00:00Jeff Halfley, he was on Richard Sherman's podcast,
00:04The Richard Sherman Show.
00:06And this was his thoughts on the Dolphins draft
00:10and how it all unfolded.
00:11And if he was surprised about anybody they were able to get,
00:14here's what he had to say.
00:15You guys end up drafting 13 players, like you said.
00:19And I'm sure the draft boards kind of fluctuate throughout the day.
00:24There's obviously surprises here and there.
00:26But you guys were able to get Caden Proctor,
00:30Chris Johnson, Jacob Rodriguez, Caleb Douglas.
00:32Which one of these guys, out of the 13 guys,
00:35was probably the most surprising where you guys were like,
00:37man, we weren't expecting him to be there.
00:39And he was, and it worked out.
00:41Oh, probably if one guy I didn't think would be there
00:47when we took him was probably Rodriguez.
00:49I would have thought he would have been picked sooner.
00:54Just his college tape, I think the upside, I think the potential,
00:58I think the leadership capability, the playmaking ability,
01:01the production, I thought he would have been gone by that pick.
01:06So when he was still there, that one,
01:08we were all pretty excited about that pick.
01:10I mean, you could even say the same.
01:12I mean, I know for us, like Proctor,
01:16I mean, when he was still available for us to pick then,
01:19when we picked, because we moved back and got two extra picks,
01:22and he was going to be the guy we took at 11,
01:24but we got him at 12 with two extra picks on top of it,
01:26which I thought was an awesome job by John Eric.
01:29With his size and his potential and how young he is,
01:33he's a guy that we could be looking at down the road
01:36and people are going to say, wow, how'd that guy get drafted at 12?
01:39At a premium position with how young he is,
01:42how big he is, and how talented he is.
01:45That one, I think people might look back on it a few years
01:47and try to figure out what made him fall too.
01:50There you go, Jeff Halfley on the Richard Sherman show yesterday.
01:53We all think that of, I would imagine that all the guys,
01:58I don't understand how every GM thinks they got to steal a little draft.
02:02Everybody does.
02:03Right.
02:04So I just kind of.
02:05Everybody's like, yeah.
02:07They're all peacocking right now.
02:09Right.
02:09Nobody knows.
02:10Let's just let it play out.
02:12Nobody, no team is worse than the Dallas Cowboys peacocking
02:16after they made, they feel like they made a move.
02:18Every time.
02:18They got the cameras there.
02:20I liked, too, when they were doing that.
02:22Steven Jones was like, guys, quiet, quiet.
02:23I'm like, I didn't hear anybody talking.
02:25No, there was some disturbance in the background.
02:27Felt like he was doing that for the cam.
02:29Could be.
02:30You know, he's got that Jerry Jones in him.
02:31Is he going to be a showman?
02:33Who, Jerry?
02:34Steven Jones.
02:35Steven Jones.
02:36That's right, Steven.
02:36Tell him to be quiet.
02:38Trying to make this deal.
02:39While drinking Johnny Walker Blue.
02:41Yeah.
02:43We're all in.
02:45We're moving up.
02:47Move up, Steven.
02:49I love you, Dad.
02:50I love you, too, but no more feelings.
02:52It's football time.
02:54That is true.
02:54He was trying to hug Jerry, and Jerry looked like he didn't want to give him a hug.
02:57Nah, no way.
02:58No, he definitely didn't hug him enough growing up.
03:01Nah.
03:02Yeah, you can tell.
03:04I'm still longing for your hugs, Dad.
03:06It's like Vince and Shane McMahon.
03:08Oh, my God.
03:11Poor Shane has to jump off a cage just to get his father's approval.
03:14Just to get his dad's attention.
03:16Nearly cracked his neck.
03:19What can I do?
03:21I hate you.
03:22I hate Jimmy Johnson, too, Dad.
03:23Not like I did.
03:26I hate him more than I love you.
03:28What?
03:29Oh, my God.
03:35Well, I hate him more than I love you.
03:37What?
03:37What did you say to me?
03:38You don't love me.
03:39You don't love your father?
03:40Everything I've done for you, Steakman.
03:42I've left this team for you.
03:44I'm making Michael Irvin the GM now.
03:46Troy Eichmann's already left me.
03:48He's hanging out with John Eric Sullivan.
03:51Well, the problem is...
03:51Who has three first names?
03:53You don't want to give...
03:54He absolutely does not want any former players in his aura.
04:00No.
04:01Just for, like, appearances.
04:02Right.
04:02No, not even that.
04:03I mean, I don't ever see Michael Irving there.
04:06He does.
04:06Come on, man.
04:07They love Jerry.
04:09The way they back Jerry up because...
04:12But it's his show.
04:13Right.
04:13It's his show.
04:14That's all I'm saying.
04:15It's always going to be his show.
04:17He owns a damn team.
04:18Yeah.
04:20He's dying for this, man.
04:22I mean, we complain down here that Stephen Ross isn't more like Jerry Jones.
04:28What do you mean?
04:29He is exactly like Jerry Jones.
04:31No, he's not.
04:32He's become less like Jerry Jones.
04:34When he first got the gig, he tried.
04:36He tried in the beginning.
04:37He was more of a peacock early on.
04:39Time out.
04:40Huh.
04:41Other than those three championships they won in the 90s, what in the world have the Dallas
04:45Cowboys done?
04:46Nothing.
04:46Exactly.
04:47Absolutely nothing.
04:48On the field, nothing.
04:49But you know what they've done?
04:50They've brought in more revenue outside the game to the point that's why they're the most,
04:57the highest franchise.
04:59Right.
05:00Right.
05:00Highest price franchise in all the sports.
05:03So he's getting money outside, getting advertisement, getting sponsors, all of that.
05:09Same thing that Stephen Ross is doing down here.
05:11The big difference between Stephen Ross and Jerry Jones is Jerry Jones wants to be in football.
05:16Right.
05:16He doesn't.
05:16He doesn't hide that.
05:18Like, Stephen Ross wants to hire people and he maybe gets swayed by the wrong football
05:23people along the way, which he certainly has plenty of times.
05:26Like, Jerry Jones can't really put that on anybody.
05:28That's why it's always like he's got some coach we all think is a stool pigeon.
05:32You know, the guy's always just going to listen and listen to Jerry.
05:35He doesn't want one of those high profile guys other than when he had Parcells.
05:39But he trusted Parcells, but he's not one that's going to be intruding in everyday affairs.
05:47So.
05:48I tell you, Stephen, just tell your kids you don't love them.
05:50That's how you got to be a good football coach, a good football GM.
05:54That's how you got to do it?
05:55Yeah.
05:57Whatever picture they show of you when you were a kid, just disregard them.
06:01Disregard them.
06:02I didn't mean to be by that school.
06:04I didn't know what was going on.
06:06Simple football loving kid.
06:09Hard times back then, son.
06:10Hard times.
06:11Except for that pig, Jimmy Johnson.
06:14Backstabber.
06:15I won with Barry Switzer.
06:17I showed that anybody could coach this team.
06:20I even brought in my old friend.
06:22You saw him.
06:23They don't give Barry enough credit.
06:24And by Barry, I mean me.
06:26That's literally the truth.
06:30I sure as hell remember Barry Switzer.
06:34By college?
06:35I mean, he absolutely ruined what's-his-name's career.
06:41Was it Billy Sims?
06:44I mean, Billy did go to the NFL.
06:46I mean, for a second.
06:47You know what's crazy?
06:49I saw that story, right?
06:52And then realized, I played against him.
06:55It was the 80s, Lee-Ban.
06:56Huh?
06:57It was the 80s.
06:58Say it again?
06:59It was the 80s.
07:00Right?
07:00No.
07:01He played with the Rams in 90.
07:05Oh.
07:05So, what, like his final seasons?
07:07His final years?
07:08He played two-
07:09Two more years after-
07:10He played two more years after that.
07:11Yeah, in 92 he retired, right?
07:12Yeah.
07:13Okay.
07:14Yeah.
07:14But I was just like-
07:15Late 80s, early 90s?
07:16Yeah.
07:17Men were still men back then.
07:18They were gonna play till-
07:19Hey.
07:19They couldn't play no more.
07:21They needed that check.
07:22He'd be a tight end nowadays.
07:23Oh, he's that big?
07:24No, I'm saying back then he looked that big.
07:27But he could run.
07:30Dr. Toboggan says Stephen Ross's breath is less hot and boozy than Jerry's.
07:36It does look boozy.
07:37Oh, it looks like nothing but menthol and whiskey.
07:41He's still got a drink cart in his office, yeah?
07:43Drink cart?
07:44Yeah.
07:44You know, like one of those, like, old school-
07:46Oh, the silver?
07:48Yeah.
07:49Wheels?
07:50Can it wheel?
07:51Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
07:52He's definitely that.
07:53You know he's got a flask with his initials on.
07:55Oh, definitely.
07:56Double J?
07:56Definitely.
07:56He's got a flask with double J on it?
07:58Yeah, with the Cowboys?
07:59Yeah.
08:00Yeah.
08:00Yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:01A little sip of good luck, Stephen.
08:03Dad, I'm in the middle of a trade.
08:05You're gonna blow it.
08:08We didn't even need to move up.
08:09No one was coming up for Caleb.
08:11We didn't have to give two fists.
08:13He's trading up for a safety, idiot.
