00:30Okay, tell me exactly what happened.
00:33Can you have a clean, dry cloth, a towel to control the bleeding?
00:38Okay, press it down firmly on the wound and don't lift it up to look.
00:41Your age?
00:44How many are injured?
00:45Do you know if Ricky was shot?
00:51Police, EMS, and the fire department.
00:53They're going to be coming, being dispersed to you.
01:006-6-6-6-3-4-S-C-O-2, call a statement.
01:04He was shot in the leg.
01:05Victim is going to be a black male, 13 years of age.
01:08No shirt, blue jeans, gray shoes.
01:11Who all is 911?
01:13What's the location of your emergency?
01:14Ma'am, somebody was just shot up in their car, and the window just blown out, ma'am.
01:19I thought it was firecrackers, until I ran to the door, and I see people screaming and running.
01:25How many shots did you hear?
01:26I don't know.
01:27It's a bunch.
01:28About 10 or 12.
01:29Someone just got shot in front of my apartment.
01:32Okay, ma'am.
01:33I'm putting that information in.
01:35Here, sweetie.
01:36Wake up.
01:37Wake up.
01:38Hey, hey!
01:40Hey!
01:41Ma'am, I'm trying to keep him awake.
01:44It's 6.30, I'm coming in there.
01:466th District, 6th District, 34-S-Code-2, call a station, mail with shot outside the location.
01:51No further information, no suspects.
02:10Start getting back.
02:11Give him space, give him space.
02:13Start giving him space.
02:14We need space.
02:15EMS is going to come.
02:16We need space.
02:17Do you still have a pulse, ma'am?
02:19It's very shallow.
02:20It's in and out.
02:21Okay, can you move your fingers?
02:22Mm-hmm.
02:306th District, 6th District, 34-S-Code-2, call a station.
02:38Hey, Captain, I'm working on 34-S.
02:40It looks like it might turn into a homicide.
02:41I'm working on 34-S-Code.
02:41I'm working on 34-S-Code.
02:55We need to go to 34-S-Code.
03:04We need to go to 35-S-Code.
03:09We got a call Saturday afternoon, a homicide in the 6th District on Ferret Street.
03:17This is one of the housing development areas.
03:22So far, all I know is there's a vehicle that was shot, a male victim, deceased, and a juvenile
03:30victim who was struck by gunfire.
03:33So we're rolling up now.
03:34We'll see what's going on out here.
03:43What's up, fellas?
03:44What's up, dude?
03:47What do we got going on?
03:48So you got a camera right in front of us on that white pole.
03:51Nice.
03:53We're trying to figure out, like, the way it happened.
03:55And we're like, maybe they were driving turned and backed up and went straight backwards.
04:00You saw the car in the corner as a kid?
04:02Yeah, it's like facing this way.
04:04Yeah, it's like backed up.
04:04So I don't know.
04:06And then he jumped out.
04:07From here to there.
04:08That's the only thing I can think of.
04:10Maybe he came in and saw the shooters and tried to back out and go that way.
04:16And I don't know.
04:17I mean, and then backed up into the fence.
04:19He jumped out.
04:20Once his vehicle was disabled, jumped out, took off running down the street where he collapsed.
04:25But that's pretty much it.
04:27We identified the deceased victim as 17-year-old Ricky Hamilton.
04:33He hadn't been in a lot of trouble in his life.
04:37So we didn't know how he became to be involved in this murder.
04:42I'm looking at the cases, like, so you can see, like, there's a cluster over here, then there's a cluster
04:46over here.
04:46So it may be two different shooters.
04:48Maybe they had the same type of bullets in their guns, maybe.
04:53What's up, dog?
04:54So all the cases are right here.
04:56Unless we're missing some cases in the middle of the street, maybe, or got kicked up or something.
05:01But it doesn't really make sense.
05:03But the good news is cameras will probably tell us.
05:06Yeah.
05:07What happened?
05:08Because it's very confusing.
05:10We didn't really have a lot of information.
05:12We can only speculate what happened or what sparked the shooting.
05:15For whatever reason, the two victims came to the apartment complex.
05:20Maybe they were meeting up with somebody.
05:22Could have been mistaken identity.
05:23Could have been a beef that they had with somebody.
05:26And they saw him in the area and decided to shoot at him.
05:29At this point, we have a lot of unanswered questions.
05:32All right.
05:32Well, I'll let you all finish this.
05:34You want to walk down here?
05:36Show me what's going on down here.
05:38You see where the vehicle is?
05:39Yeah.
05:40It appears that whatever happened happened to him here, that had backed up the reverse and crashed the way it's
05:45at.
05:46Okay.
05:47Okay.
05:48If he's around here shooting, bullets would eject this way.
05:55So it's possible that he could have been standing here and shooting at the car, maybe when it was right
06:03there.
06:04If he's standing right here shooting, the bullets would eject to the right.
06:14But we'll have to wait for the cameras to tell us exactly what happened.
06:19If there was a shooter there.
06:23Luckily, the vantage point of the camera seems really good.
06:27So hopefully it gives us a little better picture of what happened.
06:33I don't know.
06:34Let's go down here.
06:35Yeah, yeah.
06:38Look.
06:39On the car, everything is through this side.
06:42So we're thinking this is the one that probably hit the driver.
06:45Mm-hmm.
06:45You get on the other side, you'll see the one through the window.
06:48You can see the damage on this side.
06:53There's out-of-state plates on this car.
06:55The steering column is defeated.
06:57One of the windows is shattered.
07:00It appeared to be a stolen vehicle.
07:03At this point, we don't have much information to go on.
07:05We just know that if for two juveniles to get shot in broad daylight, man, that's tough.
07:11There's a house hit and a car way up the street.
07:19It's the silver car?
07:21Yeah, the silver car.
07:23At this point, we know that one of the victims is currently being treated at the hospital.
07:29The other one died from his injuries.
07:33Both of the victims ran from that vehicle when they were shot at.
07:37Which would make sense, though, because he collapsed right there.
07:39Both of them were running.
07:40Okay.
07:41He collapsed.
07:42I think it's difficult for kids to be kids these days in New Orleans because a lot has changed since
07:47I grew up here.
07:48I mean, we had parks to play in and play football and baseball and stuff like that.
07:53We don't have that anymore.
07:54We don't have that anymore.
07:56Hello?
07:57Hey, dude.
07:58What's up?
08:00I interviewed the kid over here at Children's.
08:02Mm-hmm.
08:03He's got, like, one gunshot wound to his right, like, ankle and through it through.
08:07They're putting a cast on him.
08:08I think they're moving him upstairs for a little bit.
08:11Yeah.
08:11Third floor.
08:12All right.
08:14Um...
08:15But he is saying that he knows the other victim, correct?
08:19Yeah.
08:20Yeah.
08:20Okay.
08:22He says he only knows him as Ricky.
08:24Uh...
08:24He said, Ricky got shot.
08:25He kept running.
08:28All right.
08:30All right.
08:31Do you need me on the scene?
08:32Like, come there before?
08:33No, no.
08:34We're wrapping up.
08:35We're just collecting a few more things and towing this car out of here.
08:39All right.
08:39Appreciate you.
08:41But, yeah.
08:41So, he did say that he was with the deceit.
08:44Okay.
08:45So, when you showed up and saw him, what did you say?
08:48So, he was laying on his back.
08:51Uh...
08:51The two...
08:51I'm assuming they were at the hospital down there.
08:54Two nurses were attended to him.
08:55Shot to the left side.
08:57He didn't have an exit wound.
08:58The driver.
08:59So, that round that went through the door is probably still in your driver.
09:01Oh, okay.
09:02All I know is that...
09:03This was this pretty cool.
09:04...two guys came out of this car, likely.
09:05Yeah.
09:06Ran that direction.
09:07Yeah.
09:08And showed up at hospitals.
09:09Yeah.
09:09Yeah.
09:17Once we get that video, then we have an idea of where we need to go.
09:20Yeah.
09:21Continue tracking maybe suspects.
09:23You know.
09:24You know how we do, man.
09:25It's all good.
09:28Start putting the pieces together.
09:29Yeah.
09:31It gets my brain turning as to what I need to do next in this investigation, which is
09:36to identify the persons responsible as soon as possible.
09:44We have young victims who were shot in a residential neighborhood.
09:48You know, not that we need more fuel for the fire, but this kind of pushes us a little
09:52bit harder.
09:52We have to get these guys off the street.
09:54Because if they do something like that, it probably wasn't their first time.
09:57And if we don't get them, it won't be their last.
10:26Do you have victim information?
10:29Uh, the victim, Ricky Hamilton.
10:32That's R-I-C-K-E-Y.
10:35This was April 27th at 4.54 p.m.
10:43What's going on, everybody?
10:50Performing surgery.
10:51The vehicle had multiple bullet holes that appeared to go from the driver's side to the
10:56passenger's side.
10:58Two different caliber casings that were found on the scene, typically fired out of an AK
11:03rifle.
11:04Entry, I guess?
11:05Yeah.
11:06Yeah.
11:06That way.
11:07The rear windows were shattered.
11:10The working theory that we have right now is that two shooters fired at the vehicle
11:15the victims were in, because it's pretty difficult to fire two rifles with one person.
11:19Can we print the front doors?
11:22Just like the frames and whatnot where you close the doors.
11:25Mm-hmm.
11:27Between the homicide taking place and us searching the vehicle, the vehicle was reported stolen.
11:32I talked to the owner.
11:33She was in town for Jazz Fest.
11:35Hey.
11:36She's like, I know it was there Friday morning, and when we tried to leave Sunday, we found
11:40it gone and there was glass on the ground.
11:42Oh, yeah.
11:43It's definitely stolen.
11:44We can do like this.
11:46Oh, yeah.
11:46This whole thing.
11:47This area here.
11:48Mm-hmm.
11:49We're looking for anything that's gonna help us answer questions we have about motive.
11:54We're looking for fingerprints.
11:56We're looking for firearms.
11:58There was a bullet hole that went from front to back.
12:02Sometimes it'll hit something and fragment, and then another fragment will cause the exit
12:06hole, so they're just checking to see if there's anything lodged in the styrofoam.
12:11Yeah.
12:12Nothing.
12:13Nothing.
12:14Nothing.
12:14We didn't find any weapons in the car, but we have a lot of unanswered questions about
12:20where the victim's vehicle came from, how the victims actually came to be backed onto
12:25the curb, but I'm hoping that the victim's mother can tell me why he was in that area.
12:32Oh, right.
12:34Nothing but DNA and blood.
12:36Fingerprints.
12:37Fingerprint and plants.
13:00Hello?
13:00Hey, Ms. Hamilton, how you doing this morning?
13:03I had better mornings.
13:05How are you?
13:05Yeah, I'm good, I'm good.
13:07I know you're probably still struggling with the whole thing,
13:11but...
13:39Ricky being the victim just added to the confusion
13:42of the motive behind this shooting
13:45because he seemed like a good kid.
13:47He was in school.
13:48He does a lot of stunt bike riding on Instagram.
13:51We don't know why he was targeted, if he was targeted.
13:55And that location where Ricky was murdered at
13:58was a location that Ricky has never been.
14:01Because like I said, I'm a parent first.
14:03Uh-huh.
14:04I've always checked Ricky's location
14:06to see where he was, what he was on.
14:09Ricky's mother was just as confused as I was
14:12about why he was in the Magnolia area.
14:15He didn't have any ties to that area,
14:17and she never knew him to associate with that area.
14:22I'm trying my best, trying to help and find
14:24as much information as I can find for you as well.
14:27No, that's great. I appreciate it.
14:29And sometimes, you know, a lot of times,
14:32people will talk to you before they talk to us.
14:34So that can help as well.
14:36So I'm here for you and here for Ricky.
14:38I appreciate it.
14:39Anything else you hear or find out,
14:42don't hesitate to call me.
14:43Okay, thank you.
14:44All right, no problem. Have a good day.
14:46Our goal is to identify the persons responsible
14:50and put them in jail.
14:53I'm waiting on the clear video
14:55from the apartment complex surveillance company,
14:57but we're able to log into their database
15:00and watch previews of some of the video.
15:04I can pull it up and show them.
15:06Okay.
15:07It was 1654.
15:10All right, now you should see the Kia Pass right here.
15:19See the Kia drive-by?
15:21Is this around the time of the two?
15:22Yeah, this is 52.
15:24It happens right at 50, close to 54.
15:29Yeah, that's crazy.
15:30It drove to that intersection,
15:32but how it turned around and then backed up onto the grass
15:34is a mystery.
15:38The two perpetrators run down out of the parking lot.
15:41They actually both shot towards where the car was.
15:45Mm-hmm.
15:46The victims, two young men.
15:49Suspects appear to be two young men.
15:51Teen-on-teen violence.
15:53Broad daylight shooting a rifle.
15:55It's something that's been going on for a while,
15:57but knowing these neighborhoods,
15:58they don't want this kind of stuff happening.
16:00Gives me a little more fuel to the fire
16:02to go get the people that's responsible.
16:05I wonder where they run to.
16:06Do they run back this way after?
16:08You can see, like, two objects, like, skipping.
16:12Oh, yeah.
16:13And they, like, go from on-camera to off-camera.
16:15Yeah.
16:17But...
16:17Can't tell who they are.
16:19Yeah.
16:19Okay, until we get the other video.
16:22The clips that we have are not great.
16:24They skip and they freeze a lot,
16:26but we know that there's two shooters.
16:29So, I released some still shots internally
16:32through the NLPD email system
16:34to see if anyone recognizes these perpetrators.
16:37Kids outside playing.
16:39Jeez.
16:41Wow.
17:22All right, you ready?
17:24Watch.
17:26So, that's the one that shows the shooting.
17:28Okay.
17:37A high-resolution video that I have now
17:39from the surveillance cameras at the apartment complex
17:43clearly show the two shooters,
17:47their clothing description,
17:49even the weapons that they had.
17:51Unfortunately, with the second shooter,
17:53we don't have a lot to go on because of the mask,
17:57but the unmasked perpetrator had a haircut.
18:00It was pretty tall off the top of his head.
18:02His hairstyle, his build, matched photos of Dennis Wells
18:07from his Instagram that I have received from the SOD.
18:12It's definitely the same dude.
18:15Found another angle I didn't watch.
18:17This goes to the gate on the Washington.
18:25The perpetrator going out that gate.
18:27They walk past him.
18:37They come back like five, ten minutes later with snowballs.
18:40It's quite shocking.
18:42He went and got a snowball about 30 minutes
18:45before shooting a rifle, broad daylight,
18:47in front of everybody, right there in the neighborhood.
18:53Well, it's a fence right there.
18:54Mm-hmm.
18:56I'm going to search for a snowball stand
18:59in walking distance to the apartment complex
19:02to confirm the shooter is Dennis Wells.
19:11That red rooster is the only place they could have made it to
19:15and got back in that amount of time with snowballs.
19:18So we're going to go see if we can get more video of him.
19:23Maybe he uses his debit card or something to buy a snowball,
19:27and then we'll know that he's using a debit card
19:31for Dennis Wells, which could put me over the edge at that point,
19:36but we'll just have to see how they pay and whatnot.
19:47I'm probably going to pick him up.
19:47Hello, how are you all doing?
19:48All right.
19:52Hello.
19:53I was wondering if there was somebody
19:54I could talk to about the cameras.
19:56Oh, it was from a couple of days ago.
20:02Thank you so much.
20:04Watching video footage, unfortunately, he paid with cash.
20:14But based on the video footage and the information
20:18I have from his Instagram pictures,
20:21I hope I can get an arrest warrant for Dennis Wells.
20:41Oh, you got your sign and hand ready?
20:44Yeah, I'm ready.
20:47All right, so you saw the pictures I put out, right?
20:49I did.
20:50Okay, so we'll play that one.
20:54All right, two shooters.
20:56The car just passed.
20:57It's going this way.
20:58That's one shooter.
21:01Wait, so the scene was in the car?
21:03Yeah.
21:04Second shooter.
21:05That's the second shooter.
21:06Okay.
21:07So they go run him off, right?
21:08Okay.
21:09Wow.
21:10Yeah.
21:11So put him out to put him out in OPDO.
21:15I get a dude who used to work in the Six.
21:18He works in the SOD.
21:19They send me this Instagram account.
21:21They say it's him.
21:22Okay.
21:23And the haircut.
21:25Yeah.
21:26You see that?
21:27Wait, what did he do?
21:28The necklace?
21:29Yeah.
21:30Okay.
21:30And you see that?
21:32The same necklace.
21:34And then when he looks, you see the tattoo?
21:37Oh, yeah.
21:38Okay.
21:39And he's tagged right here.
21:42This says Wells Jr.
21:44Mm-hmm.
21:45So we know that this account is for Dennis Wells Jr.
21:50So this is Dennis Wells?
21:51That's Dennis Wells Jr.
21:52And where's his official picture?
21:54These are all Instagram.
21:55Where's his government ID photo with his name and date of birth?
21:58They're, uh, obviously he's young.
22:02Yeah.
22:02That's a young picture.
22:03It's there.
22:04I don't like that.
22:07I mean, it's still comes up as him.
22:12He's not been arrested.
22:13I don't have any criminal history on him.
22:17All right.
22:19Where does he live?
22:22Street.
22:23Maybe.
22:24Not far from that?
22:25It's, no, it's up.
22:26It's in off of.
22:28Uh-uh.
22:28Where's, uh, where's his mom live?
22:29By the Walmart.
22:30That's, we think that's his mom's address.
22:32All right.
22:32Why don't you take this picture and get her to identify it?
22:39Because, you know, if you contact them, you'll be like, oh, son, you're warned if I murdered,
22:43so.
22:43She's gonna call him and be like, oh, hey, the police were here with a picture of you.
22:47I'm not saying it's not him.
22:48Because of past .
22:49But if somebody else saw him and was like, no, that's 100% him, I want somebody on record
22:54saying that.
22:55I agree with that, though.
22:56If one of them say, I'm familiar with him, I know him, it's this guy, cut the warrant.
23:01So the other two things in it, the tattoo on the neck, that's pretty specific.
23:05I think it's huge.
23:05And the chain is great.
23:07The chain is pretty specific.
23:08Like hairstyle, body.
23:09Do you have Instagram?
23:10Yes.
23:11Do you have Instagram?
23:12Yes.
23:12So do I.
23:13Do you need your name to be on Instagram?
23:17No.
23:17Right?
23:18So if I wanted to, I could open up an Instagram account and my name could be Christian Daniel.
23:23Right?
23:24That could be my name.
23:25So the Instagram is not telling us anything.
23:28But the picture of that person.
23:30The picture of the person from government identification is not enough for me to make that identification.
23:39If you put a warrant out for the wrong person, the case is done.
23:43Yeah.
23:44You probably don't come back from that.
23:46At this point, he's definitely at least a person of interest.
23:50Mm-hmm.
23:50Right?
23:51What about having maybe S.O.D. set up on him?
23:55I mean, it's okay to stop him.
23:56You stop him and you see the tattoo on the neck identification.
24:01His name is Blagie Blagie.
24:03Yeah.
24:03Stop him with an ID.
24:05Yeah.
24:05Now we have him as that dude with the tattoo.
24:08I agree.
24:08That same guy.
24:09Okay.
24:09That might be a good option, you know?
24:11I agree.
24:12We want to be 100% certain that we have the right person.
24:15We need to confirm Dennis Wells' identity.
24:18We're thinking maybe we can get with one of our proactive units, our S.O.D. guys, our SWAT guys,
24:23to maybe stop him, get an ID, actually identify him, and actually see him in person.
24:28That's the route we're going to take.
24:29I would say you're about to cross the finish line.
24:33I think one small little nugget and it's over.
24:38Okay.
24:39This is homicide.
24:40We have to be certain about everything that we do.
24:42But I know one thing.
24:43Eventually, we're going to find you.
25:13So, last night, we found out that he had a prior arrest in Louisiana.
25:19It was not local.
25:20That's why I couldn't see it.
25:22He was arrested April 11th, which was 14 days, 15 days before the murder.
25:29Damn.
25:29And they took a booking photo.
25:32Same haircut, same face, same expression.
25:35Yeah.
25:36Same, like, that's, that's, you can see, you can almost see the tattoo.
25:39Yeah.
25:40Right here.
25:40100%.
25:41Yeah.
25:41We find this and I get the arrest warrant.
25:45And so, I call the SOD guys and I was like, hey, you know, saw this happened and now he's
25:51out wanted for the murder.
25:52Nice.
25:52I said, I'm just a person of interest now.
25:53This is a high risk situation because we deal with violent people who could possibly be armed with rifles.
26:00Our SOD guys, our SWAT guys help us out because the most important thing is that everybody goes home safe.
26:20Police!
26:20Police!
26:20Police!
26:21Police!
26:22Police!
26:24Police!
26:24Police!
26:24Police!
26:25Police!
26:34Police!
26:35He said they're coming down.
26:36He said we're bringing them down to you right now, Mike.
26:40When we execute this search warrant, we hope to find the clothing that he was seen wearing that day, as
26:46well as a firearm that matches the ballistic evidence that we have.
26:52While searching the residence, we didn't find any weapons, but we were able to find the chain that he had
27:00around his neck in the surveillance footage.
27:02It is exactly what we're looking for.
27:04It doesn't always happen like that.
27:12But yeah, so we've got the chain.
27:15Yep.
27:15It's really, besides the guns, that's the biggest things.
27:20Yeah.
27:21But the chain was like hidden too.
27:22Yeah.
27:24I'm hoping that Dennis will place himself at the crime scene on that day.
27:30Hey dude, what hand are you?
27:32Right here or nothing?
27:33Right here.
27:34Let's make sure the right hand is free.
27:35As well as tell us any identities that he can give us for the second shooter.
27:45How are you doing, Dennis?
27:52My name is Detective Deesbury.
27:53This is Detective Johnson.
27:55What's up, man?
27:58Um, I'm the lead investigator in that homicide, and my investigation brought me to you.
28:08So do you want to tell me anything about what you know about why you're here?
28:12Or why am I here?
28:14That's what I'm asking you.
28:16I investigated a homicide that occurred last Saturday.
28:20Okay.
28:21Can you tell me where you were on Saturday?
28:23You're in Baton Rouge.
28:24You're in Baton Rouge?
28:26Where at Baton Rouge?
28:27Southern University.
28:28You're at Southern?
28:30Yeah, Southern.
28:30You go to school that day?
28:31School.
28:32School, okay.
28:33This is pretty much your opportunity to tell us, you know, what took place that day
28:38and how you got involved.
28:40Because, at this point in time, I don't think that you can say that you were in Baton Rouge
28:45last Saturday.
28:49All right.
28:50So do you know where we're talking about where this happened at?
28:52No.
28:53You have no idea?
28:54All right.
28:55What about, um, in the Magnolia?
28:57Yeah.
28:58All right.
28:59So I'm asking you, on this day and time, were you back there on that day?
29:04No.
29:05Okay.
29:06So, nobody wouldn't have seen you back there.
29:09There wouldn't be any photographs of you.
29:11Surveillance video.
29:13If you're going to lie to us, bro, just tell us kick rocks and we'll go do what we got
29:16to do.
29:16And then maybe we're talking to the wrong type of .
29:18You understand what I'm saying?
29:20So, we're asking you these questions for a reason.
29:23So, let's go back a little bit.
29:25You get one chance to lie.
29:26We are white.
29:26All right.
29:27We're good with that.
29:28But now it's time to tell the truth.
29:30Okay?
29:31So let's go back to that day.
29:33The day that we're speaking about.
29:34We know that you were not in BR.
29:36We know that you were here.
29:37What happened on that day?
29:46And this is your opportunity to write here.
29:49Now, that's on you if you don't want to take it.
29:51But if you don't want to, you can tell this kick rocks, bro.
29:56I was protecting the kids.
30:14So, what happened?
30:39So, you just saw these dudes in the Kia and you thought that they're about to do it.
30:45That's what that is.
30:46Okay.
30:47She saw, what, the passing by or something like that?
30:50Okay.
30:51I seemed to drop her.
30:52Then I walked up to the gate.
30:54And then I see more averse about to come towards where the kids were.
31:01And that's for me.
31:02Let me say more for me to ask when you started shooting.
31:05Okay.
31:06Let's talk about the other person that was with you.
31:09Who is that person?
31:11Who is his neck?
31:17You have a long life to live.
31:20Right?
31:21How old are you?
31:24Nineteen.
31:25Nineteen.
31:25Right now, it's just you sitting in here.
31:28Not your partners.
31:29I'm giving you the opportunity to tell us who that was.
31:33Because if we find them on our own, then we don't need you.
31:37So, again, I ask you, who was the other guy?
31:41Came around.
31:42Came around what?
31:44Came around.
31:44Came around what?
31:46Came around.
31:46How do y'all know each other?
31:49How long y'all been knowing each other?
31:53A month.
31:54Do you think he had some beef with those dudes or something like that?
31:58That you know?
31:59You think so?
32:01Rob is up?
32:02Did he say anything before the shooting?
32:04Mm-hmm.
32:04I see.
32:05He looked like a kid.
32:08That stuff.
32:09Mm-hmm.
32:11Do you know those guys who got shot?
32:14No.
32:15Okay.
32:16Did you see them?
32:17Because you know stuff travels fast and stuff be on Instagram and all that.
32:20Did you see the pictures of them?
32:22Mm-hmm.
32:23Okay.
32:25Have you heard anything about it?
32:27Like, any by where those dudes are from or anything like that?
32:31Mm-hmm.
32:33Okay.
32:34I didn't even know what I was shooting.
32:36I was just shooting.
32:37Yeah.
32:37Moved away.
32:38Was it y'all two that started shooting?
32:42I think.
32:43Okay.
32:44Mm-hmm.
32:45What did you do with the gun after that?
32:47Mm-hmm.
32:48Well, how did you get on?
32:50Walk home.
32:51That's a nice chunk too.
32:52You walked home with a rifle?
32:55No.
32:56He...
32:56He took the rifle back.
32:58He took it back?
32:59So it's his rifle and that shit?
33:01Mm-hmm.
33:02Okay.
33:02Describe him as best as you can.
33:05Show him the gun.
33:07What is hell of a gun?
33:09Got a little smile on the bus.
33:11Okay.
33:12So you know his Instagram?
33:15Yeah, it is.
33:19Just give us a second.
33:20Give us a second room.
33:21We'll be back.
33:31Okay.
33:32You heard of that dude before?
33:33Yeah, I heard of him.
33:33Go on though.
33:36Look at this picture.
33:38What's going on?
33:39Yeah.
33:39That Magnolia kid, he got out.
33:41Yeah.
33:42Okay.
33:42He blew the gun out on us once when we were doing surveillance.
33:44Okay.
33:45Wow.
33:46Okay.
33:47Let me talk to him and see what we want to do.
33:48Sure.
33:52Did he talk?
33:53Yeah.
33:53Until he was everything.
33:54Any for real?
33:55Yeah.
33:55Good.
33:56Again, he denies him.
33:57I mean, he'd chain everything.
33:58First, he tried to put himself at Southern in Baton Rouge.
34:00Yeah.
34:01And then the rail worked his magic and was like, bro, we know you were in Southern.
34:04Yeah.
34:05Yeah.
34:05What did he say what it was about?
34:07He tried to say that he was protecting kids because he saw dudes in a Kia with push
34:13chises on.
34:14Based on the video surveillance, it appears that this is not self-defense or protecting
34:20kids.
34:22It appears that it was a very clear recognition of the vehicle and them running after the vehicle
34:29to shoot at it.
34:54And then he said that his partner, Karan, was the other dude.
34:58And he said the other shooter.
35:00The one with the bad song.
35:02S.O.D. is familiar with him because he hangs in a magnolia?
35:05Oh, what do you think?
35:06He can work with him on Instagram.
35:07Yeah.
35:08Yeah.
35:09Yeah, the other dude.
35:10We should have a good address on Karan, too.
35:15Karan Antoine posted a picture on Instagram that depicted the same backpack he was wearing
35:21at the time of the homicide.
35:23So that was a big piece of evidence that tied him to the clothing description of the second
35:30shooter.
35:30We'll keep working him just off of his statement, and I'm sure we'll get something.
35:35We're going to compile everything and gather more evidence to try to turn that into arrest
35:40warrant.
35:41Yeah, we'll get him.
35:42Yeah.
36:10I got a call from S.O.D. guys.
36:14They found Karan fairly quickly at a house where he's been hanging out, I think, the last
36:20couple of weeks.
36:22I look like this.
36:23I'm not.
36:24Dave, unlock the car.
36:27What's your last name?
36:30Antoine?
36:31Antoine.
36:31First name?
36:33K-R-K-O-L.
36:38Hopefully we find some good stuff in the house.
36:53Unfortunately we didn't find the AK style rifle that we saw in the video footage.
37:00Put it in the back seat.
37:04But during the search of the home, we were able to find Karan's backpack that he was wearing
37:11at the time of the murder.
37:18And we also found the hoodie he was wearing at the time of the murder.
37:22A burned brown hoodie was in the backyard.
37:30Why would it be burned if you weren't trying to hide what it was?
37:56T-O-I-O-N-E.
38:06Can I get your first name?
38:10K-A-R-O-N.
38:12What's your last name?
38:13T-O-I-E.
38:16Today is June 4th, 2024.
38:187.23 PM.
38:20You have been arrested or detained in connection with the investigation of a crime, more specifically
38:25a homicide.
38:26You have the right to remain silent.
38:28No.
38:29I'm just hoping that he'll give me some sort of a confession or even a lie that he was somewhere
38:33else.
38:33Telling us a lie that we can prove is a lie is still good evidence.
38:38Know anything about my homicide?
38:42Mm-mm.
38:44Nothing at all?
38:47Sure?
38:48Just your one chance.
38:50I don't know what you're talking about.
38:53Okay.
38:56That's fine.
38:58That's the choice you're making.
38:59That's it.
39:01Good luck to you.
39:01No.
39:02It's frustrating that he elected to not talk to us.
39:07The hardest part about this case is not knowing the motive.
39:24As far as evidence goes against the two alleged perpetrators, Dennis and Karan, I feel really
39:31confident on top of surveillance footage.
39:33I got a gold chain as well as a burned brown hoodie and the backpack.
39:41I'm confident that we have a strong case to present to the DA's office and to get convictions.
39:48For me, this case was kind of tough.
39:50You know, it happened broad daylight, dealing with a lot of juveniles.
39:55They're young.
39:56They make mistakes, but they have to face the consequences.
40:04There was obviously, in my eyes, some sort of beef that they had with each other.
40:13But without somebody telling me what that was, it's going to be hard to identify why this shooting took place.
40:20It's frustrating.
40:21I'm going to go put this on the books real quick.
40:23Okay.
40:24And then I'll be over there.
40:25Sound like a plan.
40:26Wrap this up.
40:28Thanks for your help as always.
40:30You know it.
40:32Everything that I've found, Ricky was a good guy.
40:34He didn't get into a lot of trouble.
40:37He was a popular kid and a lot of people knew of him.
40:39You know, was Ricky the target?
40:41Was somebody who was with the target?
40:44It's one of the more difficult things to not be able to answer for the family.
41:05Hello.
41:06Hello, my love.
41:07Come on in.
41:08Thank you for coming.
41:28I still struggle with him?
41:30Same do I.
41:32Because he's supposed to be here with us?
41:35Definitely.
41:41He's supposed to be here.
41:42But now we have to carry on in his name.
41:47We got to keep his name strong, keep his name alive, you know?
41:49And that's why we all here today to talk about this.
41:52I always say, like, giving that call, like, I just literally just screamed.
41:58Because I'm like, it just, it just still doesn't make sense.
42:02We all are broken.
42:04We all have an empty spot in our heart.
42:08Every day is like, I still look for him to call me, him to text me, him to walk through
42:16the door saying, would you cook?
42:19I'm hungry.
42:21I'm not going to get that.
42:23They felt the need to just be out on a beautiful Saturday evening to take such a wonderful life.
42:33I will pray for them.
42:34I will continue to pray for them.
42:37It's just like something's got to change, you know?
42:39Even, like, the kids that were involved and suffered the shooting, like, when they told me, like, nobody's over 19.
42:47We as a community and a city have failed them too.
42:49If that's where they were at by the time, like, you're 19 years old.
42:53We have failed.
42:54We have failed these kids.
42:55We have failed them too.
42:56It is, something has to change.
42:58Yeah.
43:10I guess something has to change.
