00:00:00Previously on Rock the Block...
00:00:02Oh my gosh!
00:00:03Things got spicy tackling the hub of the home.
00:00:06The kitchen and dining area!
00:00:09Two teams went all in, chasing their first win of the season.
00:00:14I mean, is it weird if I cry over a hood?
00:00:16While Scott and Brooke's dreamy Vegas designs...
00:00:19We just did all the same.
00:00:21...began looking a little too familiar.
00:00:24I'm starting to second-guess this plan.
00:00:26And Kim and Chelsea took massive risks,
00:00:29chasing that winning feeling.
00:00:31That mirror is sick.
00:00:33Welcome back to the block!
00:00:34Loveter Listed's Paige Turner arrived.
00:00:37Oh my gosh. It's huge.
00:00:39Yeah.
00:00:39Ready to judge their spaces.
00:00:41Wow, this is gorgeous!
00:00:43But in the end, Scott and Brooke pulled off another victory...
00:00:47...as they won their second challenge in the first three weeks.
00:00:52Tonight, the competition takes a whole new turn...
00:00:55...as our teams create the multi-gen suite.
00:00:58I know how Vernon feels.
00:01:00I hate it with all my heart.
00:01:01I think we need to pivot here.
00:01:03This week's judges, it's you guys!
00:01:06What?
00:01:07No!
00:01:08Being judged by your peers, it's something that you fear the most.
00:01:11Really cool.
00:01:12Oh, yeah!
00:01:13Hey!
00:01:15Get out of here!
00:01:16We have a fireplace!
00:01:17Look at that tile!
00:01:19I hate that light picture. It's really ugly.
00:01:20I was honestly disappointed.
00:01:35Good morning, teams, and welcome to week four on the block!
00:01:40Hey, there we are, week four.
00:01:42Now let's give a big congratulations to last week's kitchen and dining room winners.
00:01:47Scott and Brooke!
00:01:49Woo!
00:01:49Yeah!
00:01:51We got the win. We've taken two out of three. I feel like we're unstoppable now.
00:01:56Yeah, I would say we're rock and rolling.
00:01:58It's getting a little old.
00:02:00So you guys took the $3,000 to use in this week's spaces.
00:02:04That's right.
00:02:05Still feel like you made a good decision?
00:02:07Absolutely.
00:02:07I love more money.
00:02:09So teams, you guys have dazzled with your designs and now the curtain's up on a brand new challenge.
00:02:17This week is the multi-gen suite.
00:02:20Oh, I've been waiting for this.
00:02:22Man!
00:02:23Here we go.
00:02:24Scott's favorite part.
00:02:25250 square feet of living space and a bathroom, all walled off from the rest of the house
00:02:32with an entrance off the courtyard.
00:02:34A full living space with lots of opportunities to add value.
00:02:39And for this challenge, you must add a kitchenette in order to make it into a true suite.
00:02:45So teams, you have seven days to complete the multi-gen suite.
00:02:49Don't forget, Wayfair will be supplying your decor and furniture.
00:02:54You guys ready?
00:02:55Yes, sir.
00:02:56Well, here we go.
00:02:57Three, two, one, get to work, people!
00:03:00Good luck!
00:03:02Good luck!
00:03:03Good luck!
00:03:04Good luck!
00:03:09Bye!
00:03:10Week four!
00:03:11This is the one I've been waiting for!
00:03:14I'm excited!
00:03:15You know, this is a really decent size for a mother-in-law suite or an apartment rental.
00:03:19Short-term rental.
00:03:20Yeah.
00:03:20Let's flex our skills.
00:03:22This is our week.
00:03:23If we don't win this week, it's embarrassing.
00:03:26You do rental properties, I do rental properties.
00:03:29This is my wheelhouse.
00:03:30So, let's take a look at this space because it's been haunting my brain of what we can
00:03:35do and figure out how we turn this into the profit maximizer for our property.
00:03:40Yes.
00:03:41Whoever's living here is likely here for six months.
00:03:44Right.
00:03:44They're doing, you know, some work in Vegas.
00:03:47Can I point out what I don't like?
00:03:48Yeah, please.
00:03:49Why do we have this little cubbyhole that's like literally as long as I am?
00:03:53Can we make it wider?
00:03:54Because I feel like I'm in a trailer.
00:03:57Okay.
00:03:58Just a second.
00:03:59Hold your horses.
00:04:03I feel like you were waiting for it.
00:04:05I was waiting for it.
00:04:06First thing I would say is...
00:04:08100% make a bedroom.
00:04:10If we're mapping this out, this is what you've got for a living room.
00:04:14That is tiny.
00:04:18Even though it's a tiny space, you still need a fridge, a stove, a sink, and a dishwasher.
00:04:24I know it sounds crazy, but it adds a ton of value to a rental suite.
00:04:27So dishwasher sink in the island, and that frees up this for the fridge and the stove.
00:04:33Yes.
00:04:34That works.
00:04:34I think that's a good idea.
00:04:35That's cute.
00:04:37And now here's our next problem.
00:04:39So this is the bedroom wall.
00:04:41The door's over there.
00:04:42This becomes part of the bedroom.
00:04:44Okay.
00:04:44We take the bathroom.
00:04:46Oh yeah, this is going to be a problem.
00:04:47Uh-oh.
00:04:48What?
00:04:48If we move the door over to there, we have to move the toilet to here.
00:04:54Right.
00:04:54The vanity plumbing over to there.
00:04:56Take the window, put it over here.
00:04:59It's going to be a few thousand bucks to move this around.
00:05:02But it'll be totally worth it because you don't want to see that toilet right away.
00:05:05Okay.
00:05:06So since we stole from all of our budgets to do the kitchen, we need to figure out how
00:05:13we're going to accomplish this situation.
00:05:15We go for the win with a different approach.
00:05:17Okay.
00:05:17Which is practical.
00:05:19I know it's not always the sexiest thing, but our budget for this is 20,000 bucks.
00:05:25Oh my God.
00:05:26Easy.
00:05:26I feel like this is one where we can come in under budget.
00:05:29Yes.
00:05:30The main house is our love.
00:05:32Okay.
00:05:33If that doesn't work out.
00:05:35This is our red Corvette and our side girlfriend.
00:05:37This is, then you marry the moneymaker.
00:05:40Got it.
00:05:41Main house is for love.
00:05:42Week four, we're doing it for the money.
00:05:44Yes.
00:05:51One of the things to think about is do we want to create an actual bedroom?
00:05:54And does that matter A for our design or B for appraised value?
00:05:58Because if we create a bedroom in here with a wall, we have the same end result on an appraisal.
00:06:05This being one big space adds a bedroom to the appraisal.
00:06:09Us cutting this in half and making it a private bedroom adds one bedroom to the appraisal.
00:06:15Although we have a couple losses under our belt, we are not the type to be deterred by that.
00:06:20We're just going to keep our head down.
00:06:22We're going to keep doing our work.
00:06:24Follow the plan.
00:06:26Hopefully, hopefully get our first win.
00:06:30Hopefully.
00:06:31I don't think we should put a wall up.
00:06:33You want to have it nice and open.
00:06:34I think.
00:06:34Like a studio.
00:06:35You had a studio feel.
00:06:36Yeah, yeah.
00:06:37Right?
00:06:37So maybe make this space kind of living room slash bedroom.
00:06:41Right.
00:06:41Maybe like a structured day bed, a couple of occasional chairs.
00:06:45I do think one of the things we're going to want to put money into is making this a kitchen,
00:06:49not a kitchenette.
00:06:50A full kitchen on an appraisal is going to get us significantly more than a kitchenette,
00:06:55which is a mini fridge and a sink.
00:06:57At least a 30-inch sink base, a 24-inch dishwasher, a 30-inch stove.
00:07:01We're going to have to pull around here, which is going to mean getting into these windows
00:07:05and bringing them up above our countertop.
00:07:09Counter height might be more my hip than your hip because you're much shorter than me.
00:07:14It's about.
00:07:15I got boots on.
00:07:16Look, that's like bar height.
00:07:18My hip is counter height.
00:07:19Your hip is bar height.
00:07:21But I think we have all the parts for the value.
00:07:24We've got the full kitchen.
00:07:25Over here, we've got a full bathroom.
00:07:27Yep.
00:07:27That other than making pretty, like we don't have to do a ton.
00:07:32There's no need to change the layout.
00:07:34Finish-wise, what do you think?
00:07:35I think we should just keep it all neutral.
00:07:37I love that.
00:07:38I think that appeals to the most amount of people.
00:07:40I feel like we can be a little bit more budget-friendly in this accessory unit than we have been
00:07:46in the main house and still make it comfortable and still make it elegant.
00:07:50Perfect.
00:07:51Easy peasy.
00:07:51I'm good with that.
00:07:52I feel like designing small spaces is a double-edged sword.
00:07:56On one hand, you just have less decisions to make, but you have to be very thoughtful because you have
00:08:02to make the best use of every single square foot.
00:08:04You know, I would love to put my grandmother in here.
00:08:07Everything's here.
00:08:08You know, the functionality, hits and bids.
00:08:10Stick with the plan.
00:08:11Comfort elegance.
00:08:12Bedrooms, bathrooms.
00:08:14We got it.
00:08:15Where do you think we're going to land budget-wise?
00:08:17I'd say anywhere between $20,000 and $25,000.
00:08:19I think if we can stay under $25,000, that would be a good investment in this space to get
00:08:25us from a bathroom and a kitchenette to a full rental apartment.
00:08:30That makes sense.
00:08:30I feel good about that.
00:08:31I feel good about it, too.
00:08:32Okay.
00:08:35We're getting good at that.
00:08:36We're getting good at that.
00:08:38No pain.
00:08:39No point.
00:08:40No fear.
00:08:40No fame.
00:08:41No story.
00:08:42Welcome to the show.
00:08:44Welcome to the end of the road.
00:08:45You want to win it all?
00:08:47Better be ready to go.
00:08:51Okay, so what the heck are we going to do in here now?
00:08:54What do you think?
00:08:55Point take.
00:08:55You're a big family guy.
00:08:57Yeah.
00:08:57I'm a big family person.
00:08:58I love having family over and I feel like it'd be nice for them to have their own space.
00:09:04Like a guest house-ish.
00:09:06Slash in-law suite.
00:09:08Okay.
00:09:09We've got this multi-gen suite.
00:09:11We want it to feel special and unique, but also a place where anyone from the age of two to
00:09:17a hundred would want to stay.
00:09:18What if it's a baby?
00:09:20Babies don't want to stay there?
00:09:21No.
00:09:21Two days?
00:09:23I mean...
00:09:24All right, so we get a little kitchenette over here.
00:09:26Okay.
00:09:26We can do like a little cooktop, a microwave, a small fridge.
00:09:29Just tiny little things.
00:09:31If we did some sort of island or peninsula here.
00:09:34Yeah.
00:09:34We can do a couple of stools on the other side.
00:09:36And then a bed as the centerpiece of the room for the ultimate studio vibe.
00:09:43This is going to be the bad mamma jammer right here.
00:09:45I love the tall ceiling heights, but the tall ceiling heights add money to the budget.
00:09:50Yeah.
00:09:50Yeah.
00:09:51I don't love when I see tiles stop.
00:09:53And it ends.
00:09:53Yeah.
00:09:53I agree.
00:09:54So we figure out some sort of tile.
00:09:56Get a nice, really cute vanity.
00:09:59And we do want to go for that hotel luxe.
00:10:02Yes.
00:10:03Vibe here.
00:10:03So now it's like livable hotel luxe.
00:10:06So we have about maybe $10,000 to $15,000, which is not a lot of money, I know, but...
00:10:12I want to do the $10,000, please.
00:10:13Yeah.
00:10:14We spent the majority of our budget in the first three weeks, and we have zero wins to show for
00:10:19it.
00:10:19So I think for us, we really have to figure out a way to get creative and stretch the dollar,
00:10:25because we have a lot of space that we still have to do and not a whole lot of budget
00:10:29left to do it with.
00:10:30I want to prove to everybody that we can bring it on a low budget, but really amp up the
00:10:37finishes
00:10:37and make it feel super homey, comfortable, moody, all the things.
00:10:43Show them how it's done.
00:10:45Let's get it.
00:10:45We got it. We got this.
00:10:53For some reason, this room throws me off the whole time.
00:10:56I've kind of been like not wanting to get here, but here we are.
00:10:58The obvious thing to do here to add value is to make this, you know, where someone could rent it
00:11:06out or...
00:11:08I buy a $3 million house. I am not having a short-term rental in the front of my home.
00:11:14That makes sense.
00:11:15What is it that we're missing in the house that's here that it's like, oh, let's go to this room
00:11:20and...
00:11:22Do the thing that we do?
00:11:23Do the thing.
00:11:25Not the thing.
00:11:26Well, I do love the idea of like a tucked away space where you could really put on like a
00:11:31real movie.
00:11:32Like an entertainment movie room.
00:11:35Yeah.
00:11:35Are you thinking like making it feel like a theater?
00:11:38I mean, I wasn't, but I can.
00:11:41I'm now getting excited about the multi-gen space.
00:11:44I knew it was going to come around.
00:11:46Okay.
00:11:47Okay, so how would we lay this out?
00:11:48It's a tight room.
00:11:49How would we do this?
00:11:50Get rid of this box.
00:11:52And that gives us this place to like do the big screen.
00:11:55You know, and still give a door that'll connect to the house right here.
00:11:59We could put this door here to the courtyard.
00:12:02And now we have this full wall for our kitchenette.
00:12:05Okay.
00:12:05Shag carpet.
00:12:07Yay, I get my shag carpet.
00:12:09Drapes.
00:12:10Yeah.
00:12:12So are you saying like festoon it?
00:12:14Yeah.
00:12:14Like a circus tent?
00:12:16That is very famous.
00:12:17But not do like red and white fabric, but...
00:12:20Okay.
00:12:20But circus, circus.
00:12:22Theater it out.
00:12:23Sure.
00:12:24What I love is that it does have a bathroom.
00:12:26You're not having to walk through the whole house to find the bathroom.
00:12:29So let's take a look and see what we've got available in here.
00:12:33I feel like there's an opportunity here to just like make this feel sick.
00:12:36Do something smoky and cool.
00:12:37Yeah.
00:12:37Bring in the smoky sexy in here, right?
00:12:40Cool wallpaper.
00:12:41Cool tile.
00:12:42Sure.
00:12:43Cool sink.
00:12:43Call it a day.
00:12:44Totally.
00:12:45I feel like this is not like a space that we're wanting to blow our budget on.
00:12:49There's no need to do that.
00:12:50Do it for like what?
00:12:5210, 15 K.
00:12:53Use your calculator and...
00:12:55Yes, we can do it for 15.
00:12:57Let's do it.
00:12:58Okay.
00:12:58This is good.
00:12:59This is a plan.
00:13:00I like it.
00:13:00Me too.
00:13:01Can't get it back into the house.
00:13:02We have to go this way.
00:13:03That's gonna change.
00:13:04We're changing.
00:13:05I wonder if we're the only ones doing that smart move.
00:13:07I hope so.
00:13:08I think it's really smart.
00:13:21Holy Toledo.
00:13:22We want to get everything moved.
00:13:24We're cutting out for the new window.
00:13:25We want to move the window over.
00:13:26We're excited.
00:13:27We're working fast.
00:13:28Yeah.
00:13:29I'm gonna move this guy over.
00:13:30Ah!
00:13:31Oh my God!
00:13:32Scott!
00:13:33Ah!
00:13:33What?
00:13:34Oh my God!
00:13:36Oh my God, Scott!
00:13:37Hold on to this.
00:13:38Hold on to this.
00:13:39Hold on to what?
00:13:41Freaking water's on.
00:13:42Ah!
00:13:45Brooke!
00:13:46Hold it!
00:13:48Jeez.
00:13:49Look out.
00:13:50Look out.
00:13:51Oh my God!
00:13:54Where's the water shut off?
00:13:59Where's the water shut off?
00:14:01Ian!
00:14:02What the hell happened?
00:14:04Hold up.
00:14:05Hold up.
00:14:06Yeah.
00:14:07Water.
00:14:09Water is on.
00:14:11Water is on.
00:14:14I don't trust you.
00:14:16I know I'm gonna have to run.
00:14:17There's still gonna be water in here.
00:14:19No, I just turned it off.
00:14:20It's fine.
00:14:21It's done.
00:14:21Yeah.
00:14:21I don't trust you!
00:14:23I don't trust you!
00:14:23I don't trust you!
00:14:23Oh my God!
00:14:25It's all in my boobs!
00:14:27So my boss, who is awesome at everything, didn't know that the water was still on, and
00:14:33he cut a water line.
00:14:34To be fair, the main was off, but the multi-gen is on a separate meter.
00:14:41Uh, so what exactly are we gonna do?
00:14:42Like, does this create mold or something now?
00:14:45Swampy drywall is no good.
00:14:46Oh my gosh.
00:14:47Just for good measure, I'm gonna pull all the drywall off so we don't get any mold.
00:14:51It's a little bit of extra work.
00:14:52It's a little bit of extra time, but...
00:14:54Any extra money?
00:14:55It's gonna cost us a couple hundred bucks to replace some wet drywall and insulation.
00:14:59Probably not the best start when we're trying to pinch pennies here.
00:15:02When you try to do things fast, sometimes it costs a little more money.
00:15:07Okay, we're gonna let this dry out for the night, and then we'll re-tackle it tomorrow.
00:15:20I'm gonna take a nap. You take the lead off.
00:15:23Oh gosh.
00:15:24I love that Paige got our creativity last week.
00:15:27I walked in and I was like, this is sexy. This is creative.
00:15:31But we really need another Paige this week because this is going to be, quite possibly, the most creative space
00:15:38in the whole house.
00:15:39I wanna set the scene here to like, when you walk in the door, you know it's a movie room.
00:15:44Right. Love that.
00:15:45I say we just drape this everywhere.
00:15:49To festoon or not to festoon?
00:15:52That's the question.
00:15:54That is the question. And we have decided to festoon.
00:15:57I'm gonna have to start somewhere.
00:15:59Right.
00:16:01Not only can I not see what Chelsea has in mind, I'm very concerned about the execution of it.
00:16:07She doesn't trust my judgment.
00:16:10It's not that. I just, I can't imagine how we're going to do this and make it look good.
00:16:14Like, if we had a professional festooner on board, I would feel better.
00:16:17But this is, this is a risky choice.
00:16:20If you're gonna go all in, go all in. Like, let's do it on the ceiling, the walls, everywhere.
00:16:26Double down.
00:16:27Yeah. It's gonna be awesome.
00:16:30That's good, that's good.
00:16:31Okay, okay, okay.
00:16:32Funky.
00:16:33Not necessarily smoky sexy.
00:16:35I think it's kind of sexy. I think draping fabric all over the walls and ceiling does feel sexy to
00:16:41me.
00:16:42I'm ready for wallpaper. Come on now.
00:16:46Wow.
00:16:46Well, I thought, when I said let's elevate the design, I mean, you took it, you took it a little
00:16:50too seriously.
00:16:51I know how Vernon feels.
00:16:53How great does that feel?
00:16:55It's wallpaper day.
00:16:57Somebody here loves wallpaper.
00:17:01We need to get your long pants that no one would ever know.
00:17:05I do.
00:17:06Hey!
00:17:08Well, what's up, buddy?
00:17:09We're just trying to elevate the design in here as well.
00:17:12Yeah, you guys are levitating.
00:17:13Yeah.
00:17:14It's good.
00:17:15Ty, our entire house is wallpaper.
00:17:18Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:17:19Like, it's real subtle.
00:17:21It's, yeah, because we...
00:17:22I mean, from a distance, you won't even be able to see that there's a pattern there.
00:17:25We don't want to be distracting.
00:17:27Like, everything about our space is about texture and movement.
00:17:30What do you guys feel about the other teams?
00:17:32Like, who is your...
00:17:33You know what I mean?
00:17:34Like, you've got to size up your opponents.
00:17:36Like, who do you need to knock down?
00:17:38Everybody knows what Scott and Kim and Mina do.
00:17:42I mean, we've been watching it on TV for years.
00:17:44Yeah.
00:17:45The wild card is what Brooke, Chelsea, and Vernon do.
00:17:49Bottom line is, you guys are good at what you do.
00:17:52You seem to be working well together.
00:17:53And we just love having you here on the block.
00:17:55So, good luck.
00:17:56Keep it going.
00:17:57And I'll see you out there.
00:17:59Thanks, Ty.
00:17:59Appreciate it, Ty.
00:18:01Mina, this is a really nice choice for just a rental.
00:18:04I mean, we're giving them something really classy here.
00:18:07Yeah, well, I mean, we want to make sure it kind of fits with, like...
00:18:10Yeah.
00:18:11...the vibe of the rest of the house.
00:18:12Yeah.
00:18:13And is it...
00:18:14Like, we could probably get away with lower end,
00:18:16but if it was someone who is going to use this for another family member...
00:18:20Yep.
00:18:21...and not as a rental, like...
00:18:23You wouldn't...
00:18:24You would never skimp on your grandma.
00:18:26You'd be like, you get the best tile and the best cabinets.
00:18:29His grandma is his ride or die.
00:18:32So, I could see him being in a home like this and, you know, her still wanting her own space,
00:18:35but being able to be right there.
00:18:37She's, like, the most important thing in the world to him.
00:18:40I think it's going to look really dramatic once we finish, but it's also going to look super elegant and
00:18:45it's going to feel like it's truly different.
00:18:49It separates itself from anything, any other bathroom.
00:18:53Mm-hmm. I hope so.
00:18:55Because it's unique.
00:18:56Yeah, let me do it.
00:18:57Get your hands dirty.
00:18:58Let me get dirty.
00:18:58Mine are dirty now.
00:18:59Yeah.
00:19:00I'm very nervous about letting Vernon down, and I want to be mindful to make sure that he feels like
00:19:06he has skin in the game so he feels included, but also so if we don't win, it's just not
00:19:11completely my fault.
00:19:12I would like to share the blame with Vernon if we don't win.
00:19:16It's weird.
00:19:17It doesn't match anything.
00:19:18We have a problem.
00:19:19This is not looking awesome.
00:19:21This is your next design surprise.
00:19:25Oh!
00:19:25Oh, my gosh.
00:19:26It's very traumatic.
00:19:28Very traumatic.
00:19:30Okay.
00:19:31So, how exactly do these go together?
00:19:34Well, how do you normally deal with your exes?
00:19:36I break them.
00:19:39We are planning on doing something pretty much insane.
00:19:42Something I've never done before, which is cover the entire bathroom with this tile.
00:19:48But it's not going to look like somewhere where, like, like a fast food bathroom.
00:19:53It's either going to be, like, the best thing the judges have ever seen.
00:19:56Or the worst thing.
00:19:59It's going to look like a funky income property.
00:20:02Oh, God, I hope you're right.
00:20:03Because doing it everywhere, like, that much of it is a little intense.
00:20:07I was nervous about the tile, but then thinking back to Nashville, people sometimes like a little kind of thing.
00:20:12It's a little crazy.
00:20:12So, we went a little crazy.
00:20:15I'm really banking on the appraisers coming through and seeing the value of having an income suite here.
00:20:22And also understanding that there aren't a lot of premium rental properties.
00:20:27If there's a certain expectation in Vegas, we need to exceed it.
00:20:31Yes, our main home is modern Hacienda, but this one here.
00:20:35This is modern, crazy Cachienda.
00:20:39Cachienda!
00:20:40Oh, my God!
00:20:42I can't see any of our competitors putting this much effort into the quality of the work.
00:20:47I don't think anybody has a professional like you.
00:20:49Don't underestimate our competition.
00:20:51That's true.
00:20:52Way prettier than I thought it was going to be.
00:20:56So, if we do the bed over there, then maybe we'd make this sort of like a living room-ish
00:21:00area?
00:21:01Yeah.
00:21:01It's a sitting area.
00:21:02I mean, we have so much of that tambour.
00:21:04It brings instant warmth.
00:21:06Mm-hmm.
00:21:07You know, I feel like it also makes it cohesive with the rest of the house.
00:21:10Maybe we just turn at the angle, change it up.
00:21:13Horizontal?
00:21:13I mean, horizontal's cool.
00:21:14And we can frame around the whole perimeter, and we can put light running through tape light.
00:21:20Okay.
00:21:20That is going to make it look so high-end.
00:21:23We're in Las Vegas.
00:21:24I want to make sure that we bring the Vegas charm, but not tacky, not wild and crazy.
00:21:30Just something that's livable.
00:21:32I think it would be a great moment.
00:21:33Love it.
00:21:34And also, we don't have to keep it wood.
00:21:37We can put it up as wood.
00:21:38Yeah.
00:21:38But we have this throughout.
00:21:41I know.
00:21:41Well, I don't know what it is.
00:21:42We're going to paint wood.
00:21:44Men and painting wood is such a problem.
00:21:46I don't understand why.
00:21:48Look how beautiful it is.
00:21:48I know we have it all throughout the house.
00:21:50I can't.
00:21:52I'll leave you and your wood alone.
00:21:54We can have a moment together.
00:21:55You smell so good.
00:21:57Get a room.
00:21:58Have you ever seen one of these?
00:22:00No, but this is the coolest thing.
00:22:02It is cool.
00:22:03And I can't wait to see how this works.
00:22:06I am so, so obsessed with this invisible cooktop for this space in particular, because it
00:22:12kind of preserves our vintage movie theater vibes and that this space could be anything
00:22:17if somebody wanted to use it as a guest suite.
00:22:19It just heats up through induction through your standard countertop.
00:22:23So you'll sit the pot directly on the countertop.
00:22:25It uses induction heating and cooks through this surface.
00:22:29Part of what I love about this is I feel like we focused more on the flex of this.
00:22:35Like this is an example of we still have a full kitchenette.
00:22:38I'm sure they do too.
00:22:40I feel like a lot of the teams are going to stage this as a guest suite.
00:22:43This can easily be a guest suite, but by like connecting it to the house, simple touch like this,
00:22:48not focusing so much on closet space.
00:22:50I do think this makes this more malleable to like whatever the buyer wants it to be.
00:23:10So we're walking up to the block and it looks like they have some sort of wedding set up.
00:23:15And I'm wondering if they're going to hitch us for life.
00:23:19Wow.
00:23:21What could it be?
00:23:27Wow.
00:23:28Okay.
00:23:29This is a lot and I don't want.
00:23:31Oh my God.
00:23:33Oh my God.
00:23:36Oh my God.
00:23:38Yes.
00:23:39Elvis.
00:23:40Thanks for the ride.
00:23:43Thank you very much.
00:23:44Ty driving up with Elvis.
00:23:47It's a pink Cadillac.
00:23:49Viva Las Vegas.
00:23:50What more could you ask for?
00:23:52That's like the trifecta.
00:23:53It's the tyfecta.
00:23:57Hello teams.
00:23:59What a way to arrive.
00:24:02That is so cute.
00:24:04Did you know that Las Vegas is the wedding capital of the world?
00:24:09For that reason, I thought we'd say yes to your next design surprise.
00:24:14Oh no.
00:24:14No.
00:24:15I'm sure you've all, you know, heard the saying when you get married, you must have something
00:24:19old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.
00:24:26That's right.
00:24:28Am I the old?
00:24:29And the blue.
00:24:31Each team will choose one of the four ropes and ring the corresponding wedding bell, at
00:24:38which time a banner will reveal a category, old, new, borrowed or blue.
00:24:44So if you get blue, you and your teammate will choose two items from the blue pew to use
00:24:50your multi-gen suite design.
00:24:52You must use both items.
00:24:55If you get old or new, same deal.
00:24:58We're definitely hoping to get old because we like this idea of incorporating an old thing
00:25:03into each space and we don't have anything old for the multi-gen.
00:25:06So we feel like that would be a good choice for us.
00:25:08You will only have 45 seconds to ring the bell.
00:25:11Find your pew and choose your two items.
00:25:15If you get borrowed, this is where it gets fun.
00:25:19Yep, you can steal an item from your fellow teams if they have something you want.
00:25:24I would take from Scott.
00:25:25I would feel bad taking from any of the other teams.
00:25:27I would not feel bad taking from Scott.
00:25:29Me neither.
00:25:31All right, teams.
00:25:32So we drew numbers.
00:25:33Me and Vernon, you guys drew one.
00:25:35So you go first.
00:25:36Come on, guys.
00:25:37Are you ready?
00:25:38Oh, boy.
00:25:39Here we go.
00:25:40Three, two, one, go!
00:25:45Oh!
00:25:46You guys got borrowed!
00:25:48Oh!
00:25:49Come on!
00:25:50Don't be a hater!
00:25:51Voila, we get borrowed.
00:25:53Wow, borrowed right off the bat.
00:25:55Nice.
00:25:55That was a good one.
00:25:56Which is a great position to be in.
00:25:58We can have whatever we want.
00:26:00Me and Vernon, you can borrow your items at the end after the other three teams have
00:26:05gone.
00:26:05Scott and Brooke, you're next.
00:26:07All right, here we go.
00:26:08Three, two, one, go!
00:26:10Give it up!
00:26:13Red!
00:26:13Red, okay.
00:26:15Oh!
00:26:16Oh, my God!
00:26:17Very traumatic.
00:26:18Very traumatic.
00:26:19All I see is red, and I was like a bull.
00:26:21I was just like, boom!
00:26:22Word!
00:26:23We'll take whatever these are.
00:26:24You get two things!
00:26:26Two things!
00:26:26That's a matching set.
00:26:27Wow!
00:26:28First thing I saw were these big, beautiful...
00:26:33Balls.
00:26:34Balls.
00:26:36Oh, my God.
00:26:37I had to grab them.
00:26:38One!
00:26:39Time's up!
00:26:39I'm marrying somebody with a lot of plastic surgery.
00:26:42I think that brass faucet is going to give us a competitive edge because that's a save for us.
00:26:47We were going to have to spend a couple hundred bucks on a faucet.
00:26:50So we can invest that money somewhere else.
00:26:52These, this is...
00:26:54It's a velvet ottoman bench.
00:26:56We were pretty smart with picking something that might actually add value.
00:27:00That's right.
00:27:00All right, Kim and Chelsea, are you ready?
00:27:02Yes, sir.
00:27:03We're ready.
00:27:04Three, two, one, go!
00:27:07All right!
00:27:08Old or blue?
00:27:08Old or blue?
00:27:09You want blue?
00:27:10Oh, man.
00:27:10Of course.
00:27:11Old, old, old, old!
00:27:13What do we got here?
00:27:14Oh!
00:27:15Okay, okay.
00:27:16Okay, calm, cool, and collected.
00:27:18That's amazing.
00:27:19Do we want that instead, or do we like ours?
00:27:20The Tiffany lamp's kind of cool.
00:27:22Let's take our time and like really think this through.
00:27:26That and...
00:27:27Yeah.
00:27:28Yes.
00:27:28All right, we've got some items here.
00:27:31All right.
00:27:31You have that light touch.
00:27:32Okay.
00:27:33Double fist in the lighting.
00:27:34Nice.
00:27:35We very badly needed like a chandelier upgrade for our festooning tent situation, and this was
00:27:42absolutely the icing on the cake.
00:27:44Yeah.
00:27:44And I found a really cool lamp that has a little shimmy to it.
00:27:48I feel like it gives moody movie theater vibes.
00:27:52Swag.
00:27:52Next up, we've got Tanya and Drew.
00:27:55I got a funny feeling you're getting something blue.
00:28:01Three, two, one, go!
00:28:04What's it gonna be?
00:28:05What's it gonna be?
00:28:07Oh!
00:28:07Yay!
00:28:09Oh!
00:28:09Shocking.
00:28:10Second.
00:28:11Okay, all right.
00:28:12Okay.
00:28:12I don't even know how to incorporate blue into the designs.
00:28:16What is this?
00:28:16Flooring tile.
00:28:17Tile.
00:28:18Don't do tile.
00:28:19Don't do tile.
00:28:20For us, I think the biggest challenge is just incorporating it somehow.
00:28:24Uh...
00:28:25Son of a bench!
00:28:27Four, three, two, one!
00:28:30Time!
00:28:31Oh my gosh!
00:28:33Wow!
00:28:34That looks bad!
00:28:35Tell us what you picked!
00:28:36We've got this fine bench and these gorgeous cobalt blue vessels.
00:28:41Okay, so, Mina and Vernon, you have 45 seconds to pick from basically everything.
00:28:47Wow.
00:28:47Including the things that the other teams are holding.
00:28:49So much good stuff.
00:28:50Okay.
00:28:51But you can only leave with two items.
00:28:53Okay.
00:28:53We're kind of surprised by the other teams leaving what seems to be all the good items behind for us
00:29:00to pick from.
00:29:01But that being said, I still don't think we know exactly what we want.
00:29:04Mm-hmm.
00:29:05Three, two, one, go!
00:29:08I feel like I like...
00:29:09This is decent decor.
00:29:11We could use a couple tables.
00:29:13What's this?
00:29:15Mina, what about this?
00:29:16If you break it, you bought it.
00:29:17I would have stolen the swishy lamp.
00:29:21I like your guys' lamp, but I like you, so I'm not going to take it.
00:29:24It wasn't something I wanted so bad.
00:29:27I'd like to lean to their good side because they're a little scary.
00:29:29Fifteen seconds.
00:29:30Uh, what is this?
00:29:31The spotlight?
00:29:32I'm going to have this.
00:29:35That is a little basic.
00:29:36Two bucks?
00:29:37Yeah, get it!
00:29:38Three, two, one.
00:29:41And that's it.
00:29:42Whoa!
00:29:43Got the jukebox!
00:29:44The space we're working on this week, and it doesn't scream Vegas, but we're in Vegas, and part of the
00:29:49design is incorporating these things, so let's have fun. Let's do a jukebox.
00:29:54Designers, I do think that was pretty fun.
00:29:57And now it's time to turn these pieces of Vegas flair into something that lasts a lifetime.
00:30:02How you integrate these items into your multi-gen suites will be a part of the judging criteria at the
00:30:09end of the week, so get creative.
00:30:11Good luck!
00:30:12Thank you, Ty.
00:30:13All right.
00:30:13Can't wait to see what you do with the item. Enjoy.
00:30:16Okay.
00:30:17That's blue.
00:30:18The ceremony worked out pretty good for us.
00:30:20I'm ready for the reception, baby.
00:30:22But it's all gonna come down to the honeymoon.
00:30:35It looks big, but I think it's just the framing.
00:30:37Oh, please, dear Lord, let it fit.
00:30:40Are you okay today?
00:30:41No, I stayed up so late here at the house.
00:30:44When I'm tired, I'm loopy.
00:30:45Oh, so I'm gonna get the weird, as opposed to the regular version that I normally have that's totally sane.
00:30:51Correct.
00:30:52Amazing.
00:30:53Slide your side in.
00:30:54Yeah.
00:30:54We have $3,000 from last week's win.
00:30:58The best thing we can do is add another amenity.
00:31:01Adding a fireplace just is another checkmark for a buyer, for a renter, and for added value to our space.
00:31:09Oh, look, and it's on! With a styrofoam in it.
00:31:12We're gonna have a fire!
00:31:14Oh, my gosh. It looks so good, though.
00:31:16I think it's a good idea to have an electric fireplace because it makes it feel like there is another
00:31:22element that's worth something.
00:31:24Well, let's be realistic. This is being built as an independent income suite.
00:31:29It can also be a guest suite, if you want to keep it that way, but it's a fully self
00:31:33-contained apartment, and I want it to feel cozy.
00:31:39So, the festooning has officially crossed over from bold design choice to please send help.
00:31:46So, thankfully, help came to the rescue.
00:31:49Perfect.
00:31:50The TV is mounted. It looks great.
00:31:53Man.
00:31:54I feel like we've really lucked out in these challenges.
00:31:57When we pulled old, which is exactly what we wanted, we got cool lighting, a cool lamp.
00:32:04What if I dropped it and it all broke?
00:32:07Oh, my God! Don't even say that!
00:32:08Wouldn't be a funny joke anymore, would it?
00:32:11No!
00:32:11I also, too, think that lighting adds value more than the little tchotchka stuff you can set on a desk
00:32:18or a nightstand.
00:32:20Lights, camera, action.
00:32:21That's that one.
00:32:22It's cute.
00:32:23It's glowy.
00:32:24It's good. It's very, like, vintage theater vibes.
00:32:28Perfect mood light.
00:32:28I love it.
00:32:29I do, too.
00:32:32I do like that we didn't pull the cabinets all the way around. I mean, it was partially a budget
00:32:37thing.
00:32:38Once this becomes a real kitchen, this isn't just extra space anymore.
00:32:41It becomes a fully functional studio apartment. We've got a full kitchen. We've got the bathroom.
00:32:48Appraisers don't guess. They check boxes, and we're checking all of them.
00:32:52So, we'll have floating shelves all right here. So, where this first laser line is.
00:32:56Floating shelves. Okay.
00:32:57So, the first one will come right around at this level. The second one's about here.
00:33:01And then we have one that goes all the way across the top of the windows.
00:33:04Floating shelves do two things. Knocking out some of the uppers, we save a little bit of money.
00:33:09And then the floating shelves gives us a design opportunity to make some things pretty and make it feel a
00:33:14little bit lighter visually.
00:33:16What was your first apartment like?
00:33:17Um, I mean, I went from the dorms to a seven-bedroom, like, moldy house in Bloomington, and then straight
00:33:24to my first house I bought.
00:33:26So, fun fact, I've literally never in my entire life lived by myself. Ever.
00:33:32You said you never lived by yourself. No.
00:33:35Did you know a funny fact about me? I never washed my own clothes.
00:33:39You've never washed your own clothes? Your grandma. Oh, my goodness.
00:33:43When I was in college, I used to take them home to her so she could wash them, go back
00:33:46and pick them up.
00:33:47The shame. The shame.
00:33:49Yep.
00:33:50Do you have someone that washes them now?
00:33:52Yeah, I got a housekeeper.
00:33:54You fancy.
00:33:55All right, let's go cut our other couple guys, and we'll get these ones installed.
00:33:59All right, here you go.
00:34:02You know, the multi-gen suite was going to be an area where we tried to pull back the budget,
00:34:06so I'm going to do the tile ourselves.
00:34:08We're saving a lot of money there on installation.
00:34:10Plus, we're able to use the same tile we used in our primary suite, so it's a win-win. Savings
00:34:17everywhere.
00:34:18Drew!
00:34:20I really think we need to pivot here.
00:34:25From this?
00:34:31Neutral is probably not going to get us a win. I think we have to push the envelope.
00:34:35Tani comes in with a little bit of a, let's call it a wrinkle. A wrinkle?
00:34:40I'm right here, Drew.
00:34:41A crease?
00:34:42I'm sitting right here.
00:34:42I found this tile, which is gorgeous.
00:34:47And I figured if we can step it up and bring a little bit of a color, our entire suite
00:34:53right now is beige.
00:34:54And I'm all for it. You know me. I love a neutral.
00:34:57But I thought maybe we could bring in something a little different.
00:35:00You know, so I get worried about budget, and I get worried about the time, and then the time is
00:35:04the budget, and then the budget is the time, and they affect each other, and it's like this yin and
00:35:08yang thing.
00:35:08All right, just so we're clear, you want me to pull all this tile?
00:35:13It's not my fault that you got so good at tiling. You're so fast. I was literally gone for 15
00:35:18minutes, and you're almost done.
00:35:21Flattery will get you everywhere.
00:35:23Try it.
00:35:23But let me get this off before it really does set all the way.
00:35:26Are you kicking me out?
00:35:27Give me space.
00:35:29Love you, man.
00:35:30Yeah, stay away from the tile store.
00:35:44You go that way, turns it to me.
00:35:46Yep.
00:35:48A design risk that I would like to take on is bringing back shag carpet. The shag carpet helps with
00:35:54the sexy.
00:35:55We are in Vegas.
00:35:58Oh, whoa.
00:36:01Yeah.
00:36:02Did you pick this out and okay this?
00:36:04No.
00:36:04No.
00:36:05It's weird.
00:36:06It doesn't match anything.
00:36:08We have a problem.
00:36:09This is not looking awesome.
00:36:11It's also synthetic, which is also making it kind of feel like honestly like an apartment, you know, builder grade
00:36:20carpet.
00:36:21I mean, imagine this with that mustard.
00:36:24I hate it with all my heart.
00:36:25Oh, well, just say it.
00:36:27I hate it.
00:36:28It doesn't hurt my feelings.
00:36:28I don't love it.
00:36:30So disappointed that this shag carpet is not gonna work.
00:36:34I was really hoping to bring it back into fashion, but unfortunately we're gonna have to change our plans.
00:36:39Is there a way to just find like a really cool area rug that is shag still?
00:36:47Let's just do the biggest shag rug we possibly can fit in the lounge area.
00:36:55Wow.
00:36:56Okay.
00:36:58Ouch.
00:36:59Mike hurt.
00:37:00Oh, no.
00:37:02It's just like baking a cake.
00:37:04What?
00:37:05It's a big cake.
00:37:06When's your birthday?
00:37:07April 7th.
00:37:09You're an Aries?
00:37:10I'm an Aries.
00:37:11Oh.
00:37:11What are you?
00:37:12I'm a Taurus, baby.
00:37:14Oh, you know what they say about Taurus.
00:37:17Sensual, hot, sexy.
00:37:19Hard to get along with.
00:37:20This is gonna be our range hood.
00:37:22So right now it's just a drywall box.
00:37:24We have no money left to do it.
00:37:26You're a drywall box.
00:37:27I'm sorry.
00:37:28You know what?
00:37:29I thought you were gonna be a little more serious coming into this competition, but...
00:37:33I'm giving you the energy you need.
00:37:35I don't know how we come back from this.
00:37:36You're a football player.
00:37:38Oh, we should go surprise Vernon.
00:37:42Yeah.
00:37:43Get into like 24, 32, hut.
00:37:46What does that even mean?
00:37:47Scott and I have become very close very fast.
00:37:51And I'm sure a lot of people watching us will think that there's something going on,
00:37:55but really the affection I have for him is a mixture of things.
00:37:59There's a little bit of like a daddy complex happening here where I feel safe and protected by you,
00:38:05and I trust you, and you give good advice, and you know, his hugs feel like a dad hug, you
00:38:12know?
00:38:13Anyone in this competition understands the short-term rental market.
00:38:16It's you and I.
00:38:17True.
00:38:17I've done over a thousand rental suites.
00:38:20Oh, I got more on you.
00:38:21Okay.
00:38:21So...
00:38:22No!
00:38:25I'm just kidding, go ahead.
00:38:26How many rental suites have you done?
00:38:28For the last time I counted, I was at 94.
00:38:33What most people don't know is that you've been building this really successful design business
00:38:38and specializing in the short-term vacation rental space.
00:38:43For under $100, we're gonna get a $1,000-looking range hood.
00:38:53This keypad's really nice because the owners, like, you can operate it remotely.
00:38:58Mm-hmm.
00:38:58It really just makes it so you don't need a key ever.
00:39:01Today, Vernon and I are installing a smart lock on our, like, accessory apartment door.
00:39:07I mean, I think this is super smart for the strategy that we have.
00:39:09Yeah, it's not like a huge thing, not crazy expensive, but it just makes the space more functional, right?
00:39:16Right, yep.
00:39:17So, watching Meena work, she was just moving so fluent.
00:39:20She can do everything and anything.
00:39:23And I couldn't help but to think, hey, Meena, someone needs to make a movie about you.
00:39:28I can make a movie out of you.
00:39:30A real estate agent with superpowers.
00:39:32Your superpowers would be easy.
00:39:33What would my superpowers mean?
00:39:35You can hands-on, you can, like, do anything.
00:39:37You can handle any drill.
00:39:37You can flip it in the air.
00:39:38You can spin it.
00:39:39I can see you having so many superpowers.
00:39:41Like, every finger would be a different gadget, like a nail gun, a set of pliers.
00:39:47It's like Edward Scissorhands, but Meena tool fingers.
00:39:51Yeah, she's awesome.
00:39:52Which doesn't quite have the same ring, but I'll workshop that and get back to you.
00:39:57Super ginger.
00:40:00All right.
00:40:02She's a beaut.
00:40:03Oh, my God.
00:40:05I love their tile.
00:40:06Dang, I wanted to hate it.
00:40:08What is happening?
00:40:09It's really ugly.
00:40:20With only one day left, we had to bring in someone to help with the new tile so we could
00:40:24focus on other projects.
00:40:26So we decided to build this kitchen island because, number one, it's a little bit more cost-effective.
00:40:31Number two, we want people to come and stay in this room to feel the love and the investment of
00:40:37time that went into it.
00:40:38This is a story.
00:40:40This is something that was built out of love and attention to detail.
00:40:45You don't get that with the prefab piece.
00:40:47You know a lot more than you think you know.
00:40:50And the fact that he can build, I mean, who knew that Drew Lachey builds?
00:40:54I don't know how you know how to do this, but I'm just glad you do.
00:40:57Well, between having a smaller kitchen where they can make some breakfast, have their coffee, wine, of course, a sitting
00:41:04area, a place to sleep, washer, dryer, bathroom, literally a home away from home for someone.
00:41:10You put this in New York City, you're paying three grand a month.
00:41:14Minimum.
00:41:15Three grand a month.
00:41:16Minimum.
00:41:16Minimum.
00:41:17Minimum.
00:41:19Minimum.
00:41:19You know what's really going to finish this countertop off, Brooke?
00:41:22I know.
00:41:23The design surprise that I so smartly picked out.
00:41:27A beautiful brass faucet.
00:41:30Oh, Brooke, all you got to do is focus.
00:41:32I can see you down there.
00:41:34I see you.
00:41:36Hello.
00:41:37Okay, let it go.
00:41:38Okay, should be good.
00:41:40Nope.
00:41:42I mean, we were pretty smart with picking something that might actually add value because everybody else just picked staging
00:41:48and decor.
00:41:49I mean, the truth is, this kitchen is tiny, but it's got some big stuff in it.
00:41:53Do you want to know what our profit maximizer is this week?
00:41:55What?
00:41:56The dishwasher.
00:41:57Yeah.
00:41:58Bam.
00:41:59Because the average tenant will pay...
00:42:01The average tenant will pay an extra $75 a month to have a dishwasher, plus it's an extra appliance in
00:42:06our house, so it adds to the appraisal value.
00:42:08Got it.
00:42:18Oh, yes.
00:42:20Get her fucked up.
00:42:21Yes.
00:42:23I'm waiting for this.
00:42:24There we go, man.
00:42:25I'm waiting.
00:42:26I'm waiting.
00:42:26I'm waiting.
00:42:27There we go.
00:42:29Hey, what you doing, buddy?
00:42:30About time.
00:42:31About time.
00:42:32These are ours for sure.
00:42:33Yeah, that's us.
00:42:34That's us.
00:42:34I better leave our mid-century alone.
00:42:36I need those, Vernon.
00:42:38Oh, I thought you were done with it.
00:42:39No, sir.
00:42:40We don't want a participation trophy.
00:42:42It's been three weeks, and we still don't have a win.
00:42:46The multi-gen, to me, is the wild card in this entire competition, but I'm confident in what we've done.
00:42:56Our festooned movie room is, like, the biggest oddball idea.
00:43:02It's going to be a one-of-a-kind.
00:43:03People are either going to love it or they're going to hate it.
00:43:06Everything about it is comfortable, elegant, but just a little bit, like, sexier, like, a little more masculine.
00:43:13Love it.
00:43:14Oh, you got it?
00:43:14Yeah.
00:43:15What I think is interesting with our multi-gen is that our added value is that there is some flexibility
00:43:20to the space.
00:43:21Spatially, does it fit?
00:43:22Yes.
00:43:23Spatially, it fits great.
00:43:24Okay, Argus Hunk.
00:43:26To the left.
00:43:26We got, like, one minute.
00:43:31Multi-gen for the win.
00:43:37Teams, this week you've heard wedding bells, had an Elvis sighting, and committed yourself to the multi-generational sweets.
00:43:47Yeah, we did.
00:43:48Yes, that's for sure.
00:43:49It's now time to learn who your judges are for this week.
00:43:53They're the top of their game and known for their big personalities.
00:43:57With skills varying from high-end design to real estate expertise.
00:44:02This week you'll be scrutinized in a way you've yet to experience here on the block.
00:44:07So I really hope you're ready.
00:44:08Any guesses who the judge could be?
00:44:11Someone who's been on the block for sure.
00:44:13Please welcome this week's judges for the multi-gen sweets.
00:44:21It's you guys.
00:44:23What?
00:44:24Yeah.
00:44:25What?
00:44:27Being judged by your peers is the ultimate vulnerable moment.
00:44:30It's something that, you know, you fear the most in this competition.
00:44:34That's right.
00:44:35It's time to check out each other's spaces.
00:44:39Yay!
00:44:40Wow.
00:44:41Where you will judge your competitors on design, creativity, and added value.
00:44:46Along with how well each team incorporated the design surprise this week.
00:44:51I've got your score cards.
00:44:53You'll assign a numerical score to each team's space.
00:44:56I'll total them up, and the highest score wins.
00:44:59Woo!
00:44:59Scott and Brooke, I've got your card.
00:45:01You stay with me.
00:45:02We're judging your space first.
00:45:04Teams!
00:45:05Oh!
00:45:05Everybody looks so beautiful and handsome today.
00:45:10Vernon, you're my guy.
00:45:11Don't let me down, brother.
00:45:12Oh, my God.
00:45:12The modern cashienda.
00:45:23What?
00:45:25Look at this.
00:45:36Oh, my goodness.
00:45:38Wow.
00:45:39You know what's interesting?
00:45:40I'm getting such modern Hacienda vibes in here.
00:45:44Hey!
00:45:47I'm shocked how they were able to lay it out and still have space.
00:45:53That's how they're going to add value in here, is that this is like an apartment.
00:45:56Yeah.
00:45:57I mean, very detached from the house.
00:45:59Very guest suite.
00:46:00Mm-hmm.
00:46:00Right?
00:46:00I'm very impressed.
00:46:02Damn.
00:46:03Full kitchen.
00:46:04Not a kitchenette.
00:46:05That's like full fridge, full range.
00:46:07Not much in the way of any kind of storage.
00:46:11That is the nitpick.
00:46:12This is their faucet from the design surprise.
00:46:15Good use of it.
00:46:16Good use of it.
00:46:17The only thing that they don't have is a microwave.
00:46:19They've done it.
00:46:20Like, ours is over our stove.
00:46:24Get out of here.
00:46:26What a hole.
00:46:26We have a fireplace.
00:46:28What a great use of space.
00:46:29I love the way they use this bench.
00:46:32It gives a little flow to the space.
00:46:35Yeah.
00:46:35So you've got dining, you've got living room, kitchen.
00:46:38Feels very comfy.
00:46:40It does not give me hacienda, being from San Antonio.
00:46:43I picture something very specific when I think of hacienda.
00:46:46Like adobe.
00:46:47But I do think it's very palatable.
00:47:02It's tiny and it's tight, but it does get it done.
00:47:05And it's like a train car where you do have privacy for the bedroom.
00:47:10Look at that tile.
00:47:12This is beautiful.
00:47:23Wow.
00:47:24Love, love, love the tile.
00:47:25The tile is my favorite thing so far.
00:47:27Same.
00:47:28And I love that it's up the walls all over.
00:47:31Killer.
00:47:32Drenches this room.
00:47:32Is theirs bigger than ours?
00:47:34How did?
00:47:36Yeah.
00:47:37It feels bigger.
00:47:38Well, we'll give Brooke all the credit.
00:47:40How about that?
00:47:41Damn it.
00:47:41I know.
00:47:42The bathroom is my favorite.
00:47:44Same.
00:47:44Yeah.
00:47:45Dang, I wanted to hate it.
00:47:47I think they did a really good job.
00:47:49Let's go check out the next one.
00:47:56What do we have?
00:47:58Oh my gosh.
00:48:16Look at that fluted paneling back there.
00:48:18Side lit.
00:48:19Oh my God.
00:48:20Oh, turn around.
00:48:23Look at that.
00:48:25Check out that light fixture.
00:48:28Oh my gosh.
00:48:29I've never seen that before.
00:48:30I hate that light fixture.
00:48:31You hate it?
00:48:32That's ugly.
00:48:33That's really ugly.
00:48:34They changed this window.
00:48:35That's beautiful.
00:48:36Which I love.
00:48:37I love the square window.
00:48:38Because we all started with two windows there, right?
00:48:40Mm-hmm.
00:48:41Beautiful.
00:48:41I also like the closet doors painted a different color than the walls.
00:48:45It makes them an accent piece.
00:48:47Did you check?
00:48:48Look at the door.
00:48:49Look at the handles.
00:48:49They're pretty.
00:48:50Ooh, the details.
00:48:51Yeah.
00:48:52It's very peaceful in here.
00:48:53What do you think about the floating bed in the middle of the room versus how Scott and Brooke have
00:48:57the bedroom in the hallway?
00:48:58I prefer this.
00:49:00This feels more like an en suite.
00:49:02It feels spacious.
00:49:03Now, thinking back to Brooke and Scott's, it felt like that little hallway.
00:49:07That's more of an apartment.
00:49:08With the railroad car.
00:49:09This is more like hotel room.
00:49:11Oh, here's the bench.
00:49:14That's creative, guys.
00:49:15Very cute.
00:49:16Very creative.
00:49:16Nice to have a spot off the bathroom where you could sit and do your shoes or whatever.
00:49:21Interesting.
00:49:32They added a barn door to the bathroom.
00:49:35Kept the same layout.
00:49:36Awesome.
00:49:37I love their tile.
00:49:38I love the sconces and the floating vanity.
00:49:41I think it's nice.
00:49:43Really great lights.
00:49:45It's really pretty.
00:49:46It is.
00:49:46I like it in here.
00:49:48I do, too.
00:49:49Their kitchen feels bigger.
00:49:51I don't love the island.
00:49:52Oh, my God.
00:49:53Shut up.
00:49:53It's so cute.
00:49:54It's cute, but it just feels like a painted piece.
00:49:57I don't love it.
00:49:58Oh, I love it.
00:49:59There's no refrigerator.
00:50:00No microwave.
00:50:01Mm-hmm.
00:50:02Which are probably the biggest kitchen cons I would give.
00:50:06I'd stay here.
00:50:07I'd stay here, too.
00:50:08Five nights.
00:50:09Go see the next place we'd stay.
00:50:11Five nights.
00:50:12Wine.
00:50:13All the wine.
00:50:14Cheese.
00:50:20Really cool door.
00:50:22Wow, Mina and Vernon.
00:50:37Oh, guys.
00:50:39So it's another apartment.
00:50:41Wow.
00:50:42We really went another direction.
00:50:46My parents would love to stay in here.
00:50:49But I feel like with this kitchen, I mean, this would be a nice rental.
00:50:52Yeah.
00:50:53The way they did their kitchen is so banging.
00:50:56It is smart.
00:50:58Wow.
00:50:59I like the multi-tones that they did.
00:51:01It gives it dimension.
00:51:03And the cabinets right to the ceiling.
00:51:05Are you kidding me?
00:51:06Hmm.
00:51:06Going through this space, I feel like we didn't do enough.
00:51:09Being in here now, I like this kitchen configuration better than the other two.
00:51:13Oh, yeah.
00:51:13I mean, this is gorgeous.
00:51:14They have all the storage that the other ones didn't have.
00:51:17Yeah.
00:51:18Drew, I'm obsessed with this detail because it's a subtle little thing that changes the
00:51:22whole space.
00:51:29If this was a rental suite, which it could be, you're not going to get as much rent for
00:51:34this as you will with ours.
00:51:35I will say, if I were renting somewhere, I would not want to have my friends over and
00:51:40have my messy bed in my closet and all my crap everywhere.
00:51:43Bam.
00:51:44So we could still be winning there.
00:51:46Could they have benefited from having a bigger bed?
00:51:49A little bit bigger bed.
00:51:50Maybe.
00:51:50That's a cuddle bed.
00:51:52The way that this is staged, it just feels more like office furniture with the day bed
00:51:56and the sofa.
00:51:57Like it doesn't feel like somewhere I would really want to stay because there's not like
00:52:00a big comfy bed.
00:52:02Seating for four, but sleeping for one.
00:52:05Bathroom?
00:52:05Shall we?
00:52:06Bathroom.
00:52:18It's gorgeous.
00:52:19I like the brass barn door.
00:52:21The rail up top.
00:52:22Oh, that's so pretty.
00:52:24And look, we've got a little pedestal.
00:52:26Yes.
00:52:26That's what they got from the challenge.
00:52:28Yeah.
00:52:28So a little spot to keep your soap, but you have that niche too.
00:52:31I do love that they have the brass plumbing and it's exposed.
00:52:36It's very cool.
00:52:38I still like that we switched the layout of our bathroom because a center entrance is really
00:52:42awkward.
00:52:43I mean, this is a very specific setup where you have to want an attached apartment to your
00:52:48house with no access to the home.
00:52:50Overall, I think it's really, really sleek in here.
00:52:54I did not expect this as their design flavor though.
00:52:59It's a little unexpected.
00:53:01The only negative is that we didn't come up with this.
00:53:03Damn it.
00:53:04One more to go.
00:53:13Oh, yes.
00:53:14Oh my God.
00:53:30It was like a movie room.
00:53:32But so vintage.
00:53:34I feel like I'm in a movie room in the 20s.
00:53:36Wow.
00:53:37I don't know what to say.
00:53:39So you do have a door here.
00:53:43Okay.
00:53:44So you can access it directly from the main house.
00:53:47Okay.
00:53:47So you could make it a short-term rental if you didn't want it to be a theater.
00:53:52I see.
00:53:53Options.
00:53:54I always love options.
00:53:56No way.
00:53:59What?
00:54:04What?
00:54:05What is happening?
00:54:07It's something.
00:54:10Stop.
00:54:11Stop.
00:54:12Stop laughing.
00:54:13I was not ready for this.
00:54:17It feels like you're in the big top.
00:54:19I was not ready for this at all.
00:54:23You're speechless.
00:54:25I feel like it's one of those moments where if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it.
00:54:30Stop it.
00:54:31It's really ugly.
00:54:34There, I said it.
00:54:34It's a movie theater.
00:54:36I know we're on a budget, but my God.
00:54:40What?
00:54:40To me, that room symbolized survival.
00:54:44It was like a survivor tent.
00:54:46It was.
00:54:47It was like you could matchstick a fire in there.
00:54:49Oh, fun.
00:54:51This heats up through the counter.
00:54:52That's amazing.
00:54:54That's the chandelier that they got.
00:54:56Yeah.
00:54:56It's perfect.
00:54:58So they got their vintage chandelier.
00:54:59They got their cousin it lamp.
00:55:01Which looks perfect.
00:55:11Look at the antique mirror.
00:55:12I mean, really, they didn't stop.
00:55:14Look at this detail.
00:55:15I don't like the chrome.
00:55:16With all the stuff that they've done, I can't believe they picked chrome.
00:55:21I feel like this would ding their entire house appraisal.
00:55:24Stop.
00:55:24I don't think you're appreciating what's been done here.
00:55:27This door is over here for everyone else.
00:55:30They can use this whole wall now.
00:55:32I kind of wish we had thought of using the whole wall like that.
00:55:35I'm going to have nightmares.
00:55:37You're in the nightmare.
00:55:40Okay.
00:55:41I can't.
00:55:42I literally can't.
00:55:43You could adjust this slightly.
00:55:45Take out some of the couch, drop in a bed, and still have it function as a short-term rental.
00:55:51The question is, does this add value?
00:55:54In my opinion, the answer is yes.
00:55:56I mean, you know, I'm down for a movie room anywhere.
00:55:59The big value adds, though, are they moved the door and they added a door to the main house.
00:56:03That could be a game changer for the appraisal for them.
00:56:06So I think they made some smart layout choices.
00:56:09You did a really good job.
00:56:10Yeah, you did a great job.
00:56:11This is cool.
00:56:12This is live.
00:56:12Yeah, this is live.
00:56:13All right.
00:56:14We got a lot to think about.
00:56:24So how was that?
00:56:26Self-judging.
00:56:27It was great.
00:56:28It was great.
00:56:28That was hard.
00:56:29That was nerve-wracking for sure.
00:56:31I thought I was a nice person.
00:56:33And now I don't feel like I am.
00:56:35She's a critic.
00:56:37Dang.
00:56:38It's got to be nerve-wracking to be judged by your peers.
00:56:41But on the other hand, I mean, how cool is it to finally get a peek at your competition?
00:56:44It was awesome.
00:56:45It's a little intimidating.
00:56:46Mm-hmm.
00:56:47I have here in my hands the envelope with the winner of the Multi-Gen Suite.
00:56:53Now, before we get to your decision, let's hear from you guys about each team.
00:56:58So, Scott and Brooke, why don't you come on up?
00:56:59And you're actually going to hear from the other teams what they thought of your design.
00:57:03Oh, okay.
00:57:03Oh, bring it on.
00:57:05So, Kim and Chelsea, let's start with you guys.
00:57:07What did you think of Scott and Brooke's Multi-Gen Suite?
00:57:10I think as creative as we thought the floor plan was, it was very locked into that.
00:57:15So, if you didn't want it as an apartment, it was not a flex space.
00:57:18It felt very much like it was kitchen, living, bedroom, and bathroom, but we thought it was really well done.
00:57:25If you are trying to use it as, it seems like, maybe like a rental income possibly as well,
00:57:30there might want to be a little bit more kitchen storage where things get put away if somebody's going to
00:57:35be in there more than a night or two.
00:57:37I think making the bedroom is a super smart value add.
00:57:41The bathroom was beautiful.
00:57:43Only critique is that there's not really a place for a microwave.
00:57:47But overall, you guys did an amazing job, man. Amazing.
00:57:50Scott and Brooke, well done. You may take your spot back in the lineup.
00:57:53Thank you, Seth.
00:57:54Thank you very much.
00:57:55Good job, guys.
00:57:56Appreciate everyone's feedback.
00:57:58Tanya and Drew, why don't you step in? We'll do some judging of you guys.
00:58:03When I walked into Tanya and Drew's space, I immediately melted onto the countertop.
00:58:09I fell in love with it. I felt like I was in a high-end store.
00:58:12I loved the rug. I loved the floating bed in the middle of the room.
00:58:15I loved where they put the sofa. I loved how they did the kitchen.
00:58:18And honestly, I didn't even notice the ugly stuff that they had to work with from the competition.
00:58:23I think that the placement of the bed in the middle of the room was a huge risk.
00:58:28I loved it.
00:58:32Continue.
00:58:34And polarizing for certain people.
00:58:36I thought the wallpaper was probably the best feature in the entire space.
00:58:41Best wallpaper ever.
00:58:42It gave it a very unique hotel-like vibe.
00:58:45As soon as I walked in, guys, I thought I was in the best hotel in Vegas.
00:58:49I mean, it just felt amazing.
00:58:51Like, if I was staying somewhere, I would want to stay there.
00:58:53It represents everything.
00:58:54What I look for when I want to stay somewhere.
00:58:56The bathroom was beautiful.
00:58:58I really like the backsplash, too.
00:59:00A critique coming from a potential income standpoint would be not having more of a full kitchen.
00:59:07I think it would work great for a short-term rental.
00:59:09But anyone that was going to stay there more than a night or two, just having the cooktop and the
00:59:13wine fridge could be limiting.
00:59:15Her and I both, right when we walked in, we had that same feeling of, this is a place where
00:59:20I would want to stay.
00:59:20It did make me want to bring my bag over and just move in.
00:59:24So, very well done.
00:59:26It was beautiful.
00:59:27Next up, it's Mina and Vernon.
00:59:29Come on down.
00:59:31I was shocked at how big of a kitchen you could get into that space.
00:59:35So, well done there.
00:59:37You had dining for four, but a bed for one.
00:59:40There wasn't enough space for everything else that you would need for that big of an apartment.
00:59:45But, I mean, I thought it was gorgeous.
00:59:48The way you laid it out was just spot on.
00:59:53Everything from the cabinet of color in the kitchen was fabulous.
00:59:56The fact that it was a keyless entry.
00:59:58So, naturally, you're going like, this is a rental.
01:00:00The faucet in the shower, the open.
01:00:03So cool.
01:00:03I was like, oh, okay.
01:00:05I was like, that's how we're going to play.
01:00:06Okay.
01:00:07I thought your hardware in the shower was gorgeous.
01:00:09There was some steampunk, gold, cool element to it.
01:00:13I loved it.
01:00:14You have everything in there for the value add.
01:00:18However, when you see it all together, it maybe felt like it was trying too hard to put everything in
01:00:24there.
01:00:25And I think that you're playing the long game 100%.
01:00:28Yeah.
01:00:28Like, there's value add, value add, value add more than any other space that I saw.
01:00:32Any hating you're getting is intimidation from him.
01:00:34All right.
01:00:35Let's bring in Kim and Chelsea.
01:00:38So, Tonya Drew, what did you guys think of Kim and Chelsea's multi-gen space?
01:00:42I want to tell you, I applaud you for your creativity and your risk taking.
01:00:47Because I walked in there and my jaw dropped.
01:00:51And I didn't know if it was just because I was so like, what is happening in here?
01:00:56Where am I?
01:00:57But the decor, the matchbooks, the corduroy couch, the shag carpet, I felt like Burt Reynolds need to be laying
01:01:05naked on that with like a cigarette in his mouth, just like hairy chest out.
01:01:10The tiniest detail, but the thing I was the most, most obsessed with was the antique mirror on top of
01:01:16the antique mirror.
01:01:18And I feel like that's what I'm most impressed about with your guys' design style.
01:01:22It's just so layered and so thought out.
01:01:26Girls, I am the girl that will tell you if you have something in your teeth.
01:01:29I will tell you if your husband's cheating on you.
01:01:31And I will tell you if you look fat in a dress.
01:01:33It's okay.
01:01:34Rip us apart.
01:01:36It's okay.
01:01:36I was honestly disappointed when I walked in.
01:01:39I thought, oh my gosh, this is going to be the jewel box of the century.
01:01:43And I walked in and I was like, fabric people gave you freaking drop cloth for your ceilings.
01:01:48They look like his jeans.
01:01:50I'm like, what is going on?
01:01:51What's wrong with Ty's pants?
01:01:52What did Ty do to you?
01:01:54You dragged me to the fire.
01:01:56Nothing in my wildest dreams could have prepared me to walk through that door.
01:02:01Scott, is there anything you guys would have done differently?
01:02:03Oh, stop it!
01:02:05There's nothing in there that I could have imagined of myself.
01:02:09You weathered that storm.
01:02:10Why don't you take your places back in the line?
01:02:12We're happy to leave that scenario.
01:02:14Great job, guys.
01:02:16So you guys know how it works.
01:02:17The winner will see $3,000 to be used on next week's design.
01:02:22Thanks to the Wells Fargo Active Cash credit card.
01:02:25Or add $1,000 to your final appraisal on the big finale.
01:02:30Okay, here we go.
01:02:32The winner of the Rock the Block Multi-Gen Suite is...
01:02:43Tanya!
01:02:44Yeah!
01:02:46Woo!
01:02:47Woo!
01:02:49Woo!
01:02:51I got another man!
01:02:53Yeah!
01:02:54It feels great to get that first W.
01:02:55Hopefully there's many more to come.
01:02:57Just to get over that hump and feel what it feels like to be on that right track.
01:03:02Probably a better feeling than the others
01:03:04because we're being judged by our peers, so that's a huge compliment.
01:03:09All right, now you guys have got a big choice to make.
01:03:11Now that you've won, you've got to decide.
01:03:13Are you going to take the $3,000 toward next week's design?
01:03:18Or are you going to do the $1,000 towards your final appraisal in the big finale?
01:03:24Ty, we're going to take the $1,000.
01:03:26What? Yes.
01:03:28No way.
01:03:29We're going to take the $1,000 towards the final appraisal.
01:03:31Wow.
01:03:32We did not win.
01:03:34We did not win the multi-jun suite.
01:03:36It's a bummer.
01:03:37We are now the only team that does not have a win this season.
01:03:42So we really need to lock it in and just figure out a way to get on the board.
01:03:47You guys rest up and get ready for the next section of the house because we're not done quite yet.
01:03:54That's good.
01:03:55All right, rest up.
01:03:57The scariest thing that is happening right now is that from the beginning, Tanya and Drew have been a threat.
01:04:02And now for the first time, we're seeing the fruits of their labor.
01:04:07And things just got worse.
01:04:10Next time on Rock the Block.
01:04:12This week, the office, laundry room, and RV garage.
01:04:17The big garage terrifies me.
01:04:19If we get through this week, I'll be impressed.
01:04:21What is that?
01:04:22Very good question.
01:04:24We've been saving for a big move and now is the time.
01:04:27Like, this is that move.
01:04:28Are you mad because it's not what you said?
01:04:30Or are you mad because you don't like it?
01:04:32Those are both great reasons to be mad.
01:04:34Luanne de Lisep.
01:04:36Welcome to the block.
01:04:38We need a place for storage.
01:04:40There's nowhere to put anything.
