26:48was going to ask you, when were you the most nervous? Was it takeoff? Was it landing?
26:54About 30 seconds ago? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Could be that as well.
26:58I mean, you know, launch, people think of launch because they see the rocket, but it's actually, for us, re
27:03-entry way wilder of a ride.
27:06Launch? Yes.
27:07Really?
27:07Coming back to a planet is no joke. You might think, let's land the plane.
27:14No, it is nothing like that. You know, you're taking off and it's just a little rumble. You don't see
27:18anything. You're looking around your friends.
27:20You hear the explosions? Not so much. Now on re-entry, yes, exactly. You come back.
27:26Because it's loud when it's here. It is, but in there, not so much. You come back, you are a
27:32literal plasma ball, and you see the fire outside every single window, and then you're like, so I'm in the
27:39flames.
27:39Right, right, right. It's like that far away. We are the fire. Really? Right there. Right there.
27:43Right there. And are you, are you, are you, is it hot? Clearly not, right? It gets a little warm.
27:47It does.
27:47It actually does. Really? And we have to set the stage, like you're, you're coming, we're watching the altimeter click
27:53down. You're going six miles a second.
27:57Six miles a second? 39 times the speed of sound. Six miles a second.
28:01We're hitting the atmosphere. Are you hearing clicks? Are you hearing clicks?
28:03No, but we're like talking about it, and you're watching that number click down, but you don't really feel that
28:07speed until you hit it.
28:09the atmosphere, and then you start to slow down.
28:11Uh, Reid, uh, you have, uh, took one of the coolest pictures I, I could even imagine. Uh, it's you
28:17looking at Earth.
28:19Um, it seems unreal. It's incredibly emotional, but the, about five seconds before that photo was taken, I was looking
28:27at Christina, and she was taking a selfie out the window.
28:29I was like, what are you doing? She's like, I think you should come here and look at this. And
28:32I popped my head in the window next to her, and that's the view.
28:35I mean, that's, that's all of our planet right there. And, uh, we were lucky to have some phones with
28:40us and able to take those pictures.
28:42We were talking about the feelings, you know, of launch and entry, but those feelings are impressive, and I mean,
28:47they get your attention.
28:48But the thing that is hard to understand is we're constantly going away from or back to the planet, so
28:52it's changing the whole mission and the view.
28:54That is really what gets you. We would be eating or washing up, getting ready for bed or something, and
28:59you look out the window and you just see that Earth out there.
29:02And it was so amazing to see.
29:03Well, you got to see the, the dark side of the moon. I mean, you really, to the far side
29:08of the moon.
29:09What did it feel like when you were, when did you first kind of see it? And you go, guys,
29:13we're seeing it. We're seeing something that no one's seen.
29:15Yeah, it actually happened earlier than we thought. A couple of days before, we looked at the moon and we're
29:20like, wow, that looks weird.
29:21It's because of the angle we had, we were now seeing parts of the far side from a distance, and
29:26we all glued to the windows just to check that out.
29:30Reid, you had a very special moment where you named a crater in honor of your late wife, Carol. It
29:37was an incredibly moving gesture. Did you always, was that the plan?
29:41That was definitely not the plan. But when you're flying in space with three of the greatest humans you could
29:46ever fly in space with, Christina came up with that idea.
29:49And at Kennedy Space Center, before we launched, Jeremy asked me if that was something that we should do as
29:54a crew.
29:55That was a crew decision. And Jeremy gave one of the most moving speeches. And that moment was a great
30:00honor for my kids.
30:01My kids were in mission control, Ellie and Katie, when that happened, and they didn't know anything about it.
30:05It's deeply moving for them, but also for the four of us that kind of solidified us as a crew.
30:11Like we are, we are bonded forever.
30:19I have to ask you, how big is it and how, or how small is it? I heard it's like
30:23the size of maybe two minivans, which is a weird comparison.
30:26Are we talking about the spacecraft? That's being a little gracious. Two minivans.
