00:00John Eric Sullivan was on the Joe Rose show with the big dog
00:05and had some things to say about the draft class
00:08and all the feelings, and a lot of it was great.
00:11But he actually did give a very specific nugget on the Dolphins
00:16as Joe was able to get out of them.
00:18Basically, the Dolphins starting offensive line this year.
00:20And what they're going to do with Caden Proctor,
00:22here was John Eric Sullivan this morning.
00:25He'll do a little bit of both just because we always like to cross-train,
00:28whether you're talking about a nickel safety or a guard tackle
00:31or a guard center.
00:32We like to cross-train guys, so they line up in different spots.
00:36But I think probably day one, I think he's probably lining up at left guard.
00:42You know what I mean?
00:43And we're going to kind of fortify, and we'll move Jonah to the right side,
00:46and off we go.
00:48Wow.
00:50But, you know, it's moving pieces all the time,
00:54and really we just want to play with a couple different things
00:56to get the best five out there.
00:58But I think if you, you know, if you pressed me on,
01:00that's probably what it looks like day one,
01:02and then we'll see where we go from there.
01:03Pressed him on.
01:04It's like Joe was just a delightful question from Joe Rose.
01:07He acted like the light was shined.
01:08He was so excited to tell you that he's going to put Caden Proctor
01:11on the same side as Patrick Paul with those two meetings.
01:15It's pretty amazing,
01:17but I suggested that when Patrick Paul came in.
01:21Yeah.
01:22They wouldn't, yeah, and they didn't put him in.
01:24It's very common, and that's why I said that,
01:27because if people don't remember,
01:31Jonathan Ogden played left guard his first year.
01:34Yep.
01:35So did Tunsil.
01:36Tunsil had played in Albert.
01:38Not as big, but still, you know.
01:40But the most important thing is to get your five best linemen out there.
01:48Okay, and one of the problems I had last year is,
01:52are you telling me Patrick Paul wasn't one of your best five linemen?
01:55A couple years ago?
01:57Yeah, probably.
01:58Right.
01:59But everybody looked down because that's the way people do it.
02:02Everybody looked down on Patrick Paul because they didn't do that.
02:06Well, I think your point, though,
02:08was sound yesterday where it's an athleticism question, right?
02:10Like, he's a moose, and he has one position,
02:13and they wanted to make sure, like, his –
02:15like, maybe he wasn't set for that.
02:16Like, nobody questions that with Caden Proctor.
02:19He's got the quickness.
02:20They're using him as a – you know,
02:22they'll use him in offensive packages.
02:24Like, they just feel – that was the big thing.
02:26He's like, he could play literally anywhere except center.
02:28Like, and he probably could play center,
02:29but no 6'8 person in the center.
02:31And that's one of the things I've also said to you,
02:33that that is a normal thing that guys usually –
02:42and I've said this.
02:43Usually, you're – if you have a guard, two guards,
02:47you might have three or four guards on your roster with a center.
02:53But two of those guards can play center.
02:55And you kind of do your whole offensive line like that.
02:59One, so you don't have to carry 20 linemen.
03:02And you can spend time, you know, getting – filling other needs.
03:08And the other thing is in the case of injuries.
03:11Like, in the case of injuries,
03:13what if you have to move your right tackle in
03:14because one guy only plays right tackle?
03:17Or the worst thing you could do for offensive line is say,
03:22okay, this guy plays multiple positions.
03:24We're going to move him on the opposite side.
03:26That's really a big deal.
03:28Right.
03:29And that's what they ended up doing for the last couple years
03:32to the point where, like, guys didn't look comfortable.
03:36Well, and they also – yeah.
03:37I mean, putting Jonah on the left side.
03:39Like, again, in theory, you're like,
03:41oh, that's going to be our left side for years to come.
03:43No.
03:43I never thought that.
03:44I never thought that.
03:45I know that's not what you thought,
03:47but that was the Greer front office thinking.
03:50That's why they did it.
03:51Right.
03:52Well, and I told you that it's really, really, really hard
03:59if you've never played on the left side
04:01and you've only played on the right side to be on the left side.
04:05It's like if I put a pin in your hand and you're right-handed
04:09and I say from now until the end of this year,
04:12you have to write left-handed.
04:14That's how crazy that is.
04:17And I know it doesn't seem that difficult,
04:21but imagine you spending your whole life even when it comes to, like,
04:26getting in the stands, putting your right hand down
04:29because you're on the right side.
04:31And then you move to the left and you've got to put your left hand down.
04:34So, I mean, your footwork, everything's just opposite.
04:37Yeah, and I imagine that's probably something they probably talked to Jonah
04:41when they got here.
04:41Like, hey, how much of a challenge was it?
04:43How much would you like the idea of going back to the right side
04:45and, like, the comfort of that?
04:47And so that does feel like it's going to just put everybody in a better spot.
04:52Obviously, we need to see if King Doctor can play football,
04:54but he's obviously a behemoth.
04:56He is a moose.
04:57Right.
04:58And that is, I don't know, like, I'd have to,
05:02like, that's a crystal ball-sized line right there, dude, up front.
05:05To have those two guys, 6'7", 6'7", 3', who knows what the hell they weigh on the left
05:14side.
05:15Oh, my God.
05:16That is ridiculous.
05:18Right.
05:18I would say one of the only questions that I may, that I would have,
05:27and here's how it becomes a little bit, you know, I'm wondering how this is going to work,
05:37is that when you play with a running back that is quick and fast
05:45and gets through holes and you pull offensive linemen,
05:51if you're that big, and I know Proctor is very athletic,
05:56is he going to be able to get out front, right?
05:59Is he going to be in shape enough to be able to do some pulling?
06:03Because we know he can run.
06:04And so how is that offensive line going to be able to do that?
06:09Otherwise, here's what you're going to face.
06:12If you can't move like that and accommodate your running back,
06:16who is excellent at running, you know, on the edge,
06:21then that means that now when you play a team
06:24and they know that you don't have any athleticism up front,
06:27they're just going to stuff eight, nine guys in the box.
06:32Yeah, but I think, I do think it's a pretty athletic line.
06:35Like, I guess we'll have to see with Proctor, but, I mean, Austin Jackson,
06:38that's kind of his bag.
06:39That's definitely a Brewer's bag.
06:40Right, that's what I'm just saying.
06:43Like, being that big, that's one of the things that come into play,
06:48is that are we still going to be able to be athletic enough to accommodate,
06:54one, you're probably going to have to pull some guards out in front of your quarterback
06:59when you roll your quarterback out because he's athletic.
07:02Right.
07:02You have a running back who is excellent at running on the edge, right?
07:09And so, tying it all together.
07:13Is Ogden the biggest guy you ran behind?
07:15No.
07:17Zeus.
07:17Who's the biggest guy you ran behind?
07:18Orlando Brown.
07:20Zeus.
07:21That's his name.
07:22I know.
07:23It's ridiculous.
07:24Go look at a picture of him.
07:26You know what he's famous for?
07:32Remember, he had the bingo in his eye, didn't he?
07:35The official threw the beanbag in his eye and he went and pushed the official.
07:40Didn't that ruin his career?
07:41Yeah.
07:42He went and pushed the official and got suspended.
07:45So, he lost his career and got suspended.
07:48That's crazy.
07:49Right.
07:50But that, now, look, that dude was a monster.
07:55I played with Corey Stringer.
07:586'8", 350.
08:00Corey Stringer was a big boy.
08:02This is the wrong Orlando Brown.
08:04That's his son.
08:05That's his son.
08:076'7", 360.
08:09Yes.
08:11Yes.
08:11Oh, God.
08:13And, so, so, so, yeah, it, like.
08:18Like, it's great to have all of those, you know, to have that massive physical line.
08:26Did you have Matt McKinney?
08:27Did you get him as a rookie or you guys were two years apart?
08:31No, I was gone.
08:31I was gone.
08:31I was gone.
08:32That's because you weren't on that boat.
08:34Yeah, I wasn't on that boat.
08:35Everybody think I was on that boat.
08:36Leroy was not.
08:37Leroy didn't do boats.
08:39So, that would have never been me, even if I was there.
08:43But, yeah, you have, and the most incredible thing, and I can't explain this.
08:50This is even from me, who was pretty athletic, right?
08:54You haven't seen anything until you've seen an offensive and defensive line have a dunk contest.
09:01That's athletic.
09:02Jeez.
09:03And, like, you just sit back, and you just, you're amazed at how guys, you know, we had a guy,
09:11Jerry Ball, who was built like a donut, right?
09:14And he would go and stand outside and stand in front and do bump and run with the wire receivers,
09:21and they couldn't get off the line of scrimmage.
09:23Like, just seeing stuff like that.
09:27So, I know why they drafted Caden.
09:31I really do understand it, because contrary to popular belief, like, it is easier to find a wide receiver or
09:41a DB that runs a 4-3 than it is to find an offensive lineman that can run like him.
09:46Yeah.
09:47No.
09:48I mean, like, it would have been super surprising if they would have taken a wide receiver at 11.
09:53The 30 spot, like, you saw the guys who went, like, Ken Cepcion going to the Browns.
09:58I think that was going to get, but he went before that.
10:00Right.
10:01So, like, I don't think that their draft was surprising at all, especially with the size the two guys have
10:08height-wise for Johnson more so than weight.
10:11But everybody's, you know, once McCoy went down, probably got what was thought of as the second-best corner in
10:17the draft.
10:19And we'll see what ends up happening.
10:21I think, aren't the Browns doing that with Fano?
10:23Aren't they flipping him?
10:23Because he played right most, and they're putting him on the left side to start the year.
10:27Yeah, but that's more of a young player thing, and you're just feeling a need.
10:34When you see how they play, when guys' contracts come up, you know, things like that, they would much rather
10:43have not an offensive lineman that you got to pay $20 million because his contract's up.
10:48They'd much rather have a young guy to buy you some time that you don't have to pay for another
10:55two or three years.
10:56So, say if their right tackle is playing well, and it's time to play him, like, kind of like a,
11:05was it Robert Hunt that went and got all that money?
11:08Oh, my God.
11:09No, I mean, listen, linemen are getting paid, dude.
11:11I mean, linemen, everybody's looking for him.
11:13That's the thing.
11:14Everybody's looking for him, and everybody's looking at the end of the year.
11:17Look at the Patriots.
11:17Like, you know, horniness aside, you looked at the end of that year, and, you know, Campbell got beat up
11:23hurt, but that entire line just got demolished.
11:26By Seattle, you know, and every time you looked at Seattle, you looked at, I was like, that looks, they
11:31looked like the most intimidating line in the league this year.
11:34Just, just not, I mean, obviously there's more intimidating players like Miles Garrett or Max Crosby, but just across, it
11:42was so scary to watch what they were able to do last year.
11:46So, yeah, you need to be able to protect, and, and look, he also didn't make it a secret.
11:51Like, they want Malik Willis to work out.
11:53That's their guy, and they're hopeful that these next couple of years they can make this work out with him,
11:59and you want to give him a chance.
12:01If you did go into the year with the question mark of Jonas of Ayanaya and having Salyer kind of
12:07try and save his career here, you could probably manage.
12:10Like, they managed last year.
12:12I think that's, if you looked at last year's line, it wasn't the most disastrous line we've seen in a
12:16long time.
12:17They managed, but they don't want it to be a managed thing.
12:20They want it to be a strength, and that's where, that's where they're at with it right now.
12:24So, but in very, I'm glad that we got it all settled.
12:28It's probably what we were all thinking, but it's glad that now he kind of has it out there of,
12:32like, this is, this is what their thought process is going forward.
12:35It's going to be Paul.
12:36It's going to be, it's going to be Proctor, Brewer, Savat Anaya, and then hopefully Austin Jackson has a healthy
12:42season.
12:43Right, and that's where, you know, that's where it ends up being.
12:49And then, depending on health or, you know, depending on where you are as far as needs on the team,
12:58then some guys might be out and you can move guys, you know, in their more natural position, which is
13:04what happened with Jonah, which I always thought was going to happen.
13:09Like, I've seen it far too many times, right?
13:13Season's a hard move, yeah.
13:14I've seen guards that were backup centers that, you know, either became the starting center when it was time to
13:23pay the center or when a guard was up, then they moved the guard.
13:27Like, but once you get that five, once you get that five that you're comfortable with and they start playing
13:39well, now you try, if you can get three or four years out of the same five guys in your
13:45office, if you go look at the teams that have had the most success offensively running the football, you don't
13:53have to go to the skill positions.
13:54You don't have to go to the quarterback, look at the consistency of the offensive line.
14:00Like, one of the things we talk about, remember the Cowboys and their heyday.
14:05Sure.
14:06Oh, you talk about that offensive line.
14:08No, look, if you, if this offensive line can be what they hope it to be, I mean, I mean,
14:14A-chan's going to have another big season and that's something that they can rely on.
14:18For sure.
14:19Oh, my God.
14:21Proctor's natural position is two cars back and a drive-thru line.
14:29That's evil, Nick, but funny.
14:32Very funny.
14:33He says he goes to Hot Works.
14:34Hey, we got to give him a plus one.
14:37It has to be funny.
14:38I don't want to.
14:39Yeah, I know.
14:40We don't want to, but it's funny.
14:42Not nice.
14:43You know, he's trying.
14:47And to respond to Jay, so funny how he said we're going to draft a quarterback every year.
14:56This is sink or swim.
14:57No, not because you didn't draft a quarterback, but I would say you would like to draft a quarterback every
15:04year, but if it doesn't present itself, you can get by not doing it a year.
15:10Have Quinn Ewers.
15:11Right.
15:12Quinn Ewers in a pinch has been in the offense and he's going to have another year in his belt
15:17and he costs peanuts.
15:18Like, why?
15:18Right.
15:19You know?
15:20You got enough quarterbacks in the room.
15:22If anybody drafts a quarterback, if anybody does a quarterback every year, it's Cleveland.
15:26Sometimes two quarterbacks a year.
15:29I mean, the only time that's really worked out is in Washington, right?
15:34That did work out in Washington.
15:35Yeah, but they did that the same year.
15:37They didn't even do that.
15:38Right, but that's what I'm saying.
15:39So did Cleveland.
15:40Yeah.
15:44Nobody likes Dylan Gabriel, huh?
15:46He's just got no swag.
15:47I don't know if...
15:49No, it's a weird thing because if you look at the numbers, Dylan Gabriel and Shaduah Sanders were about even.
16:02It's something about the personalities that we are drawn towards Shaduah.
16:10He's a very...
16:11Yeah, there's Dylan Gabriel.
16:13I interviewed him in Indian Atlas.
16:14Not a lot of charisma.
16:15Right.
16:16Very low-key, chill dude.
16:19Very Kal-El-ware-esque.
16:21You know, just kind of goes with the flow.
16:23And Shaduah Sanders...
16:25I mean, Deion Sanders is his father.
16:26Like, he's got the...
16:27He's got...
16:27He oozes charisma.
16:29Wait.
16:30Raven signed Pavia.
16:31No, they didn't.
16:33They did.
16:33But they invited him to...
16:36No, no, no.
16:37He got signed yesterday as an undrafted.
16:38I don't know what his guarantees are, but apparently he got a multiple-year undrafted QB deal.
16:44So, no.
16:45He is actually signed.
16:46They were going to invite him...
16:47To minicamp.
16:48There was a really funny tweet.
16:50A really...
16:50Dude, you know what's crazy?
16:51Did you see this tweet, Brittany?
16:52You know what's crazy?
16:54No, I didn't.
16:55They...
16:56You have, like, during the summer, you have a lot of guys out there, like, working out
17:02and going through the process, and you never see them.
17:06Like, they have guys in and out all the time.
17:12Oh, man.
17:13This was a tweet I saw from Karen Howell.
17:15This is 2.4 million views on X.
17:18Rude of the Ravens to invite Diego Pavia to their minicamp instead of their regular-sized camp.
17:31Hey!
17:34Hey, you guys can say what you want about me short-shaming people.
17:38That is ridiculous.
17:44Oh, man.
17:46And, well, I like Diego Pavia.
17:48Gave him to Dirty Boxing in Nashville.
17:51Hopefully, hopefully it works out.
17:52And you saw firsthand that he was tiny.
17:55I did.
17:55I did.
17:56He also had to leave.
17:57He had to leave by, like, the main event because, you know, he had games to play.
18:00You know what's crazy is that we have, in the last maybe five years, we have had a trend
18:08where size of a quarterback doesn't matter.
18:13And we're going to start getting back away from that because if you're under 6'1", you better
18:23be super athletic and be able to make plays down the field or with your feet.
18:30Otherwise, like, think about this.
18:33You want a 5'10", 6-foot quarterback behind this offensive line?
18:41It's very big.
18:43I mean, that was the fear with Tua because he said that he couldn't see.
18:47Malik Willis is not tall.
18:49Yeah, but he can recreate space with his legs.
18:52Yeah, and he's got a chooch, so a real piss whistle on him.
18:59Yeah.
19:01Hopefully, it works.
19:02Please work.
19:03Hopefully, it works.
19:03Hopefully, it works.
19:05Please don't lose.
19:07Take a break.
19:08Give it some time.
19:09I mean, like.
19:11Yeah, I'm not expecting an awesome year, but I do think, but I do want to see some awesome
19:15growth.
19:15I want to see growth, and I want to see, like I said, I would love to see them get
19:19some good
19:19wins this year.
19:20Like, if they can hang with some teams, if they could beat, you know, get a couple of
19:24wins that you're like, oh, that was impressive.
19:26You know, that's what I'm looking for this year.
19:28That's right.
19:29Look at these weapons.
19:30You know, they got nobody, dude.
19:31Unless Chris Bell, which it sounded, listening to Sully this morning, it sounds like Chris
19:36Bell is going to be shelved for the year.
19:38Unless, like, he's way ahead of schedule.
19:40Right.
19:41But, you know, no need.
19:42See, no need to beat science this year, Chris Bell.
19:44You go at science's pace.
19:47If you need to kick back and let science, you know, take it.
19:49No problem.
19:50No problem.
19:51No rush.
19:52No rush to beat science.
