00:14It's crazy, as I ride around the city, I look at some of these neighborhoods.
00:19I'm like, oh, there was a shooting there, there was a murder there.
00:22At the same time, with those bad times, there's so many good times.
00:27It's a small place where everybody kind of knows each other.
00:30It's like the city is one big family.
00:33I would do anything to protect my city.
00:37We're trying to find a third district.
00:40That's four. I've got a slider on it.
00:45Back window shit.
00:56Possible third, because he ain't moving.
00:58What's going on?
00:59Laying for a little bit?
01:01Oh, yeah, yeah, he's shot.
01:03Yeah, he's shot.
01:05Go ahead and rope it off. Go ahead and tape it off.
01:07Yeah, start a major crime scene sheet, and let's tape everything off.
01:10This is going to be a third.
01:21The scene's probably off of one of these streets.
01:23We just got to find that.
01:25The call came up with
01:26so I'm going to go look for cases over there.
01:30Let's take it from this corner right here,
01:32because if anybody drive up, they're going to be like right on it.
01:35Hey.
01:36Are y'all about to come out?
01:38Y'all coming out?
01:42I'm going to hook it up on this fence right here.
01:46Let's move around the post right here.
01:49Why would you do that?
01:51Yo, I'm going to help you.
01:53Chill.
01:55Yo, we're walking up here to get you out of there.
01:59This your house right here?
02:01I got a car back to you, too.
02:03All right, I'm going to be listening for you.
02:06All right.
02:09They got a camera right there.
02:10Yeah.
02:11And a case of 9mm right here, one.
02:15That's the only one.
02:16This case is about full shots.
02:19Let me show you something that's sticking out to me.
02:21Let's look at that piece of pizza.
02:23This piece of paper right here?
02:24Let's look around here.
02:26Oh, it's not as wet as everything else.
02:29It's not wet at all.
02:30Everything out here is soaking wet.
02:32Except that.
02:33All dry.
02:34Like somebody trying to pick something up?
02:36Yeah.
02:37They had a lady who just left here.
02:39Yeah, her car was right here.
02:41And I helped her get out the table.
02:45And here comes the rain.
02:55We're heading over here.
02:56Nice rainy night.
02:58Just got a call.
03:00Unfortunately, I was in the bed sleeping.
03:03Hopefully, the scene is inside.
03:06But knowing my luck, we'll be standing outside the rain.
03:12Now I don't know much.
03:13I just know that it's in Gentilly.
03:16It's kind of a quiet neighborhood.
03:21Like this might be our stop right here.
03:26What's up, man?
03:27Not much.
03:29What's going on?
03:30Oh, you know.
03:32We got a male deceased inside of a white truck.
03:35Third District response to a call of shots fired.
03:39The vehicle apparently drove up this way, stopped at that road closure.
03:44Okay.
03:45No witnesses, nothing.
03:47The only witness is a man that observed the truck make the turn, stop, and then back up.
03:52He said he just saw the truck and then called 911.
03:56Hopefully, I get something good, man.
03:59All right.
03:59Going to get a raincoat?
04:00I'm going to get my umbrella.
04:01All right.
04:02All right.
04:08Walking up to the car, I can see the holes that are on the passenger side of the vehicle,
04:13which tells me that someone was standing outside shooting into that vehicle.
04:17There are no holes going from the inside of the vehicle to the outside, so it wasn't a shootout.
04:22It was somebody who was targeting him and shooting at him.
04:28What's up, Nick?
04:29Hey.
04:31Sorry to have you walk in the rain, man.
04:35What do you know about all of this?
04:36Just know something about shots over there.
04:38You drove over here?
04:39Yeah, I drove over there.
04:41You know, I'll see you soon on a napkin that was dry over there.
04:44Mm-hmm.
04:45It's calming all night, so it has to be somewhat current.
04:48Okay.
04:49The warrant's fine.
04:50We just wait and put a car in to get here.
04:52We already got to search one.
04:54We may as well use it.
04:55Great.
04:55Yeah, I know, right?
04:57Okay.
04:58Okay.
04:58Okay.
05:03Okay, we got two copper fragments.
05:07Red driver floorboard.
05:09Oh, wait.
05:10And a cell phone, you want it?
05:12Oh, yeah, we'll take it.
05:14I'm going to get some Ray L. Johnson luck.
05:16You never know, right?
05:18What's going through my head is trying to find out, where did he come from?
05:22He's in the middle of the street.
05:23His car is shot up.
05:25It's just a big whodunit and why.
05:29Based on what I saw in the car when I looked in it, the back of the vehicle is shot
05:33at least
05:34once.
05:35Mm-hmm.
05:35And the interior is shot, I don't know, three or four times.
05:38Okay.
05:39And it looked like he took one to the right shoulder in this direction.
05:44So it's kind of like it's going sideways to me, right?
05:48Do you have a name on him?
05:49Travis Hobbs.
05:52Immediately, I was like, I heard that name before.
05:55I was a patrolman in the 5th District before I became a homicide detective.
05:59Travis Hobbs was a 42-year-old native of New Orleans, mainly from the Night Ward area.
06:05He kind of had a sketchy past, but I remember him being real cool.
06:08And the last time I saw him, you know, he's outside laughing and joking, because I know
06:12he comes from a really big family.
06:14Unfortunately, they're going to be getting some bad news soon.
06:20I had the officers run his criminal history, and he has maybe 15 drug distribution charges.
06:28Okay.
06:28And it kind of makes sense, too, because, I mean, this area is not somewhere where you'll
06:32just be hanging out, so he definitely was coming here to meet somebody.
06:35Right.
06:35No, you don't hang here.
06:36Nah.
06:37You're not a hanging spot.
06:37Yeah.
06:38This is a residential home spot.
06:40Exactly.
06:43I'll be cool.
06:44I'll go in my car and wait for the corner.
06:45Okay.
06:46Yeah, I think I may do the same.
06:48Yeah.
06:54Knowing that Travis did have a sketchy past, that's not what I'm concerned about.
06:58My job is to find out who killed him.
07:01At the end of the day, he did not deserve to be killed.
07:06What's kind of weird about this scene is the place that the casing was found.
07:14The casing was found a block away from where the victim ended up.
07:21That's telling me that a victim was shot here directly in front of a house.
07:26Travis Hobbs, Travis Hobbs, may have drove to that location where we found him.
07:30And where the casing was, there's actually a camera right above it.
07:34But the officers prior to me arriving on scene, they knocked at the door, and a female said it was
07:40a dummy cam.
07:44I think I saw one on this corner, too, on that White House.
07:48I guess we'll try again tomorrow.
07:56At this point, we don't have much information to go on.
07:59It's the middle of the night.
08:00People are inside.
08:01It's kind of tough to knock on doors and try to get surveillance video.
08:04So it's probably best that we come back in the morning and kind of start over, do a good canvas,
08:09and see if we can collect this video.
08:12I think we're good.
08:13Get a tow back to headquarters, and we'll try again in the morning.
08:16All right.
08:17All right.
08:17Appreciate y'all.
08:18Great.
08:19Great.
08:19Great.
08:19Great.
08:35So I'll tell you, the toughest thing about this job is you never know when you're going to get that
08:38call.
08:40Last night, we stayed out there until about maybe 4 or 5 in the morning, and I'm right back up.
08:45Business booming, unfortunately.
08:50Well, I've been in homicide for going on 10 years now.
08:54Most of the police are from here.
08:57One of my close friends was actually a victim of a homicide in New Orleans, and I'll be honest with
09:02you.
09:02It was pretty tough being on that other side of it, of watching another detective handle the case,
09:08and maybe me wanting to put my own input in it, but having to stay back.
09:12So I get both sides of it.
09:16All right.
09:18Good morning.
09:20Good morning.
09:21Yeah.
09:21So you guys missed all the fun last night.
09:23So our victim, Travis Hobbs, last night when we got there, we found him in a vehicle suffering from two
09:29gunshot wounds.
09:30We believed that he was there to meet someone, and that's when whatever happened happened,
09:36and he drove maybe two blocks where he, like, stopped in the middle of the street.
09:39Was he in front of the old folks' home?
09:40Yeah.
09:41Yep.
09:41Right over there.
09:42You got it.
09:42Does the old folks' home have cameras?
09:45So it was raining cats and dogs, so I can see anything but my wet eyelids.
09:51So maybe that's, you know, today when we go back out there, we can take a look.
09:55I know there was one camera I saw that was, like, right in front of where the casing was,
09:58but supposedly it's a dummy cam, which are great.
10:02I love when they put dummy cams.
10:03Yeah, that's very effective for solving murders.
10:05This morning I got a call from a confidential source who's very familiar with Travis,
10:11and he informed me that he has a girlfriend that supposedly stays right there in a block somewhere.
10:15He gave me the name.
10:17It's Rashida Jackson.
10:20People always reach out to me.
10:21They have information.
10:22They feel comfortable with me.
10:24That's one of the advantages of being from New Orleans.
10:26This person contacted her, but she said she didn't have any information.
10:30She didn't even know he was dead, which is kind of weird to me because there was a lot of
10:33police out there
10:33and all that stuff.
10:34Nobody came outside.
10:35During the conversation, Rashida said that she doesn't know anything about what happened to Travis.
10:40Kind of raised the flag with this person, so that's what made him call me to say something's not right.
10:45So I'm kind of interested to see where she stays, see if we can maybe get some video from there,
10:49see if something happened in front of the house or something like that.
10:53Stuff's starting to roll.
10:54Let's find Rashida, find out where she lives.
10:57I found her.
10:58Oh.
11:00Oh, smoked you.
11:01Smoked you.
11:02Oh, another thing.
11:05Apparently they got into it yesterday, and she called the mom.
11:08His mom?
11:09Yeah.
11:10I haven't talked to the family yet, so I'm quite interested to see if they have something
11:14to add to it.
11:16Well, that's right there, right?
11:18Right there, yeah.
11:19So we may have to go over to the .
11:21All right, let's do it.
11:28We're about to go back to the scene and do a little canvas.
11:31I got my partners following behind.
11:34I got feet.
11:43So the vehicle came from down here after the shooting, came right here, jumped the curb,
11:49and that's where we found it at.
11:52Right here is where we found the casing and the napkin.
11:56So if you look at the house right there, you see it has a camera on it.
12:01But they say it's supposed to be a dummy cam.
12:03That's old girl's address.
12:05Right here?
12:05What is it?
12:06That's old girl's address.
12:07Shut the up.
12:08Oh, shit.
12:11That's why they said it's a dummy cam.
12:13Deeseberg looks up.
12:14He's like, that's for Cheetah House.
12:16It's the same place where the casing was found.
12:18Case on 9 mil.
12:21Oh, we got something now.
12:22We got to get a warrant.
12:23Let's go.
12:24Yeah.
12:25Yeah, let's do that.
12:27She's going to have to come see us.
12:42Should we make this, like, a high-risk search warrant?
12:45Yeah, I think that may be the move.
12:47And the casing was right here?
12:48Yeah, right there, bro.
12:49Oh, yeah.
12:50We don't know what could be in that house.
12:51She was shot right outside his house.
12:55Rashida Jackson lives right next to the crime scene.
12:57We have a possible motor, and she could be armed.
13:00So we're going to do a search warrant.
13:02We're going to that house.
13:09We're going to go back over here to a parking lot
13:11and wait for our SOD units to come,
13:14and we're going to brief with them
13:15about going to that house on .
13:18We call them high-risk marks
13:20because there's a possibility
13:21that they may not go willingly.
13:23So therefore, we call up SOD,
13:26and we have them come out,
13:27and we have them executed.
13:28And we don't want anybody innocent getting hurt.
13:35All right, everybody up for the brief?
13:38All right, good afternoon, fellas.
13:40Saw it down on the page on SOD.
13:41We'll let the lead detective,
13:44Detective Riel, give us a rundown
13:45of why we're here.
13:47Basically, we had a murder last night.
13:49We did a canvas.
13:50We went to the house.
13:52There was a camera there.
13:53We spoke to someone.
13:54They said that the camera is via dummy cam,
13:56and they had no information about the shooting.
13:58Later on, we find out that there's a wire
14:00that runs from that camera to the inside of the house,
14:02and his ex-girlfriend stays there.
14:04And we believe that's who the detective spoke to
14:07the first time, who gave us that information.
14:09So we believe that it has something to do with the homicide.
14:12So let's get dressed and ready to roll out.
14:18Hopefully, we'll be able to get the surveillance video,
14:21maybe a firearm or something like that.
14:24As of right now, it's the only lead that we have.
14:27So we're going to roll with it.
14:44Hopefully, we still got something in there.
14:53There we go.
15:03After S.O.D. clears the residence
15:05and makes sure everything is secure,
15:07we have to wait it out.
15:08When they give me the clear to go in,
15:09it's time to go in.
15:10It's just so everybody's safe.
15:14The house is quiet,
15:16and everybody's safe.
15:184144, request.
15:19You can meet us at the front door.
15:21All right.
15:24So there's a security camera
15:25outside of Rashida's house.
15:27I want to see if that security cam record the murder.
15:30He's not going to tell me that camera don't work, man.
15:32Come on, right?
15:33Look at that, man.
15:34Why would you run a wire like that for a fake cam?
15:37Uber, yeah.
15:39When I walk in the house,
15:40the first thing I'm doing,
15:41I'm taking mental notes.
15:44Where are the bedrooms?
15:45Where's the bathroom?
15:46Living room?
15:47Everything.
15:47Because you never know
15:48how that could come up later.
15:52During the search,
15:53we learned that
15:54the camera
15:54wasn't recording.
15:57All right.
15:59So we just searched the house.
16:00I'm about to call the family.
16:02They said they might have
16:02some information for me.
16:04So I'm about to give them a call
16:05and see what they got.
16:10Hello?
16:10Hey, how you doing?
16:11This is Detective Johnson
16:12with New Orleans Police Department.
16:15Do you know where Travis was living?
16:18He was living in the east?
16:23Well, I'll tell you,
16:24the incident occurred around
16:25Laughing Air and St. Anthony.
16:27Do you know why
16:28he would be in this area?
16:35Do you know of any other ladies
16:36he might have been dating
16:37or ex-girlfriends
16:38or anything that stayed in this area?
16:40Well, they had a girl
16:41that he used to talk to
16:42and stayed around that way.
16:44Who's that?
16:45Her name is
16:48Renika Jackson.
16:51Um, you mean Rashida?
16:55Yes.
16:56Have you spoken to her at all?
16:59Yeah, she was over here
17:00a little while ago.
17:01Okay, and what did she say about it?
17:04Well, she left from here
17:05and did not.
17:05She said the police
17:06have gotten out.
17:06That's why she left.
17:08So she said
17:09she's on the way here?
17:11Yeah, she left my house
17:12and said she was driving
17:13the police is right out.
17:14Okay.
17:15Hopefully she comes over here.
17:16Um, but I want to meet
17:17with you guys in person too.
17:18So when we finish up over here,
17:20I'll give you a call.
17:21Okay.
17:21And what is your name?
17:22Detective Johnson.
17:24Okay, sir.
17:25Okay.
17:25I'll talk to you shortly.
17:29Well, that's interesting.
17:32There's so many red flags
17:33that are just going off.
17:35Rashida, she has to come forward
17:37and give me some information
17:38because it just doesn't make sense.
17:41I just talked to the family
17:42and Rashida is supposed
17:44to be on her way over here
17:45because she heard
17:46the police at her house.
17:47I don't know.
17:48We'll see what she have
17:48to say about it.
17:49Still kind of weird there
17:50right in front of her house
17:52as we find the casing
17:53and all this stuff.
17:54Yeah, I ain't buying it.
17:58There's a drum mag upstairs
17:59that I found in a shoebox
18:01in the hallway.
18:04It's got like nine rounds in it.
18:06It's loaded with 40s.
18:09Unfortunately, it doesn't match
18:11the casing that we recovered,
18:13but it also shows that
18:14somebody in this residence
18:16has a firearm.
18:17Well, there's one gun
18:18and maybe two, three, four, or five.
18:24See if she pulled up yet.
18:26Uh, yeah, that's her.
18:28Hello.
18:29Hello.
18:29I live here.
18:31Okay, he's going to talk to you.
18:32Uh, what's your name, Zarr?
18:33Uh, Rashida.
18:34Okay, Detective Johnson.
18:35Um, let me talk to you real quick.
18:38I want to find out
18:39why was there a casing found
18:41outside her residence last night
18:43and the shooting victim
18:45was her ex-boyfriend.
18:47And with all that information,
18:49she didn't come down there,
18:50come flag us down last night,
18:52nothing.
18:52She got some questions to answer.
18:55Last night, were you home?
18:57No, I had just came home.
18:59Then when I was back upstairs,
19:01I just heard gunshots.
19:03Mm-hmm.
19:04And then that's when
19:04I come back outside,
19:06my son was saying,
19:07that s*** just hit your car,
19:09that s*** just hit your car
19:10and pointed a gun at me.
19:12I'm like, who?
19:13He was like, Travis.
19:15I said, boy,
19:16Travis not gonna come around here.
19:18Mm-hmm.
19:18Like, because I don't have
19:19any dealings with him.
19:20Right.
19:20But lately,
19:21I've been having
19:22a lot of run-ins to him.
19:23Mm-hmm.
19:24In the club,
19:25he threatened me
19:26and everything,
19:27but I overlooked all that.
19:29Okay.
19:32Hello.
19:34It's a whole thing
19:34she gave me.
19:35I was like, whoa.
19:36She gotta come to the airport.
19:53That's your truck right there?
19:54Mm-hmm.
19:55All right, let me get you
19:56to follow me at the headquarter.
20:04Rashida said that her son said
20:06that Travis pulled a gun on him,
20:08which is quite interesting.
20:10We never heard that part of it,
20:11so right now,
20:13she's following us
20:13up to her headquarters
20:14so I can get that statement
20:16and find out who her son is.
20:18We're about to find out shortly.
20:36My name is Detective Johnson.
20:38It's my partner, Detective Gray.
20:40Um, first of all,
20:43how do you know Travis?
20:45I'm his ex.
20:46He's ex.
20:47Okay.
20:48How long ago did y'all break up?
20:51Mm-hmm.
20:53It's been a while.
20:56I raised his son.
20:57You know,
20:58he called me his favorite mom
21:00or whatever.
21:00I called him my favorite daddy.
21:03And while we were talking,
21:04the scene,
21:04you was explaining something
21:05to me about him.
21:05He said he'd been messing with you,
21:07like, coming to the club,
21:09places you're at.
21:09Like, explain that whole
21:10little deal to me.
21:11Like, I don't have a problem
21:13with him.
21:13Mm-hmm.
21:15But it's like when he drank,
21:17you know,
21:18he didn't have to stop it.
21:19I just don't like to be around
21:20that type of environment with him.
21:22Okay.
21:24So what happened last night,
21:26you said?
21:26I don't know.
21:27I don't even know
21:28why he was around, though.
21:30What was his reason
21:30of coming around, though?
21:32Did he call you first?
21:34No.
21:34The last time I talked to him
21:36was, like, around 6.
21:406 p.m.?
21:41Yeah.
21:43Around the time the shooting
21:44occurred, explain that to me.
21:45You had got back home,
21:46and what happened
21:47when you got to the office?
21:50I went in the bathroom,
21:51and I just heard
21:52a car just flying down the street,
21:54like,
21:57so I didn't even speak,
21:59you know, no mind to it
22:00or whatever.
22:00So I just went back on,
22:02proceeded,
22:03taking my little s***.
22:05And this time I heard
22:06a boom, boom, boom sound.
22:09I got to step on the tub
22:12to see.
22:13I just saw a back of a truck
22:15just skidding off.
22:17Okay, so explain to me
22:18what you say.
22:18You say your son says
22:19Travis Lawyer done
22:20or something like that.
22:21That's what my son said.
22:23I don't know.
22:24What did he say?
22:25Like, explain that part.
22:26He just said
22:26when he went downstairs
22:28to go look,
22:29I guess he went before me.
22:31Mm-hmm.
22:32And by the time
22:32I had to put my clothes
22:33and stuff on,
22:34I went downstairs,
22:35went outside.
22:36He was like,
22:38that s*** was ramming
22:39in the back of your truck.
22:40And I was like,
22:41this is f***ing crazy.
22:43Do you have damage
22:45to your truck?
22:46It's just a bunch
22:47of little stretches.
22:49Okay.
22:50What's just our name?
22:51F***.
22:53Has him and Travis
22:55ever had anything going on?
22:56Any kind of little words past?
22:58No, because he look at Travis
23:01like his stepdaddy.
23:02Mm-hmm.
23:03And I guess the thing is...
23:04I mean, I've been with him.
23:06So my children were small.
23:10Like...
23:14I'm all over.
23:15I understand.
23:16I understand.
23:18So Rashida said
23:20she's devastated
23:21about losing Travis.
23:22She said that
23:23she was kind of in shock.
23:25But the thing
23:26that I'm noticing
23:27is that she seems nervous.
23:29Her son's name comes up.
23:30And I started asking
23:32information about him
23:33and she's very vague.
23:34She just gave me
23:34just enough
23:35just to try to get me
23:36to shut up.
23:37But that's not gonna work.
23:38How do we get in touch with him?
23:41I don't know.
23:41I barely sees him.
23:43What does he say?
23:45He ain't there.
23:46My son don't have
23:47no key to my house
23:48and he can't get in my house
23:50unless I'm there.
23:51Unless you're there.
23:51Gotcha.
23:52I don't get along there.
23:54You're number four.
23:56F***.
23:57If I'm sure you do,
23:58it's your son.
24:00Oh, I don't know
24:02if I'm what.
24:03You have your phone?
24:04No.
24:06Where's your phone?
24:07Oh, it's by my auntie's house.
24:09Where's that?
24:10Right there in Jim Tilly.
24:12Okay.
24:14Just give me one second, okay?
24:15And I'll be right back.
24:23During the interview,
24:24I asked Rashida
24:24about her cell phone.
24:26Conveniently,
24:27she doesn't have it with her.
24:28It's kind of weird.
24:29I believe she's hiding something.
24:31At this point,
24:32we need to confirm
24:33her son's identity.
24:35I need to pull up a picture
24:36of him I want to confirm.
24:41I found him.
24:42You want me to print it?
24:44Please.
24:46He does have a criminal record.
24:48Definitely a person of interest
24:49that I want to speak with.
24:52Latest developments?
24:54We're about to pull up
24:55a picture of her son
24:56and show it to her
24:57just to confirm as him.
24:59But if she said something
25:01about Travis flashed
25:02a cunt at him
25:03at some point,
25:04like, that definitely
25:05gives a motive.
25:07And said something
25:08about Travis
25:09ramming her truck.
25:11Does she have any
25:11damage to her truck?
25:13So she says
25:13on the back of the truck
25:14there is some, like,
25:14the scrape marks
25:15that weren't there before,
25:17they'll probably need
25:17to at least get
25:18a picture of it.
25:19Okay.
25:20We can do that on ourself.
25:21We don't need
25:21crime left for that.
25:22Yeah, I can do that
25:22on my self.
25:23Yeah, yeah.
25:23On my work phone.
25:23You saw her truck?
25:24Yeah, I saw it.
25:25It's parked in the corner.
25:26I can go do that.
25:27Yeah.
25:29So as of right now...
25:30Definitely need
25:31to talk to him.
25:32Definitely need
25:32to talk to him.
25:34But she doesn't have
25:35her phone with her,
25:36conveniently.
25:37Her phone is
25:37at somebody's house.
25:39So I'm going
25:40to give up
25:40before the end
25:41of the day.
25:42I've never experienced
25:43someone pointing
25:44a finger at their son
25:45as the suspect.
25:46But first time
25:47for everything.
25:49Welcome to Homicide.
26:16Well, let's get
26:19out of the way.
26:25I do think
26:26it's suspicious
26:27that Rashida Jackson
26:28will point the finger
26:29at her son.
26:30That definitely
26:31made me raise my eyebrows
26:32and Steph, too,
26:33was like, nah,
26:34something's not right.
26:36All right.
26:37Sorry about that.
26:38All right, so we should've
26:39got a few more questions
26:39before we get out of here.
26:41You said something
26:42about your son
26:42like about y'all
26:43don't really get along.
26:44What's the issue
26:45with that?
26:46What happened?
26:46Oh, it's not
26:47no bad issue.
26:48You know,
26:49parents' house
26:50come with rules.
26:51All right.
26:51I don't want
26:52all them different
26:52girls in my house.
26:53You still want
26:54to bring all
26:54the different girls
26:55in my house.
26:56Yeah.
26:56So you need your own.
26:59You say the previous
26:59and you don't have
27:00any idea
27:01why he was in,
27:02like, right outside
27:03your house?
27:04I don't even
27:05much know why.
27:06Like, what's,
27:07what's the reason
27:08for you to be around
27:09that I don't affiliate
27:10with you,
27:10I don't deal
27:11with you,
27:11I don't conversate
27:12with you.
27:12and you don't have
27:13any idea
27:13of his warehouse.
27:15You know,
27:16knowing where he
27:17laid his head at,
27:18I can't tell you that.
27:19Okay.
27:19So, just so we
27:21can understand,
27:22who's that?
27:23That's him.
27:24That's my son.
27:24That's your son.
27:25All right.
27:26So what we're doing
27:26is just identify
27:27that as your son.
27:28If you could have
27:29just signed it
27:30on the back
27:30or just data
27:31just making sure
27:32that we have
27:32the right person
27:33as your son.
27:34I'm still trying
27:35to wrap this
27:36around my head.
27:37Yeah.
27:38And at the end
27:38of the day,
27:38you know,
27:39like you said,
27:39you weren't outside,
27:40so you should
27:41put today's date.
27:42Like I said,
27:43once I'm in my house,
27:44I'm in my house.
27:45The only reason
27:46why I came out
27:46of my house
27:47was just to go
27:47check up on my truck
27:49and it was raining.
27:51Okay.
27:52Let me ask you
27:52another question.
27:53This one's kind
27:53of important.
27:54It was a magazine
27:56for a gun
27:57that was in the house.
27:58Who was that for?
27:59I don't know.
28:00Do you own any guns?
28:02Hell no.
28:03Okay.
28:04So,
28:04and this is the thing,
28:05like this is a homicide
28:06investigation.
28:06It's very serious.
28:08So, you know,
28:08the questions
28:09that I'm asking you,
28:10we actually need
28:10for specific reasons.
28:12Right, right.
28:12So,
28:13and I want to give you
28:14an opportunity
28:14to wrap,
28:15because I don't want you
28:15to get wrapped up
28:16in something like this,
28:18you know,
28:19especially if you
28:19didn't do anything.
28:20But also,
28:21like I said,
28:22when we look at videos
28:23and there's something
28:23different from what
28:24you're telling us
28:25that may become an issue.
28:26So, I want to get ahead
28:27of that.
28:27So, I want to ask you,
28:28and I need you
28:29to be honest with me
28:30about what occurred
28:31that night.
28:33Rashida said
28:34that she was
28:35in the bathroom,
28:36she heard the shots,
28:37she looked out
28:38the bathroom window,
28:39and she saw
28:40a white vehicle
28:40fleeing the scene,
28:41which was kind of weird
28:43to me,
28:43because the bathroom window
28:45wasn't facing that street.
28:46So,
28:47something not lining up.
28:48So,
28:49we definitely need
28:50to speak with him,
28:51your son,
28:52because you mentioned
28:53somebody, Travis,
28:54flashing a gun at him
28:55or something like that.
28:56If that's what happened,
28:57then he definitely
28:57needs to tell us that,
28:59because if something
29:00happened to you
29:00and he was defending himself,
29:01he needs to tell us that too.
29:02I'm going to give you
29:03my phone number.
29:04I'm just about to tell you,
29:05give me your card,
29:08and once I get to my phone,
29:09I'm going to pull it up.
29:10I understand.
29:11I understand.
29:17I can't tell whether
29:18or not she's the shooter
29:19or if she's covering up
29:21for her son.
29:22But at this point,
29:23we don't have much more
29:24to hold her on.
29:26All right.
29:29Getting old.
29:31Take your time.
29:32Damn hip.
29:34And it's freezing in the...
29:37So, I looked at her truck.
29:38What did she say?
29:39He was supposed to hit it
29:40with another car?
29:41Yeah.
29:42No.
29:42She said there's a bunch
29:43of scratches on the back
29:44of it or something like that?
29:45No.
29:46Okay.
29:46Like, if that was hit
29:47with another car?
29:48No.
29:49It looks like she scraped
29:50a branch or something.
29:54Once you tell one lie,
29:55you got to tell another one.
29:56You got to keep going.
29:58And she's not a very good liar.
30:01After getting out of here,
30:02I got a lot more
30:03investigating to do.
30:33So, yesterday,
30:36Rashida kind of mentioned
30:38her son being involved
30:39in the homicide
30:40in some kind of way.
30:42We tried to reach out
30:43to Rashida's son.
30:44We have no luck.
30:46He doesn't want to talk
30:46to the police.
30:48Her son isn't a suspect
30:50at this time,
30:51more so a possible witness.
30:53Maybe he has more information,
30:55but we can't force him
30:56to come in and talk to us.
31:00After interviewing Rashida,
31:02I didn't really get
31:03much information.
31:03I knew she wasn't
31:04telling the truth,
31:05but I really don't have
31:06much more to go on right now.
31:09What we're going to do
31:10is go talk to
31:11a confidential source.
31:13Hopefully,
31:13some more information
31:14to come forward,
31:15but I don't know.
31:19We'll see if we can
31:20figure something out.
31:26Hello.
31:27Detective Johnson.
31:48Just met with the source,
31:50and they just told me
31:52that Rashida actually
31:53shot Travis.
32:04So, the source
32:05had spoken to Rashida
32:06that night
32:07and informed him
32:08that she shot Travis
32:09because he was
32:10ramming her vehicle.
32:12The source informed me
32:13about how the family
32:15is all distraught
32:15that he got killed.
32:17The source also told me
32:18that Travis had two kids
32:20that, you know,
32:20adored him,
32:21and now they're going
32:22to be without their dad.
32:23Like, the whole family
32:24is messed up
32:25just learning
32:26what happened to them.
32:28But that's why
32:29I'm here to
32:30at least give them
32:31some type of justice
32:31and find a person
32:32that's responsible.
32:43You missed all the fun.
32:44Did I?
32:45Then you did.
32:46I went and saw
32:47a confidential source.
32:48Mm-hmm.
32:49While I'm talking to her,
32:50she turns to me and was like,
32:52Detective,
32:52I got to tell you something.
32:54The night of the shooting,
32:55at 1.30,
32:56she got a call
32:57from Ms. Jackson
32:58and what she said,
32:59Travis is outside
33:00beating on my car
33:02and I shot him.
33:04No s***.
33:06Yeah.
33:06Same thing I said.
33:08Dude.
33:08Yeah.
33:09Yeah.
33:10That kind of changes things,
33:11but it makes sense, right?
33:12I mean, it can, yeah.
33:13Yeah.
33:13For sure.
33:15In investigations,
33:16you know,
33:16people are going to lead us
33:17all kind of different ways.
33:18But the fact that
33:19Rashida sat there
33:21in front of my face
33:21and she acted like
33:22she had no idea
33:23what I was talking about,
33:25honestly, it pisses me off.
33:27So, I have the statement
33:28from a source.
33:30But if you're going to
33:31get an arrest warrant
33:32for somebody,
33:32you can't just go off
33:33one thing.
33:34Because I would not
33:35be able to sleep at night
33:36putting the wrong person
33:37in jail for murder.
33:39So, I just want to fact check.
33:41Can we go back
33:42to the truck?
33:43Yeah, we can go
33:44search her real quick.
33:45Look under the seats
33:46and whatnot,
33:46just to see.
33:47Make sure there's
33:48nothing in there.
33:50Let's do it.
33:55At this point,
33:56we want to process
33:56Travis's truck again,
33:58see if we can get
33:59some additional evidence.
34:00I don't see nothing.
34:02There was no damage
34:03on the vehicle.
34:06Same thing on the side.
34:11But look where the hole is at.
34:19I don't see nothing.
34:21My son was sad.
34:23That s**t had printed
34:24a gun at me.
34:25Nope.
34:27I don't see no damn gun.
34:29Nope.
34:31She full of s**t.
34:33Trump's that whole thing
34:34about him having a gun
34:35and flashing a gun at him.
34:37Right.
34:38That's another strike against her.
34:39Yeah.
34:40She got some explaining to do.
34:42Yeah.
34:43Rashida,
34:44her story is full of
34:45holes and lies.
34:48So,
34:48I want to see if I can put
34:49Rashida on the scene
34:50at the time of that murder.
34:52I want to go back
34:53and look at the body cams
34:54from the officers
34:55that were on scene.
34:56That night,
34:57at 1.30 in the morning,
34:59Travis Hobbs is killed
35:00and officers are trying
35:02to shut down the scene.
35:03It's still, like, right there.
35:04This is Abram
35:05still setting up the tape.
35:07Let's do it
35:07at this corner right here
35:08because if anybody drive up,
35:10they're going to be, like,
35:11right on it.
35:12See what I'm saying?
35:13Her truck's there.
35:14Oh, really?
35:15Yeah.
35:17Up on the sidewalk
35:18by the garage.
35:20Where the casing was found.
35:21Right.
35:23Oh, wow.
35:24At 2.02 a.m.,
35:26Rashida's truck
35:27is parked outside her house
35:28and she steps outside
35:30while officers are trying
35:31to shut down
35:32and secure the crime scene.
35:34Hey!
35:35Are y'all about to come out?
35:37Y'all coming out?
35:38Y'all coming, quick.
35:44And later on,
35:46when he's about
35:47to find the casing,
35:49she's not there.
35:50And the truck isn't there
35:50at that point.
35:53At 2.17 a.m.,
35:55officers stop Rashida
35:56and she appears
35:57to flee the crime scene.
35:58There's her truck leaving.
36:01I'm walking up here
36:02to get you out of there.
36:03Oh.
36:04What, this your house
36:05right here?
36:06I gotta come back to you.
36:08All right,
36:09I'm gonna be listening for you.
36:10All right.
36:12Boom.
36:13Gotcha.
36:16The body cam shows
36:17that Rashida
36:18drove off
36:18and left the scene
36:19last night.
36:20Her vehicle was there
36:21to put her on the scene
36:23at the time of that murder.
36:25Hell with that.
36:26I'm typing that warrant
36:27right now.
36:33So I just sent it
36:34to Sergeant Hyatt.
36:36Hopefully, he likes it
36:37and he'll send it
36:38to the judge.
36:39Yeah, I'm happy with it.
36:40Especially, she sat in there
36:41and lied to us.
36:42Yeah.
36:43For like an hour.
36:45You know,
36:45in those lies,
36:46none of it made sense,
36:47honestly.
36:47It didn't make sense at all.
36:49He's outside,
36:50so-called damaging your car.
36:51Messing up your car.
36:52But there's no damage.
36:53Yeah.
36:55Rashida's son
36:55is not the perpetrator.
36:57The fact that
36:58during the interview,
36:59Rashida brought up
37:00her son's name
37:01and kind of hinted on
37:03to him being the shooter.
37:04I don't know.
37:05That says a lot
37:05about her as a mom.
37:08She threw her son
37:09that she don't like out.
37:11Threw that name out there.
37:13Mother of the year.
37:15All right.
37:15Let me go check on my warrant.
37:19Anything yet?
37:21Oh.
37:21Oh, there we go.
37:22A few warrant.
37:22Oh, yeah.
37:23Active warrant.
37:24Oh, nice.
37:26Now,
37:27Rashida has the warrant
37:28out for her arrest.
37:29At the end of the day,
37:30she has to be
37:31taken off the street.
37:32Because what she
37:33possibly did to Travis,
37:36nah,
37:36that's not going to fly.
38:09we headed over to Travis Hobbs' mom's house to just kind of give a little heads up that we're going
38:16to put Rashida's picture on the news to try and locate Rashida.
38:20And I'd rather tell her in person.
38:38And I'd rather tell her in person.
38:49Was she having a rough time locking her down?
38:49There's some questions that I want to find out.
38:52I'd rather tell her in person.
38:53I want to find out why this happened.
38:54Travis Hobbs definitely didn't deserve to be shot and killed.
38:57Like, what happened?
38:59Hey, how you doing?
39:00This is my partner, Detective Deesberger.
39:02How you doing?
39:02Nice to meet you.
39:05Talking to Travis's mom, she believed that Travis was probably called around to Rashida's house.
39:11What was his reason for coming there to see her?
39:14Was he called over there?
39:15Was he set up?
39:16Or was he coming over there just to see her and something went bad?
39:20Hopefully, I'll be able to answer those questions and give some closure to Travis's family.
39:26I tell Travis's mom that Rashida won't come in and talk to me.
39:31She's not even standing at her house.
39:33She's on the run.
39:34And that's why we're going to send this bulletin out.
39:36We'll find her.
39:41Today, I'm going to put Rashida's picture on the news to see if I can assist the Marshals
39:47in the Vows Unit with locating her.
39:49Because she's definitely ducking us.
40:19After Rashida's face is on the news, on social media, where are you going to hide at?
40:23Nobody's not going to let you in the house.
40:25So I think that was her last result, just tearing herself in.
40:32Detective Johnson is my partner, Detective Gray.
40:36Of course, we do want to talk to you again.
40:39Let me just go through my spell.
40:40And if you don't want to, then that's fine.
40:43No, because I didn't want to do this already.
40:45And I told you what I knew already.
40:48Okay.
40:48You already asked me questions.
40:50There's nothing else I could tell you.
40:52Okay.
40:53I'm about to have my attorney present.
40:55Okay, that's fine.
40:56That's all I understand.
40:57All right.
40:58We'll get you back over there.
40:59No problem.
41:06Honestly, that's fine.
41:07I have more than enough evidence.
41:09I have my arrest warrant.
41:11She's going to jail.
41:12And that's not the end.
41:14We're going to continue to investigate.
41:16That was quick.
41:17Yeah.
41:18Hey, I gave an opportunity to say something.
41:22Maybe she had some information she wanted to put out there.
41:24But, you know, silence.
41:27I take that, too.
41:28I feel like I'm more than enough.
41:29So, today she's going to be transported over to lockup,
41:33booked with second-degree murder.
41:36To work with the dream work.
41:42I've been on the other side.
41:43I know what it's like to have a loved one killed.
41:46So, you want some answers.
41:49You want somebody to pay for it.
41:52Rashida Jackson allegedly killed Travis Hobbs.
41:56This is somebody who supposedly loves Travis.
41:59And it's somebody she kind of looked at like family.
42:02For Travis's mom.
42:04I know that she's happy that Rashida has been arrested
42:07and she'll get some type of closure.
42:22As a detective, the thing that I'm most proud of
42:24is being able to clear cases
42:26and give victims' families some type of answers.
42:28That goes a long way for me.
42:30And it's like my badge of honor.
42:34This is my city.
42:36It's the city that I love.
42:40It's always been known as a violent city.
42:43For me, I just want to see that turned around.
42:46And all I can do is do my part.
42:49I love my city.
42:50I love the people in it.
42:51They love me, too.
42:53That's me.
42:54I'm the freckle-faced detective from New Orleans, man.
42:57Hey, hey.
42:58I love you.
42:59I love you.
43:05I love you.
43:06I love you.
43:07I love you.
43:08I love you.
43:08I love you.
43:09I love you.
43:09I love you.
43:10I love you.
