00:00Hello everyone, this is William Chambers. It's good to be here with you all today.
00:03Today I want to talk about casting your bread into uncertainty. We're talking about faith today.
00:11Oh, let me just give you a little background story before we get into the text. In ancient days,
00:16businessmen would load their supply, load their bread onto ships, their grain onto ships,
00:22and push them out into the dangerous sea. Once the ships disappeared, all they could do was wait
00:31for their profit to return. And this is how ancient businessmen gained their wealth.
00:39What does this have to do with me? This has to do with faith. They had to push something out
00:44into
00:44the unknown and wait for a return. Oftentimes God calls us to push something out.
00:52Whether it be your resources, whether it be your effort, whether it be your reputation,
00:57he asks us to give something up. Oftentimes God requires us to let go of some things,
01:03some things that sustain us, like our resources, like our effort, like our reputation. He wants us
01:09to sow into the kingdom, something that will cost us. Sometimes he wants us to get out of our
01:14comfort zone, give that up, and trust that you will get a return from it. So that's what we're
01:20talking about. We're talking about having faith today. Faith to obey God without immediate feedback.
01:27Faith to sow into the kingdom of God without seeing what's going on. We're talking about faith
01:33to release to God what you owe dear. So I'm coming out of the text. It says,
01:40Cast thy bread unto the waters, for thou shalt find it after many days. This text is calling us to
01:49release before we ever see results. The businessmen back in ancient days, they would ship overseas.
01:57They would load ships up with grain and they took risks, meaning that storms could destroy their ships,
02:05dust destroying their grain, meaning that pirates could steal the grain, meaning that ships could sink
02:13and they would lose the grain altogether. So these businessmen still obeyed knowing that there was risk.
02:19And once the ship left the harbor, there was no more control. They lost control of everything.
02:26Sometimes God calls us to lose control. I want you to lose control and give it unto me,
02:32release it unto me. Help us, God, to release. This is faith that had to operate in unstable conditions.
02:40They had to release their grain out into the sea. The Bible says, Cast thy bread upon the waters.
02:46When we're talking about waters, we're talking about waters are unstable. They rise, they fall, they shift,
02:51they move. They're unstable. Bread that's placed on water does not stay where you put it.
02:57Oh, it's gone. Once you send it out, it's gone. It drifts and then it disappears.
03:01They had to drift their bread out into uncertainty. Help us, God, to take steps of uncertainty when you call
03:08upon us.
03:09So the Bible says, Cast thy bread upon the waters, for thou shalt find it after many days.
03:15After many days. They had to accept delay. It was going to be delayed many days. This text says many
03:21days.
03:21You don't know when it's going to come back. You have to accept delay without panic. It's delayed.
03:28It's taking a while, but I'm not going to panic. I'm going to trust.
03:31They had no schedule for when it's going to come back. They had to trust God.
03:36After many days, thou shalt find it.
03:40We have to put our faith in God that God will give us return.
03:44The promise is that God will return what you release.
03:48Help us to release God.
03:50What we surrender to God is not lost.
03:54Faith is resting in the character of God.
03:57Faith believes that what it released into the hands of God is safer than what I've held on to.
04:04Help us, God, to believe in your character more than ourselves.
04:08Help us to release what you've given to us.
04:11Lord, help us to cast our bread upon water, for we shall find it after many days.
04:22Well, that's all I have for today, but I want to say consistency in the word of God will change
04:30your life.
04:32Let's continue therein and let us pray that God helps us all.
04:38Until we meet again, God bless.
