The Washington Commanders GM Adam Peters has done a great job this offseason filling huge roster holes in free agency and the NFL Draft, but there's still one big need that should be addressed before the start of the NFL Season. Kevin Sheehan gives his take on what positions the Commanders can use an upgrade at this offseason.

00:00The, you know, first two to three waves of free agency are done.
00:04We are now looking into the rear view to see the 2026 draft.
00:08What else does Washington need to do between now training camp,
00:14now and opening day?
00:15The obvious answer is add another receiver.
00:19And Brandon Ayuk is certainly going to be a strong possibility
00:23when he gets released.
00:26It's not if, it's when.
00:28The best thing for our team would be if he got released today.
00:33We don't want him released on August 31st where he misses out
00:38on an entire offseason with the new offensive coordinator,
00:41with his quarterback, with other receivers,
00:44and now we're playing catch-up at the beginning of the season.
00:48I'm wondering if I can interest any of you in Stefan Diggs.
00:55I keep thinking about Stefan Diggs because Stefan Diggs for a year is usually
01:01outstanding, and that's when it's like, okay, we've had enough of him.
01:06Because he's high maintenance, no doubt.
01:09But for a year, when you've got a need, opposite Terry, he still can play.
01:18And the thing about Stefan Diggs is he is one badass competitive dude.
01:2685 catches last year in New England for 1,013 yards, four touchdowns.
01:32They just didn't want to pay him what they were going to have to pay him to keep him.
01:35Now, it could also be like small dose is really what Stefan Diggs is.
01:41He's been injured basically once in his career, and that was with Houston in 2024.
01:47I mean, with Jaden Daniels, couldn't you see Stefan Diggs catching 80-plus balls,
01:56Terry catching 70-plus balls, tight end catching 70-plus balls?
02:03Would you rather Diggs or Ayuk?
02:06I mean, Ayuk's future, if he is stable, which is a big unknown.
02:12There's so much we don't know.
02:14It's hard for me to answer.
02:16If you tell me I'm getting 2023 Brandon Ayuk, well, it's not even a conversation.
02:21He was an elite wide receiver in 2023.
02:24He literally, if you get that receiver, he's your number one.
02:28All due respect to Terry.
02:30Terry's older, too.
02:31If you get him, he's your one, Terry's your two, but they're both ones.
02:38But are you going to be getting that guy?
02:41There are physical questions.
02:43There are clearly psychological questions.
02:46I mean, I just know this.
02:48Diggs is a guy that on game day gives you everything
02:55and is really still very good and was last year.
03:03So, I'd be interested.
03:05If the Ayuk thing started to kind of fall apart,
03:08I would definitely be interested in Diggs for one year.
03:12You know, I'm looking at the available wide receivers.
03:16Like, Keenan Allen is still out there, hasn't re-signed with anybody.
03:19Jawan Jennings is the, you know, the guy that I think everybody thought would be signed somewhere.
03:25The reports have been since really week two of free agency that he's just asking for way too much
03:31and that more likely than not, he'll end up back in San Francisco.
03:35We'll see.
03:37Diggs is out there.
03:39Ayuk's obviously going to be out there.
03:42Tariq Hill's out there, but, you know, off of the injury.
03:45I don't know what his status is.
03:46Keenan Allen's out there.
03:47Debo still is unsigned.
03:50And Brandon Cooks is out there.
03:52That's interesting.
03:54I looked through the corners.
03:56It does appear that LeJaria Sneed, off of being on the pup list last year in Tennessee,
04:06is likely going to re-sign and head back to Kansas City.
04:10Stephon's brother, Trayvon Diggs, is out there.
04:12He was coached by Dan Quinn in Dallas.
04:16Hilton's out there.
04:17I've always kind of liked him.
04:18Rasul Douglas is out there.
04:21Anyway, what do you want?
04:23You know, here's one other one.
04:24Let me just throw one other one out there.
04:26And I know that they have added a lot of edges here.
04:31But Joey Bosa is still an elite pass rusher when healthy.
04:38Elite level pass rusher when healthy.
04:42And for a one-year deal, put Joey Bosa opposite O-Way, have Chason on the field, have Chennaul.
04:53There's something attractive about lining Joey Bosa up on third and seven or longer.
05:01But if I'm totally focused on, we need another wide receiver.
05:07We need a number two wide receiver.
05:09And that's Ayuk.
05:10That would obviously be Diggs.
05:13301-230-0980.
05:14Max, do you have an answer to this?
05:18I really want to start off by saying I like a lot of the additions on the defensive side of
05:23the football.
05:24Now, offense has left a little bit of something to kind of be desired for me.
05:28And, I mean, we've talked about it, especially at the receiver position.
05:33But, I don't know.
05:34I mean, we'll see.
05:36I'm not really...
05:38I'm just interested to see how we get into this season.
05:41I mean, a lot of the receiving core is really similar to 2023 or 2024 when we made the NFC
05:46Championship run.
05:47So, I just...
05:49I'm not as concerned, I think, as a lot of people out there.
05:52But, I mean, it's a wait-and-see game for me at this point.
05:57Let's start with Robert in D.C.
06:00Robert, go ahead.
06:03Robert dropped.
06:04Dave in Atlanta, go ahead.
06:09I'm with you 100% on Diggs.
06:12I think Diggs is the play as soon as you can get him.
06:17I'd get him.
06:18I'd get a corner.
06:19And, if Brandon Iyuk, if that situation clears up, why not add him, too?
06:26Because, here's the thing about our receiver situation and Iyuk.
06:30There's a chance that Iyuk is not right from the shoulders up, number one.
06:37But, number two, he may not really be in game form until midseason.
06:42So, add both.
06:46Yeah.
06:46I mean, I don't have a problem with it.
06:48I mean, you want to steer clear of crazy to begin with.
06:55And, you don't want double dose of crazy in what is a big year.
07:00But, you know, that – I mean, the idea of Iyuk and Diggs out there together with Terry
07:05just from a – if they're all right, that is – I mean, all of a sudden,
07:14it's one of the top ten receiving trios in the league, maybe higher than ten.
07:19So, yeah.
07:22The Diggs thing just – because I know – I mean, everybody that's ever been in Stefan Diggs' life locally,
07:30and many of them listen to the station and listen to sports talk radio,
07:33and we all kind of hear from these guys once in a while.
07:35Well, yes, he can be a pain in the ass, but nobody is readier on game day
07:42and gives you everything he has like he does.
07:46And the thing about Stefan Diggs that everybody's always said about him is,
07:49deep down, big-time heart means, well, just, you know, a little bit of wide receiver diva-ness.
07:57Not just a little bit, but a lot of it at times, especially if he's not getting the ball.
08:02But in this offense, he'd get the ball.
08:06Diggs on some level just because I think it's a crazy you know versus a crazy you don't know
08:12is attractive to me.
08:14Thanks, Dave.
08:14Let's go to Pauly.
08:15Pauly, what else do they need between now and opening day?
08:21Big guy.
08:22How you doing, man?
08:26Listen, I'm liking how they put this roster together.
08:30But before I get to what you're talking about,
08:32I think right now the biggest source by the center.
08:35And I'm not sure if that's a position that we can really be playing around with,
08:40with, you know, the defense in the front that we have in our own division.
08:46I mean, you know, the Eagles got two men, Carter and Jordan.
08:50You know, the Cowboys, they've been beating us up front for years, even with the Oddish.
08:55You know what I mean?
08:56The Giants got a good defense up front.
08:59So, I mean, I've been crying for the past two weeks about how we didn't have no draft picks
09:04because we gave them away for Tulsa.
09:07But we might have to make a move on the trade, you know, for a center.
09:11Yeah, but I don't know that there is anybody necessarily out there.
09:15There was the guy from Tennessee, Cushenberry,
09:19but apparently he's got some injury issues that people are concerned about.
09:24I'm not talking about signing nobody.
09:27I'm talking about we might have to trade.
09:28Well, who's available to trade for?
09:33I'm not sure.
09:34I mean, I don't get a check from Josh Harris to know that.
09:39But I'm saying they need to shake the trees.
09:41Well, I expect you to know.
09:42It's completely easy to call.
09:43You're getting time from me, so I expect you to know when you call in.
09:46Hey, look.
09:48Hey, listen.
09:49What?
09:49I'm just saying that's something they might have to look at is trading for a center.
09:54And I hate to say that because I don't want to give up no more capital for veterans.
09:58But I'm with you with Diggs.
10:00Not only am I with you with Diggs, give me both the Diggs brothers
10:04because we definitely need a veteran presence in the secondary.
10:08You know, with Amos and Mikey on the outside.
10:12I think we need a veteran guy out there.
10:14I was going to say sneeze, but you're saying he's going back to Kansas City.
10:17Okay.
10:17That's what it led.
10:18That's the reporting.
10:19Yeah.
10:20But you want Stephon to be happy and be on his best behavior?
10:25Bring his brother to the team, too.
10:27I think his brother still got something left in the tank also.
10:30So, I'm interested in both the Diggs brothers.
10:32And I'm like that last caller, man.
10:34You know, I'm not going to hold my roster hostage waiting on IU.
10:40I want IU if he's available.
10:42But right now, he's not available.
10:44So, we got to move forward like he's not available.
10:46And if he comes available, then go ahead and bring him in.
10:49Like I said, I wouldn't mind having both of them guys.
10:52But, yeah.
10:53Give me both the Diggs brothers, man.
10:55Bring him home.
10:56Let's make him run.
10:56Yeah, there's something about that that just is not a turnoff to me at all.
11:02Like, especially Stephon.
11:04Trayvon's such a big gambling corner but makes a lot of big plays.
11:11You know, the Durante Jones scheme, Pauly, you know this.
11:14You know, if it's the Brian Flores scheme, they don't necessarily
11:19and haven't necessarily needed high-end corners.
11:22They generate, you know, scare the quarterback pass rushes,
11:27confuse the quarterback pass rushes.
11:30That's what they want to do.
11:32Having a Diggs with a pass rush, a Trayvon Diggs, seems to me like, you know,
11:37you're going to get at least one pick six, which we haven't seen since who?
11:42Who was the last pick six for this team?
11:46And that's when he was at his best, man.
11:48When he had Michael Parsons out there in the Cowboys
11:51and he was bringing all that pressure, man.
11:53And I'm going to say this about Stephon Diggs.
11:54I'm going to say this about Stephon Diggs, right?
11:58He had a good year last year.
12:00You know, 85 catches, like you said, over 1,000 yards.
12:04And that was year one back from his knee injury.
12:07This is year two.
12:08Right.
12:08So he should get some of that explosives back, too.
12:12You know, that he probably was 100%.
12:15But, you know, they always say the second year is when a player usually gets back
12:19to their normal football stuff after that knee injury.
12:23So, yeah, I'm all in for both the Diggs brothers, man.
12:26I'll take it off the air, man.
12:27I'll take it off the air.
12:28I'm going back.
12:29Didn't they have a pick six in that Sam Howell started game at the end of 22?
12:34Somebody had a pick six in that game.
12:36Kendall Fuller, pick six.
12:38That might be the last pick six we had.
12:422022.
12:43If you're on hold, stay there.
12:44More calls.
12:45What's next?
12:46What do they still need to do now that we've seen the first three waves of free agency
12:53and the draft pass us by?
12:56They've done a lot.
12:57They've added a lot of new pieces.
12:58What else is left?
13:00What do you want them to still do?
13:01Do they still need you?
13:01Do they still need them to do?
13:01Do you like the kind of thing?
