00:01On today's episode...
00:03Oh gosh, she's transferring money, guys.
00:06Crypto scammers try to clear out a woman's current account.
00:09This is urgent.
00:11Come on, come on, come on, take it, take it, take it.
00:14Leaving our ground team trying to pick up the pieces.
00:18Oh my God, but, sir, calm down, principal, because we're in a...
00:21I am calm.
00:22Okay, calm down.
00:24I'm completely calm.
00:25I'm just telling you that that is absolute nonsense.
00:27What you're saying is absolute nonsense.
00:38Ah, you've got several accounts.
00:41Ah, I see.
00:43Yeah, but just stay to the primary one, okay?
00:45The one that you have as a primary account.
00:49Today, in our Glasgow HQ, we've been joined by ethical hacker Jim Browning.
00:55Okay, now scroll down a little bit slowly.
00:58Thanks to Jim and fellow ethical hacker Agent G9, we've been able to get access to a scam group operating
01:06out of Tirana, Albania.
01:11They're pretending to be working for a cryptocurrency trading website.
01:15We're looking right now at a blockchain impersonation scam.
01:19So these guys, they pretend that they work for blockchain.com.
01:23Blockchain.com is a legitimate cryptocurrency trading platform.
01:28But these scammers have no links to the company.
01:31They're simply pretending to work for them to trick people out of money.
01:36Can you see accounts on the top of the screen, madam?
01:41And what do you see? Do you see your account?
01:45Okay, click on the X on the top left side then.
01:48The scammers claim that they can recover lost cryptocurrency wallets for people, which contain a life-changing sum of money.
01:56They call people and they say to them that there has been a wallet found with their name attached to
02:01it.
02:01And that it's got a ton of money in it. So everybody the same thing.
02:054.7 Bitcoin, roughly 300, 400,000 pounds, depending on the day.
02:09Obviously, that's a huge amount of money to anybody. People get very excited indeed.
02:14From the scammer's screen, we have established the woman's name is Jeanette.
02:18She's being told that in order to reactivate and secure access to the crypto wallet that's in her name, she
02:26will have to transfer a thousand pounds to it.
02:29The second step that we have to proceed to go through is that you have to make a positive transaction.
02:34Okay?
02:35The scammer says that any money Jeanette transfers to the wallet will be sent straight back to her.
02:41So this positive transaction will take place between your accounts, from Jeanette to Jeanette. Do you understand me?
02:49But it's all a lie. That cash will, in fact, be going straight to the scammers.
02:55So, it's an advanced fee fraud. Pay a small amount upfront, get beautiful big thing in future.
03:01And they're pretty good at it. Hopefully, we'll be able to get enough detail of this woman to stop her
03:07from going through with it.
03:07Because right now, she is showing this scammer the contents of her account.
03:11The scammer, who is calling himself Alex, has convinced Jeanette to share her mobile phone screen.
03:18Meaning, he can see exactly what is in her bank account.
03:22The way they get people to show their screens is very clever.
03:26They don't require remote access. They don't say, can you download a third-party app like so many scammers do.
03:30They just say, join this Google, meet with me, I'll walk you through it all, and you can share your
03:34screen with me.
03:35We've all done it. I'm sure if you're in a meeting, sometimes someone needs to share a screen to show
03:39what's going on.
03:39It's not unusual anymore. It's perfectly normal for the people they're talking to.
03:42The photograph scammer Alex is using is not of him.
03:47It's been stolen from elsewhere or created using artificial intelligence to make him appear more legitimate.
03:56We don't currently have any other information which could help us track Jeanette down.
04:01But the team is on the case.
04:05So we have this lady on Facebook and also on Instagram as well.
04:08Yeah.
04:09OK.
04:10That's her there.
04:11So there's a picture of her at the Emmerdale set.
04:14She may live in Yorkshire.
04:15OK.
04:18Whilst we can hear the scammer loud and clear, Jeanette's side of the call is very distorted.
04:25Jeanette, not Jeanette.
04:27I'm not sure if you're understanding me.
04:29But from what we can pick out, it sounds like Jeanette is worried about losing her money.
04:35As you can see, I've only got £1200 in my bank account at the moment.
04:40Is it?
04:40I can't.
04:41I need to start that.
04:44That is going to pay my bill.
04:48And you don't have to do that.
04:50As a company, we don't call our customers over the phone and ask them to pay.
04:53Because there's no payment required in order for you to reactivate an account.
04:57OK?
04:59While scammer Alex tries talking Jeanette around, the team is making progress in the search for her.
05:07I think I found her.
05:08She's in Doncaster.
05:09OK.
05:10Doncaster?
05:12Though the address Interceptor Alice has found isn't very recent, Nick has uncovered some more up-to-date information.
05:21OK, guys, it's definitely Doncaster.
05:23Is it?
05:24Yeah.
05:24So this is her on Facebook.
05:26She's put a picture of her car.
05:28Someone underneath his comments said, you're not in Hull, are you?
05:30She replies, no, I'm in Doncaster.
05:32Doncaster, well done.
05:33So she's confirmed it from her own mouth.
05:34From her own mouth.
05:35And what's the number that you have there, madam?
05:37Can you rate it?
05:38Scammer Alex is desperately trying to convince Jeanette that any cash she transfers to him won't be at risk.
05:46Oh, my dear, one more time.
05:47You're not going to pay anything, all right?
05:50Yeah, but do you understand that you are going to send it back to your regular account at the end
05:54of procedure, madam?
05:55Because nobody is going to hold your money.
05:58Of course I can guarantee you, madam, because I have this phone call recorded.
06:03I cannot do something that is against the rules because every phone call recorded by the FCA, the Financial Conduct
06:08Authority of UK.
06:10The scammer is claiming that his work is monitored by the UK's financial regulator, the FCA.
06:16But it is a straight up lie designed to make Jeanette believe that her money is protected.
06:24We've got a decent amount of info on this person pretty quickly.
06:27And it was enough that because our team are brilliant, they managed to work out what we're pretty confident at
06:32a reasonably high level is where she lives.
06:34So we're getting our ground team from the north of England on the way there now.
06:38They're going to be at least an hour, I would guess, to get there.
06:41But they might be our best shot of getting in touch with her at the moment.
06:47Nick updates ground interceptors Chris and Nathan.
06:52So we've got something for you.
06:54It's a blockchain impersonation scam of a woman in the Doncaster area.
07:00OK.
07:00She thinks that she's going to be in line for a massive windfall of about £300,000 in cryptocurrency that
07:07she believes is stored online in her name.
07:09We don't have a number for her so we can't even get in touch.
07:11The scammer can see her screen so even if we did have a number, phoning her would be a really
07:17noisy way to get in contact.
07:19Just over an hour away.
07:21Nick tunes back into the scammer who seems to have gone very quiet.
07:26I think she might be talking to somebody else in the same room as her because he's not talking to
07:31her right now.
07:32And the reason why becomes clear.
07:42Oh, shoot, I saw on her Facebook profile that she's a barber.
07:47Yes, that's right.
07:48So let's try and find out where she's a barber.
07:49Because I bet you she's there and not at home.
07:51She just said something about her customer, didn't she?
07:54I wonder if she said to him, I've just got to finish this haircut and then we can pick this
07:57up.
07:57Yeah, that could definitely be it.
07:59Shall we try and see if we can find maybe where she works?
08:06Hello?
08:07Yes.
08:07You're back?
08:08You finished?
08:09Yes.
08:10Okay, you had the client.
08:13All right, you finished with your client hopefully.
08:16I did, yeah.
08:17All right.
08:17Oh, she's back.
08:18She's back.
08:21That's crazy, we've never seen that before.
08:23Never seen a scammer just go, I'll just patiently wait while you finish doing what you're doing and then we
08:27can continue to scam.
08:28But it's interesting because I think normally in that situation a scammer would go, no, you can't possibly do that
08:33now.
08:33This is urgent.
08:34You must attend to this right this second.
08:36Actually quite slick of him to go, sure, pay your time.
08:39This $1,200 that you're telling me is in Revolut Bank or into your regular bank account by the way?
08:44All right.
08:45Now, bear for the second place because normally this amount of money has to be into your Revolut account.
08:51All right?
08:52The scammer is talking Jeanette through transferring cash from her current account into her Revolut account.
09:00Now, go in Revolut one more time Jeanette.
09:03Are you in the Revolut Bank?
09:04Yes.
09:05The scammer says that if her money is in her Revolut account, it will make it easier to reactivate her
09:11lost crypto wallet as Revolut is a crypto-friendly bank.
09:16And after that you have to select the account and you have to approve it.
09:20Yes.
09:22All right.
09:23So the £1,000 it has been added into your Revolut account directly.
09:27Oh, here we go.
09:28She's just sent money.
09:29Oh, no.
09:31She's just added.
09:32She just transferred £1,000.
09:34Into her Revolut account.
09:35Yeah.
09:36Oh, no.
09:38Now select the option which is in crypto.
09:39We need to act and fast.
09:43What are our options for disrupting this group?
09:45They're virtually none.
09:48Whatever we could do to slow him down won't slow him down very much at all.
09:51And it's very obvious.
09:52Bear in mind, this is the guy who was watching episodes of our show.
09:55Oh, yes.
09:55Yes.
09:55This is specifically him.
09:57Sorry?
09:57It would have to be of all people to get this far.
10:00Yeah.
10:00You know, he's obviously one of the more skilled ones.
10:02Yeah, totally.
10:03But now it means that if we make any kind of obvious move, he's going to know exactly what's going
10:08on.
10:09And refresh your mail, because you are going to receive a new email to make the connection with your crypto
10:14wallet.
10:14Scammer Alex is now in the closing stages of his scam.
10:21He sent Jeanette an email, which includes a link to a crypto wallet where she needs to send the reactivation
10:28payment of nearly £1,000, which Scammer Alex insists she'll get back.
10:34This one, it has your own details inside.
10:37If it was not from your side, the system of blockchain will decline all the transactions.
10:43All right?
10:44But if she sends the cash, she'll never see it again.
10:49What's the ETA of the ground team?
10:51So they're slightly further away than they initially thought.
10:53They're now 46 minutes away.
10:54OK.
10:56But it may be too late.
10:58Jeanette is on the verge of transferring cash to the crypto wallet.
11:02Oh, gosh.
11:02She's transferring money, guys.
11:04The GIs are too far out to stop this, guys.
11:06We need to find another way to warn Jeanette.
11:09And Interceptor Harleen has a lead.
11:11I found a Jeanette's hair salon in Doncaster.
11:15Yeah, it's like a four-minute drive from the home address.
11:19Is there a number?
11:20Yes, there is.
11:23Meanwhile, the scammer is continuing to talk Jeanette through the transfer of her money.
11:29And you see you're receiving 0.013.
11:33Underneath that, clients to receive.
11:36The number you have, of course.
11:39So that's crossed that off the list.
11:41Do we reckon it's shut down or is the number just wrong?
11:43I think it's shut down.
11:45It's a dead end.
11:46But Nick has found another possible business on Jeanette's social media profile.
11:56Oh, hi. My name's Nick Stapleton.
11:58I work for a programme called Scam Interceptors at the BBC.
12:02I'm trying to get in touch with a lady called Jeanette
12:03who is currently in the process of being scammed.
12:07Do you have a Jeanette who works there, by any chance?
12:11You don't? OK, don't worry.
12:13Thank you very much. Bye-bye.
12:14We are running out of time.
12:16But then, we see Jeanette entering more of her personal details
12:20on the scammer's screen.
12:23There's a number! There's a number! There's a mobile number!
12:25OK, 07...
12:31I've seen a mobile number and we've now got a full address for this woman,
12:34so Nick's going to try and contact her.
12:36She's literally about to transfer.
12:37We know it's the right number. We can see the call going through.
12:40Jeanette's not picking up.
12:42And it sounds like Scammer Alex is taking advantage of the call,
12:47claiming that it could be from someone who had scammed Jeanette in the past.
12:51Have these guys that took the £3,000 bothered you again, Jeanette?
12:57They have. I see. That's terrible.
13:01Nick keeps calling Jeanette.
13:06Oh, this is absolutely killing me.
13:09We're so close.
13:14Turning off private number so it appears on a screen that's calling from a UK mobile.
13:18Come on, Jeanette. Take the call.
13:20It's only the people, my dear, that you've been in touch with, OK?
13:24Because maybe they know that you're trying to take the money out.
13:26Now they want to stop you, all right?
13:29So I wouldn't suggest you answering right now.
13:32Oh, my God.
13:34Scammer what I want.
13:36And now another person is trying to get through to Jeanette.
13:41Work.
13:46I think it's the woman. It's the woman that you just found.
13:49No way.
13:50The incoming call is from the same barbershop that we called earlier.
13:55The one who said they hadn't heard of Jeanette.
13:59The woman that answered essentially said she didn't know who it was that we were talking about.
14:05We then saw that number, that exact number, come up on that woman's phone.
14:09So, obviously, the person is trying to protect the woman's identity.
14:13She's very, very wary of us. Understandably so.
14:18Scroll down, down, down, down. Go down again.
14:20To the bottom.
14:22And click on continue.
14:24He's speeding up and speeding up, knowing that there's something happening here.
14:27I agree. You can hear it in his voice.
14:30It looks like Jeanette is now adding her bank card details,
14:34which are needed to send the huge payment to the scammer's crypto wallet.
14:40And scroll down slowly to the bottom.
14:43And you see by the next one.
14:45Someone's trying to ring me and I've got it.
14:47Take it, take it, take it.
14:49Jeanette doesn't pick up the call.
14:51Click on confirm on the very bottom, right?
14:54But there's a problem.
14:56Oh, it blocked the payment.
14:58But she can unblock it herself. That's the thing.
15:01That's what we have to stop happening now.
15:03Jeanette's bank's fraud detection system has blocked payments to the crypto wallet.
15:08It's buying us some time.
15:10But Scammer Alex isn't deterred.
15:13And you see something that says, be careful that you have some warning sense from our company, Jeanette.
15:19Well, this is the fraud prevention system that we send to our customers.
15:24OK. What do you see now in the screen? Do you see continue with the questionnaire?
15:28Click on it.
15:29He's telling Jeanette how to unblock the payment from her bank to him.
15:36Meanwhile, the other barber, who we spoke to earlier, is still trying to get through to Jeanette.
15:43She's calling her again, she's calling her again.
15:45Come on, take the call.
15:47Come on, come on, come on, come on, take it, take it, take it.
15:50No, click on no, I'm doing this myself, the second option, OK?
15:54The barber colleague also texts Jeanette to try and get her attention.
15:59This is urgent.
16:01Come on.
16:02Come on, colleague.
16:04I told you before, those people are calling because they know that they won't have any access to your pants
16:08anymore.
16:09That's the reason why they are calling.
16:11She's getting really frustrated.
16:13All right, you can speak with your friend later because it's very important.
16:16What do you see now, Jeanette?
16:18Come on.
16:19The scammer has talked Jeanette through unblocking her bank security checks and he's going in for the kill.
16:27Put the card number again, the one that you put before, the original card.
16:31But then, Jeanette gets another call.
16:40She left the meeting, she's gone.
16:45But Scammer Alex is quickly back on the line.
16:48Hello?
16:49Yes, but Jeanette, what happened? Why did you hang up the phone?
16:52Back on the call.
16:53Who, BBC inspectors calling you?
16:56Oh.
16:59That's not good.
17:02Jeanette.
17:07Jeanette has hung up the call and seems to be ignoring the scammers.
17:11But it looks like we may have been rumbled.
17:14This is extremely sub-ideal for us because now a guy who we have literally watched watching episodes of our
17:25show has just been told that this woman was contacted by us to stop the scam.
17:31And at this point, if he doesn't realise that we're in his computer, that'll be a maze.
17:37But Scammer Alex hasn't joined the dots.
17:40He's sending Jeanette an email asking her to get back in touch.
17:46He's very much just continuing the scam and he's not realised that we can see everything that he's doing.
17:51I really don't think he has.
17:54Someone's ringing me, someone's ringing me.
17:55It's Jeanette's colleague.
17:58Hello?
17:59Hello, I thought you was a scammer.
18:02Look, I completely get it.
18:04I totally understand.
18:05It happens a lot, believe me.
18:06And I've just rang my friend.
18:08She went, oh, my God, no, we watch that all the time.
18:11The colleague explains that Jeanette is working in a different branch.
18:16She's got your number, so hopefully she will get in contact.
18:19Thank you so much.
18:20I really, really, really appreciate it.
18:21And look, there's absolutely no problem from my side that you thought I was a scammer.
18:25I would rather people were suspicious of these things.
18:28All right, thank you so much for the call.
18:30All right, thank you.
18:30See you, bye-bye.
18:31Bye.
18:35Oh, gosh.
18:36Oh, gosh.
18:45All right.
18:47Getting Jeanette on the phone.
18:49Hello?
18:49Hi, is that Jeanette?
18:51It is.
18:52It is.
18:52Hello, Jeanette.
18:52This is Nick from Scam Interceptors calling.
18:54Oh, hiya.
18:55How are you?
18:57I'm all right.
18:59Just to explain that that man that you were on the phone to, he is not trying to help you
19:04claim lost cryptocurrency.
19:05He was very much trying to steal your money.
19:07Right.
19:09Yes.
19:10And I hope, was it your colleague who managed to get you on the phone to say?
19:15Yeah.
19:15Brilliant.
19:16Okay.
19:16I'm really glad to hear it because, yeah, we were worried about you.
19:19It was getting very close indeed.
19:20How did you find out about it?
19:22How did you find out about it that I was doing that then?
19:24We monitor the activity of Scam call centers and we can see some of the numbers that they're
19:29calling.
19:29And sometimes we can see the scammers computer screens as well.
19:33And today, the guy who was on the phone to you, we can see his screen.
19:38So, we could see also that when you were in this Google meeting with him, I don't know
19:43if you realized, but you were sharing your screen with him when you were in the call.
19:47So, he could see everything that was on your phone screen.
19:52Yeah.
19:52And what that means is, when you went into things like banking accounts, he could see
19:59all of that.
20:00Yeah, okay.
20:01And, Jeanette, do you mind if I ask, whereabouts are you now?
20:03Are you at work or are you at home?
20:05I'm at work, yes.
20:06So, just so you know, we sent two of our BBC journalists to Doncaster because we were
20:11worried about you and we wanted to get you some help.
20:14They are in the area.
20:15They've both got BBC IDs.
20:17They're very nice.
20:18They're called Nathan and Chris.
20:19They're more than happy to come and give you a hand if you want some help.
20:22Sorting this out.
20:24Because there was quite...
20:25Because I keep getting these people doing this.
20:29Because I had some crypto in...
20:31I've got some crypto in lockdown.
20:35Sure.
20:36I bought £1500 worth of crypto and this is the problem where they're saying that it's
20:41worth this and they want to help me to get into English money to put into my bank.
20:46Sure.
20:46Now this is the problem that I'm having.
20:48So, what I would say about what that man called you up and told you today, it's total rubbish,
20:54Jeanette.
20:54He says the same thing to every single person who he rings.
20:58Right.
20:58And the idea that there's £300,000 for you out there in cyberspace, I'm afraid it's just not true.
21:03Yes.
21:04And if you did invest £1500 in cryptocurrency at some point, you would need to try and remember
21:09where you bought it and go back to there to try and get it back again.
21:12Yes.
21:13But if someone's calling you up out of the blue saying, hey, we're going to help you reclaim your lost
21:17crypto,
21:17just put the phone down, OK?
21:18It's 100% going to be a scam.
21:20Okie doke, yeah.
21:21All right.
21:22I'm really glad that we were able to speak and that your colleague was so good to get you on
21:25the phone when she did.
21:27Yes.
21:28All right.
21:29Thanks, Jeanette.
21:30Bye-bye.
21:30See you.
21:33Oh, well done.
21:37That was one heck of a chase.
21:42Yes.
21:42We didn't have her phone number, didn't have her desk, didn't have her actual location.
21:45No.
21:46But thanks to getting someone nearby here...
21:48It works.
21:49It really works.
21:50Lucky for her.
21:51Yes.
21:52Because there was £1,000 on the line there and still where it belongs in her wallet.
21:58A couple of hours later, our ground interceptors, Nathan and Chris, meet Jeanette at her home.
22:05Hi, is it Jeanette?
22:06It is.
22:06My name's Nathan.
22:07I work for Scam Interceptors on BBC One.
22:10Come in.
22:10Is that all right?
22:11My colleague Chris is here as well.
22:12Is that okay?
22:13Yes.
22:14Have you just got back from work, have you?
22:15I have, yeah.
22:16And while Nathan and Chris are setting up to film, the phone rings.
22:23I can't take that.
22:24Hello?
22:27Hello?
22:29Hello?
22:29Hello, this is Jeanette.
22:31Yeah?
22:33Hi, Jeanette, this is Julian.
22:34You were engaged with Mr. Alex earlier and he told me that you hang up the phone on
22:38him on the last step for some reason, since you're receiving a lot of phone calls.
22:42What happened?
22:43May I know the reason why you hang up the phone on the phone, please?
22:46In order to maintain our cover, we asked Jeanette to tell the scammer that Nathan is
22:51a friend who has raised the alarm.
22:54The reason why I put the phone down, because my friend said it was a scam.
22:59Your friend told you that this is a scam?
23:01Yes.
23:02So, you're telling us that your friend that has nothing to do with cryptos has told you
23:07that this is a scam.
23:09But my dear, how you can believe a friend, right, that has nothing to do with cryptocurrencies,
23:14they don't know about crypto, they don't even know how the crypto works, that this is
23:19a scam.
23:19That's not something correct.
23:22Okay?
23:23So, if somebody tells you that we are a scam, there should be facts and proofs.
23:28Not only in words.
23:30Hello there.
23:31Hello there.
23:32I'm Jeanette's friend, and I'm the one that told her that this is a scam.
23:37What would you like her to do now, right now?
23:39Why are you calling her now?
23:42Why we are calling her now?
23:44Yes.
23:44I don't know if you're aware, but she has a constant balance of money of 4.7 bitcoins.
23:50That's complete rubbish.
23:51Oh, my God.
23:52Oh, my God.
23:53But, sir, calm down, first of all, because we're not speaking about...
23:56I am calm.
23:57Okay, calm down.
23:58I'm completely calm.
24:00I'm just telling you that that is absolute nonsense.
24:02What you're saying is absolute nonsense.
24:04Who are you to make decisions on her behalf?
24:07What's your job?
24:08What's your profession?
24:09I'm not making any decisions on her behalf at all.
24:12I'm just...
24:12Jeanette's asked me for some advice.
24:15You're stopping her to make decisions.
24:18So, who are you?
24:19I'm not stopping her to make any decisions.
24:21I'm Jeanette's friend.
24:22I've come to help her.
24:24And I know 100% that you are a scammer.
24:28You're giving her the wrong advice, obviously.
24:31Because a real fan, first of all, would do the act like that.
24:35Because I don't believe my fans stopped me to make this kind of...
24:40Prove...
24:41Oh, yeah.
24:42Prove...
24:43Can you prove...
24:44Can you prove that you are from a legitimate company?
24:48I prove it to her.
24:49I don't have to prove it to you, sir.
24:51Right.
24:51We know that you're a scammer.
24:53Please do not call this number.
24:54I can't prove it to anybody, all right?
24:56Do not call this number ever again.
24:58We know that this is a scam.
25:00Goodbye.
25:02This is what I keep getting all the time.
25:05It's ridiculous.
25:06So, how often are you getting these calls?
25:07At least once a week.
25:09And I just say, I'm not interested, I'm not interested.
25:11But the pressure, even just me speaking to him then...
25:15Yeah.
25:15..I could feel him just pressuring me into sort of...
25:18Yeah.
25:19..what right have you got to make decisions on Jeanette's behalf
25:23and all that sort of thing?
25:24It's terrible, isn't it?
25:25Oh, it really is, yeah.
25:27To know how to prey on you.
25:31Jeanette confirms that she did indeed lose £3,000
25:35to a scammer just months earlier.
25:38How are you feeling now after what's happened
25:41over the last few months, you know, having lost what you have?
25:44Oh, I don't trust anybody.
25:46I won't be trusting anybody whatsoever again.
25:50Well, I just feel...
25:52Cos that money I was saving up to buy a motorbike,
25:55and I haven't been able to do that now.
25:58The £3,000 that I had.
26:00So that's actually all the savings you had...
26:02..of going towards a motorbike.
26:04Yeah.
26:04Yeah.
26:05Yeah.
26:07So sorry, Jeanette.
26:09Oh, it's my own fault, isn't it, really?
26:11For trusting people.
26:13You know, it's not your fault.
26:15This is...
26:16It happens to...
26:17It can happen to anybody, Jeanette.
26:18Nathan and Chris helped Jeanette contact her bank
26:21to alert it to the scam attempt
26:24and to triple-check, she didn't send any money
26:27to the scammer this time.
26:29And, you know, just don't be afraid
26:32to just hang the phone up in the future.
26:34No, I won't do.
26:34If you don't recognise the number, just don't accept the call,
26:37just put the phone down.
26:38Yeah. Mm-hm.
26:39So, anyway, thank you so much, Jeanette.
26:42Anyway, take care.
26:43All the best.
26:44Yeah.
26:45We put all our allegations to these Tirana-based scammers
26:49who initially closed their operation and went underground.
26:53However, the criminals have since re-emerged,
26:57running the same scam targeting people across Europe and Canada.
27:03We will continue to monitor their activity
27:05and have passed all our information about this scam call centre
27:09onto the authorities in Albania.
27:16If you think you've been scammed,
27:18then there are some steps you need to take straight away.
27:22Firstly, and most importantly, call your bank.
27:25The number is usually on the back of your bank card.
27:28Then remove any software that scammers asked you
27:31to install on your phone or laptop.
27:33If you're not sure how to do this, then ask a friend or family member.
27:37Change your passwords on as many online accounts as you can
27:40and then keep a close eye on them over the coming days
27:43to see if there's any unusual activity.
27:45Tell your friends and family so that if they receive any online approaches
27:49claiming to be from you, that they could be fake.
27:52Contact Report Fraud.
27:53Go to reportfraud.police.uk or call 0300 123 2040.
27:59If you're in Scotland, report the crime to the police on 101.
28:04And if you've had a scam text, report that to 7726.
28:08That's spam as it's written on your phone's keypad.
28:11The more that you report, the more that could be done to stop them.
28:18The far film.
28:18The the.
