00:001 Sekunden lap 27 Mercedes pulled up in they chose to undercut and we heard
00:05Lando saying they're quite simply we should have put it first we got on the
00:09car it was a very good stop by the Mercedes team they ended up doing a 2.2
00:14stop which was six tenths faster than the McLaren pit stop but crucially as we
00:20heard Andrea Stella saying Antonelli's outlap was outstanding he gave 1.4
00:25seconds I'll tell you what I'll go to the the on boards he gained 1.4 seconds on
00:31the outlap so the combination of the undercut fresh tires and the faster pit
00:35stop that's where the time deficit was made up now it was a fun moment the
00:39cool-down rumors of Atlanta said I didn't know where you were Kimi said I nearly
00:43hit him let's see as they come out of the pit exit at this point Lando can't see
00:48Antonelli you can just see Lando's front wing there but he can't see Kimi Kimi's
00:55in the blind spot and as we come out of the corner it is there's just a little
01:00gap there so Lando won't be able to see where Kimi is Kimi then sets the move up
01:04for the exit at this point Lando's fully aware that he's alongside he's got more
01:09momentum he's got more speed he's deployed the energy and this was the
01:12race-winning move so six tenths on the pit stop one and a half seconds or so 1.4
01:18on the outlap and eventually that momentum that was a race-winning move and
01:22Lando could not recover it from them so fantastic work by Kimi and and Mercedes
01:27and I believe his boss is with you so I'll throw it back indeed congratulations
01:31Toto thanks thanks Karun what let's start with Kimi there's a lot to be proud
01:37of today but three wins in a row he's made history there first person to
01:41convert their first three pole positions into victory no one's ever done that
01:45before he's precocious talent isn't he yeah I hope he can continue on this
01:52positive slope most important is not to be carried away he has a we have a good
01:57car hopefully the upgrades work next race but he has a fierce competitor in his
02:02teammate also who wasn't happy with with the track this weekend so just
02:07important to keep both feet on the ground no doubt that he's a rising star with
02:13an incredible talent a lot of speed so so how promising is this considering you
02:17guys didn't bring as many upgrades as everyone this weekend still be ahead of
02:21the pack with your upgrades still coming is this good news well sometimes
02:25upgrades don't correlate with a lot with the stopwatch so we need to prove that
02:29out and I hope we can and you know you this is gonna be a development race this
02:35season how much can you bring are you limited better cost cap you know all
02:39these things Blake play a player role none of the wins have been easy for Kimi
02:44have they they've always been a little bit on the back foot at the start we see
02:48him fighting through he's got that real killer instinct in him but he also can
02:52lead from the front as we saw in Japan so there's that was the areas he could
02:56still improve but it's it's amazing with someone so young isn't it to have all all
03:01of that already yeah I mean you know you know best I think leading with someone
03:07really putting pressure on you from behind particularly the beginning of the
03:11stints with Norris and then sustaining this pressure and being able to drive
03:15away he's really a great great character trait that he has among the many the
03:20speed and and now we add to that some more experience I think we're talking about
03:25lots of success in the future a screen pointed out there at the sky pad it was
03:30a brilliant outlet but it was also a very good very sharp strategic decision on
03:34the pit wall today how proud are you of that obviously McLaren have been at the
03:38the sharp end for the last couple of years you've been there in the past you
03:42know that but there have been different faces that have come in Toto and just to
03:46get one over on them it's cost for a victory today how proud of you yeah it was a
03:52brilliant move from the strategy team back back in Brackley and and also here
03:58because we were at 1.8 1.9 second behind Lando and it's almost you know it's
04:03quite risky but then the stop was perfect the outlet was great he went for the
04:10move right at the beginning and I think that was you know these various parts of
04:15the team doing a brilliant job that that won the race now if I can move it on to
04:19the other side of the garage I know it's been a tough weekend for George it
04:22doesn't seem to be a track that suits his driving style how do you manage this I
04:26know that it's early doors I know we don't want to be too reactive but you've
04:29had intra-team battles before what notes have you taken from the past to manage
04:33things George is so experienced by now and throughout the weekend we talked that
04:38this is a bit of a boogie boogie track for him and that is that is
04:43absolutely understood so I I think there's nothing gonna be in the back back of
04:48our heads when we go to Montreal Kimmy was quite vocal on the radio had a few
04:52issues with the car I wasn't quite happy when he was under pressure how
04:57important is Bono for him do you think in the race to keep him calm collected to
05:02reassure him of his talent but also that everything is okay as Amy you know Amy
05:08runs our rely tracks that reliability she's never been on the podium and I got
05:12her bang with the champagne in the face I really enjoyed seeing that she deserves
05:16it in terms of its Italians this this weekend I mean obviously on Friday no
05:22question didn't answer question didn't I want to I want to pick up Bono
05:34is so much experience he worked with with the greats and and therefore he's been
05:42with Louis over so many years and then part of the Kimmy project straight from
05:46the beginning he knows how to handle him and he's someone that you know part of
05:52part of the success so far it is 20 points though and I know you're gonna
05:56repeatedly tell us even though we're gonna keep annoying you and product you
05:59all year has he got opportunity has a good opportunity it is 20 point gap now
06:04over George and if his confidence keeps expanding like this it's gonna be hard
06:09to say oh it's gonna be hard to keep along that that track isn't it George is a
06:15killer okay and what makes him so good is that he never stops fighting and never
06:22attacking and I've seen him throughout the career in junior formulas or
06:26casting junior formulas in here you know he's he's going for this he was not
06:31gonna leave no stone unturned I have no doubt that they towards them gonna
06:36kind of fight for points throughout the season there's also no doubt that he's
06:39such a hard worker just a quick one from me so how good does it feel to be
06:43seeing your drivers we can we got back on the top step of the podium it's been a
06:46moment we we we're still a bit bruised because we had how much 60 80 weekends
06:53where that wasn't the case yeah in the past so winning four races it's just so
07:01rewarding for everyone back at home there's so much stress and stress stress
07:05in the organization so much pressure but then at the same time we showed
07:10resilience you know kept the mindset in the right place and that's something
07:14that's probably what makes me most proud not only what the drivers do but what
07:19we all together the two and a half thousand people in bricks was and in
07:21Brackley have really kept going over those years I think Yannick Sinner has
07:26just won Madrid as well so this this is continuing that they seem to be
07:30winning Kimi Antonelli and Sinner in the tennis
07:32don't unlock any more superstition it's a superstitious thing and then of course
07:36you had Gabriel Mini who won in the F2 today so a good weekend for Italy on on
07:42the weekend though that we lost Alex and Art is just the final word on that you
07:46know it's you know we've we've lost a great man from from motorsport this
07:49weekend and the Italians doing him proud yeah I start with Kimi Antonelli because
07:54the other one is much more important to finish up with it I mean we just need to be
07:59careful that all of Italy is not going to go mad which sports does now that the
08:05football is not playing in the exactly yeah but as a matter of fact here comes
08:10the winning car as a matter of fact we need to we need to keep him both feet on
08:16the ground that's the most important and obviously if the country is behind you
08:19that's gonna be difficult and on Alex I Alex Sinner is just iconic you know I
08:25remember him from my junior days what he's done what he's done in Formula One and
08:32then especially in the United States in IndyCar I think it was called the move or
08:37the pass the pass in Laguna Seca you guys should play that it's the greatest
08:43overtake that I've ever seen in a single Cita and and then his career after the
08:48accident chapeau to his achievements we're just mere mortals but what he has
08:54done in his career is great let me go and raise a glass to him and a glass as
08:59well to give you well done Toto congratulations on another fine weekend
09:03and they'll be looking forward to those upgrade package in Montreal as well it's
09:08it's ominous isn't it okay let's hear from Kimi's teammate is George Russell
09:13I'm literally just reading your race George in my notes right now because do you think there are any
09:19opportunities that you missed today did you get some damage from the contact and
09:23was there anything left out there I know you made up places at the end was there
09:26anything left out there do you feel no just difficult race beginning felt okay to be
09:31honest those early laps sort of in the fight and then the hard tire was just
09:35nowhere and got some ideas to be honest the last 10 laps were much more
09:40competitive made some quite big changes with my differentials and my brake bias
09:45much closer to what Kimi has been running this this whole weekend and it made a
09:49bigger impact than I thought but still I just have not a good weekend I know this
09:54place is always real tough one for me so the real test will come in the next few
10:00Montreal is a better racetrack for you historically I know there are updates coming as
10:03well but what sort of challenge do you feel you've got from your teammate right
10:07now then because when you look at the race today that was very calm and
10:09controlled from someone so young and I think maybe people have underestimated him
10:13before now have you underestimated him? No not at all I mean he's a fantastic driver and
10:17he's been exceptionally quick since since day one you know you don't win all of the
10:23championships as a youngster if you don't have the speed but you know I've still
10:29got the confidence in myself and I've also been there I've not forgotten I've
10:33drive and it's just a little bit of a tricky run but with four races down a
10:38long way to go and I think as I said we'll reassess things over these next few
10:43weeks thank you yeah so let's get into to George and what's been going on with
10:50with him this weekend actually this season and the pressure that he must feel
10:54under now when he when you see this guys this sport can be extremely difficult at
11:00times got it if you're the receiving end I think he's probably just like what what
11:04just happened you know he was the favorite and the quickest at the start
11:09of the year and yeah but I mean Kimi's exceptionally talented but the thing is
11:13with George he's confident himself he knows that he has the skill and I and I'm
11:18I'm really happy that he's letting us all know you know certain things aren't
11:22right for me and and I think that's the best way to say it because then you can
11:25work on work on those issues moving forward if you bottle up inside it's the
11:30worst thing possible so he's doing the right thing and and I think he'll come
11:33out strong in Canada when he goes to sleep at night though what's he really
11:38thinking I mean I mean I you know does it we put pressure on himself is he the
11:42kind of guy I mean we know he leaves no stone unturned but he's got a he's got to
11:47arrest this life very quickly doesn't he yeah he's a very hard worker just to your
11:51point but no driver wants to be beaten by their teammates certainly not George you
11:55know he's spent a lot of years at Williams then finally made the move over
11:58to Mercedes without a competitive car now he's got one and his teammates been
12:02beating him but I think that he'll take some reassurance and the fact that Kimi
12:06hasn't been faultless right like he's gonna make mistakes over the season and
12:09maybe George's consistency is gonna be maybe what what helps him out in the end
12:13but he's got to contend with Kimi's raw speed and the fact that he can just
12:16deliver incredible lap time so lots of work to be done and it's it's never nice but
12:21I'm sure he can bounce back from this he's under investigation for moving
12:24under breaking it turn at 17 we'll have another look at that when we come back
12:29right DHL fastest lap this afternoon well a crumb of comfort that went to Lando
12:35Norris towards the end of that race with a 1.31.869 so he gets the DHL fastest lap
12:50but your winner for a third time in a row and the first man to convert their first
12:56three pole positions into victory in the history of the sport Kimi Antonelli more
13:01reaction from here in Miami in a couple of moments time don't go anywhere
13:15a superstar born in the early part of this season we were denied alas seeing Max Verstappen go toe to
13:23toe with Kimi Antonelli but in the end
13:25uh another stout performance congratulations from all of those around him
13:29ah this was just true as well let's go to Karuna some great racing at the end
13:37thank you Simon yeah the last lap and a half was brilliant wasn't it you see
13:41Charles Leclerc there battling against Oscar Piastri this was of course
13:44the final step on the podium the uh the battle here so Piastri tried to attack into 11
13:51didn't quite get the move done there went for the outside Leclerc defended then on
13:55the run up to 17 he's in the slipstream and then gets the move down the inside one
14:01thing I did notice here if we go back you can see Leclerc's driving along he's got
14:07the straight line mode closed so I think he's he's almost setting up the uh the opportunity he's
14:15trying to almost entice Piastri to go ahead so he can get the move done at another place there he
14:20pops
14:20it back open again so there's a bit of gamesmanship going on from Charles Leclerc where he almost
14:24wanted to be overtaken into 17 at the same time further back George Russell went past Max Verstappen so
14:32that was happening a few seconds further behind now unfortunately Leclerc whatever tactics he was
14:38trying to work make work didn't work because when he came out of 17 he had a moment lost momentum
14:44then
14:44he had a bigger moment out of turn two had that spin hit the wall and I think might have
14:50picked up
14:50some sort of damage so as the lap unfolded he's now no longer battling Piastri he's now dropped into
14:56the clutches of this Russell Verstappen battle down the back straight riding on board with George Russell
15:02he went for a move down the outside now they made a bit of contact in case you missed it
15:06I'll slow it
15:07down watch the I'll play it in slow-mo watch the contact there Russell coming across a bit and they
15:13just touch and he is I think being investigated for this particular bit here George Russell by the
15:21stewards of moving under braking let's have a look at it from Max Verstappen's cockpit because he had
15:26the best view and once again up ahead you could see there's Russell and Leclerc and George does come
15:36over there a little bit to the left you could see this this gap that's what Ferrari will be saying
15:42he's
15:42deviated from the racing line in the braking zone so that's what Ferrari would have alerted to the
15:48stewards that's where the the investigation is probably coming from so we'll see what what happens when George
15:54goes to speak to them but Leclerc out of the last corner I think he used all of his battery
15:58to try
15:59and defend on the way into 17 then ran out of juice which allowed Verstappen just pip him to the
16:04line
16:04we must remember Max of course is still being investigated for the pit exit and maybe I'll quickly
16:11show you that as well because that will have an impact see here this is where we have to just
16:17have a
16:17quick look does he go over the white line on that frame it does look like to me it's quite
16:26close we
16:27need really an off-board rearward camera to see whether the rear tires have gone over and that's
16:31what the stewards will be looking at back to you Simon yeah he's going to the the stewards in about
16:37half
16:38an hour for that we'll talk about Max when we come back well I think we're going to focus if
16:42we could
16:43right now on the Ferrari drivers they're six and seventh in the end for Charles Leclerc and Lewis
16:48Hamilton let's start with Charles Leclerc who had that horrible moment right at the last lap
16:53Charles I don't think anyone can say you weren't trying out there today I mean you got a fantastic
16:57lead through your start and then lost out in the pit stops and then that last lap heartbreak as well
17:03can you just tell me what was going on and where it went away from you today
17:07my mister I mean it's all on me and I don't have much to add other than that's very disappointed
17:14with with my mistake it shouldn't happen I've pushed very hard in the second to last lap I
17:21thought it was a good idea to kind of let Oscar go for him to get the for me to
17:27get the overtake I
17:28knew it was going to be very difficult to to stand in front otherwise and oh yeah I mean it
17:35was a very
17:36poor decisions and in the space of four corners I put a very strong race in the bin so I'm
17:42very
17:42frustrated about about that yeah not much more to say sadly you have to go to the stewards as well
17:49because they're saying you left the track too many times getting an advantage but also I think they're
17:53looking at whether or not you drove the car in an unsafe condition on the last lap I'm just hearing
17:57as
17:57well now I don't know what will be the decision I guess we'll have to wait and and see the
18:06thing I can
18:07say is that I did my best to try and make the corners first of all and yeah it was
18:12probably a
18:12lot more difficult than what it looked from outside but it's better hi Lois the team got a lot of
18:23updates
18:23here this weekend and I know there would have been hope for some progress how would you assess this
18:27weekend
18:29um obviously not a good weekend at all seventh and the seventh just uh no man's land on both
18:37both races but particularly today with uh with the damage there's nothing I could do so yeah really
18:44unfortunate because the team works so hard so it's come away with a few points so yeah we have to
18:51move on from here how do you see that first lap
18:56just contact I was unlucky with max that spinning and I had to go to the right of him I
19:03had a good
19:03a good turn one and I was in a good position and then the only way I could go was
19:08was right and so then
19:09I lost positions from there and then obviously uh I think it was Franco that hit me and yeah lost
19:15a lot
19:16of performance from there
19:21ah well Lois unlucky today uh obviously got clipped by uh Colopinto who finished behind him in eighth but
19:27obviously it was first lap leniency from the stewards um but he lost 10 to 15 points of downforce and
19:32it
19:32cost him in the end yeah well you could see that he obviously didn't make any gains after that he
19:36kind
19:36of went backwards and I think it's unfortunate for Lewis I think you were they were all very excited
19:40and motivated here you see the move here yeah look it's it's tough there's obviously not much room
19:46there and Lewis is obviously you know coming towards the wall but Colopinto could possibly have left him
19:50more space but as you say oh yeah tricky one there it's also a tricky one because I don't even
19:55know if
19:55he saw him you know he was still in front when he entered the corner and he's not looking to
20:00the
20:00right most likely he's looking left to turn into the corner so it's a tricky one I think it's a
20:03an unlucky
20:04incident overall though JB just to come back to you on Ferrari's weekend um you know they had the
20:09most upgrades here what was it 11 in in total completely new car and looked okay first part
20:15of the weekend drifted away from them and then yeah mistakes in sprint qualifying and all of that
20:20they just it was just a scrappy weekend all around wasn't it yeah we definitely expected more
20:25from them and uh when Charles was third on the grid it was like oh he's he's gonna be leading
20:29and
20:29there's a great chance for him and he did and the fight was there the fight was there wasn't it
20:33with
20:34uh with Lando and with Kimi but uh they just fell away especially on the hard attire they they seem
20:39to struggle and it was a massive amount as well compared to the first two and only himself to
20:44claim and he's held his hands up but to make a mistake like that cost him three places yeah just
20:49to add a sort of salt into injury um not exactly what you want to see so there's not much
20:52to comment
20:53on that he's obviously made a mistake he's hit the wall and then he's paid the the repercussions of
20:56that but more importantly I think today's been really a story of drivers being disciplined a
21:01little bit about how they deploy the battery and instead of making moves when they think you know
21:05it naturally comes to them as a good idea to overtake here you need a little bit more restraints and
21:10start
21:10to think strategically where does it make more sense because the drivers get back to you so Charles
21:14didn't also have the easiest run before the incident either okay we're gonna hear from Max after
21:18the break but first things first let's return to the front of the grid here from the race winner first
21:22Kimi Antaleli and then the runner-up Lando Norris Kimi I don't know if you're aware of the stat but
21:28every time Yannick wins a tournament on the Sunday you win the race as well so uh you're matching each
21:33other at the moment but a fantastic outlet from you today as well really helped you keep that place
21:38ahead of Lando is that ultimately where it came from today or what do you put the wind down to
21:44yeah I mean it was the key that undercut uh the outlet was uh was uh was very strong um
21:51and uh also I
21:53think the team picked the right moment to do so because I came out that I had no traffic and
21:58I was
21:58able to push cleanly uh so that allowed me to then uh make the move again and uh so yeah
22:08very happy with
22:08that are you surprising yourself at the moment with how you're driving how you're staying so calm and
22:14controlled it's not off it at all how you're staying so calm and controlled in all these situations
22:19because the start today wasn't great again but you got over it you got back through the field and
22:23you controlled the race yeah it was uh definitely you know I feel stronger and stronger every time
22:29more more in control of the situation I still think that uh sometime you know I could remain a
22:35bit more calm I was a bit stressed when I had a couple of downshift issue and half shifts and
22:39I
22:39was very stressed and I should have just stayed a bit more calm but uh overall you know I was
22:45uh
22:45was uh with a strong race and I'm happy with uh that we brought we brought it home
22:53Lando you're there listening to those answers are you surprised could you have done that at 18 were
22:57you the same sort of driver in those circumstances um that's a long time ago now it's not that long
23:05ago it's like eight years ago it's crazy um he's doing a very good job hats off to him um
23:11at that age
23:12second year in formula one uh he's doing an incredible job it's impressive um to perform under
23:18pressure to to be beating his teammate that's been in it for a long long um he's doing all the
23:24right
23:24things you know so you can't really fault a lot of a lot of years last year um but he's
23:31proving a lot
23:32of people wrong so I'm very happy for him he's a very nice guy and um it's also annoying because
23:37I want to beat him but uh he's doing a good job so um credits to him could you have
23:43beaten him today
23:43I know that stop if it's been fractionally quicker that stop you may have come out in front of him
23:48do you
23:48think that's where it was lost or what what are your thoughts um we should should have we should have
23:52boxed first simple as that uh I don't know if it might stop being too tense quicker it helps you
23:57could in some ways it could have made it worse because he could have just got a better run all
23:59the way around turn two and three and easily pass me you know so let's uh yeah I think we
24:05just have
24:06to be honest and say we should have boxed before we shouldn't have been um waiting he was quite a
24:10bit
24:10quicker at that point of the race I told the team that I think quite at the pace comparing to
24:15him at that
24:15point and um we didn't really seem to do a lot about it um so yeah we'll we have to
24:23go review
24:23things honestly I think the win was we could have fought for it more I don't know if he still
24:28would have had better pace his pace was better than us today so I don't know if he still would
24:32have come out behind me and maybe he still would have overtaken me but we could have done more
24:37to defend for the win today so we need to review some things and uh yeah see what we could
24:42have done
24:43better thank you thank you well I think as I mentioned we're going to discuss this when we
24:48come back from the break I think it was probably only Max Verstappen and Lando Norris that could
24:53have lived with the pace of Kimi Antonelli today I mean if you look at the difference between those
24:57two at the front you know it's a matter of a couple of seconds between Kimi and Lando the rest
25:01miles
25:02behind and obviously Max was charging through the field at a brilliant drive his tyres just fell away
25:07because they were so much older and he pitched after seven laps would that be fair yeah well we don't
25:11really
25:11know his pace if he was on the same age tyres as them do we really uh because he was
25:15always in traffic
25:15but uh you got to say to the first two yeah unbelievable the pace they had compared to their
25:20teammates I know that Oscar Piastri fought his way through and he did a really good job doing that
25:24and getting on the podium but still 27 seconds it's a lot so fair play to those two they pushed
25:29each other so hard today uh and it felt like either of them could have won it was uh the
25:34small little
25:35mistakes that uh made the difference nice to see though that the upgrades worked in that you know they can
25:40take the fight we think we're going to get a lot of that this this year but now we have
25:44to wait and
25:44see what the Mercedes upgrade looks like in Montreal and I know they're bringing some parts as well and
25:49if they're on the par at the end of that then potentially even more game on well Toto seems to
25:54be a little bit conservative about it I mean I would have read these results as to say they haven't
25:58really bought much at all this weekend the others have and they're still ahead so I would have said good
26:02news Toto seems to believe that you know correlation is important and he doesn't know for a fact that
26:06those parties bringing in Montreal will deliver but let's see I mean Max obviously as well the
26:11Red Bull lighter this weekend more upgrades and was also in the mix we always we stopped talking about
26:16the rain though because there was always that threat of rain I know I know you really wanted
26:19the rain didn't you yeah well there was a lot of threats of it and then it felt like the
26:24pitbull was
26:24always hesitant you know do we pit now do we wait and they opted to do to pit earlier which
26:29at some
26:29point looked like it would have been the best strategy but it just didn't end up playing out that way
26:32yeah well they moved it forward they got the window the weather window that they wanted because
26:35when we arrived as we said it was hosing it down this morning and there's a few dark clouds
26:39around now but still no spots of rain as promised when we come back we'll discuss that drive
26:45by Max Verstappen it started with a spin he then went through the field and another great drive
26:51from the four-time world champion
27:01uh congratulations to the race winner from the driver of the day uh Max Verstappen you could
27:07ugly argue two generational talents uh having a quiet word with each other let's hear from Max Verstappen
27:13he's in the Perry Rachel hi Max that was eventful um let's talk about the first lap and and whether
27:22you think actually the wind might have been there for you today have things gone your way a bit more
27:26uh yeah i lost the rear into turn two and then uh tried to minimize the time lost with the
27:31360.
27:32um and then we opted to go early onto the hard tire but that hard tire didn't work for us
27:37so i had no
27:38no real pace and grip on that compound for whatever reason so uh yeah it was tough um i don't
27:44think we
27:44would have fought for the win at all i mean we we dropped quite quite heavily um maybe i could
27:50have
27:51uh been in that place where i think oscar was maybe if he would have done a bit more of
27:55a normal race
27:56but it's always easy to to say that afterwards i think uh we have improved a lot this weekend
28:01unfortunately in the race we are still lacking a bit um laron mckee said earlier today that he thinks
28:06three of the five areas that they want to correct on this car have been achieved over the break the
28:12other two to go so how good could this car be if you can get all five areas done is
28:16this a race winning
28:16car and a championship contending car it will be better i don't know how much how much it will be
28:21better but for sure there is more pace than luck but i i guess if you ask that to any
28:25team they will
28:26all say the same and just finally can i get word on you that you're being called to stewards for
28:29the
28:29next on the pit lane what's your view on that okay we'll see all right thanks a lot
28:36it was a bit of a roller coaster for max verstappen on that opening lap let's take a look at
28:40it he
28:40started of course on the front row alongside kimmy antinelli got a much better start than antinelli but
28:47it was leclerc who got the best start of them all from the outside of that uh run to turn
28:52one he then
28:53switches to the inside verstappen i'll just go on board with him here he then has this moment of
28:58wheelspin makes makes it somehow around without contact with anyone else leclerc's up and running
29:05verstappen is being passed he's got all these cars flying past him the williams have gone past him
29:09linblad's gone past him and he's dropped down the pack there let's go on board with him on the rundown
29:16to
29:16turn 11. this is alongside linblad goes down the inside just chucks it down the inside and boat
29:22drivers run off track linblad rejoins in front the stap in holds it there holds it there almost gets
29:30into the wall on the left-hand side off the chicane goes over the curves but i think he's used
29:36a lot of
29:36his battery up in that battle on the rundown to to turn 11 which made him vulnerable to attack from
29:42the
29:42williams look how much linblad's just blown away from him down the straight first he gets carlos science
29:48flying past him max in a classic max verstappen move just throws it back down the inside and this
29:54is where max is so good with the rolls look he gets there and does it again he just manages
30:00to stop
30:01before he goes off the track and he's just thrown it up the inside science has gone off wide alex
30:08albon's
30:08taking advantage of this and comes sneaking up the inside let's go on to alex's on board because
30:14we've got a great view of this here so you can see this is where science breezes past verstappen who's
30:19struggling for for energy at that point the staffer then goes back down the inside albon's thinking to
30:24himself you know what i'm going to set up the move on the exit here and he does goes past
30:29his teammate
30:29gets alongside max tries to out drag him but the red bull just just sneaks back in front now max
30:37walk past me here just a few minutes ago to the stewards um we had a look at it a
30:42little while
30:42earlier but let's take another look at it now this is where he is under investigation for crossing
30:48the pit exit line we'll just go along there and you can see at this point he's on the line
30:55there's
30:55no doubt about it if you look even from this on-board angle you can see he's on the line
31:00and at this point if i looked at that you could see the line is you know the there's more
31:04tarmac than
31:05line there so it's hard from this angle to see all of it you can't see obviously the rear
31:10left tile the rear left side of the car so i'm not sure but we'll see what the steward say
31:15as i said
31:16he walked up there a few minutes ago back to you sammy he did well let's go back to to
31:23crofty's point
31:23there it's a bit annoying isn't it that you don't get a decision on something like that that is cut
31:28and
31:28dried in race when you when you could do it's not wheel to wheel it's not subjective it either happened
31:33or it
31:34didn't exactly we had this issue obviously also in in qualifying uh as well with it was it spring
31:40qualifying wasn't it spring qualifying exactly where you know drivers get promoted even though they
31:44seem to have data or information even from the team side that there has been an issue or an
31:49infringement and i don't understand why you know in these in these instances the fia hesitate to just
31:54review it and make a decision on time i can see the timing gaps there if he does get a
31:57penalty he is
31:58going to drop down a little bit at least two positions um so yeah unfortunate that they
32:03wouldn't have been able to build that buffer if that was the case agreed but maybe they don't have
32:06the footage of car footage of him crossing the line isn't that you'd argue that that's what that base
32:12back it is there for yeah yeah of course yeah okay on the subject of max himself though regardless of
32:21what happens uh in the stewards do you feel that uh i mean he seemed to be in control of
32:26that red bull
32:27i mean those in the midfield might argue that he wasn't because he was doing max s stuff and we
32:31heard
32:31what carlos science said over the team radio come on he feels he could do anything because he's battling
32:35through the midfield but you know this is this is a max that's beginning to believe in his car more
32:40than the first three races yeah i love the fight and he's aggressive we all know max is aggressive
32:44but it was lovely seeing him in the mix um for me it was more impressive catching that slide well
32:49not
32:50catching it doing a donut and carrying on he's i don't know if you noticed but he took his hands
32:54off
32:54the wheel when he started spinning and he put his hands on the opposite side of the wheel so when
32:59the
32:59car came back round he had to let go and find the right place in the steering wheel again to
33:04carry on
33:05unbelievable can you guess where that comes from uh from spinning round and round on the simulator
33:10yeah most likely but really impressive so his car control we all know is second to none
33:15his teammate though uh let's face it probably the the worst weekend of the season so far he just hadn't
33:21been on the pace and this was his crash as he went in destroyed the suspension that was his day
33:27over
33:28just clipboard and again and that was your lot look at that reaction uh i hope he'd calm down by
33:37the time
33:37you reach rachel hi isaac um just tell us from your point of view what was it what happened um
33:47yeah i was
33:49too eager and too excited about making those moves and um i just ruined myself it was easy to overtake
33:59and
34:00should have been more cautious there was no point trying to flirt with the limit in this corner so
34:05i'm really really what are you going to work on between now and montreal do you think it's been quite
34:10a tough weekend for you what do you want to work on yeah i mean um it's the first time
34:18i really struggle
34:19with my overall pace so yeah this is new and i really need to dig deep because uh yeah i
34:29don't want
34:29another weekend like this
34:33no because he'd probably be forgiven for thinking hey i'm not like the others i can go toe to toe
34:38with
34:38max because it out qualified him to one coming into to this weekend and then he has something like this
34:44and it's got to be like two steps forward one step forward a couple of steps back yeah i mean
34:49isaac is
34:49obviously a driver who wears his heart on his sleeve i think he feels his emotions a lot um but
34:55yeah it's
34:55frustrating i mean you know he's come into the season had three races where actually his pace was
34:59very surprising because we've come very used to seeing max's teammates being far off the pace and
35:03that hasn't been the case for him so i'm sure that for him as he says it's been it's the
35:07first time
35:07it's happened to him in a long time i think when you as a driver that happens to you that
35:10all of a sudden
35:11you can't put it together and the time's not coming towards you you start to ask yourself
35:14questions i mean they've got to get to the bottom of it it's you don't want to be that
35:17far off your team don't want the spiral don't want no exactly he's been there before i mean before the
35:22first race of the season last year he put it in the wall before the start of the race yeah
35:26um and the
35:26way he bounced back i mean he absolutely annihilated his team members this season so i wouldn't worry too
35:31much it's one race hopefully you can put this behind him and he'll come out quickly though when you've got
35:35max verstappen in the seat next to you isn't it uh well we shall see uh because he has shown
35:39mental strength
35:40uh beforehand we're going to take a short break when we come back we'll discuss what happened at
35:44uh alpine and again uh talking of interesting battles a horrible weekend for pierre gazi
35:50not so for franco colapinto in front of all of the argentinian fans that had turned up
36:03having started the season at around about seven to one uh the bookies favorite is now kimmy antonelli
36:10ahead of george russell for the first time three poles in three three victories in three the first man
36:18to do that and convert the three poles first three poles of their career so this is a confirmation
36:25of the race result kimmy antonelli winning it ahead of lando norris and mercedes getting the strategy
36:32right in the pit stop and in the end that was good enough with a fine out lap from the
36:37italian to
36:37secure victory oscar piastri finishing on the podium as well those upgrades appearing to work more on
36:43lando's car than oscars george russell will be happy with the points all but disappointed with
36:49the weekend overall losing out again to his teammate max verstappen with a good recovery drive after that
36:55spin on the first lap charleclerc dropping places because of a spin on the last lap lewis hamilton
37:01finishing behind him then franco colapinto again in the points and the first points for alex albon of the
37:08year as both of the williams inside that top 10. they'll be happy with that there were four retirees
37:15he's a cad jar who was bitterly disappointed pierre gaslu's car ended upside down liam lawson
37:20with that crash and nico hulkenberg uh audi finding something wrong with the car as he came in to change
37:26the nose cone so it was seven points after the sprint but kimmy antonelli's lead is now 20 over
37:32his teammate george russell 17th clear of charleclerc and lando norris uh splitting the ferraris now two
37:38points between himself and lewis hamilton oscar piastri six behind him max verstappen up from ninth
37:45to seventh ahead of ollie behrman and pierre gasly liam lawson retaining his place inside the top 10.
37:51uh on the second page there are now just five drivers uh yet to score a point in hulkenberg
37:58potas peres alonso and stroll but albon picking up his first of the year and alonso and stroll at least
38:05finishing the race in the constructors mercedes extending their lead over ferrari to 68.18
38:14to mclaren who had a better day at the office than the scooter rear and red bull now nine clear
38:19of alpine
38:21speaking of alpine uh lots of argentine supporting us as i mentioned before the break for franco colapinto
38:28and he didn't disappoint he's talking to ten
38:32ole ole ole ole franco franco
38:35you know that song right you learn it from argentina so this is this is what you need before
38:42every race a trip home half a million of your country country people all of us in a trip home
38:47hey if that
38:48that's what makes a successful weekend then i'm on for it but uh yeah that's uh you set you up
38:53do you feel it set you up franco for such a positive mindset and what's turned out to be
38:57a really positive weekend yeah it's been a really positive weekend and i am very happy
39:03with the effort that everyone has done with the effort of the team to to bring the new bars the
39:07new
39:08upgrades the new wings the new chassis everything has been really helpful and helping me um find my
39:14feel a bit better and find the performance i was lacking so very proud uh we will definitely need
39:19a few more trips to argentina soon and a few more road shows a bit more wine and and asados
39:24the extra
39:25weight was helpful so i can i can confirm you you were parsimonious with the uh with the grill with
39:32the meat grill and i didn't see you drink any wine but um it's been coming for a while though
39:36hasn't it
39:36i mean you've already in in the points so far earlier in the season it's been coming it's been coming
39:41and
39:41this this can be the start of something uh a points run yeah definitely i'm sure and i i'm sure
39:46it will
39:46be it's uh since a long time we're trying to find this performance and trying to understand why we're
39:52lacking that pace and this weekend felt very strong very maximized very efficient at every point and that
39:58we made the most out of it in each session so i i feel very happy and very proud of
40:03the team of myself
40:03because i do feel that it's been a very uh an excellent weekend and very very happy and once you
40:10had the early fight with max it was just all about sort of calming everything down and then
40:16straightforward from there keeping the williams behind you luis probably was out of reach ahead of
40:20you yeah luis was 98 seconds in front i think but i had that damage on the rear right uh
40:26at the start
40:27with luis and probably punished me a little bit the balance was not great but we're still going after
40:32we far in front of the midfield cars and yeah we showed that we had a lot of pace great
40:37stuff thank you
40:38very much franco back in the points franco colopinto
40:45yeah well i mean we talked about this at the the beginning of the program all the way back when
40:50where you were saying to get a full pre-season in his first with the team the change of engine
40:55all of a sudden he looks like a different driver it can be such a strange sport like that when
41:00someone
41:00struggled so much jensen for um yeah for an entire season didn't get off the mark and then all of
41:06a
41:06sudden different stories yeah yeah and he was you know flawless this weekend you know he wasn't just
41:10qualifying it was uh the whole way through the weekend he had the pace uh and he was best of
41:15the
41:15rest wasn't he in the race he did a great job he was the one that was hanging on to
41:19the back of luis
41:19for a while nobody else was so um yeah really really good job we don't know what pierre could have
41:24done
41:24because obviously he had the incident very early on but uh yeah really good weekend for him trust his car
41:29doesn't he looks like he does trust his car but um look it's i think colopinto just to add on
41:35what
41:35you were saying earlier yes he had a tough season last year but he didn't have the full season and
41:39i
41:39know i mentioned this in the top of the show but you know we've got to give him you know
41:42a little bit
41:43of credits in the sense that this was the first time he actually went through a whole winter phase
41:47with the team getting into grips taking some time to understand the car maybe getting a little bit more
41:52comfortable instead of just playing the sort of chasing game that he had to play all of last season
41:55maybe adding pressure on his own shoulders um as i was saying it looks like he's comparing himself a
42:00lot you okay there took a detour you didn't take the racing line i could tell take the racing line
42:06yeah i didn't leave you in your room though did i um no but he's obviously apparently been comparing
42:10himself a lot to pierre which is is normal but looking too much into the data and almost in a
42:15way
42:15that sort of cripples him a little bit and doesn't allow him to go out there freely and do his
42:20thing so
42:20looks like he's in a much better place now uh well a much better race result for williams both
42:24drivers inside the points it's still a very overweight car but they've maximized their
42:30performance this weekend hi carlos um that looked like you actually got to have a bit of a race out
42:37there today the team's got a double points finish as well how would you sum it up yeah uh had
42:42fun i
42:43think it's the first race that i've had a bit of fun fighting with all the cars before we were
42:47too far
42:48away from the midfield to get in the fight and today finally with a great start again i managed to
42:53get
42:53myself in into the mix and from then um fought my way through and managed to score another p9 um
43:00with very solid pace very yeah very clearly the fastest of the midfield cars obviously alpine is
43:08in that no man's land right now where they are not with the top cars not in the midfield but
43:13uh from
43:13my side uh yeah enjoyed that and um yeah another good sunday for me can you feel the progression
43:19coming now to this car i hope not i think we need the we need the same pressure because
43:25i think it's clear that uh this is still not where we had promised that we would be i think
43:31this is
43:31still where uh definitely a great step forward and it needs to be proved to the team and all of
43:38us that
43:38when we think do things right and when we work hard in the right direction things come along and we
43:43improve it's a team that is capable of doing a lot and a lot more than this but uh it
43:49just needs to
43:49serve as an example but we still know we are well behind our expectations and we need to we need
43:56to
43:57yeah dig deep work hard uh and yeah wait maybe until the next few races and last third of the
44:04year to
44:04to show our true potential all right thank you thank you alex double points finish for the team yes how
44:12pleased are you to walk away from here with that this weekend yeah we um we didn't pit this week
44:17so
44:17it was all good we had a a smooth race uh had a great start and i think we made
44:22six or seven positions
44:23up on the first couple laps uh held on maybe he wasn't the quickest car out there today but um
44:28still
44:29were able to salvage some some good points so uh great result for the team yeah you've got a great
44:33start
44:33and you said to us yesterday that when you came in it's basically testing what have the team learned
44:38from this weekend and is it going to help you make a big step or is this just going to
44:41be a really
44:41gradual thing this season i think that it's gradual um we have bigger steps coming than the one that
44:51came from japan to to here for example of course everyone knows by now we are running heavy we're still
44:59heavy um there's an aggressive program to to get that off the car so what i'm hoping is um well
45:05firstly we need to see if miami's a one-off it's always been a good track for us uh last
45:10year we were
45:10fifth here so um each baby steps let's see if canada is the same um and then i think by
45:16midpoint
45:17that's when we we should come into our stride a bit more all right great thank you thank you
45:24yeah because nico rosberg i'll get you i'll get you nico um yeah williams weekend
45:32sum it up for me i mean they got they needed this both cars in the points yeah really big
45:36weekend for
45:36them it's been a tricky start to the season as you said uh a little bit overweight um but no
45:42both
45:42drivers did a great job it's as good as they could have hoped for i guess looks like the boot
45:46camp
45:46that alex alban suggested it was called the boot camp that they put the car on to lose all that
45:50weight not all of it some of it um but you can hear that carlos is sort of really still
45:56pushing
45:56a little bit you know putting pressure this is not enough even though they're happy with the progress
46:01they expect more and they want more and this is not where they want to be so let's see what's
46:05to
46:05come maybe there's more that we don't know about but if their ambitions are that high then maybe
46:09there's something exciting coming from them in the future well montreal is to come uh and for that
46:13let's just start to finish where we started with regards to to mercedes uh and for the rest we'll
46:19take it under advisement at the moment we know it's going to be one of those seas a little bit
46:23like the
46:23yo-yo racing where maybe at the top we get um teams yo-yoing because of the developments and some
46:28being in sync and some not some bringing updates to other places yeah well and sometimes the the updates
46:34don't work as well so i think having them on the car now and proving them out has been a
46:38really
46:38important thing for ferrari and mclaren obviously a very different circuit in canada so uh yeah i
46:43look forward to the fight but this weekend was was a really good one it felt like any of the
46:47top six
46:48could have won but it feels doesn't it that uh kimmy ansinelli could be a threat here and as i
46:52was
46:53saying favorite now that's that's quite interesting with the bookies they don't usually make mistakes
46:57anyway a lot of excitement around him a lot of excitement around him three wins uh on the spin ted's
47:03notebook is next thank you to uh jensen thank you to naomi thank you you for watching at home we've
47:09had
47:09another fine weekend as formula one has returned here in miami kimmy antonelli the star of the show again
47:17is
