00:00Hi!
00:00Hi!
00:01How are you?
00:02Pandora!
00:03Pandora!
00:03What you need to do is get control of Pandora.
00:07If dogs go wild...
00:10They are absolutely nuts.
00:12Is the dog around?
00:15I can't control them.
00:17Come on now, big boy.
00:18Nathan thinks he can read.
00:19Surely he can.
00:20He can't.
00:21He's a dog.
00:22Of course he can.
00:22And get up.
00:23Oh, here we go.
00:24No, get down.
00:25To no good.
00:26It's only me now, is it?
00:28I'm honoured.
00:28Or down.
00:29Oh, no.
00:31And dirty.
00:32He loves a big, large crap.
00:36Tank likes to rub his boy parts.
00:39What is going on with you, Tank?
00:41When Pops...
00:42I wonder what we're going to learn today.
00:44...need to be schooled.
00:46Three, two, one, and sit.
00:48Fantastic.
00:49Look at that.
00:50Or if your pooch...
00:52He's dropped one.
00:53He got a whiff.
00:53...has a personal problem.
00:55Some dogs have bacterias that are gas-producing.
00:59Just in case.
01:01One man...
01:02Hey, look at that.
01:04...will give it his all.
01:06Jack!
01:06Oi!
01:07Leave it.
01:08And get answers...
01:09I think I might know what's going on.
01:11And it's not what you think.
01:12...to any doggy dilemma.
01:15Yeah, that's next level, isn't it?
01:20This week...
01:22A four-pack...
01:23No!
01:24For God's sake!
01:25...of jealous monsters...
01:28Get home, fly.
01:29Oh, yeah.
01:29...could get their mum evicted.
01:31No, stop!
01:32Unless you can sort it out.
01:33I'm afraid she's going to be homeless.
01:35A real screamer...
01:38I thought somebody was being strangled.
01:41Driving a couple apart...
01:42I tend to walk behind them.
01:44I don't want to get involved.
01:45I hate you for walking off and leaving me.
01:48And Graham discovers...
01:50The first groom is so important.
01:52How to prep your pup for the groomers.
01:55I'm going to slowly touch her body.
01:57And what to do about worrying lumps.
02:00Hello, Basil.
02:01So it does feel quite firm.
02:03It feels quite hard.
02:04We're hoping for the best now.
02:06Yeah, fingers crossed.
02:12There you go.
02:14You know, I absolutely love dogs.
02:17And I'm very lucky because I get to do something every day
02:20that I'm really passionate about.
02:23And you know what they say, choose a job you love
02:25and you never have to work a day in your life, do you?
02:29And someone who has that in droves is Graham's first case in Melksham, Wiltshire.
02:34Kish, jump.
02:36Good girl.
02:37There we go.
02:38Mwah.
02:38Where Marie shares her home with an adorable Pekingese four pack.
02:43Mwah.
02:45There's Roscoe, Peewee, Wurzel and Kish.
02:50My daughter surprised me with Kish, the first one.
02:53And it kind of just snowballed.
02:59Her furry foursome even join her at the office.
03:03I am a dog groomer.
03:04I've had my own business for 20 years this year.
03:08I just love dogs.
03:11Dogs are my life.
03:12All right.
03:14Yeah.
03:14This should be doggy heaven.
03:16Oh, Kish.
03:17But when a four-legged client pops in...
03:20Hiya.
03:21Hello, Marie.
03:22...it turns to...
03:25...doggy hell.
03:30Be in a bit.
03:34No.
03:35I've had enough.
03:36Be quiet.
03:39When the customers actually come through the door.
03:41There we go.
03:43They just literally bark.
03:46No.
03:47For God's sake.
03:48Pack it in.
03:49And it's very difficult when you've got a customer's dog
03:51either in your arms or trying to lead it to the table.
03:53They're fighting and I've got to somehow intervene.
03:57Hey, hey, hey.
03:58No.
03:59For God's sake.
04:02Just be quiet.
04:06You're a good boy.
04:10Some of the dogs come in trembling because they kick off.
04:16Lee looks terrified, to be honest.
04:19She's not happy to be in the same room as them, definitely.
04:24Sorry about the noise and the barking.
04:26Can't wait to get out of here now, can you?
04:29Marie's hoping for a miracle.
04:31I like doggy ma'am in there.
04:33Can Graham be her saviour?
04:35Come on.
04:36Good boy.
04:37Good boy.
04:39Hello.
04:40Hiya.
04:41Welcome.
04:42Well, thank you very much.
04:43It's quite a welcome.
04:44How come they're in separate pans then?
04:46Because Kish and Roscoe will attack either each other or the others.
04:52Really?
04:52You never know who's going to kick off first.
04:54It sounds like your mum now.
04:56Hello.
04:57Hi.
04:57It's your mum.
04:58Yeah.
04:59Yes, your mum.
05:02There you go.
05:03Hello.
05:04He's a pretty boy, isn't he?
05:06Do you get this every time then?
05:08Yeah.
05:08Yeah.
05:09It's quite intense.
05:11OK, thanks ever so much.
05:13That's all right.
05:13Nice to meet you.
05:16That was a bit intense, really.
05:18Yeah.
05:19I shout at them and I don't like shouting at them.
05:21And I've always been renowned and other groomers have sent difficult dogs to me over the years.
05:25Really?
05:26Because I've always had the patience with them.
05:28Right.
05:29That's funny.
05:30So why can't I control my own?
05:32At this point, I can't take on new people.
05:36Because if I was a new customer coming into this, I wouldn't be bringing my dog back.
05:41But a business with no new customers potentially is a dying business.
05:45I agree.
05:45And I'm not quite sure where to go with it.
05:48Before Graham figures out how to turn things round at work, he wants to head back to Marie's
05:55to give everyone a chance to cool off.
05:58Blimey.
05:59Blimey.
05:59OK.
06:01Sorry.
06:02Oh, no.
06:02Stop.
06:03Take him in.
06:04Hey, come on you lot.
06:06Come on.
06:06Moving swiftly on.
06:08No.
06:10Blimey.
06:11They kind of disgraced themselves there on that walk, didn't they?
06:14As always.
06:15Really?
06:16So as well as there being a problem in the salon, there's obviously a problem on walks.
06:21Any time those four dogs see any dog, it seems, they're kicking off.
06:25This is my home, just down here.
06:27Oh, the caravan.
06:28Yeah.
06:28OK.
06:29Yeah.
06:30Come on then.
06:32Oh.
06:32Oh, God.
06:33There's Gary, the landowner.
06:36He doesn't like the dogs barking on sight.
06:38Hiya.
06:39Hiya.
06:39Hello.
06:40Are you all right?
06:41Hello.
06:41How are you?
06:42Very well, thank you.
06:44Oh, I'm flying.
06:44No, no.
06:45No.
06:47Come on.
06:48No.
06:49No.
06:50Right.
06:51Yeah, you take him in.
06:52I'll see you in a second, Marie, yeah?
06:54Come on, yeah.
06:55They're pretty barky, these dogs.
06:56Very.
06:57Problem is, is it's constant.
06:59We get a fair few complaints.
07:01We have kind of said that, really, unless you can sort it out, then I'm afraid she's
07:06going to be homeless.
07:06So it's been very disruptive.
07:08Very.
07:09Yeah.
07:10Very.
07:10Oh, dear.
07:10Right, all right.
07:11No pressure there.
07:12I'll do my best.
07:13All right.
07:14Thank you very much.
07:14Cheers, mate.
07:15Enjoy your walk.
07:15Nice to meet you.
07:16And if Gary's forced to give Marie and her four-pack marching orders.
07:21Hiya.
07:21Hello.
07:22Hello.
07:22This family could be out of options.
07:25So, it seems like every walk you take is a step nearer to eviction, potentially.
07:31Yeah.
07:32It's scary.
07:33They are the reason I am living in the Garavan.
07:36Oh, really?
07:36Tell me about that.
07:37Two years ago, I slipped a disc.
07:40I was unable to work.
07:42So, obviously, financially, it just got to a point where I couldn't afford a private rental.
07:48Right.
07:48Right.
07:49The council wouldn't take a second look at it.
07:52Their line is that you'd have to go into a hostel for up to nine months anyway.
07:56I thought they had the dogs.
07:56And you can't take dogs.
07:58And the only thing I could think was, what about a caravan?
08:01Getting rid of the dogs was never an option.
08:03Never an option.
08:04I'd never part with them.
08:06Well, you'll see why.
08:07You look at them now, look.
08:07I know.
08:08They're so adorable and angelic when there's no other dogs around.
08:11Yeah.
08:12Yeah.
08:14I think I've seen that whole picture now.
08:16She's under threat of eviction because of these dogs that she loves so much after everything
08:22she's been through.
08:23Good boy.
08:24It's affecting her life in every way you could imagine.
08:28I'll do my best.
08:30But for dogs, it's not going to be easy.
08:33But before Graham can stop Marie getting evicted, he's got to stop her four fur babies destroying
08:40her business.
08:42Can he turn these green-eyed monsters into perfect workmates?
08:51Graham solving dog owners' dilemmas from worrying lumps.
08:54So it does feel quite firm.
08:57To first-time nerves at the salon.
08:59I'm going to leave her to smell first.
09:00And then slowly.
09:02So she feels a vibration.
09:03She feels a vibration.
09:05And meets noisy gremlin Gizmo.
09:08Is that right?
09:09It's a bit vocal, this one.
09:10Whose blood-curdling cries are driving a couple apart.
09:15I need to walk off and I'm left on my own with a screaming dog.
09:19I hate you.
09:27Graham's in Wiltshire with dog groomer Marie.
09:30Hiya.
09:31Who takes her beloved four-pack to work.
09:34No!
09:35For God's sake.
09:36But them losing it at customers could see her losing her business.
09:41Lee looks terrified.
09:42She's not happy.
09:44And her home.
09:45Unless you can sort it out.
09:47Then I'm afraid she's going to be homeless.
09:49It's scary, but I'd never part with them.
09:51Marie's refusing to give up on her beloved four-pack.
09:55But Graham believes the solution is closer to home than she thinks.
09:58Why do you think they react the way they do?
10:01It's actually been pointed out to me by a couple of friends.
10:04Are they protecting you?
10:05Oh, yeah.
10:06I've got a better one for you.
10:08OK.
10:09I think what you're seeing is not dogs who are being protective.
10:11You've got four dogs who are sort of furiously jealous.
10:14So a dog comes in, you pick the dog up, right?
10:17You talk to him, you put him on the table.
10:19So those customer dogs are getting loads of attention.
10:22And it's the moments when they get attention that these kick off.
10:26Oh.
10:27They get ignored.
10:28Or they get told off.
10:29Or they get told off.
10:30They just need to understand that when dogs are about,
10:34Mummy's still losing it.
10:35It makes, yeah, total sense.
10:38The jealousy side of it has kind of shocked me.
10:41But it is only once it's pointed out to you that you actually
10:44kind of realise how much I, I guess, reward that bad behaviour by shouting.
10:53And they're probably confused.
10:55And it's exactly this confusion Graham wants to fix
10:59by showing Marie's four pack, they will get her love and attention,
11:03but only if they're good.
11:05So, I've got one of your customers coming.
11:07If at any point they kick off, we ignore them.
11:10That's the golden rule.
11:11OK.
11:11When they stop, we tell them,
11:14good girl, good boy and all that, and use the name.
11:16OK.
11:17Will Graham's theory work?
11:19Aha.
11:20In practice?
11:21Right, come on, Kizzy.
11:24Come on, Sue.
11:26Hello.
11:28As soon as Kizzy's in Marie's arms, they kick off.
11:34But instead of giving them what for,
11:39Marie must wait for the calm.
11:44Good girl, you stopped.
11:45Only then...
11:47Good girl.
11:48...can she show them...
11:49You've been very good.
11:51...the love.
11:51Well done.
11:52Lovely.
11:54Except, I'd swap the like,
11:56yay, woo, good girl, for like, good girl.
11:58Good boy.
11:59Oh, this is nice.
12:00OK, so totally...
12:01Which when you think about it, it's exactly what you do.
12:03With the customer's dogs.
12:04I am going to suggest we recreate what happens at the end of the session.
12:08Take her back to her owner.
12:10Oh, there we go.
12:12It seems Marie's precious pack are fast learners.
12:15They are, dogs are being good.
12:17Realising they don't have to compete for mum's attention...
12:20There we go.
12:21..has left them...
12:22Well done, you didn't bark.
12:25..lost for words.
12:27Magic, so you've just given the dog to the owner,
12:30not peep out of them.
12:32Yeah.
12:32Can you do that first?
12:33Yeah, I'm kind of speechless, really.
12:34OK.
12:35Well, we're definitely on the right track.
12:36In a good way, yeah.
12:37The key to success, repetition.
12:40This time, Graham's taking a back seat.
12:42Can Marie manage solo?
12:44I think we need to push this a bit more.
12:46With one of their cutest and fiercest rivals.
12:50The dog is Trixie.
12:52Oh.
12:53Joyous.
12:54OK.
12:55Yeah.
12:55Are they likely to react to Trixie?
12:57I did the other week.
12:58They went absolutely mental.
13:00All right.
13:01Not only will Trixie be a tougher challenge,
13:04Graham wants Marie to lavish more attention on her
13:06at the grooming table.
13:08I want you to do it now, without walking over there.
13:10Keep it calm, like you have been.
13:12Last tip, as you look round, you can smile at them.
13:14OK.
13:15They read faces.
13:17It's all about sending signals out to four dogs all at once,
13:20whilst keeping hold of the face.
13:21Wow.
13:22OK.
13:22I knew it was me that needed the training.
13:26For Marie, it's the ultimate test.
13:29Hiya.
13:30Come on, Trixie.
13:31Come on, Trix.
13:33Come on.
13:37There we go.
13:40On the table.
13:47Good girl, Kish.
13:49There we go.
13:50Good boy, Wizzle.
13:52Well done.
13:53Marie can get on with the job in hand.
13:55There we go.
13:59So we're on a winner then.
14:01Definitely.
14:02That's amazing.
14:03Look how quiet they are now.
14:05They love it when you praise them.
14:07And I think the more you do this, you're on a winner.
14:10Blown away.
14:11I just can't believe the difference in them already.
14:14If they're happy, I'm happy.
14:15Hopefully, I'll be able to take on new customers now.
14:19But Marie can't count her chickens yet.
14:21No.
14:22Graham still needs to crack this four-pack's very bad behaviour.
14:26Oh, no, stop.
14:27Outside the workplace.
14:29I need to come back, because this issue of the dogs
14:31reacting aggressively to other dogs.
14:33Oi!
14:33Pack him in!
14:35Really means that, you know, there's still that threat of eviction.
14:43Although Graham's devoted his career
14:45to answering the calls of desperate dog owners.
14:48Right.
14:48Let's see what we've got here then.
14:50Hi, Graham.
14:50They also reach out.
14:52Our question to you is how do we groom him
14:55without causing him any pain?
14:57Good question.
14:57With a whole host of questions
14:59completely unrelated to bad behaviour.
15:02He has really smelly bottom burps.
15:04Oh, that's very genteel.
15:06To help, he's gathered a team of professionals.
15:09Working in veterinary medicine.
15:10Perfect.
15:11All nice and quiet.
15:12Grooming.
15:13He actually has a beautiful coat.
15:15And pet nutrition.
15:16I just want to watch how he's going to eat this.
15:19Well, I don't know what's in the water this week,
15:20but loads of questions coming in about grooming.
15:23An area Graham is well versed in, having just spent a day with groomer Marie.
15:28One that stood out to me was this one.
15:31Hi, Graham.
15:32We're the Umessi family.
15:33I'm Mum Victoria.
15:34I'm Puppy.
15:36I'm Bertie.
15:37Hello, Ruth.
15:38Hi.
15:39This is our puppy, Truffle.
15:40Very good.
15:41She's due to have her first groom and we'd love to find out how to make it as stress-free
15:44as possible.
15:45Well, that's a brilliant question because a puppy's first groom is so important.
15:49It's going to leave a lasting impression.
15:51And a bad first groom can put off dogs for life.
15:56So Graham's brought Truffle and Mum Victoria to Godalming to meet award-winning groomer,
16:02Kostin Stoyker, who knows how to make sure a puppy's first doggy salon trip is a good one.
16:08Hello.
16:09Oh, lovely.
16:11Hello.
16:12Hiya.
16:12Hi, Victoria.
16:13Hi.
16:14So we have here Truffle.
16:18The first groom is so important for them.
16:21The earlier they come, the more calmer they appear.
16:25We notice, like, dogs that come, like, nine, ten months, they're way more stressed than puppies.
16:31So how old is Truffle?
16:32So she's 13 weeks.
16:3413 weeks.
16:34So clearly, though, she can go upside down.
16:37So I always recommend, once they have the last vaccination, they have to start grooming straight away.
16:43Kostin's first tip is a simple one.
16:45The sooner you take your pup to the groomers, the easier it becomes.
16:49But only after they've had their second jabs, usually between 10 and 12 weeks old.
16:54You're a buffer by now.
16:55I haven't actually.
16:56You haven't.
16:57No.
16:57We've been brushing her quite a bit.
16:59Amazing.
16:59That's so important.
17:00Brushing can't be this really important.
17:02Yeah.
17:02So it's so important handling at home.
17:04But brushing is not the only thing you can do at home to prepare your pup.
17:08I'm going to ask to use electric toothbrush.
17:11OK.
17:13He's desensitised the puppy from the clippers.
17:17Once your puppy is comfortable with the sound and sensation of a toothbrush...
17:21This is like your husband's shaver.
17:24Yeah.
17:25You can move on to something closer to a groomers' clippers.
17:29I'm going to leave her to smell first.
17:32And then slowly try to touch her body.
17:35Oh, I see.
17:37So she feels a vibration.
17:38She feels a vibration.
17:39And I always say, good girl.
17:45So how do we introduce scissors to her?
17:47Again, put my hands so I don't...
17:49Here.
17:50Yeah.
17:50What's that?
17:51Good girl.
17:53So do these things at home.
17:54And then when you get your puppy to the groomer, the puppy's going, hiya.
17:57Exactly.
17:58With Truffle familiar with some of the sights, smells and feelings of a groom, it's time for the first trim.
18:05So they're not left feeling overwhelmed.
18:08It's still baby steps.
18:10Presumably, because today is the first groom.
18:12Yes, yes.
18:13You're just going to do a little bit of a token thing.
18:14My goal is always to clip some of the coat.
18:17But that depends how the dogs behave.
18:20On a first groom, it's not about giving your pup a full makeover.
18:24Just tidying the bits that need a trim.
18:27In Truffle's case, her paws.
18:29So we go and do a face to mummy.
18:31Like that.
18:33We'll see how she reacts.
18:35The trimmer's on her pads.
18:37Sometimes they can be really ticklish.
18:40Good girl.
18:44Good girl.
18:48So we just cut it.
18:52Good girl.
18:53Good girl.
18:56That's in my face.
18:57You've done that before.
18:58I know.
19:00We're just going to lift the hair from the floor.
19:02So when she goes outside and is wet and muddy, it doesn't bring all the mud and water into the
19:06house.
19:07Because they'll fit there like sponges.
19:09And that's not the only area of their feet that Costin believes should be given attention.
19:14I always recommend to everyone, bring them for nail clipping to us.
19:17Because you must have trimmed tens of thousands of nails in your time.
19:22Yes.
19:22If they bleed, it's a big no because they're going to hate it all their life.
19:27We have dogs that we have to have like three people holding the dog.
19:30We don't want her.
19:31Yeah.
19:34Good girl.
19:35Well done.
19:37Perfect.
19:38So really, you're taking nothing off her.
19:40Just the tips.
19:41Yes.
19:41Getting her used to it.
19:42And she's a really good girl.
19:44She's really good girl.
19:45Well done, Chuffle.
19:47I think you've got a good one.
19:48I hope so.
19:49Yeah.
19:50Well, thank you, Costin.
19:51My pleasure.
19:51Thank you so much.
19:52Powerfully we'll see you soon in the salon.
19:53Yeah, definitely.
19:54Yeah.
19:55When it comes to a pup's first groom, the golden rule is less is more, creating a positive
20:01experience they want to enjoy again and again.
20:05With Truffle looking tip top, Graham's got the bug for glamour.
20:11So he's travelled 250 miles north to the rural surrounds of Doncaster.
20:17Well, heck, Doncaster's posh, isn't it?
20:20Hey.
20:21To a rather romantic setting.
20:25Morning.
20:27Oh, look, that's nice, isn't it?
20:30It's a lovely thing to get a dog together as a couple.
20:33It brings you together and it gives you a chance to come out to places like this and
20:38just really enjoy it.
20:45what the heck is that?
20:47Come on!
20:48Come on!
20:49Come on!
20:51Come on!
20:53Come on!
20:56Hey!
20:59That'd be my dog, won't it?
21:01I thought somebody was being strangled.
21:03Hello!
21:05Hello!
21:05Hello!
21:06Hello!
21:07Morning!
21:08Morning!
21:10Are you, by any chance, Sarah and Dean?
21:12Yes, we are.
21:13I thought you might be.
21:14Gizmo, hello.
21:15That's a heck of a noisy bit, isn't it?
21:17Just a bit, yeah.
21:19Shall we go for a walk then?
21:21Yep.
21:21Go on then.
21:22Nice place there.
21:23There's a lot of dogs, isn't there?
21:24There is a lot of dogs.
21:27No giz.
21:28Come on.
21:31Oh, there we go.
21:35Come on.
21:35Move it swiftly on.
21:37Oh dear.
21:42He's a bit vocal, this one.
21:43No giz.
21:45No giz.
21:48No giz.
21:49No giz.
21:49No giz.
21:50No giz.
21:51Sarah and Dean have been together seven years, and with Dean's children having flown the
21:55nest, they decided to introduce a new addition, their own little fur baby.
22:00No giz.
22:01No giz.
22:02No giz.
22:02No giz.
22:03No giz.
22:03No giz.
22:05No giz.
22:05No giz.
22:05No giz.
22:07No giz.
22:10No giz.
22:11No giz.
22:13No giz.
22:15No giz.
22:15No giz.
22:16No giz.
22:18No giz.
22:18No giz.
22:19No giz.
22:20No giz.
22:21Sarah does everything she can to show she's doing her best.
22:25I've got my vest on, training, lead on.
22:29I don't want people thinking, oh look at her with that dog, she's not doing anything.
22:34Calm down.
22:35No giz.
22:36No giz.
22:37No giz.
22:39No giz.
22:39No giz.
22:40No giz.
22:42No giz.
22:42No giz.
22:44No giz.
22:47No giz.
22:48No giz.
22:49No giz.
22:49No giz.
22:50No giz.
22:50What are you doing back there Dean?
22:52I swear I usually walk.
22:54Walk behind.
22:55Yeah.
22:55I have nothing to do with them.
22:56yeah I refuse to walk him the screaming so embarrassing I tend to walk behind
23:04him when I get involved I need walk off and I'm left on my own with a screaming
23:09dog I hate you and hate is a strong word but I hate you for walking off and
23:15leaving me walking with gizmo is no scream for the couple how about sitting
23:22down for some quality time
23:24I'll take him away with Dean unable to bear the embarrassment Graham can delve deeper
23:51so I noticed Dean was hanging back on the wall yeah he'll just disappear it just
23:58riles him he just gets embarrassed frustrated how does that make you feel lonely
24:04stuck with your problem dog on your own yeah does Dean walk him then no I have to
24:10beg him to come right because obviously stressful yeah yeah because it's just
24:22stressful and I feel like it's it's me and feel like a failure is there as a dog mom
24:30yeah yeah fail yeah I just can't go anywhere in it just makes your world a
24:36little bit smaller it looks as though gizmo sort of coming between you a bit as
24:40well and is he causing a rift yeah cuz I I'm sort of quite patient I'm like give him
24:46time and he and I'm quite try not to be hard with him so I'm the softer one
24:52whereas then he'll say you're not hard enough on him you know we need to be
24:56stronger and then we argue when right I better catch up with Dean see how he's
25:01getting on
25:09I see you walking off and taking it with you what you thinking at that moment
25:14just get me out of there yeah me blood's boiling is it Sarah thinks Sarah thinks you
25:22think that she's too soft yeah calm down you're like choking cheese you would say
25:28yeah what do you make of this I have his best oh you won't catch me we're one of
25:35them now so you're sort of blending into the background go yeah it's not with me
25:39yeah yes how do you think that makes her feel she don't like you no no not
25:49really I think it's just too much for Dean and he can't control it so that's
25:55making him frustrated and but then of course the effect that has on Sarah it's
26:01visibly upsetting we've got a dog here who who's literally splitting them apart
26:07coming up can Graham stop no a marauding pack from making their own a
26:14homeless now they're all going now listening to your lungs Graham discovers
26:20what to do so it does feel quite firm about concerning lumps feels quite hard
26:25doesn't it and can he bring this screamers no parents sorry you don't take
26:33it away back together it's a real screamer in Doncaster but not everyone's enjoying it
26:45loudmouth gizmos driving an ear-splitting wedge between Sarah and Dean the screaming so it buries
26:54for Graham the solution to their issues is loud and clear watching his behavior for me the roadblock
27:02actually is you guys and how you react you're both embarrassed I think yeah totally really that's the
27:08crux of it your comfort blanket is the hive is and your comfort blanket Dean is 100 meters that way
27:16somewhere you know so I think we might lose your high vis so gone is your high well yeah but
27:22gone's
27:23your comfort blanket and I'm not gonna let you run away Dean so and that way we'll hopefully bring
27:28you back together again is that fair enough yeah yeah if he's got the patience let's hope my patience
27:38for the plan to work this divided couple will need to stick together how are you feeling now there and
27:48not run in the other direction when gizmo goes off on one instead they need to praise their little
27:57screamer for keeping stone so here's how it works we've got a little dog over there he's seen it at
28:04the
28:04moment at least he's being good so I think we take a few steps forward if he starts to scream
28:09and all
28:09the rest of it we can tell him no just nice and calm but very clear no when he calms
28:15down we then tell
28:17him yeah good boy that's very nice but not before he calms down yeah okay yeah right can Sarah stand
28:25firm without her high vis he's pulling a little bit but we can live with that and will Dean stick
28:33by
28:34her side what do you think you should be doing now good boy good boy lovely bit further maybe this
28:42time
28:46good boy Sarah and Dean seem to be pulling together it's all right you're not taken away but they must
29:03stand
29:03united until gizmo gets it out of his system this is awkward but I'm gonna do nothing making it loud
29:13and clear his noise won't be tolerated they stopped now only yeah well so far so good but most of
29:22the
29:22point I'm more pleased about the way Sarah and Dean are now acting together they do look like a thing
29:29they're both doing the same thing at the same time that's so important now gizmo understands
29:34mum and dad don't like him kicking off Graham thinks he's ready for the next step if you feel
29:40confident to do it I think you could say hello to this dog now you know yeah say hello nicely
29:46good boy giz boy I love the fact that he keeps looking at you as if to say is this
29:54okay look at
29:54this mom it's great I've got to say hello to a dog and everything yeah oh he's having a great
30:00time
30:02I'm staying by his side so it felt all right to be fair we just uh little baby steps and
30:10then I'll be
30:12more I do it more I get used to it proud of you now Graham wants them to attempt something
30:19impossible only hours ago settle down in the cafe without causing a public disturbance earlier gizmo
30:28screaming was so intense it sent Dean packing and Sarah left hanging can he keep calm enough around
30:38other dogs for the couple to enjoy an alfresco afternoon tea together there we go
30:44good morning Yorkshire afternoon tea thank you very much thank you we've done well haven't we yeah he's done fabulous
30:56what a difference to lunchtime eh yeah what sort of things you think you'll be able to do now that
31:02you couldn't go for a pint go for a pint
31:05yeah come here again not embarrassed relaxed and magic happy put it there well done thank you very
31:14much sir you've both done a great job thank you very much together as a team well yeah yeah well
31:19we're
31:19together magic promise you yeah giz has surprised me today he's uh done really well this is just gonna
31:29keep bringing us all closer together and we're gonna have more days out from the moment they started
31:35to work together and sort of resolved to just get over that embarrassment they looked like a couple
31:40again that rubbed off on gizmo well the rest of it as they said this history magic with harmony hopefully
31:49restored Graham's quest to keep the nation's dogs happy and healthy continues next on his list
31:56christine from manchester and her seven-year-old beagle basil um is starting to develop lumps as
32:03he's getting a bit older he's got one quite biggish one on his side and some smaller ones on his
32:08chest
32:08i just wondered whether you can shed any light on on lumps and um whether or not they can become
32:14cancerous
32:15i'm hoping that we can get basil and christine a little bit of reassurance
32:23but first he wants to meet them hi nice to meet you oh yes nice to meet you hello and
32:30basil hello
32:31basil hello you're lovely you how are you well it's not often you get this is it hey so why'd
32:39you call
32:39in basil then oh basil brush is he that was a brush very much so so that lump at the
32:47side there you're
32:48obviously concerned about that we are yeah okay so i'd like you to meet me she's a really good vet
32:54perfect oh and if you grab a seat here because it's quite tight in there and then we'll let you
32:59know how we get on okay all right okay great thank you as well as being a vet hey friends
33:05may shares her
33:06passion for dog health on social media there are a few things that you can do at home where she
33:11provides tips and advice to millions of viewers and knows when to be worried about lumps and bumps
33:17this is the main lump that you're worried about check your neck you just to check for any swollen glands
33:25so none there i can all have a body massage isn't it doesn't
33:32it's got a few smaller ones yeah so one two and three small ones and this is the big one
33:40okay
33:42so it does feel quite firm the good news is there's a simple test a vet can do to highlight
33:49any areas of
33:49concern based on what i can feel we can definitely do a sample today i'll get the needles now and
33:57it
33:57gives almost instant results give him lots of cuddles reassuring by taking samples from the lump
34:06and adding various dyes may can get a clearer picture of what's going on internally it's nice
34:13to actually see something and not just be told yeah she's looking to see if any of the dyes color
34:19the
34:19cells how are you feeling then obviously a bit worried i mean i fingers crossed and you know it's nothing
34:25to
34:26worry about but you just never know with lumps too we're hoping for the best out yeah fingers crossed
34:34so would you like to have a look and see what's under the microscope oh yeah
34:38yeah yeah so these are your little fat droplets oh i see and they're colorless in the center
34:45yes which is quite characteristic of a fatty lump so if they were colored that would suggest that some
34:53kind of more sinister cells were in there is that right yes if they have like a nucleus that stained
34:59purple that means it could be other things well that's encouraging so based on how it looks and how
35:06it feels you know it's most likely a fatty lump okay which is good that's good that's good and what
35:11they
35:12found is that the older the dog gets the more likely that they can get a fatty lump as well
35:17as if they
35:17are overweight it's always good to keep your dog nice and lean makes sense to have a nice good diet
35:23not too rich in fats but even if it's good news it's important to keep an eye out for any
35:29changes
35:30which is something you can do at home with a widely available tool we have calipers like these
35:36so to measure sort of like the height and then measure the um with this side as well and keep
35:42a diary
35:42of it and the general rule of thumb is if it's there for up to a month after that month
35:48definitely
35:48get in touch with your vets if we come to you and go look it was this number of centimeters
35:53last month
35:53and now it's this number of centimeters does that give you some information to go on yeah there'll be
35:58a good you know indication whether we should pursue testing sooner rather than later so the indications
36:05today are that it doesn't look quite cancer well that's good we're all happy about that obviously
36:10we want you to have a long happy healthy life thank you for your help it's been really appreciated
36:15brilliant magic so remember lumps and bumps are all part of getting older oh good news but you need
36:22to remain vigilant and see a vet if you're concerned the more information you can give the better
36:31still to come graham may have got this jealous pack good girl kiss
36:38yes on the right path at work that's amazing but if he can't stop them kicking off when they clock
36:44off no they could all be sent packing unless he can sort it out i'm afraid she's gonna be homeless
36:53now they're all going
36:58before graham can put his dog whispering boots to bed for the weekend he's headed back to wiltshire
37:04no to help marie whose four little angels turn into devils at the very sight of others you've got
37:11four dogs who are sort of furiously jealous with jealousy driving their rage graham taught marie how
37:18to exorcise their demons good girl kiss with positivity in the workplace good boy where's all well done
37:29this time the stakes are even higher stopping them being terrors outside the office
37:38they're just so explosive and i can't control them and at the campsite marie calls home unless you can
37:46sort it out then i'm afraid she's gonna be homeless if she was evicted what's gonna happen to them all
37:51you know she'd be homeless again so i'm really feeling the weight on my shoulders
37:58morning oh yeah well that's time we did well didn't we we did yes i think what we learned in
38:03a salon was that they see other dogs as competition for your affections yes so we've got to translate
38:08that to the outside right graham believes marie's four think they're not to blame for mum getting shouty
38:15it's the other dogs they meet so like last time they need to learn that only they can keep mum
38:21happy
38:22and only if they're good i want to convince them that yeah if you see another dog there's no point
38:27barking because barking isn't going to get your love and affection so if at any point they start to bark
38:33and kick off we're just going to stop and do nothing so you get love and affection if you're quiet
38:38if you're kicking off forget it that makes sense i think to make life a bit easier for you initially
38:43what say you have one though i'll look after three okay pick a pecanese anyone will do kish
38:52right come on you lot but we'll simply not reacting when they kick off all right we'll wait just here
38:58look okay we're gonna have to wait for this and only praising
39:05right we'll do nothing when they pack it in oh good girl good girl be reassurance enough
39:13good girl good boys right you two are good well good yeah when that all starts happening whether
39:21people admit it or not often the first instinct is oh yeah you start barking as well in effect yeah
39:27and if you start yanking on the lead and everything it's like it's all mayhem yeah so what we did
39:32there
39:32was we ruined the storm marie's quietly taking control with kish but the job's not done until
39:39she can handle all four at once i'm a false dog peewee to really put her to the test two
39:45more strangers
39:45are added to the mix oh that's already a problem right all right marie must resist the urge to tell
39:53them off oh oh hang on hang on now they're all going well those dogs have just kicked off a
40:05big
40:06stop my big worry is i hope this hasn't blown marie's confidence so we'll wait for it
40:27and by only praising the calm ones oh good girl the whole pack begin to clock on
40:41good girl you see that moment there she's like hang on a minute i'm barking i'm missing out
40:46you did good you did really well just days ago marie giving any dog the slightest bit of attention
40:53good boy turned her pekinese four pack into green-eyed monsters risking both her business and home
41:02so graham has one final test to see if their jealous ways could really become a thing of the
41:08past lots of people would say with their dog if they went to go and stroke somebody else's dog
41:14right that would be a reason for their dogs to kick off yeah so i wonder what would happen if
41:19if i
41:19hold on to your four dogs and you go over to one of those dogs yeah and walk that dog
41:25yeah i don't know
41:26then we'll know for sure okay they're really getting this all right there we go lovely all right
41:32let's see how we go but could marie turning her back on her pack be a step too far
41:41come on clemmy
41:49good girl
41:54well they're interested but they're not kicking off
41:59very good well done you're not jealous anymore are you hey hopefully now marie can be proud of her
42:08pekinese in public and without the worry of eviction i'm hoping this is going to make a big difference
42:14to you in it it's going to make a huge difference if i can control them i've kind of got
42:18my life back
42:19nice future's bright all right and we trained all four at once i know which i to be honest i
42:27didn't
42:27think it was possible i'll lay into a secret i wasn't sure it was either
42:38in doncaster gizmo's showing signs of improvement but he's still a work in progress let's go victoria
42:45is using costin's tips to prepare truffle for his first full groom in surrey in manchester basil's
