00:17What's the location?
00:19Hi, how you doing?
00:19They have somebody laying on the ground on General Maya.
00:22He's breathing, y'all.
00:23He's breathing.
00:24Oh, my God.
00:27Can y'all see the ambulance?
00:28She says it's on the ground dying.
00:36No!
00:44No!
00:45No!
00:46No!
00:47No!
00:48Oh, my God.
00:55Oh!
00:56Oh.
00:56Oh, my God.
00:57Oh, my God.
00:57Oh, my God.
01:26There's a kid.
01:27There's a kid who was my decedent, body still on scene, and a large crowd, so that's how that
01:37go once I get there.
01:39My first reaction when I hear that there's a juvenile involved, I just think about my
01:44sons, how I try to protect them.
01:47You know, I just think about the family.
01:50You're going to have family members out on scene, and they'll be pretty upset.
01:55But this is a kid we're talking about.
01:58Hopefully I can help close this one pretty quicker.
02:10No!
02:15No!
02:16No!
02:16Let me go!
02:18Let me go!
02:19I won't trust you to my up!
02:21Damn.
02:24Got a lot going on, huh?
02:26Family?
02:27Huh?
02:28Oh, definitely.
02:33Everyone's grieving.
02:35I don't want to interrupt them.
02:37I just walk past them and go straight to the crime scene.
02:40Come on.
02:42Hold up.
02:42Please tell me that's not him!
02:49He is 15 years old.
02:53Big.
02:54Right.
02:56So damn young.
02:59The gunshot wound for the back.
03:02Damn.
03:05See that bullet hole that went through that window, you see, right there?
03:08Mm-hmm.
03:09Yeah, I see it.
03:09Going up there to make sure that nobody in the...
03:13What's the victim's name?
03:15Renard Williams, Jr.
03:18Okay.
03:20Once I got on the scene, I immediately said, that's a Landry student.
03:26I used to work the detail at his school.
03:29I used to interact with all those little kids.
03:32They called me TD.
03:35The principal arrived on the scene and he was like, is that one of ours?
03:40And I had to tell him, yes.
03:43That's one of ours.
03:47Supposedly, him and another kid, who he was with named ,
03:50who has disappeared out here, was walking from this way.
03:56Walking this way.
03:57The shots rang out.
03:57Mm-hmm.
03:58They have not located any cases down that way.
04:01Mm-hmm.
04:02But I guess he collapsed right here.
04:04Mm-hmm.
04:05Which would explain a bullet hole in the window.
04:09I wonder if they maybe used a revolver.
04:12Because there are no shell casings near the body, I initially assumed that the shooter may have used a revolver.
04:19A revolver does not eject any shell casings.
04:23Those casings will remain inside the firearm.
04:26I then began to speculate if he was even shot there.
04:30We didn't even see blood.
04:32I'm like, where's the scene?
04:35So, his friend named , know where he live at?
04:39We're still trying to find him.
04:41My primary witness, who was with the victim when he was shot, is no longer at the scene.
04:47So, that is definitely a problem.
04:49I needed to speak with him ASAP.
04:51What's up, bro?
04:52What you got?
04:54Oh, listen.
04:54Mm-hmm.
04:56This is what I got.
04:56I got the mama on the phone.
04:58There's a female.
04:59I don't know who the...
04:59I guess that's his sister.
05:01She got found her.
05:03Okay.
05:03And I'm guessing either the girl or the mama knows where he lives at.
05:07Okay.
05:08Go down there and see what we can do then.
05:10See if we can talk to her.
05:13I do need to find the witness before someone else does.
05:17I don't know if this was intended for him, or maybe he's afraid.
05:21So, I walked over to speak with the mother of the victim.
05:24Of course, she's extremely distraught.
05:28He's not a bad child.
05:29He's not at the location.
05:31I promise y'all I'll sit down.
05:34I'm sorry.
05:34Come on.
05:35We can go in the car.
05:36I know this is rough.
05:39From what Raynard's mother is telling me,
05:41it sounds like Raynard was a really good kid.
05:44Normal teenager.
05:46Plays video games.
05:49From there, I find out that before the murder occurred,
05:52he was with his little sister.
05:54I'm learning that Raynard's sister says some girl that they don't even know
05:59came and watched them at track practice.
06:01And then after practice, that girl tried to fight one of her friends.
06:05And Raynard's sister tried to defuse the situation.
06:08But then a dude that girl was with jumped in and kind of started arguing as well.
06:14And that's when everything kicked off.
06:16She called Raynard.
06:17And he left from a friend's house just to come and walk her home,
06:21maybe about four blocks from the crime scene.
06:24When are y'all going to stop?
06:26When are y'all going to feel that nothing's enough, man?
06:29They got the wrong child, man.
06:32You're the baby.
06:33You're a kid, man.
06:35I'm promising Raynard's mom, at this point forward,
06:38that was going to be my everyday life,
06:41investigating who was behind the murder of our son.
06:46You want to be the key to more information than we have now?
06:49Mm-hmm.
06:51I just want to get the facts from the surviving witness
06:54and just understand what took place
06:57and what led to his friend being murdered.
06:59Hello?
06:59Is this ?
07:01Hey, I need to talk to you.
07:02This is Detective Storway and OPD.
07:04You want to meet me somewhere?
07:06Or I can come to your house?
07:08Okay, where you at?
07:12You're going to have to call your mom right quick.
07:15Listen, were you hit?
07:17Okay, you wasn't hit at all.
07:18What's your address?
07:20Okay, all right.
07:22Thanks.
07:24Come on, let's go.
07:30It's always hard working with juveniles.
07:33For a 15-year-old kid to lose their life over an argument
07:37that his sister possibly had with someone,
07:40it's crazy to me.
07:41I just don't understand how stuff like this happens.
07:45So now we're going to go to the witness's house
07:48to talk to him.
07:55Once I get there, he's with his mom, and she allowed me to speak to her son.
08:00When I'm speaking with the witness, he's extremely afraid.
08:03You just watch the friend get murdered.
08:06Of course you're going to be afraid.
08:08The witness tells me that they were at home, and the victim gets a phone call from his sister.
08:15So he left the house to go and walk her home.
08:18Later, he began to walk back home on General Meyer, back to the witness's house.
08:23The witness, he explained to me that, as he was walking by bushes, they realized that someone was shooting at
08:30him,
08:30and they ran across the street.
08:32These bushes were an area that we didn't look at for any casing,
08:36because it was across the street from where the decedent was found.
08:41Unfortunately, after speaking with the witness, he did not know who or why someone even shot at him.
08:48Want to go back over there?
08:49Yeah.
08:52Oh, man.
08:58Right now, we're going to go back where he said that he heard the shots at,
09:01to see if we can find some casings.
09:03Because right now, we don't even have that.
09:06We're just trying to see, like, if we can figure out where the shots were fired from.
09:17These are the bushes right here that he's talking about, I guess.
09:24It's extremely important that we get everything right on that crime scene.
09:28We only get one shot at it.
09:31Damn.
09:39Look at that.
09:43We found a flashlight to a firearm.
09:45We need someone to come and collect it and swab it for DNA.
09:48Careful.
09:50No gun anywhere?
09:55Ready?
09:56Yep.
09:57Can I stop?
09:59To be fair.
10:08I did.
10:10You're right.
10:11You're right now.
10:12You're right now.
10:13You're right now.
10:15You're right now.
10:16Oh, yeah, yeah.
10:18We need to wonder.
10:27and then they probably ran that way drive the damn flashlight he should have had him running
10:32across the street we started working this investigation with nothing we've been out
10:38there for hours now and now we got a flashlight from possibly the suspect's pistol that may have
10:44dna and also some shrapnel that tiani found and that's a huge win it really is a team effort when
10:52working on homicide i was sure that there was going to be something else my main goal was to
10:57just keep going until we find more oh yeah dude look at that one two three four five six seven
11:10eight nine
11:15this is actually our crime scene all these casings are from the perpetrator's gun
11:22and they look like nine millimeter casings
11:31when i heard that bernard and his friend was shot at about 14 times i immediately start thinking
11:37it's overkill and it's also reckless we're going to do everything we can to find out who did this
12:02i would like to describe my son renard williams jr as intelligent outstanding hilarious
12:11i wanted him not just to see new orleans i wanted him to see the whole world and i never
12:18imagined spending
12:19my life without my son
12:23renault was a good child loving child renault would give you the shirt off his back
12:30you know that's just the type of child he was he was real humble and family was everything for him
12:39renault is my oldest brother that's like my twin well we call each other twins
12:48he was very protective of me he gotta be at school earlier than me but he leave out the dough
12:53to make
12:53sure i'm good and make sure i get out just get out the house street so every morning i'd be
12:59like i love
12:59you be safe he was my role model i just miss him this is my other hand this is my
13:07whole heart
13:08i need him more than he he knows i need him i can't do this without him he don't know
13:15that
13:18renault was my world i never imagined living without him you know i always thought i would go
13:26before before them you know what could he do to you to make you want to harm him i want
13:34to know a
13:34motive i want to know why i want to know was it worked it we need to figure out what
13:39happened what led
13:50up to this definitely sympathize with the parents because this is something that could have easily
13:55been avoided i mean i don't understand how kids like the first thing they think to do is grab a
14:00gun
14:01and shoot at someone just for a petty argument the problem with the juvenile situation now here in the
14:07city i think is we lost the programs that we had in place to kind of keep them busy and
14:14they're just
14:14pretty much running the streets new orleans was actually the first of its kind it had like recreational
14:20development for kids at parks when i was a kid i used to play a lot at shakespeare park i
14:28loved it
14:31so now i have two boys one is 16 one is 14 and i have an 11 year old daughter
14:36so definitely an eye
14:38opener like what's going on in the streets and everything and just you know it makes you look
14:42at your kids differently like you want to keep them close especially with my line of work
14:53so where'd you find the casings at because when i left last night you had yeah the projectile up there
14:59the flashlight was right here so i think what happened was and they started shooting about right
15:05here because it's in line with the window that was shot right there so i think they kept shooting at
15:10them and as they were shooting they were moving and that's where the casings ended up like right here in
15:15the line so i think after they shot them they had to take off and run this way because the
15:22it ejects to the right and they're possibly moving this way so what i want to do is walk this
15:31way and
15:31see if we have any surveillance video all right let's see how you doing i see you have cameras and
15:45i want
15:45to know if i can take a look at your cameras there you go i need some good cameras yeah
15:52they are that's facing
15:53that way okay that's the backyard the good thing is we find out that this camera actually had sound
16:15the bad thing is once the vehicle got to their cameras it kind of glitched and went by but looks
16:21like a red vehicle speeding down the street they were flying this is extremely surprising to me because
16:28at first i thought that this was a juvenile now i'm looking at an adult possibly involved because
16:32they're driving a car this is a huge lead in the case because it's easier to track a card and
16:39tracks and went on foot i appreciate it you guys have a nice day this is a decent start to
16:47tracking
16:47a perpetrator's car because now i have an idea of his route that he took after the homicide i love
16:53tracking cars pretty good at it i'll give you that if i track this card it's definitely going to lead
16:59me
16:59to my alleged perpetrator
17:21you know i don't think we went to that house well let's go try it out
17:28yesterday we didn't get in touch with a lot of people who had surveillance footage so me and charlie
17:33are going back today to re-canvas what's up bro i did find someone who was outside i talked to
17:41him
17:42he told me that he heard several gunshots i just saw an orange car was it like a sports car
17:48yeah
17:49orange and black which way it went at that way when the witness told me that he saw an orange
17:55and
17:55black sports car i was thinking back to the surveillance footage that i got which showed a
18:00red vehicle speeding down the street as soon as i heard the shot it was so loud i knew it
18:07had to be
18:07close and then like i still heard shots as i'm looking out the door okay but i didn't see nobody
18:18right one to the court right but if they found bullets here that mean that car had to do something
18:23right it had to be involved yeah at this point i don't have any description of the alleged suspect
18:29but someone is in an orange or red car i don't about it because that was a child yeah yeah
18:35he was young
18:36he was a kid renal was just an innocent kid so i'm really trying to work hard to find out
18:44who did this
18:46well i appreciate you man all right thank you thank you i hope so man so the car flies past
18:55here
18:55yeah straight down to odeon there's an rtcc camera right there so if it's slowed down i should have a
19:01pretty good shot of that car if they have something out there man let's go see yeah let's run to
19:06real
19:07time crime center just to see like what that camera have man the first few days is all about
19:17getting video before anything is erased potentially and kind of start piecing that together
19:26because of my background and where i'm from
19:30i feel like i am able to see both sides of the story better than others yeah i'm like an
19:34honorary
19:35hood member you know what i'm saying i love uptown i miss uptown that was my area growing up
19:46a lot of people will think that police don't go through the things that they go through
19:52but i dealt with some of the same things early on as a kid with family members being shot when
19:59i was
20:00eight i was with my dad when he was shot and killed but the thing is we can't let that
20:05affect our jobs
20:06and you don't use that as an excuse
20:34we're looking for cameras on odeon
20:42oh look there they go you saw them yeah yeah that's definitely them so at 8 28 you can see
20:51by the scene is still in a school uniform walking down general meyer with his friend
20:57that's at 8 28 so that's where they'd already walked the sister right okay let me go back
21:07there they go so this is about 10 minutes before maybe somebody like drove past him looked at him maybe
21:18i don't know slowed up something that was missing oh look see it yeah reynard turned left on odeon
21:35and about a minute later at about 8 17 p.m i see the red sports car cuts across a
21:44lane of traffic
21:45almost gets to an accident and follows behind them this is where reynard started being followed
21:53so you think it was looking for him earlier it probably was yeah they had to be stalking him they
22:00had to know
22:00like when they left i think they spotted them maybe walking and was in this lane turn and went behind
22:08them sat there and waited on them and so when they started walking again and knew like what route they
22:15were going to take you know to get back home so they went and posted up and waited for him
22:21kind of ambushed
22:24it is disturbing to see a vehicle following these teenagers because they had no clue what was about
22:30to happen from there i started looking at all the surveillance cameras that surround the crime scene
22:37trying to find out where this car went after the homicide
22:43bro look it looks like a car what time's that 8 31. so right after the homicide happens yeah
23:12and then we couldn't find anything else on it tracking this car
23:23it comes to a halt i know it's a sad situation but it's almost like a game you want to
23:30find out
23:31who these people are and finding out where they went and i'll sit there for hours to do it
24:05how are you doing you working yeah you know who i can talk to about reviewing the cameras
24:10at the pumps when they went 18th monday between 8 05 and 8 15 p.m let's grab your laptop
24:18make sure
24:19we get it so we don't have to bother these guys we appreciate you yeah thank you thank y'all
24:25all right so let me see hopefully we got the red car
24:36what kind of car is that looks like an audi and it has damage to it oh this is great
24:46fast forward a little bit he gets out
24:52see you have a phone in his hands he looks like he's talking to someone
24:58i see a male who seems to be like late teens early 20s skinny build but i can't clearly see
25:05his face
25:06because he's wearing a hoodie and i can't see a license plate it's about 8 0 9 which was minutes
25:14before the murder happened the murder happened at about 8 30. and then he heads back to
25:20odeon which is where he saw the kids at or whatever and then he turned so perfect this is huge
25:29i put out a nopd bolo to law enforcement for any red tutor audi that has damage to the front
25:37pass and the side bumper black rims and dark tinted windows i mean that car should be easy to find
25:56that car should be easy to find out on the right side of the road so we have a database
25:58that's called
25:58field interview cards fics whenever officers come into contact with anyone like even if it's on a
26:05traffic stop it has their information so i ran field interview cards for red audi's and came up with
26:14one that resides maybe a little over a mile from the crime scene it's kind of like a shot in
26:19the
26:19dark and throwing up a hail mary right now at this point
26:25at this point the car could be totally burned up or abandoned somewhere but we still gonna go and look
26:30for it it's crazy because every red car i see every one i know even driving around this past weekend
26:38back here i'm like looking at cars like oh no that one doesn't have rims
26:44right there cadillac not our car though god damn it
26:52i see if you can get a plate on that
27:22it's uptake
27:27expiration looks like zero nine one eight
27:31like that's a fake plate
27:35hey what's up nothing good funny how this works so i just told you about this car and we passed
27:41on
27:42and found it it's parked in a driveway so i just wanted to see if somebody could maybe do a
27:47traffic
27:47stop i'm gonna call ray jones and see if he has some units available to maybe do a takedown on
27:52it or
27:52something like that but it's definitely the car that i've been looking for it has the damage and
27:56everything i call for backup because at this point i do need some mark units because no one is going
28:02to
28:02stop for me i'm driving a black charger you know if i try to light it up then he's probably
28:07just going
28:07to speed off i gotta try and see who this dude is and why why this happened
28:35oh here's a guy coming look like he's getting in a car
28:41he's pulling out
28:45he's moving it went down wilson general meyer
28:51i just get ready to pull on to general meyer all right give me that car
28:59we're looking at this person for a murder we just can't allow this person to speed away from us and
29:05we not try to do whatever we can to get this person into custody he's right there in his left
29:10line oh he's just getting it up go ahead you got it you got it go go take it take
29:15it
29:19this should prove it
29:21sign him up
29:30he's all out he's all out
29:43he ran the light
29:50oh wow
30:06look just chill out i've seen a lot of things before working homicide but i've never seen anything
30:12like that this is probably one of the most chaotic scenes i've ever been on
30:21yeah bro it's out your head bro yes it really is my perpetrator's eyeball is hanging out of his head
30:28i'm trying not to panic because i don't want him to panic and then i hear kids screaming from another
30:33vehicle and just trying to get control of that scene party 161 do you have ems coming towards
30:40cable drive and mcarthur gotta do it in custody he hit like a car with some kids it's a bad
30:4620.
30:49the vehicle that was struck was an unmarked police vehicle and in that vehicle was a sex crimes
30:54detective and her kids so now i'm working extremely hard trying to make sure i get them the care they
31:00need and try to get them transported to the hospital are those kids over yes all right all right
31:07come over here what's your first name spell that for me k-y-m-e-n-i what's your last
31:16name
31:16why how old are you right now i'm feeling a huge relief that i finally found out who was driving
31:25that
31:25car but of course the most important thing was getting him some treatment as well for his eye
31:44so right now i want to do a search warrant on his house oh it has to be i mean
31:49he took off so i mean
31:50and he he he fisted he fisted the uh the build of the guy who was in the car that
31:54night and this is
31:55definitely the car he also threw a gun but officer vix he picked it up off the ground all right
32:04bye
32:05did you see him toss the gun oh yeah he got out and he held like this and he did
32:10that and then i saw
32:11good point kimani white threw a 40 caliber pistol after he crashed his car but that's not the same
32:19caliber as cases that were on my scene the murder weapon is actually a nine millimeter so at this
32:26point i don't have enough to charge kimani for the homicide of reynard but for now we do have our
32:32alleged perpetrator off the streets while we continue working this case so got the search warrant for the
32:39car right here i'll swap that blood right down outside okay i see that phone right there too
32:50finding kimani's cell phone is extremely important because i'm able to do a search warrant on it
32:56and that'll possibly tie him to the crime scene anything in that trunk i'm hoping that i find more
33:05evidence that would help with the investigation hey maybe he left a murder weapon in there that would
33:10be nice and nothing in there
33:18now i had to do a search warrant at kimani wyatt's house where the red audi was seen looking for
33:24any
33:24evidence that can tie kimani wyatt back to the crime scene i'm just proofreading this warrant i'm
33:30going to send this off and we good to go with the search warrant we're just looking for any firearms
33:42possible clothing that ties them back to for that night that the homicide happened
34:07during the search warrant i didn't really find anything so still don't have the murder weapon
34:12but i do have the cart which was a big piece of the puzzle and now i have to start
34:17putting together
34:18like some of the smaller things like cell phone information and stuff like that
34:24so i'm gonna go down here and see if i can talk to kimani wyatt and see if we can
34:28get a statement from
34:28him can't predict what's gonna happen though when this line of work so just gotta roll with it
35:02i don't feel a confession is necessary to get a conviction from kimani the case is circumstantial
35:08i have kimani wyatt's vehicle now all i need to do is place him on that scene during the homicide
35:14with his cell phone records those phone records are important they can prove that kimani was in
35:20that car tonight a homicide and was following the kids and can show where he fled after the homicide
35:30if i don't get these phone records back quickly it's possible that kimani
35:33why i can post bail and skip town but there's no way i'm going to let that happen
36:00today i met with fdi and the phone records
36:04for my case from march put the red audi on scene and a driver that's great that's good information
36:13good information right when he leaves the gas station at 8 14 his phone is traveling towards
36:21a crime scene kimani was possibly called by one of the kids that were having an argument with my victim's
36:29sister and they led him to the location of where reynard and his sister were walking
36:37and then i see him turn on odeon at about 8 17
36:42the phone also turns in that direction and then he kind of stays in that area until about 8 30.
36:48then i got him coming down general meyer he makes a right on merle
36:52and he sits there waits for reynard and his friends to arrive and that's when a murder happens
37:00wow with these phone records i think i have enough to to go ahead and charge him with that murder
37:07right now i'm just trying to figure out how did kimani the 21 year old become involved
37:14the only thing that i know is that reynard's sister was in a verbal altercation with someone else
37:19that she didn't even know did the person she was involved in the argument with know
37:24kimani and call them i mean that's what i'm guessing despite not knowing why this all happened
37:30i think all of the evidence points towards kimani wyatt so good job buddy thanks appreciate it we only
37:37had lemons and now we got lemonade the phone records were definitely the missing piece that i needed to
37:44to write the second degree murder warrant for kimani wyatt for the homicide of reynard williams union
38:08we're going to speak with my victim's mom miss robinson she gave me an address on clear street
