00:07Tonight, the New York Yankees mourn the loss of their longtime radio announcer, John Sterling,
00:15who passed away this morning at the age of 87.
00:20John was the voice of the Yankees for 36 years and 5,651 games,
00:27including the last five world championships.
00:32At this time, we ask you to direct your attention to the video board in center field,
00:37as we remember John Sterling.
00:46He is part of the fabric of baseball and the biggest city in this country.
00:51For many generations, there will only be one, the voice of the New York Yankees,
00:56the Golden Pipes, John Sterling.
00:59The voice of the Yankees, you know, you turn on a lot of those old highlights,
01:03so many great calls, the home run calls especially.
01:05The voice for so many years, so many huge moments, legendary moments.
01:09Your voice has been synonymous with some of the biggest moments of the last several decades,
01:15especially my childhood.
01:16John Sterling is kind of that voice that we'll always remember in championships World Series that he's sang out,
01:22and just that voice will kind of always be echoed for eternity.
01:25So we're forever grateful for John and everything he's done.
01:28Going to miss his calls, his home run calls, that booming voice.
