00:00The first thing I crave the second I walk off stage is electrolyte water.
00:03One time I was on set and I was sick and I'm like, I need electrolyte water.
00:06I had 16 electrolyte water packets and I found out that that's actually so bad for you
00:11and I was severely dehydrated actually from the electrolyte packet so I had to tone it down.
00:25Hey Vogue, I'm Olivia Rodrigo and today I'm going to be making some lumpia and a Paloma.
00:31Very excited.
00:32Honestly, my go-to drink is a vodka cranberry but I thought that that was a little bit too tacky
00:37for
00:37Vogue so Paloma is like slightly elevated which is why I love it.
00:41I'm going to start with a shot of tequila.
00:48Do you guys know that meme of like someone's making a cocktail and it's like three shots of tequila
00:53and she pours like half the bottle.
00:54That's how I feel every time I pour something.
00:56Two shots of grapefruit juice.
01:01Tour bedtime is so all over the place.
01:04Tour sleeping is all over the place.
01:05I think my record for a full night's sleep on tour is like 14 hours.
01:09You're just so exhausted all the time that no amount of sleep is enough and I'm a great sleeper.
01:15That's one of my talents is I can sleep anywhere.
01:17I always say it's because I have a clear conscience but I don't know.
01:21One shot of agave to make it sweet.
01:24I like my drinks kind of sweet.
01:25And I'm going to take one of these calamansis.
01:28These are Filipino fruits.
01:30These delicious little sour kind of orange things.
01:34They're really delicious.
01:35I'm going to add it into my paloma for a little extra pizzazz.
01:39A night out probably going to like a fun Italian restaurant and like
01:43getting glasses of wine and telling secrets.
01:45But we've been staying in a lot lately and my friends and I will play this stupid card game
01:50called Nertz for legitimately four hours instead of going out and it's so lame.
01:55But we're so addicted.
01:57I recommend that everyone try it because it's really fun.
01:59Okay, so I'm going to put this on now.
02:02Someone said that you have to do 13 of them.
02:05I don't know.
02:06That's just random, but that's what I did.
02:08Then I'm going to salt my rim.
02:15Oops.
02:16My favorite story about drinking palomas.
02:19My best friend and I, I think we were like 19 and we went to a bar and obviously we
02:24weren't old
02:25enough to like be served alcohol at a bar.
02:26But we're like, maybe if we go in there super confidently, they'll serve us a drink.
02:30We're like, okay, let's go.
02:31It's like we hyped ourselves up.
02:32And we're like, the only drink that we knew is this like grapefruit tequila thing.
02:36And we're like, great, we're going to do it.
02:37And they came up to us and they weren't going to card us.
02:39We were feeling so confident.
02:40My friend goes, yeah, um, we'll take two panomas.
02:43And the person's like Palomas ID, please.
02:47And then we didn't get served alcohol.
02:49But now I know that it's called the Paloma and it's really good.
02:51And I'm 22 so I can drink it legally, which just makes it taste even better.
02:58Mmm, really good.
03:00The salt on the rim just ties it all together too.
03:03It's like 1pm while we're filming this, but it's so good.
03:05I might have the whole thing.
03:07I don't have anything else to do today.
03:09All right.
03:10First step to the lumpia is I'm going to chop up some of these carrots.
03:14I was originally going to, um, mince these by hand and I was so worried that I was going to
03:19be
03:19Kendall Jenner cucumber meme-ified.
03:21So we're doing the food processor.
03:30So I'm going to add these carrots into my chicken bowl.
03:36Ah, take that out.
03:40Lumpi to someone who's never had lumpi before.
03:42They're really delicious and savory and like kind of greasy in the best way.
03:47Um, I don't know.
03:50It's just like feel good food.
03:51My grandma used to make them for Thanksgiving every year.
03:55And so that was probably my first introduction to lumpia.
03:58I'm making the like roll ones and she would always make the triangle ones, but
04:02triangle ones are just like purely safe for Thanksgiving for me.
04:05So now I am going to cut an onion in half.
04:13I'm really bad at chopping vegetables.
04:15I'm an okay baker, but cooking is really hard for me because I'm have terrible, uh,
04:21cutting skills.
04:21I'm working on it and I like don't have that, um, ability to like, you know when people taste soup
04:26and they're like, oh, it needs a little bit more rosemary or something.
04:29Like I'm lost.
04:30I'm just so lost.
04:31If it's not on the recipe, I don't know what's going on.
04:33So I'm going to take this half onion and put it in here.
04:41Oh, I'm crying already with these onions.
04:43I'm not actually crying because I'm so moved by thinking about my new album.
04:46You know, one word is hard.
04:48I feel like the album is very varied.
04:51It's very varied.
04:52I really wanted to figure out a way to kind of write about joy in this album.
04:56I feel like my last two albums are very rightfully so kind of angsty and heartbroken
05:01and um, just as a creative endeavor and also because I was experiencing a lot of joy in my life,
05:06I wanted to figure out how to like inject that into the songs that I was making.
05:08So yeah, I'm really proud of it and I hope everyone likes it.
05:13I feel like I create the best when I'm alone.
05:15There's like a weird feeling, like everyone feels it like when you're like writing something
05:20or making art or whatever you do that's creative.
05:23There's like a weird flow state that you get in when you're um, really creative
05:27or you're having a good idea.
05:28I call it like a big magic idea where it sort of just feels like you're downloading something
05:30from the universe.
05:31And that only ever really happens to me when I'm totally alone.
05:34I think being alone is a really important part of the creative process.
05:37Um, and I, I love being alone.
05:39I'm a Pisces and very emotional.
05:40So it works for me.
05:42Two cloves of garlic.
05:44I love garlic.
05:45I overdo it on everything.
05:46I overdo it on garlic.
05:47I overdo it on salts.
05:48I overdo it on sugar every time I'm baking.
05:50I have like crazy superstitions before I go on stage.
05:53And I think if I told people they would actually think I'm insane.
05:55So I like, I'll keep them to myself.
05:56But the one that I do that's like relatively normal is before I go out,
06:01I like always take a second.
06:02I stand outside the door and I like like this and take a deep breath and I go like that.
06:06And then I go out and get all of the jitters out.
06:08The morning after a show, my body's pretty sore.
06:12I always have to take, um, ice baths because my muscles and my legs get like so sore and tight
06:18and they like give me a lot of problems.
06:19So usually the day after a show, I'm like a little bit hurting,
06:21but also probably fulfilled from the night before of music and fun.
06:25I feel like Rachel Ray, you guys.
06:28This is great.
06:28I feel like I always think of, um, song ideas when I'm doing something kind of boring,
06:33um, like doing the dishes or something.
06:35Or even if I'm like seeing a movie that's like bad, I'm like bored in the movie.
06:40Then I go into my mind palettes and I'm like, oh, I should write about that.
06:43Boredom is like the best thing ever.
06:45If you're trying to make something.
06:46Okay.
06:47I'm cilantro and I love cilantro.
06:49Okay.
06:50So now all of our ingredients are in this bowl.
06:52I'm going to crack an egg into it.
06:53It's the final step.
06:56I'm going to do a little bit of pepper and a little bit of salt.
07:02A tablespoon of the sesame oil.
07:05I love sesame.
07:07I'm going to take a sip of my Paloma before I put the gloves on,
07:10because it's getting serious.
07:13Okay.
07:14An emotion that I'm most interested in writing about.
07:16I think in this album, I really wanted to write about love,
07:20which is the most broad topic ever.
07:22I think in music, my favorite love songs are love songs that are a little bit sad,
07:27or have a little bit of like wistfulness or mourning or fear or something.
07:30And so I kind of set out making this album, like trying to write a sad love song.
07:34And I hope that I did it at least in a few.
07:37Yeah.
07:37But anyway, let's let's make this.
07:39This is one and a half pounds of chicken, I believe.
07:42You can make lumpy with like pork and beef, but I really like chicken with chicken girl.
07:45That looks pretty darn good.
07:47Okay.
07:48Now the fun part, we're going to roll it, but I'm going to make this egg wash first.
07:52So I just want the yolk in there.
07:56All right.
07:57There's my wash.
07:59I'm going to start wrapping my lumpia now.
08:01I'm going to take one of these wrappers.
08:04I'm going to cut off the top here.
08:06Okay.
08:07So I'm going to take just a little bit here.
08:12Spread it out with my hands.
08:14I just try to shave them as uniformly as I possibly can, but it doesn't always work out that way,
08:18but it's okay because it's made with love.
08:19What do I need to give me energy on tour?
08:21A lot of healthy food.
08:23You need to nourish your body like crazy.
08:25I started taking vitamins on tour, which I never did before, but oh my God, changed the game.
08:29Every letter, every number, whatever the hell is on the shelf.
08:33That's what I'm taking.
08:33I'm so nutrient dense over here.
08:36Okay.
08:36So I'm just like folding it in here.
08:38And then I get to the end, put the glue on the end.
08:44It feels like painting.
08:46I write a lot.
08:48I'm a big quantity over quality person when it comes to writing.
08:52I just love the act of writing.
08:54And I think the more that you show up and show the universe that you're ready to work,
08:57the better ideas you'll receive.
08:59I write so many songs that don't work, like countless, probably like 10,000 in my life.
09:06Like I write so many songs that don't work, but it's okay.
09:08And every time that you write a song that doesn't work,
09:10you take a little bit of that song, like one line or one melody,
09:14and you put it into a song that does work.
09:15So even when I write a bad song, I'm like, you know what?
09:18It's the journey.
09:21Tour is like the perfect litmus test for whether or not a song is good.
09:24It's like either they jump when they hear the song or they don't.
09:26And so it's definitely inspiring.
09:28You always want to write a song that you feel like would play well live
09:31and could affect that many people and bring that many people together.
09:34I feel like that's just a great test of if a song is really worth its salt.
09:39All right, last up.
09:41I'm gonna fry these bad boys.
09:43I'm always so scared of oil.
09:45Whenever I make bacon, I feel like I'm always hiding behind a wall.
09:50Okay.
09:53Now we wait.
09:54I'm gonna wait till they like float to the top.
09:56Usually when they float to the top, that means they're good.
09:58I'm more fun before midnight or after midnight.
10:00God, I like to say I'm just fun all the time.
10:03My toxic trait in the night out is if I ever get even slightly tipsy,
10:06I'm just like, you guys, I'm so happy we're all here right now.
10:10I love you all so much.
10:12What would I do without you?
10:13Friendship is the best thing ever.
10:14That's my drunk trait.
10:16My TikTok right now is Disney Cruises.
10:18Don't plan on going on one.
10:20I did go on one when I was younger, but I'm like fascinated by the culture.
10:24Disney Cruise, especially the adult Disney Cruise.
10:27Okay.
10:30I'm gonna put them in for five more seconds and I think I'll be done.
10:35They're floating.
10:36They look golden and delicious.
10:40Yay.
10:42I hope they're good.
10:46And with that, we have this gorgeous chicken lumpia.
10:52I'm very excited.
10:53I've been working up an appetite doing this, so let's see how they are.
11:01Hot.
11:02They're hot.
11:04So good.
11:06So good.
11:08Honestly, it was really good with the Paloma.
11:10I was worried about it, but they're a perfect match.
11:12Love it.
11:14That was so much fun.
11:16Thank you guys for joining me.
11:17I hope you enjoyed watching me make this gorgeous lumpia and a Paloma.
11:21And I hope you guys have a great day and you should try it at home.
11:23Bye.
