00:00Damn! Don't superglue my brain to my frontal.
00:04That ain't in the middle. That's off-center.
00:06It gotta look like I got superpowers, b****.
00:15Hello?
00:16What's up, Benny the Parish, your girl Megan Thee Stallion,
00:18a.k.a. The Hot Girl Coach.
00:19And right now, I'm getting ready for the Met Gala,
00:21a.k.a. The Met Gala.
00:22Come get ready with me.
00:27Hello?
00:28Hello.
00:29Hello.
00:30Hello.
00:31We're making it happen.
00:32Team Stallion.
00:37Cheese.
00:42This is Tav on the nails.
00:44Right now, she is making me some lace from scratch.
00:47No sequence was harmed in the making of this.
00:50I don't assume.
00:51No stencils either.
00:52Hand painted.
00:53This is Diana, and she is on the beat, as usual.
00:58She get me together all the time, make me look like a motherfucking painting.
01:02This is Kellan, my hairstylist slash pain in the butt.
01:07And I'm Megan Thee Stallion, the rapper.
01:09Yes.
01:18So I love Josephine Baker, and I saw a reference of her, like, doing this really pretty pose with this sick-ass ponytail.
01:25Shout out to Josephine.
01:26I feel like she's an absolute rule breaker, risk taker.
01:29Josephine Baker with a little bit of Stallion.
01:31So Josephine Thee Stallion, that's what we're doing today.
01:33We added a little extra hair to the pony.
01:35A whole nother bundle.
01:36A whole nother bundle.
01:37I know my girl will be proud.
01:38I really feel like this year is special because of what they're paying homage to.
01:45The tailoring black style.
01:46I feel like we are reclaiming our power.
01:49Like, what dandyism started as and how we took over it and just showed the world what kind of trendsetters we are today.
01:55I just feel like that's like a testament to how much influence the black community has on fashion, entertainment.
02:00Just all the things that make everybody cute.
02:02I knew you was about to drop that.
02:03I feel like Dapper Dan is a great example of dandyism.
02:06Somebody that I know personally is a good example of dandyism is Janelle Monae.
02:09So beautiful.
02:10So strong.
02:11So tough.
02:12Just a badass.
02:13And for real, like, I feel like he always just put it on.
02:15And I'm like, you know what?
02:16Let me, let me step into my fashion bag and put it on too.
02:20Yeah, we just trendsetters, baby.
02:21That's what this Met Gala is about.
02:23How black people is trendsetters.
02:24That's what we do.
02:25I'm excited to go up there and show my hair, my nails, my glam, my makeup, my body in this dress.
02:32Baby, I'm finna come up there looking beautiful.
02:34That's what I'm excited about.
02:35I'm excited for people to see me.
02:36When I do my music, I do music because I like to rap.
02:39Everybody that rap got a little cockiness about they self.
02:42Going to the Met, like, I'm definitely going in here hoping that I look my best.
02:45I'm pretty sure everybody's team got them looking beautiful today.
02:48Y'all better come in here stepping.
02:49Especially if you know what the theme is, babe.
02:51I feel like everybody gonna have it on today.
02:55So the nails look like my dress.
02:59So it's like lace and a lot of sequins and a lot of jewels.
03:03My dress actually has like, what they say, 73,000 crystals on it.
03:08And it took like 690 hours to put together.
03:12Yeah, so today my nails are inspired by my very intricate dress.
03:16So we have Toph actually speed racing.
03:20And she is doing 69 hours worth of work in about one hour.
03:30Where are we?
03:32That's the magic.
03:34Oh my God.
03:38Well, don't you look handsome.
03:40Forget me.
03:41That's how you look.
03:43Unbelievable.
03:44My whole career, I have always admired women who are strong, talented, opinionated.
03:53I like opinionated.
03:55And also people who actually give back.
03:58Meg is all of that.
04:00And I think she is a force of nature.
04:03Oh.
04:04And to me, what could be better for me as a designer to see my designs come to life on a woman like Meg?
04:15We were talking about American black female dandies.
04:20So we started looking and we were like, you look at these pictures of Josephine Baker.
04:25Back in the twenties, back in the thirties, you get to Eartha Kitt in the fifties and the sixties.
04:30And these women knew themselves.
04:32They broke the rules.
04:33And to me, she is today's answer to that.
04:37So we really, I mean, this hair is beyond genius.
04:42And it is definitely an homage to fabulous moments that we saw Josephine Baker in Paris doing something similar.
04:49This is around the world.
04:51This garment was made.
04:52Italy, India, New York, custom made.
04:55You know, it's a lot of people.
04:57When they say it takes a village, this doesn't take a village.
05:00This takes a city.
05:01Is the booth too much?
05:02No.
05:04No.
05:05Major.
05:06I mean, major.
05:07The shiniest thing on the carpet, babe.
05:09You are the shiniest thing on the carpet.
05:11I'm pretty sure I will be.
05:12This is the backdrop.
05:13There's more to come.
05:14Oh, yeah.
05:15Y'all know about the polar bear.
05:16Yeah, there's a polar bear moment happening.
05:18Yeah.
05:19So this is just the beginning.
05:21I feel like even though my outfit is beautiful, my hair is beautiful, my nails are beautiful,
05:25my makeup is beautiful, the moment is beautiful.
05:27I feel like the clothes and the glam are not wearing me.
05:30Like, I'm wearing the clothes.
05:32I feel good on the inside and hopefully that's showing on the outside.
05:36I feel like my confidence is pulling it all together.
05:39The yarn VIZatra
05:44This whole process took like three months.
05:46We had a fitting two months ago, approving fabrics.
05:50And we had a neck fitting a couple of days ago here in New York and saw the crystals that will apply to the dress that she's
05:55wearing on the carpet, and it was brilliant.
05:57I have no bodily functions in this dress.
06:02One arm, or is the other arm?
06:05Here.
06:06Here, almost there.
06:07You want to come here on this side?
06:09Sure.
06:09Yeah.
06:10Three, two, one.
06:11Beautiful.
06:12That pose is great.
06:13This type of thing, you know when you know.
06:14You know, doing this for, like, 30-something years,
06:17there's a certain sort of magic that comes over the room,
06:19and that magic came over the room.
06:20She was adored in 70,000 recrystals done on white lace,
06:23which is incredible, and just the fit of it, you know.
06:26You just knew it.
06:27Just everyone in the room just gasped.
06:29You know, like, everyone in the world will gasp
06:31when they see her step on the carpet tonight.
06:43All right, Vanity Fair.
06:44I'm about to head to the carpet.
06:46Thank y'all. Bye.
06:53We'll see you next time.
06:55We'll see you next time.
06:56Bye.
06:56There we go.
06:57We'll see you next time.
06:58Bye.
06:59Bye.
07:00Bye.
07:01Bye.
07:02Bye.
