00:00Statutes don't smile or talk.
00:03It might be awkward.
00:04They'll be like, Anak.
00:04I'll be like, hmm.
00:06Anak, so what are you wearing tonight?
00:07Hmm.
00:09How do you feel?
00:10Mm-hmm.
00:12Mm-hmm.
00:19Hi, Vanity Fair.
00:21It's Anak Yai, and I'm getting ready for the Met.
00:24Come on in.
00:25So this year, I'm having a prosthetic
00:28with put on by the most fan of this team right here.
00:32This is a silicone, encapsulated silicone prosthetic,
00:36so it's going to be fully glued to her.
00:40It's going to look dirty, nasty, stanky.
00:42Oh, word.
00:43And then, round two, come look at the view.
00:54It's hectic right now.
00:56High and messy.
00:58The theme for this room right now,
01:00there's like 100 people in this room.
01:02Turn on the camera.
01:03Everybody say hi!
01:05Hi!
01:06How many Met Gala's have I done?
01:07Seven.
01:08Which Met Gala is this?
01:09Seven?
01:10Lucky number seven.
01:11I think this is the first time where like a...
01:13No, I'm always nervous, but like this time...
01:17I'm like extremely nervous.
01:18I'm doing something so different with my hair and makeup that like I haven't done before.
01:24And ooh, that's fab.
01:25Yeah.
01:25Because I've done so many Met's, when I go with like some designers, I don't want to let
01:30my fans down and I don't want the designer down.
01:33It's Pierpaolo's first met with Lunciaga.
01:35It's my first met with him.
01:37And it's um...
01:38I think this is like the first met where like I've done like something crazy that I don't
01:44think anyone will do.
01:44No one's going to show up with another prosthetic wig, right?
01:47Yeah.
01:48I'm just hoping that people are going to react to it in a way where like they think it's
01:55cool.
01:56But I think I look cool.
01:57I'm going to go, damn.
01:58Yeah.
01:59Nothing makes sense about the Met Gala.
02:00The thing about the Met Gala is just like you're never going to get comfortable.
02:04It's always nerve wracking.
02:06Such a huge iconic thing.
02:09Yeah.
02:09Every year I'm scared.
02:11Hopefully I don't fall downstairs.
02:17So when I had this idea, I was trying to explain it to everyone.
02:20I was like, I want prosthetic hair, like a statue, bronze.
02:23And they're just like, what the hell are you talking about?
02:26And when I was trying to explain to my team, I want to like a statue with prosthetic hair
02:33and like looking like a deity, they're just like, okay, girl, I couldn't explain that well.
02:39So I was just like, let me do the makeup test and I'll show you.
02:41Okay.
02:41So you guys probably saw a video of me coming out of a hotel with a towel on my head.
02:47That's because we did the makeup test and I was going to Pierpao's headquarters to show
02:52him how the hair and makeup looked with the outfit.
02:55And then once he saw it, he said, okay, it makes sense.
02:58Honestly, it's going faster than I thought.
03:01When I have like crazy makeup looks, I expect it to take like 12 hours.
03:05But this time I woke up at, I think I started getting ready at like 7 AM.
03:13I got a facial and then a massage and then another facial and then the fat drainage.
03:20And then we started the prosthetics.
03:22Normally something like this takes at least two weeks, but we did not have that amount of time.
03:27I called them the week before.
03:29I said, please, please, can you please make me a prosthetic wig?
03:32They said, oh God.
03:34They said, okay.
03:34So then they flew in from LA and then they did, um, what's it called?
03:37When you live cast, they did live cast.
03:40Oh my God.
03:40You guys, I thought that I had like a mental fortitude after 30 minutes.
03:45I was just like, okay.
03:47And then after 45 minutes, I was just like, hey, somebody.
03:52And then after 50 minutes, I was just like, damn.
03:55And I forgot how to breathe.
03:57Is that normal?
03:58Um, you get very disassociated.
04:00I got very claustrophobic.
04:02And, uh, I had a little crash out moment, but it still worked out.
04:07I wanted to like do a nod to Medusa.
04:10So the back of the hair is a snake knotted.
04:14Let me turn.
04:17Can you see it?
04:19Can you see it?
04:23Can y'all see it?
04:24Yeah.
04:27How long has it been right now?
04:29It's only been like 11, acute 11 o'clock.
04:32It's only been like, what?
04:33Three hours?
04:34Yeah.
04:36Right.
04:36Okay.
04:37Three hours sounds crazy, but realistically, that's very fast.
04:39The process of the application took about an hour today to get glued and blended down
04:46because we did a test yesterday.
04:48So it went pretty seamlessly today.
04:50Laurel and Chica are working in tandem with the same product and taking it up into the wig.
04:56I love the Met so much because like I have an opportunity to like get the best creatives in the
05:01world.
05:02And then like, we're just having fun.
05:04Like I love creative direction and like the designers allow me to really collaborate.
05:08The collaboration is like what makes everything like so much better.
05:13Once you have a group of talented minds put together, like, like this?
05:18Girl, work.
05:23She is wearing Balenciaga Couture by Pier Paolo Petula.
05:28Pier Paolo and Anak had this vision of her as the Black Madonna.
05:33We were all very inspired by Renaissance paintings, something that felt relevant to both Italian culture, Black culture, as well
05:41as Balenciaga.
05:42And it felt like a sort of natural marriage of those three things.
05:46We made this dress last night, Anak and I did.
05:50Myself in his kitchen.
05:53I was in his kitchen last night sewing it together.
05:56How long did the dress take for me?
05:57Oh, wow.
05:59It took 15 people about a week to make working around the clock.
06:03The train is about five or six meters, so much taller than me.
06:09And it's going to make for a very dramatic entrance for a very dramatic night.
06:15I want to teach you to a husband.
06:17Me, I'm right.
06:19Yeah.
06:30Bye, Vanity Fair.
06:31Bye.
06:32Bye.
06:33Bye.
06:36Bye.
06:36Bye.
06:36Bye.
06:38Bye.
06:40Bye.
