
01:19Only seven of the 33 wards had turnouts of more than 50%,
01:23with the lowest turnout being Headingley and Hyde Park,
01:26which had a 27.96% turnout.
