00:30It's a late night. We hope you're doing well.
00:32And now, if you don't mind, we are going to get to the news.
00:35According to a new report,
00:36the deal that President Trump negotiated yesterday with NATO
00:39involves Denmark giving the U.S. sovereignty
00:42over small pockets of Greenland to build military bases.
00:46So basically, the deal we already had.
00:48I'm so glad this guy isn't my real estate broker.
00:52Hey, so I think I can get you the house for the asking price.
00:58While speaking to business leaders yesterday in Davos,
01:01President Trump said that foreign nations
01:03were taking advantage of the U.S. before he imposed tariffs
01:06and added, quote,
01:07Our country was being plucked like you pluck a chicken.
01:10Thanks for the analogy, Farmer Brown.
01:13The only chicken you've plucked is a McNugget from a box of 20.
01:18I hope I pluck a good one.
01:21While speaking at the World Economic Forum yesterday,
01:24President Trump said that only stupid people buy windmills.
01:27You said that in front of the Netherlands?
01:31Did you also say tulips are just gay weeds?
01:36While talking to business leaders yesterday in Davos,
01:39President Trump spoke about his cabinet and said, quote,
01:42I like bringing successful people in.
01:44Successful in what?
01:45Flip cup?
01:47Pete Hex's last big success was passing a breathalyzer.
01:52During a signing ceremony today for his Gaza Board of Peace,
01:56President Trump said, quote,
01:57We have peace in the Middle East.
01:59No one thought that was possible.
02:00Yeah, or even actually happening.
02:04President Trump is set to travel next week to Iowa
02:07to help campaign for the midterm elections.
02:09Yes, please do that.
02:10Please tell everybody which candidates you like.
02:12I think that would really help.
02:16A treasure hunter recently found a class ring
02:19on a New Jersey beach from 1966
02:21that belonged to a Nebraska woman.
02:23Cool.
02:24Normally, the only way to find a class ring on a Jersey beach
02:27is to go up to any guy.
02:32A 15-year-old dog.
02:34A 15-year-old dog was recently returned to his family
02:37more than 10 years after he went missing.
02:39So good news, kids.
02:40And then almost immediately, terrible news, kids.
02:52The burger chain Five Guys is set to open
02:54a new 10,000-square-foot restaurant
02:56on the Las Vegas Strip.
02:58Because if you like Five Guys, you also like gambling.
03:03According to a new report,
03:04the U.S. murder rate has fallen to its lowest level since 1900.
03:07Yeah, well, it's pretty hard to get murdered
03:09if you never go outside.
03:13And finally, according to the latest numbers,
03:15the Eagles album, their greatest hits, 1971 and 1975,
03:19is the best-selling album of all time,
03:21largely because the people who love that album
03:23keep forgetting they already bought it.
03:26And that was a monologue!
03:28Everybody, everybody.
03:30We've got a great show every night.
03:32He's a talented actor and podcaster.
03:34You know him from Will & Grace
03:36and the SmartList podcast.
03:38He's starring in The Unknown with performances
03:40beginning January 31st at Studio Seaview.
03:43Here in New York City,
03:44Sean Hayes is back on the show, everybody.
03:48And she's the host of NBC's Football Night in America
03:52and the lead studio host for the NFL, NBA,
03:55and WNBA on NBC Sports next month.
03:57You can see her as part of NBC Sports'
04:00legendary February featuring the 2026 Winter Olympics,
04:04Super Bowl 60, and NBA All-Star Weekend.
04:07Maria Taylor will also be joining us, everybody.
04:10But before we get to all that...
04:13Donald Trump announced that he has made a deal with NATO
04:17to settle a dispute he started over Greenland,
04:19which only he wants,
04:20but he can't say the specifics of the deal
04:22or how long it lasts or even if there is a deal.
04:25For more on this, it's time for A Closer Look.
04:30You guys remember the whole Epstein files thing?
04:33You know the trove of secret documents
04:34detailing the various crimes
04:36of the world's most notorious sex trafficker.
04:38You know the files pretty much everyone
04:39across the political spectrum
04:40has been demanding to see
04:42in which the administration is required
04:43by law to release.
04:45Well, Donald Trump has found something people hate
04:47even more than his handling of those files,
04:51his quest to take over Greenland.
04:54Trump's net approval rating on the Epstein files.
04:56Look at that.
04:56Just absolutely awful.
04:5838 points below water.
05:00But any try to buy Greenland
05:02is somehow even more unpopular.
05:04Look at this.
05:05It's 40 points below water.
05:07There is barely an issue out there
05:09that's worse for Donald Trump than the Epstein files,
05:11but any attempts to buy Greenland
05:14or use military force on Greenland,
05:15which even polls worse than this,
05:17is one of them.
05:18It is arguably the most unpopular thing
05:22that Donald Trump can try to do
05:23is mess with Greenland.
05:25So Greenland is polling worse than the Epstein files.
05:28You got it.
05:29Okay.
05:29So I think I know what happened here.
05:31Trump thought people wanted to know more
05:32about Epstein Island,
05:34so he tried to distract them
05:35with a bigger island.
05:38You're thinking too small.
05:39Go for the big ones, America.
05:40Take your pick.
05:41You could have Greenland, Fiji, Madagascar.
05:44A lot of bad stuff happening on Madagascar.
05:47A lot of shady stuff.
05:49King Julian, when he said,
05:50I like to move it, move it,
05:51he was talking about cocaine.
05:53A lot of people are saying that more and more.
05:57Anyway, the point is,
05:58Donald Trump found an issue people hate even more
06:01than his Epstein files cover up,
06:02but don't worry.
06:03He wants you to know
06:04that the dispute he started
06:06over a thing no one asked for
06:08has now been resolved, possibly,
06:10or maybe not.
06:11The White House says that negotiators
06:13are working out the details
06:14on a framework of a deal
06:15that would satisfy
06:16President Trump's demands on Greenland.
06:18However, the president stopped short
06:20of providing any details,
06:22and now we're hearing
06:23some conflicting information.
06:24Maybe there is not a deal.
06:26There may not be a deal
06:27because simply not everyone
06:29is on the same page this morning.
06:31Denmark's prime minister says
06:32her country can't negotiate
06:34on its sovereignty.
06:36Now, the details of that deal
06:37still are known at this hour.
06:39It's unclear whether it would mean
06:41the U.S. will take control
06:42of the Danish territory or not.
06:44The deal that people jumped at,
06:48really fantastic for the USA,
06:50gets everything we wanted.
06:52We, we wanted nothing.
06:55We were perfectly happy
06:56hearing about Greenland
06:57once every couple of years
06:59on Nat Geo and nowhere else.
07:02Literally, no one was talking
07:04about Greenland
07:04until you started talking
07:05about Greenland,
07:06and then we all started worrying
07:07that you were going to nuke Greenland,
07:09which made every news story terrifying
07:11thanks to the name
07:12of Greenland's capital.
07:13Nuke Greenland.
07:15Nuke Greenland.
07:16Nuke Greenland.
07:17Nuke Greenland.
07:18Nuke Greenland.
07:20What did he do?
07:27Greenland should tell everyone
07:28nuke is a Greenlandic word
07:30that means,
07:31get your hands off us.
07:33Can you at least tell us
07:35the terms of this deal
07:36you made
07:37that no one asked for?
07:38Does it still include
07:39the United States
07:40having ownership of Greenland
07:41like you've said you wanted?
07:43Uh...
07:45It's a long-term deal.
07:48It's the ultimate long-term deal.
07:51So, no.
07:53You never want the answer
07:55to start with,
07:56um...
08:00You spent weeks insisting
08:02the U.S. had to have Greenland,
08:04and now the deal you're celebrating
08:05doesn't even get us Greenland.
08:07Trump negotiates with other countries
08:08the way I negotiate with my kids.
08:10No more Paw Patrol.
08:11It's bedtime.
08:12All right, fine.
08:13One more episode.
08:14All right, fine.
08:15Two more episodes.
08:16All right, here's how it's going.
08:17All right, fine.
08:18I'm going to go to bed.
08:19Watch as many as you want.
08:20There's ice cream in the freezer.
08:21That's your dinner.
08:22Go nuts.
08:22Don't tell mom about this.
08:23Or do.
08:24I don't care.
08:27Also, I have to go back to this.
08:29It's the ultimate long-term deal.
08:31He sounds like a hard-bitten detective
08:33from a film noir.
08:35Talking about a femme fatale's dead lover.
08:37Get it through your head, lady.
08:38Frank's gone.
08:39He's 86.
08:40He bit the dust.
08:41He's dead.
08:41You understand me?
08:42Dead.
08:42But he was just down at the docks
08:44making a deal.
08:45Oh, he made a deal, all right.
08:47He made the ultimate long-term deal.
08:58Please, can you give us any details
09:00about this deal you supposedly struck?
09:03Is there at least a timeline?
09:04It puts everybody in a really good position,
09:07especially as it pertains to security
09:09and minerals and everything else.
09:10How long would the deal be, Mr. President?
09:14Infinite.
09:17There is no time limit.
09:19It's forever.
09:19It's what's called an infinite deal.
09:21It's forever.
09:23Sounds very official.
09:27Is it really infinite?
09:31At this point, it's pretty clear world leaders
09:33make deals with Trump the way kids do on the playground.
09:35I want to make sure this is a long-term deal.
09:39Would infinity suit you?
09:42We could also stipulate no takebacks.
09:44And while we rarely do this,
09:46we are prepared to pinky swear.
09:49How can you have, like, no more details
09:51about a deal you just made for a thing only you want?
09:54You sound like you're doing a book report
09:56on a book you didn't read,
09:58but it's worse because it's a book you wrote.
10:03It's like if J.D. Salinger got up in front of the class
10:05and said,
10:06uh, Catcher in the Rise about, um,
10:08like a baseball game or something.
10:12Takes place in, like, a bakery, maybe.
10:16Trump is not actually a dealmaker.
10:18He just plays one on TV.
10:19For example, here's his account
10:21of a supposed conversation he had
10:24with French President Emmanuel Macron
10:25in which Trump claims he pressured Macron
10:28into raising drug prices in his country
10:30so that they would be higher
10:32than drug prices in the U.S.
10:33I said, Emmanuel,
10:35you're going to have to lift the price of that pill
10:39to $20, maybe $30.
10:42Think of that.
10:43That means it's a doubling.
10:46A doubling of prescription drugs.
10:49Might be a tripling.
10:50Might be a quadrupling.
10:52It's not easy.
10:53No, no, no, Donald.
10:54I will not do that.
10:56I said, yes, you will, 100%.
10:59He said, no, no, no.
11:00I said, Emmanuel,
11:01you're going to be doubling or tripling.
11:03No, no, no.
11:04He said, here's the story, Emmanuel.
11:06The answer is, you're going to do it.
11:07You're going to do it fast.
11:09And if you don't,
11:10I'm putting a 25% tariff
11:12on everything that you sell
11:13into the United States
11:14and a 100% tariff
11:16on your wines and champagnes.
11:17No, no, Donald.
11:18I will do it.
11:20I will do it.
11:22It took me, on average,
11:25three minutes a country
11:27saying the same thing.
11:29You will do it.
11:29They all said,
11:30no, no, no.
11:31I will not do it.
11:32It took three minutes?
11:33Then why did it take you
11:34five to tell the story?
11:37It's just
11:38pain from the time.
11:40Yeah.
11:40Oh.
11:41The pain.
11:43Doubling, tripling, quadrupling.
11:46There's no word.
11:47For five times.
11:50And we've often wanted it,
11:52but no one ever came up with it.
11:54I've never heard a conversation
11:56that happened less
11:57than that one.
12:00I'm starting to think
12:01Macron is wearing those sunglasses
12:02because he's just dozing off
12:04while Trump drones off.
12:05You've been ripping us off
12:07for 30 years.
12:08Huh?
12:08Wait.
12:09Wait.
12:11Also, take a second
12:12to consider what Trump is saying
12:13in that totally not
12:14made-up story.
12:15His way of making Americans
12:16feel better about drug prices
12:18is not to lower them
12:19for Americans,
12:20but to raise them
12:22for everyone else.
12:23It's like if your wife
12:24caught you having an affair
12:25and your response was,
12:27I'll make it up to you,
12:27I'll call my friend Tony
12:28and get him to cheat
12:29on his wife, too.
12:31See, your marriage
12:32isn't that bad.
12:36In reality,
12:37it seems like what really happened
12:38is Trump backed down
12:39from his threats
12:40towards Greenland.
12:41After facing resistance,
12:42the world erupted in outrage.
12:44The stock market tanked.
12:45Denmark and its allies
12:46sent troops to Greenland,
12:47and Europe threatened
12:48to fire back
12:49with a special economic weapon
12:51of its own.
12:51Some leaders
12:52are threatening retaliation,
12:54including using what's been called
12:55their trade bazooka.
12:56President Macron,
12:58who requested
12:58the European Union retaliate
13:00with a so-called trade bazooka.
13:02Okay, but please
13:03don't call it that
13:04because Trump's gonna watch TV
13:05and then call out
13:06to one of his age,
13:06do we have a giant bazooka
13:08that shoots tariffs at people?
13:10No?
13:11Can we make one?
13:12And then they're gonna have
13:13to find a way to placate him,
13:14so he's gonna show up
13:15to his next press conference
13:16holding two giant Nerf bazookas.
13:19This dumb episode's yet another example
13:21of what happens
13:21when Trump encounters
13:22even minimal resistance.
13:23He backs down.
13:24It's a lesson opposition leaders
13:25here and abroad should remember
13:27whenever Trump makes
13:28an insane demand.
13:28Instead of saying,
13:29yes, yes, yes,
13:30they should start saying...
13:32No, no, no.
13:32Because if he thinks
13:34he can do whatever he wants,
13:36he might decide to...
13:37Nuke Greenland.
13:38This has been

14:20Please welcome back to the show
14:21my friend Sean Hayes, everybody.
14:40Oh,
14:49there's only so much.
14:50We only have so much music.
14:52Wait a minute.
14:53Six, seven, eight.
14:56That would have been so funny
14:57if they were ready.
14:58Yeah, well,
14:59that's how it goes here.
15:01How are you?
15:02I'm good.
15:02How are you?
15:03I haven't seen you
15:03in a couple minutes.
15:04I know I haven't seen you
15:04and the last time we talked
15:05was on Zoom
15:07for this show.
15:08But then, of course,
15:09I saw you on stage.
15:10I saw you...
15:11First of all,
15:11you're shouting at me.
15:12Yeah.
15:15I haven't seen you either!
15:17Wait, when was the Zoom?
15:18What Zoom are you talking about?
15:20Wait, was it for...
15:21I'm worried, by the way,
15:22that you're always shouting
15:24and you're the only guest
15:25with the confidence
15:26to tell me to stop.
15:27Like, if I'm having a pause now,
15:29it's like, oh, no,
15:30that seemed very normal.
15:33That's the normal way.
15:36Wait, what are you talking about?
15:37Was it the Zoom for...
15:39We Zoomed for this show.
15:40Wasn't I on this show in person?
15:42Yeah, you have been,
15:43but the last time was Zoom.
15:44Oh, none of this is interesting.
15:46I know.
15:47You know what makes it?
15:48It's better when I scream it.
15:52But I will...
15:53I saw you in person.
15:54Twice.
15:55Oh, that's right.
15:55Chicago and in New York,
15:57I saw you on stage
15:58in Good Night Oscar,
15:59which you won a Tony for.
16:00Congratulations.
16:00Yes, thank you.
16:01You deserve it, Lisa.
16:02Very nice.
16:04I, uh...
16:07In all seriousness,
16:08I was blown away that you came.
16:10I was truly honored.
16:11Like, I was so...
16:12I mean, it was...
16:12It was so amazing to see you there,
16:13so thank you so much.
16:14And I will say,
16:14I don't often see shows twice,
16:16and I'm really happy.
16:17I saw that one twice
16:18because it blew me away.
16:19It was one of the more taxing shows
16:21I've seen for a performer.
16:23Yeah.
16:23And now, your next show
16:25is a one-man show,
16:26which seems worse.
16:27So I didn't go...
16:28Like, you did not make it easier
16:30for yourself.
16:32No, but if I hear applause,
16:34the loudest person in the audience
16:35is going to be you.
16:36Oh, yeah.
16:36Yeah.
16:37Way to go!
16:39I know him from a Zoom!
16:43No, um, no, yes, you're right.
16:45I didn't take the easy route.
16:47I took the harder route because...
16:49Do you think it's because
16:50you wanted two pictures
16:50on the playbook?
16:52No, you know what's so catchy?
16:53Is this.
16:54There's two people.
16:54But the catchphrase is there's
16:56three sides to every story,
16:57which I love.
16:58Oh, there you go.
16:58Because, yeah, it's a...
16:59It's a...
17:02You guys...
17:03Did you come in early
17:04and rehearse with them?
17:06Yeah.
17:06It's like being at a sitcom.
17:08So, no, I, uh, uh, uh...
17:11Yeah, it's a thriller.
17:12I play this character, Elliot,
17:13who's a writer who has writer's block,
17:15and I get stalked by an actor
17:17I didn't cast in one of my shows,
17:19and what happens is a very tantalizing,
17:22seductive chase of cat and mouse,
17:24and that's kind of all you can say,
17:26literally, because if you say anything else,
17:27it'll start giving it away.
17:29You play a character who...
17:30Ten characters.
17:31...retreats to a cabin.
17:32That's right.
17:33Yeah.
17:34Yeah.
17:34Do you, in real life...
17:35Do I retreat?
17:37Well, that sounds so nice to me.
17:38Like, my dream is just to go to, like,
17:40a cabin where no one else is.
17:42Yeah, but not if...
17:43Not if somebody starts singing
17:45outside of the cabin in the middle of the night.
17:47That's on page one of the show.
17:48Oh.
17:49I'm not kidding.
17:51It's scary.
17:52Yeah.
17:53I would be on the phone
17:55with whoever rented me the cabin immediately.
17:57By the way,
17:58and then I'd talk to my friend
17:59who rented me the cabin.
18:00Anyway, we're giving away more than I can.
18:02I feel like I should have written this play.
18:03I know everything that happens.
18:06Ding!
18:07Wait, why, Seth?
18:07Why are you writing it on an old typewriter?
18:10I write all my stuff on an old typewriter
18:11because it's loud.
18:12It's the loudest way to write.
18:13Yeah.
18:15Hey, congratulations.
18:17Obviously, on both SmartList's success.
18:19Yes.
18:20Over 300 episodes of SmartList.
18:21Unbelievable.
18:22Six years later.
18:22And then you were...
18:26You were one of the nominees
18:28for the inaugural Golden Globe for podcasting.
18:32That's right.
18:32Yes, I was.
18:33And here's a picture from the...
18:34Oh, I'm so sorry.
18:35Oh, yeah, that's the winner.
18:38This...
18:40I am so sorry to have done it.
18:42But you guys did get to present at the Globes.
18:45Was it fun to be at the Globes?
18:46Yes.
18:46You don't have to show a picture.
18:47You can just say we presented.
18:49Yeah.
18:50Do you want me to show this one again?
18:54How was it?
18:54Was it a fun night?
18:55It was fun.
18:56Oh, my gosh.
18:56It was so fun.
18:57I walked out...
18:58I took a...
18:59I don't know if you saw it, but I took a mint right before I walked out, and the guy
19:03goes, you're on.
19:04And I was like, Jason, will you hold...
19:05He's like, I'm not taking your...
19:06And I was like...
19:08And I was trying to...
19:08So, it looks like I'm chewing gum the whole time.
19:10I don't know if you saw that or maybe...
19:11But anyway, that was my little thing.
19:13But I think it was, you know, for Will & Grace, which was a program that I was on many
19:17years ago...
19:18That was...
19:20Thanks.
19:21Yeah.
19:22Sure.
19:23I mean, it's so easy.
19:25It's so easy.
19:29That I was on.
19:31I don't know.
19:31Like, all together, all of us as actors and the show and the...
19:34Like, all these different categories.
19:35I think it's a total of 27 nominations from the Golden Globes, and now 28 with Smartless.
19:41Never won one.
19:41Really?
19:42Yeah, not once.
19:430 for 28 is really something.
19:45I know.
19:46Yeah, we're the Susan Luccis of the thing.
19:48You guys are too young.
19:49But yeah.
19:50Yeah.
19:51And it's like, they're so sweet over there.
19:52Yeah.
19:53The Golden Globes.
19:53I mean, other than rewarding you, which...
19:56Yeah.
19:56I'm being facetious.
19:57It's good vibes.
19:58It's good vibes.
19:58Yeah, yeah.
19:59I go in there feeling like a winner.
20:02The premise of Smartless, which is really unique and great...
20:06Yeah, yeah.
20:06One of you picks a guest, and the other two don't know who's coming.
20:09And sometimes, you know, obviously, there's a familiarity immediately.
20:13You know, the other...
20:13Everybody knows everybody.
20:15Yeah, right.
20:15But sometimes, I think there's a lot of fun when nobody has had been, you know, no chance
20:20to do any research at all.
20:21Right.
20:21Well, okay.
20:23All right.
20:24So, this one guy, who's the pitcher for the Dodgers, the famous guy?
20:27Kershaw?
20:28Yeah.
20:28That's him.
20:29So, he comes on...
20:30You brought him.
20:31No.
20:32Yeah.
20:34No, so, Jason's, like, obsessed with the Dodgers.
20:36And I go to the Dodgers game, and I love going to the Dodgers.
20:38It's so fun.
20:39But at the time, I didn't know any...
20:40I don't know, like, clearly, I'm not, like, a sport...
20:43Hey, let's watch sports tonight.
20:44And so, you know, we all do it through Zoom, and we have it on our laptops.
20:48So, what's his name?
20:50Clayton Kershaw.
20:50Clayton Kershaw.
20:51So, Clayton Kershaw, who is one of the nicest people, he comes on the Zoom, and Jason goes,
20:56It's Clayton Kershaw.
20:58And right away, I'm like, Oh, my God, Clayton.
21:03Oh, slow reading.
21:04It's so nice to meet you.
21:06So, and then, out of nowhere, I had nothing to offer.
21:08So, I was like, So, you're left-handed.
21:10Tell us about...
21:12I go, Yeah, I go, Tell us about that.
21:16It's literally the only question I asked him.
21:20What a funny question.
21:21Like, left-handed?
21:22Yeah, what's that like?
21:23What's that?
21:24Yeah, because I write with my right hand.
21:28Hey, one of the nice things about you being on Broadway is I feel like this is...
21:32Oh, no.
21:32You have been aiming for Broadway for a long time.
21:34You are a fairly theatrical kid.
21:37Is that safe to say?
21:38What are you talking about?
21:41Garbage dump.
21:42Garbage dump.
21:43By the way, nobody would have ever guessed.
21:46Nobody would have ever guessed.
21:46I mean, by the way, look how nicely that just, like, fits.
21:49And then my friend put that in there.
21:51You were ready for it.
21:53I have a lot more to ask you.
21:55We will be right back with more from Sean.
21:57Peace.
22:17Welcome back.
22:18We're here with Sean Hayes, everybody.
22:20True story that when you first moved to L.A., you dabbled in stand-up?
22:24Oh, gosh, yeah.
22:25I did.
22:26At the comedy store in the belly room.
22:28I mean, that's...
22:29By the way, the comedy store is an iconic place.
22:30That's no joke.
22:31I mean, but I would...
22:32Oh, my gosh.
22:33It was so bad.
22:34I didn't know how to write.
22:35Yeah.
22:35You know, still learning.
22:37And, um, and...
22:38I'm a typewriter.
22:39No, and, uh...
22:41And I would go and I would just tell, like, bad...
22:43Like, I thought you could just go up there and tell stories without jokes.
22:46Yeah, yeah, yeah.
22:46And so I would be like, what was my joke?
22:48Oh, my one joke was, you know, they say ballet, doing ballet, is one of the most difficult things you
22:53can do.
22:54So I say, just don't do it.
22:58Well, they laugh.
22:59By the way, that is a thousand times more than I got that night.
23:03People were like, what?
23:06Larry David is doing an HBO sketch show about the 250th anniversary of the United States.
23:11That's correct.
23:12And here you are, Jon Hamm.
23:14There you are.
23:15So me, yeah.
23:21That's me, Larry, and Nick Offerman.
23:23I mean, Jon Hamm.
23:25Um, and, uh, yeah.
23:27And we play the Wright brothers, and Larry plays the third Wright brother.
23:31Right.
23:31And so, um, it's a really great idea for a show.
23:34Of course, they're both brilliant and hilarious.
23:36And so, the sketch that we did is, um, you know, the Wright brothers playing,
23:40and Larry can't believe he has to sit in the middle of the three seats.
23:43It's the first plane.
23:44And they built the plane.
23:46I mean, I couldn't believe it.
23:47By the way, I've had other friends who have done things on the show, and they send me photos.
23:51It looks like the budget, no, no money was spared.
23:53Like, genuinely.
23:54Right, and everything I see looks like a movie.
23:56Yeah, they built the plane.
23:57I couldn't believe it.
23:58That's fantastic.
23:59Anyway, but that's HBO for you.
24:00Um, I, um, you got a dog.
24:02That's a compliment.
24:04You got a dog during the pandemic.
24:05I did.
24:06Did you?
24:07No, but I recently lost one.
24:09Thanks.
24:10Wait.
24:10Wait, are you serious?
24:11Did you really lose a dog?
24:12Well, it was only six months ago, but that's...
24:14The dog was only six months?
24:15No, the dog was like...
24:16The dog was like a million.
24:19No, my dog passed away six months ago.
24:21What?
24:22Show that one first.
24:23Well, okay, yeah, because I guess, like, based on this, you're like, that's a normal-sized dog.
24:27That, that, his name is Ricky.
24:29He's a golden doodle.
24:29He's more golden than doodle.
24:30Yeah.
24:31And when we got him, we thought he was going to be like, you know, grow up just like to
24:34be a little thing.
24:35And this is how big he is on the couch with Scotty.
24:39Look at, look at Scotty.
24:41I mean.
24:41And look at the horse that we bought.
24:43I mean, that is like, I, I, it's like unconscious.
24:46Like, how, how much does this dog weigh?
24:48He weighs 770 pounds.
24:51He's got his own TLC special.
24:55You've got to crane him out of the house?
24:56That's my 700-pound dog.
24:58Isn't there like a, my 700-pound sister or something?
25:01Yeah, I'm sure.
25:01And if not, there should be.
25:04You are a, you are a creator of games.
25:07Yeah, yeah, yeah.
25:07So this is a game called Quick, Quick, Quick.
25:09It came out over Christmas.
25:11It's a huge success.
25:12It's a, it's, it's, it's a really, it's a fun game to play with families.
25:16The whole family?
25:17The entire family.
25:18Unless the kids go to sleep and you go like this, then it's really fun.
25:21Okay, gotcha.
25:21And, but yeah, we can play if you want, if you don't.
25:24Okay, yeah.
25:24How does Quick, Quick, Quick work?
25:25Literally, you just ask the questions.
25:26There's a timer.
25:27We don't have the time.
25:28But if there's a timer.
25:29So it's just about speed.
25:30So you set the timer.
25:31Yeah, and whoever gets the most cards wins.
25:32Ready?
25:32Okay.
25:33Go.
25:33All right, so.
25:34No, yeah, you ask me and then I'll ask you.
25:36Quick, Quick, Quick.
25:36List three weird materials to build a fence with.
25:40Straws, like straw, like sipping straws.
25:42Uh-huh.
25:44Afghans and, um, and dead dogs.
25:47Okay, great.
25:48All right, now I'll ask you what, let's see, see.
25:51And then you go like this.
25:52Okay, great.
25:52And then Quick, Quick, Quick, list three names you would not name your baby.
25:55Um, uh, Murphy Brown.
25:57Um, uh, Jackalope.
25:59Um, uh, Adolph Smith.
26:03Okay.
26:04Um, give three reasons.
26:06Oh, Quick, Quick, Quick.
26:07Give three reasons to give your telephone number out.
26:09Um, I, um, uh, I would like to be in your movie.
26:15I would like to get dinner with you.
26:17I would, uh, like you to give me money.
26:20Okay, last one.
26:20Last one.
26:21Quick, Quick, Quick.
26:22Share three things you would not want to bathe in.
26:24Three things I would not want to bathe in.
26:26Um, um, hot molasses.
26:27Yeah.
26:28Um, uh, the East River.
26:30Yeah.
26:31Um, uh, a bowl of Cheerios.
26:34That's amazing.
26:35Wait a minute.
26:35Oh, it didn't ding.
26:36Ding.
26:37You won.
26:42So, wait.
26:43When is, um, uh, when is, uh, when is the first show with an audience?
26:48Right now.
26:48I'm going to do it right now.
26:49Great.
26:49The whole show.
26:50Yeah.
26:50You're going to do your one-minute show.
26:52Uh, I know.
26:53Right?
26:53We talked about that.
26:54It's like, they say previews and things.
26:56But in my mind, if you're buying a ticket, we open.
26:58So we open January 31st.
27:01That's the first time somebody can see the show.
27:02That's right.
27:03But we officially open February 12th.
27:05And you have done, obviously, uh, you know, uh, recent history is Good Night Oscar.
27:08So, uh, you have a sense.
27:10Do you feel pretty good at where you're at?
27:11About a week or so?
27:11Yeah, that's a really good question.
27:12Yeah, because, no, seriously, because I, you know, we rehearse every day and I just started
27:17doing the run-through from the top to the bottom.
27:19And I go, that had to be four and a half hours long.
27:21Yeah.
27:21It's like, no, it's an hour and 10 minutes.
27:23Wow.
27:23I was like, what?
27:24I mean, it feels like climbing a mountain every time.
27:27But it's very exhilarating.
27:28What is the...
27:29It's written so well.
27:30Let me finish.
27:30Let me finish.
27:31It's written...
27:32It's written so...
27:33Hang on.
27:34It's written so well and directed so brilliantly.
27:37Seth, it's your turn.
27:39I was going to ask, is it written well and brilliantly?
27:42But you asked me.
27:44Wait, how is it...
27:45Is it...
27:46Is this a 70-minute show?
27:47Yeah, 70, 75, something around there.
27:49Yeah.
27:49I mean, that's fantastic.
27:51Ten different characters, and it's crazy.
27:53I mean, it's so clever.
27:55And an ending...
27:57Like, it's one of the reasons I said yes.
27:58The ending you will never see coming.
28:00I will say, a Broadway thriller,
28:02so I'm guessing no intermission.
28:04No intermission.
28:05This sounds very...
28:06What if there was an intermission every 10 minutes?
28:09There's an intermission?
28:09You're like, there are five intermissions.
28:12But no, it's thrilling because it's such a challenge
28:15to lose yourself as an audience member
28:17into the storytelling of, whether it's me or not me,
28:21of one person playing all of these different characters.
28:23It's really...
28:24I can't wait for people to see it.
28:26I mean, I may be brilliant.
28:27I may suck.
28:28Who knows?
28:29But to see the story unfold is just riveting.
28:34Well, I can't wait either.
28:35Thanks.
28:35Thank you so much for being here, buddy.
28:36Thanks for having me.
28:36It's always such a pleasure.
28:38All right, Sean Randall,
28:39ready for Four Misses of the Unknown.
28:41We'll be on January 31st at Studio C-View
28:43here in New York.
28:44We'll be right back with Maria Taylor.
28:46We'll be right back with Maria Taylor.
29:00Our next guest is an Emmy-winning sportscaster
29:02and producer who hosts NBC's Football Night in America
29:05and is the lead studio host for the NML, NBA,
29:08and WNBA on NBC Sports.
29:10You can see her all month as a part of NBC Sports'
29:13legendary February featuring the 2026 Winter Olympics,
29:16Super Bowl 60, and the NBA All-Star Game.
29:19Please welcome back to the show, Maria Taylor, everybody.
29:36Hi!
29:38How are you?
29:39I'm doing great.
29:40How are you?
29:40I'm wonderful.
29:41It's a very exciting time to be doing sports at NBC.
29:43Yeah.
29:44A lot going on.
29:45Just a little bit of something, something.
29:46You, um, I wanted to ask.
29:48I was, uh, I thought it was incredible.
29:50Uh, the game, the Bears-Rams game
29:52was one of the best games I've ever watched.
29:53I was not jealous at all.
29:55No.
29:55Of you being there.
29:57Because it was cold?
29:57It was so cold.
29:58You wouldn't, you wouldn't brave the cold
30:00to watch an amazing game?
30:02No, because you guys put it on TV for me.
30:04Uh, here's a photo of you guys.
30:06I mean, you, you look way too happy for how cold it was.
30:09But were there, what were people doing?
30:11Like, what were the players doing?
30:12Did you notice any tips?
30:13Hey, first of all, we all have on 17,000 layers.
30:16I would imagine.
30:16So, yes.
30:17So, they took care of you.
30:18They took care of us.
30:19Yeah.
30:19But on the sidelines, if you watch, there's actually,
30:21they were giving out hot chocolate
30:23and chicken broth for the Bears.
30:24And they even had, like, little marshmallows on the side.
30:27Like, I was, I was kind of thrown a little bit by that.
30:29We didn't even have hot chocolate.
30:30Like, we didn't get marshmallows.
30:31I will say, for a hard-hitting game,
30:33I did not know they were having marshmallows on the side.
30:36Yeah, that's how you keep it soft and light.
30:38Yeah.
30:38You know what I mean?
30:39But those were the tricks they had?
30:40Yeah, those were some of the tricks.
30:41And also, they have, there's heaters on the sideline,
30:43which we may or may not have stolen
30:45and pointed towards our set during the show.
30:46And you also have, like, heated seats.
30:48Like, they would sit down, and this would be warm.
30:50They heat their helmets.
30:51So, that's how they stay warm.
30:52All right.
30:52Well, I mean, it was something to see.
30:54Also, something to see is during the halftime shows,
30:58when you're in studio,
30:59it seems like recently you guys have added a dance routine
31:02with you and a lot of guys
31:04who don't seem to be very good at dancing.
31:06Yeah, so imagine trying to teach this guy right here,
31:11like, the one, two.
31:12You know what I mean?
31:13Just, like, one, two.
31:14Yeah.
31:15Like, that's all we're trying to do.
31:16And it's a no-go?
31:17It's a no-go.
31:18It's like, one, two, three.
31:18I will say, Matt Berry is a friend of mine.
31:20Like, I can't believe you got him to dance.
31:22Do you think he's dancing?
31:25Oh, that's interesting.
31:26Now that I'm thinking back,
31:28there's music playing, and he's moving.
31:30And he's moving with said music.
31:31But you're right.
31:31That's not dancing.
31:33But, no, it is actually funny,
31:35because they now, the first time we did it,
31:37they didn't really want to,
31:38but now there's, like, a little fandom to it.
31:40Yeah, that's good.
31:41And, like, the guys are getting props.
31:43Like, they'll get on a plane,
31:44and they'll see, like, the pilot will be like,
31:46oh, my God, I saw you dancing.
31:47They don't see our show, but they see them dancing.
31:49That's all it takes is a little positive feedback
31:51from a commercial airline pilot.
31:55And you're down for whatever.
31:56And you're down for whatever.
31:57This is a crazy month for Sports on the Network,
32:00and they're not giving you a break at all.
32:03No, we keep joking that we'll sleep in March.
32:06Yes.
32:06But what's happening is we have the NBA back on NBC.
32:09So Sunday night basketball starting February 1st.
32:13Very exciting.
32:13So literally, like, we have a Lakers-Knicks game.
32:15You hop on a plane, go straight to Santa Clara.
32:18As soon as the Super Bowl's over,
32:19we're pretty much all just going on, like,
32:21a red-eye flight trying to get to Milan.
32:23I'll stop at JFK, pick up a two-year-old.
32:25We'll put him on a plane,
32:26and he's going to come with me to Milan.
32:27So pray for me, please.
32:28Oh, my God.
32:29Please pray for me.
32:30I mean, by the way,
32:30I'm praying for everybody else on the plane.
32:32Yeah.
32:33Because here's the thing.
32:34Like, you, no matter what happens on the plane,
32:36you will still love your son.
32:38Will I?
32:39You will.
32:39Everyone else on the plane might not.
32:41I already...
32:42I did a flight from Atlanta to New York,
32:44and in the middle of the flight,
32:45we're watching cars.
32:46He's doing great.
32:47He's so happy.
32:48Busts out screaming.
32:49And it was his ears were hurting.
32:50Oh, yeah, that happens.
32:51And I'm like, I'm so sorry, guys, everyone.
32:53Like, I apologize to every single person on the plane
32:55before they get off.
32:56I think it's a better...
32:57It's a better vibe now.
32:58I think people on planes are better than they used to be,
33:00where I think they all remember
33:01they were probably kids on planes.
33:04And they remember being the person.
33:06That's so cool.
33:07I mean, again, two,
33:09hopefully, he'll be able to remember,
33:11but how long is he going to be along with you?
33:12The whole time.
33:13Wow.
33:14We're there for 15 days.
33:15Okay, that's great.
33:16Yeah.
33:16February 9th, I think, through the 23rd.
33:18What are you looking forward to the most,
33:21event-wise, at the Winter Olympics?
33:22Oh, 100% bobsled.
33:23Bobsled?
33:24Yeah.
33:25Cool Runnings, come on.
33:27No.
33:28You wouldn't get it.
33:28No chance.
33:29I can't believe that...
33:30I wouldn't be afraid.
33:31So, Cool Runnings had the effect of making you...
33:33Feel the rhythm.
33:33Yeah, yeah, yeah.
33:34No, I mean...
33:35Get up, it's bobsled time.
33:37You guys know that, right?
33:40Like, if you've seen that movie,
33:42you're 100% a fan of bobsled.
33:44If you had to do one Winter Olympic sport...
33:47Because you were an athlete.
33:48Okay.
33:48You played basketball.
33:49You played volleyball.
33:50I did.
33:50It would probably be the bobsled,
33:53because apparently, like, if you're a sprinter,
33:55a lot of, like, people who ran track,
33:57they end up being great at bobsled.
33:59Right.
33:59And in my mind, I was a sprinter.
34:00Yeah.
34:01That makes sense.
34:02I would imagine, yeah.
34:04Because I...
34:04You know what, again,
34:04no shade on the bobsled community.
34:07I feel like once you're in the sled,
34:09there's not much going on, right?
34:11Like, I get, like, running as fast as you can,
34:14and I would not be able to do it.
34:16But then, like, I mean,
34:16I feel like it's a little bit of, like...
34:18Right.
34:20But if you watch Cool Runnings,
34:21remember, in the end, they crash.
34:23Yeah, that's true.
34:24I mean, no, I'm not going to do it.
34:26Well, you asked me if I was going to do it.
34:27Yeah, exactly.
34:28You didn't ask me.
34:29I'll do it together.
34:30If there was one sport that you had to do
34:32at the Winter Olympics, what would it be?
34:33Co-ed two-person bobsled with you.
34:35With me.
34:35Yeah.
34:36Good.
34:38What are...
34:40NBA All-Star Game.
34:41Is this the first time they're doing the format
34:43of a U.S. versus the World?
34:45It's U.S. versus the World.
34:46We actually just released the All-Star starters
34:48on our show on Monday.
34:49We had, like, a quadruple header on MLK Day.
34:51And so far, we have five All-Star starters
34:54that would be for the U.S.,
34:55and five that would be international.
34:57And it's looking like the international team is stacked.
34:59Oh, that's very exciting.
34:59Yeah.
35:00But it'll be good.
35:01That's very good.
35:01And now, I want to ask,
35:03because I think, you know,
35:04when you work like you do, you know, in sports,
35:07you sometimes have to hide your own loyalties.
35:09But you have them, right?
35:10Oh, 100%.
35:11And who are your teams?
35:13But I am a great sports neutral...
35:15Yeah, I was going to say.
35:16I didn't know.
35:17Right.
35:17Okay, so I am a super fan for the University of Georgia.
35:20Okay.
35:21I was a bulldog growing up.
35:23And so I went to Georgia,
35:24played volleyball and basketball there.
35:26Like, if you catch me during a Georgia game,
35:27I can't focus.
35:29I'm not okay.
35:29I'm not all right.
35:30I'm well.
35:31I'm very much that way.
35:33I'm a Pittsburgh Steelers fan,
35:34and I'm currently unwell.
35:37You want to...
35:39Okay.
35:39Can I...
35:39Honestly, we're praying for you.
35:41Can I tell you...
35:42Can I tell you the funniest thing is, like, every...
35:44Because, again, what?
35:44Every four years, NBC has a Super Bowl, right?
35:46Yes.
35:46And so this year, like, they always reach out,
35:48and they're like,
35:49hey, you know, would you want to go to the Super Bowl?
35:51Would you want four tickets?
35:51Yeah.
35:52And every time NBC has it...
35:53I'm still waiting for my four tickets.
35:54Wait, they just call you for...
35:55Wait a minute.
35:56They just call you up, and they're like,
35:57Oh, yeah, they call me.
35:58And I'm always like, leave me alone!
36:00I'll take his.
36:01No, but I'm always like, here's the thing.
36:03If the Steelers aren't in it,
36:04I have no interest.
36:04I'm not going to go.
36:05But if the Steelers are in it,
36:12I think we'll be okay, yeah.
36:14You can have 100 tickets.
36:16Where were you when they won the Super Bowl in 08?
36:18I was there.
36:19Yeah?
36:19Yeah, yeah, yeah.
36:19I was lucky enough to be there in 05, 08,
36:22and then, sadly, in 2010 when they lost.
36:24But with my parents and with my brother,
36:26and the two wins were, like,
36:28two of the best days of my life.
36:29Okay, and why a Steelers fan?
36:30My dad's from Pittsburgh, so that's all it takes.
36:32Okay, got it.
36:33That's all it takes.
36:34Well, sorry, that's all it took for him.
36:35Yeah.
36:37Your dad was a coach as well.
36:39He did, yeah.
36:40My dad played best.
36:40We're all huge.
36:41I'm 6'2".
36:42As you saw, I could dunk on him when I walked out.
36:45So my dad is 6'8".
36:50But I don't like him.
36:53They're not on your side.
36:54No, they're really not.
36:55But, yeah, so he coached in college,
36:57and I always knew I was probably going to play back.
36:59Like, there weren't a lot of options.
37:00Like, my dad was like,
37:01I'm not paying for college.
37:02You're tall for a reason.
37:03Figure it out.
37:04Did he ever coach one of your teams?
37:06He did when I played AAU.
37:08Okay.
37:08I actually loved it.
37:09I loved my dad being my coach.
37:10So my son is, I'm coaching him for sure.
37:13Okay.
37:13And do you feel like,
37:14is it too early to tell if your son's going to be tall?
37:17No, my son could dunk on you, too.
37:20I'm not playing games.
37:21I feel like this is more about me
37:22than about you and your son.
37:24You're just going to start pointing out audience members,
37:26like, they can do it.
37:27Yeah.
37:28He can windmill jam on you.
37:30100%.
37:30But I do, I hear what you're saying.
37:32So I do, like, I take him to a basketball court or something.
37:34I'm like, I don't know.
37:35He's got good footwork.
37:36I'll go watch him backpedal.
37:37And he's, like, literally doing nothing.
37:39Oh, that.
37:40Meanwhile, my oldest can't walk down the hallway
37:42without stubbing his toe.
37:43Okay.
37:44Like, there's, like, the least coordinated.
37:46Yeah.
37:46That's all right.
37:47No, he's going to have a full life.
37:48Super sweet.
37:49It's going to be great.
37:50Did you, uh, were you better at volleyball or basketball?
37:53Um, I was great at both, obviously.
37:58Thank you!
37:59Just real quick, I'm going to guess,
38:01I'm going to try to guess, could you spike on me?
38:03I could definitely spike on you.
38:05I wouldn't do that to you.
38:06Gotcha.
38:06Which one did you enjoy more?
38:08I love to watch volleyball more
38:10and probably to play basketball a little bit more.
38:12What is it about, I mean, I will say, like,
38:14you know, I'll admit that mostly when I see volleyball,
38:18it's like somebody will post an incredible point
38:20on, like, social media.
38:21And it is thrilling to watch, like, how the team works together.
38:24Is that what draws you to it?
38:27100%.
38:27I think when I was growing up,
38:29like, I started playing basketball when I was young,
38:30so sixth grade.
38:31And you know the AAU culture.
38:32I don't know if your kids play any sports,
38:33but it's, like, year-round.
38:35Uh, no and no.
38:36Okay.
38:38I like that you were like, I know the AAU.
38:40I don't even know what those letters stand for, man.
38:43I kind of knew that was going to be your answer,
38:44but just know if...
38:45Is it, like, the Math Olympics?
38:46It kind of is.
38:47Okay, good, good.
38:48Yes, it's year-round, right?
38:49Yeah, yeah, yeah.
38:49So you've got to be, like, constantly practicing,
38:51thinking about it.
38:52And so I got sick of basketball towards the end,
38:53and in order to get out of basketball,
38:56like, preseason workouts, I played volleyball.
38:57Oh, very good.
38:58I love a volleyball.
38:59And that's a good way to go about it.
39:00Hey, stay safe and stay healthy on all your travels.
