00:08Hardcore Harman!
00:10Now that the glass doors off of the living room have arrived, I'm really excited.
00:18The frame is in the wrong way around.
00:20I love doing things twice.
00:22I just let one thing to be finished.
00:25Ooh!
00:26New windows in.
00:28You know, they're in.
00:31I think it actually completely transforms that space.
00:39Living in the basement, it's been really hard.
00:42Getting it finally finished and looking amazing is going to be superb.
00:48It's really important that Jas and I try and grab little windows of time together when we can.
00:54My dad would probably flip his lid if he saw this.
00:58He's very much a perfectionist.
01:02Don't turn too early!
01:04Oh, it's looking amazing isn't it?
01:11Good.
01:11Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that something like this would be a reality.
01:16what else did we do?
01:16This is really important as we see it in!
01:18Okay.
01:30Down on the Costa del Sol.
01:32The dust!
01:34Jasmine and John's housewarming party is looming.
01:37Now, just a matter of weeks away, there's still loads to do.
01:46Lots going on all over the house, inside and outside.
01:56It feels like it's kind of exploded.
01:59All of the work is happening at once.
02:03Oops.
02:05Trying to break the new work time.
02:06With Dominic and his team deep into renovation upstairs,
02:10the family have been living in the basement,
02:12which has given Jasmine the impetus to prioritise finishing this space.
02:18We're so close to being finished.
02:21So close.
02:24I'm sure we could finish everything that needs to be done down here in no time
02:29if it was on the top of the priorities.
02:33But obviously there are so many other things going on.
02:36A lot of the project managing has fallen to me in the end
02:41because Dominic is just so busy with everything else and with the build
02:46and liaising with all the different trades.
02:50And I do feel like I'm in above my head because I don't know what I'm doing.
02:58I don't know what comes first and what I need to do before I can do that or why.
03:01And so, yeah, that's probably not helping things move forward quickly.
03:11John is busy filming a well-loved British property series and the school holidays have started.
03:16Keen to avoid the kids spending it on a building site, Jasmine has found a local solution.
03:23I found a lovely summer camp for them.
03:27It's about five minutes away and they can go there.
03:30It's all about nature.
03:32They can spend time with other kids and it's from 10 till 5, Monday to Friday.
03:36So that gives me a good chunk of time during the day when I can be getting on with all
03:41of this stuff
03:41and they don't have to be living on a building site all day.
03:46I feel like I'm in the epicentre of this most ridiculous chaos that's going on
03:54and it's all pressure from all sides.
03:59And I feel like at any moment it's all going to cave in.
04:11Despite all the stress and strains, Jasmine is getting stuck in.
04:15Eager to maintain momentum, starting with John's media wall.
04:20So this is the lime wash.
04:22I must say I really like the way it looks.
04:25That kind of rustic feel.
04:27The only thing is I'm not so sure about the texture of it.
04:33You know, it feels quite rough.
04:35I'm quite a tactile person.
04:36I like things that feel nice to the touch.
04:39I hope I've done it right.
04:41Maybe I need to give it a little sand to make it smoother, but that might just ruin it.
04:46If I go over it too many times, then you lose the rustic lime wash effect.
04:52So believe me, I'm not an expert.
04:55My dad would probably flip his lid if he saw this, you know, painting
04:59because he's very much a perfectionist and he would not like this.
05:05You can see all the brush strokes and you can see a little bit of the white paint underneath coming
05:09through.
05:11But, you know, that is how it's supposed to look.
05:14I think it looks good.
05:16Now I look at it from a distance, it looks better.
05:20But the idea of this bit was that it would look kind of industrial, a bit like, you know, bare
05:27concrete.
05:28And I think that it definitely achieves that effect.
05:33So hopefully John will like it as well.
05:38Elsewhere in the basement...
05:40Oh, sorry, love.
05:42We're all looking for something.
05:44I know.
05:44The large stone effect wall tiles are already up in the bathroom.
05:48So the floor tiles are next for brick and tile laying specialist Matthew.
05:54Is that a two mil?
05:55That's a two mil.
05:56Yeah, it's fine.
05:57Yeah?
05:58I mean, I think so.
05:59Are you happy with that?
06:00Yeah, yeah.
06:00I think it's fine.
06:02Yeah, that's good.
06:03I just want to see how it works at this show.
06:05Yeah, exactly.
06:06So you, yeah.
06:06I'd rather have a crappy cut on this.
06:08Yeah, good idea.
06:09I was hoping that you were going to do that.
06:12Obviously they'll be staggered differently.
06:14Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:14I just want to see which way.
06:17Which way is now I understand.
06:20Once the tiling is done, the suite will be installed and then Jasmine can add her finishing touches.
06:26That's the mirror.
06:27Okay, check the mirror.
06:28Yeah.
06:29It's one of those heated ones.
06:33Ah, right, so it doesn't seem like that.
06:34That's better, isn't it?
06:35Yeah.
06:36It's 500, roughly.
06:39I mean, you're saying...
06:40Your hand basin about there.
06:49Yeah, you're talking there, don't you?
06:52A little bit, I'd put it a touch higher because not that high though.
06:55Just half split the difference.
06:58Somewhere about there.
06:59Okay.
07:08Back over in the main basement room, Quinn and Dominic are getting ready to work on one of John's more
07:14techie interior design ideas.
07:16When we went to visit this inspirational villa, they had acoustic panelling in their basement and in the gym area
07:25as well.
07:26And it looked great.
07:28John has ordered nine panels.
07:30That's complete with the nine LED lighting strips.
07:34Cost a grand total of £1,600.
07:38This panelling, we've got to cut it exactly.
07:42And then the LED slides in it.
07:45The problem is, John's not here at the moment, is he?
07:48So, his description of what he wants, so we're not quite sure at the moment, but we're doing what we
07:53can.
07:54What are you going to do?
07:55One of the squares?
07:56Yeah.
07:57The squares are very...
07:57Watch.
07:58Look at that, Quinn.
07:59What's that?
08:00The second you cut through it, they're all on the move.
08:02Yeah, it's got a staple on the line.
08:03Yeah.
08:03I knew that was going to happen.
08:05Look.
08:06Oh, that's fine.
08:06So, that might work, as in, just cut down there.
08:11Have you got a shot, Stanley?
08:12Yeah, I do, actually.
08:13Got it?
08:14Get a hold of it.
08:19Hiya, ma'am.
08:22Cutting the panels to shape and size is a delicate process.
08:26And with no extra panels for mistakes or breakages, Dominic and Quinn can't afford any mishaps.
08:35Great.
08:39It's like it was made to measure.
08:41Exactly.
08:43Beautiful.
08:44Nice.
08:46Yeah, we'll have a chat with John, because they don't go to the ground.
08:50They've got to be staggered.
08:52They come to the top, but they don't go to the ground.
08:55What?
08:55The LEDs.
08:56I think that's what...
08:57The LED strips, John said he wants them to be more random and sporadic.
09:00Oh, I'm with you, the LEDs, I thought you meant that, because I know they're going to be feathered off
09:04at the top.
09:05Yeah, but they don't hit the ground there, so...
09:08Yeah, as long as they're staggered and they look random, I think I'll be fine.
09:12I think sometimes the best way is just not overthinking it and just kind of going wherever it goes, isn't
09:16it?
09:17But we are on the case of it.
09:19Let's do it, then.
09:20Let's do that.
09:22They've got to come downwards.
09:24John's plan for staggered LED lighting in the panels involves cutting the two-and-a-half-metre strips of LED
09:31lights, but there is only just enough.
09:37Well, you don't know if it works yet.
09:39I don't know if it works or not, no.
09:41Each one can only be cut once and they can't be soldered back together, so there is no margin for
09:47error.
09:51There you go.
09:52Oh, yeah.
09:53There you go.
09:54It's brilliant, isn't it? Turn it off for a sec.
09:57These wires are very small.
10:00Really?
10:01They do.
10:02Yeah, amazing.
10:04It's fantastic.
10:05Yeah, it's very good, isn't it?
10:08Just disappears when it goes off.
10:10Yeah, look.
10:10Lovely.
10:11That's really good.
10:12With my eyesight, I can't even see it when it's off.
10:18Although progress is being made, between ferrying the kids around, doing her own work, and managing this complicated renovation to
10:27a deadline, for Jasmine, the strain is starting to take its toll.
10:33It's too much for one person to cope with.
10:38You know, I used to think, I used to think that I was indestructible, and I used to think I
10:47can cope with anything that's thrown at me.
11:16Down in Estepona,
11:20Tubos, tubos, tubos, or tubas?
11:23Tubos, I think.
11:26Jasmine is managing the build all on her own.
11:30So we've still got phase two going on of the renovation, and we're deeply into phase three as well.
11:39No hay luces dentro de las aracenas en este lado.
11:43Solo aquÃ, aquÃ.
11:44SÃ, porque son de cristal.
11:47Vale, perfecto.
11:48And nothing's finished.
11:51I'm trying to chase different people, different products, buying things, finding out things are wrong.
11:57It is a real juggle.
12:00Down in the basement, the doorway between the main room and the gym is being plastered.
12:07Meanwhile, upstairs, a thin layer of screed, a mixture of fine sand and cement, is spread across the kitchen floor.
12:15It will create a level surface to lay the marble tiles that have been picked to match with those already
12:21in the living room.
12:21Once dry, Matthew can lay the new marble floor.
12:29They're all different thicknesses, sometimes different widths, different lengths.
12:38You've got to be...
12:39Because it's such a natural material, they're very random.
12:43This marble has been specially selected to easily blend with the flooring that's already in the living room.
12:50Look, that's how random they are, the tiles.
12:57These are okay laying, I mean, you can get away with a bit with these, because after, once this is
13:05all done, and you fill the joints in with a really high-newton cement slurry,
13:11and then once it's all grinded out, it'll look flat anyway.
13:16So if you're a little bit up, a little bit down, once it's all, yeah, it'll look all natural and
13:23naturally level-like.
13:26Whilst lead tile and Matt carries on laying the kitchen floor, back down in the basement,
13:33Dominic and Quinn are carrying on with the installation of the acoustic panelling with its disappearing LED strips.
13:40This is exciting.
13:42I suppose the only one thing is that those two finish at the same height.
13:46If we wanted to be perfectly random, we could...
13:50...squidge it somewhere slightly different.
13:52Maybe that one can go to sort of there, if that's possible.
13:56Is that possible? Or is that...
13:57You've got... If you've got a chance, you can do it now, Quinn.
14:00Because once the glue gets...
14:03Quinn, pull it by the... Yeah, by the cable, not by the...
14:11That's so gentle.
14:14That's got a bit of depth on it now.
14:16Yeah, that looks a bit better.
14:18Let me stand back and look at it.
14:21Looks good.
14:22Let me take a quick little picture for John.
14:24Yeah, to do it again, Dad.
14:25Sorry, Dominic.
14:26Just one quick picture for John.
14:28He's the only one that counts.
14:29Exactly.
14:31We've already installed the two, as you can see on the wall there.
14:35And the LEDs are working.
14:36But now we've got the difficult bit.
14:39We've got to put them on the ceiling.
14:41So there's two more hole panels to go up.
14:44And then the difficult two that need cutting and...
14:48...making into a star sort of fingered shape at the end.
14:53So, yeah, time-consuming.
14:57It's not super difficult, but at over 200 euros a panel,
15:02you've got to be very careful what you're doing.
15:07While John's panelling project progresses,
15:10it's time for Jasmine to put her own mark on the basement level
15:13by kitting out the gym.
15:15So she's heading along the coast to a fitness equipment warehouse
15:19to scope out the options.
15:23Keeping fit has always been something that's part of my life
15:25and that's really important.
15:27And I spent 10 years working in health and fitness
15:30as an instructor, aerobics teacher, personal trainer,
15:36before I worked in television.
15:38So having a home gym is something I've never had the luxury
15:41of being able to do before
15:43because I've never had that sort of space available.
15:46I'm looking for some machines and pieces
15:52for a small gym in my home.
15:56Very good.
15:57We have a motto that is try before you buy.
16:01I'm thinking, I don't know, two or three cardio machines
16:05that we can use and some weights,
16:09maybe a few other accessories like bands or a ball
16:13or something like that.
16:14Also, these are the dumbbells, the hexagonal dumbbells,
16:17which are the ones we sell most.
16:19Take care of it, it's heavy.
16:22It's too much for me.
16:25I really want a punch bag as well.
16:27I used to love boxing,
16:29so that's one thing I'd quite like to do again.
16:32It's good for taking out all my anger.
16:34My husband, in five months,
16:39broke his leg.
16:41He was playing padel.
16:45So, would we recommend him the elliptic?
16:50Nice.
16:52Nice and smooth.
16:54You have a ventilator too.
16:56Ah, a ventilator.
16:56In the machines it's very important.
16:59Can you see?
17:00It's better.
17:02It's better.
17:28I'm actually quite happy here.
17:29I've been staying here for a while.
17:31At this level, it's the, I think, it's lo más fácil.
17:34We can put more resistance.
17:36No, no, está bien.
17:38Está bien asÃ.
17:40Los hombros, los brazos, la espalda.
17:44Tienes que tener la espalda activa.
17:47SÃ.
17:48Al final, creo que la bicicleta, aire.
17:51De aire, air bike.
17:54Me gusta.
17:55Y el remo.
17:57El remo.
17:57The rowing machine.
17:58Muy bien.
17:58Y una elÃptica.
17:59Y una elÃptica.
18:00Perfecto.
18:01Una elÃptica y las pesas.
18:03Vale.
18:03Y la, eléptica.
18:05gym is like beyond luxury i came from a low-income family you know it's so aspirational
18:14and it's always kind of been in the back of my mind that one day maybe but i never really
18:19thought it would become a reality so i think yeah it's an absolute luxury and i'm very very lucky to
18:24have it with the equipment sourced jasmine can get out of her gym gear to check on the progress of
18:32another luxury item the marble flooring oh wow amazing how quickly this floor goes down
18:46it's going to match quite nicely with the original marble once it's all polished up i just hope that
18:52we can get it finished well we have to get it finished because otherwise the kitchen won't
18:56be able to be fitted ah it's nice to see the progress
19:06oh the floor is clean the dust oh the plaster
19:14finally the plaster's done there living in the basement is fine but
19:22if only it had been completed before we moved down there it would be so much easier and so much
19:27more relaxing it's fine we've got everything we need but basically it feels a bit like camping
19:35this temporary living means that meal times are often improvised
19:40how many pickles do you need for all of us 10. yeah yeah 10 only 10. 20. get as many
19:49as you need
19:49i'll give you avocado you do the pickles we have been coping okay with making meals down in the
19:58basement we have wraps quite often this is my favorite non-cooking dinner making a wrap is quite nice
20:10because the kids can just choose their own toppings and they can put it in themselves and everyone can get
20:15involved so it's just a really easy meal can you wrap mine i'll show you how to do it ready
20:23top and bottom
20:26so it's good it's fine you know i won't be doing any sort of cordon bleu or fancy cooking down
20:36there in
20:36the basement so what do you two think of this little arrangement living down here it's a bit boring
20:44it's basically the same as being upstairs but one big room and more working
20:53how about you joy it's actually really annoying the fact that we have a no working bathrooms down here
21:00yeah and the no oven so we can't have like any nice cooked dinners or anything
21:07i think i think nowhere to charge our computers still oh glad to see you two got your priorities right
21:19but at least we've got somewhere to be i say that but we haven't really because it's still full of
21:25dust
21:25and full of building work and builders there all the time and it's still not finished
21:32but we can make we we're making do it's fine
21:48on the costa del sol jasmine and the build team are wrapping up the renovation of the basement
21:58in the old china
22:01john's media wall is in the final throws it's been lime washed by jasmine and the
22:06acoustic panelling has started going into the alcoves
22:09the next step is to install a key element the television
22:14are you winning there oh yeah
22:18where's the wall so is the plan to just do the panelling
22:22Leave it leave a blank square in in the middle behind the TV. Yeah
22:27That's good and the same distance between each side. Oh, you can just see it can move sideways
22:33So it can move last oh, yeah, I see I see I see all right, that's a good bracket isn't
22:38it
22:40With the TV in place time to finish off the acoustic paneling. It's been a tricky task for Dominic and
22:46Quinn
22:48There it is I'm gonna come this in Quinn
22:53The last couple of lengths are being glued and screwed I ain't even made my mind up where it's going
22:58yet
23:05This is white when I come to work
23:10Beautiful
23:12Plug that in and check it in case you don't work out the box
23:18Oh
23:21Before the final LED strips are slotted into place
23:32I
23:34Really like the look of them. I can't say I would have picked them out to have but now I
23:39see them up
23:40They do look very effective
23:43John made a good choice
23:51The bathroom gym and main basement room are getting super close to completion
23:57We'll make it that screen put it in
23:59Quick cutting around the top of here fit that this ball from is earth time that done
24:06And a rather large delivery arriving out front is about to have a big impact on one of those spaces
24:12Perfecto
24:12Perfecto
24:13Super
24:13Perfecto
24:14Perfecto
24:15Oh, it's huge
24:19That is
24:20That is
24:21I think it's gonna touch the floor
24:23I think it's gonna touch the floor
24:27No, it's gonna be too tall
24:34Is it going to fit?
24:37No!
24:39It's too big!
24:41That's not good, it's touching the floor!
24:44Oh dear.
24:46Is there more smaller?
24:47Yes.
24:47Yes, I'll have to swap pitch.
24:51Yes, because it's too big!
24:57Oh, shame!
24:59As the bulky gym kit makes its way into the basement through the double doors at the back,
25:05rubber flooring is laid over the original terracotta floor tiles in preparation.
25:11Very, very exciting delivery today.
25:15We've had all the gym equipment arrive, which is just...
25:21It's kind of blowing my mind that we're getting a punch bag as well,
25:25which I think will be one of the things I use the most when I get annoyed or frustrated.
25:31Y la próxima vez que nos vemos, voy...
25:36Vas a estar más fuerte.
25:37Más fuertes.
25:38Bueno, tú ya estás fuerte, eh.
25:40No, no.
25:43Pero después.
25:44Bueno.
25:45Muchas gracias.
25:47Looking at that gym, I'm thinking,
25:48now I've got no excuse, I really do have to use it.
25:59The next morning, John is back and Jasmine can't wait to show him the progress.
26:06Initially, it didn't really feel like a space that you'd ever want to go into.
26:13What do you think, Albs?
26:17Um...
26:17Albie, I know what you're thinking.
26:18This screams Spanish dream lifestyle.
26:22Yeah, definitely.
26:23For one, it was open to the elements.
26:26Two, it was dirty, it was cluttered, it was very just uninviting.
26:33This isn't even finished, I mean, the garage door is basically a shower curtain.
26:40This keeps the leaves at bay.
26:43I think when we first saw it, I looked at it and I thought,
26:46this is pretty grim, but I can see its potential.
26:52Oh, it's looking amazing, isn't it?
26:54No, it's good.
27:02I'm in genuinely a completely different room.
27:09Now, it's just an amazing space.
27:13It's somewhere that you would want to hang out and be there,
27:16and it's bright, it feels modern.
27:19It's...it's just a really lovely addition to the house.
27:24Well done.
27:25Oh, don't cry.
27:27I'd say, like...
27:29I'd say, like...
27:32Why are you crying?
27:33Because now you're going to have to get fit.
27:36Damn it!
27:37I had very little involvement with the sort of vision and the formation of the gym.
27:41So when I saw it with Jazz for the first time, it was a real...
27:45I think for Jazz and for me, it was a real pinch me moment of,
27:48you know, I own a house that now has a fully functioning gym.
27:52And, you know, it's not something we ever thought we'd achieve.
27:56Whether I use it or not may remain to be seen.
28:00It feels like a massive extravagance to have it, but it's just amazing.
28:11Coming from a very working class family in a really underprivileged area of London,
28:18you know, never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that something like this would be a reality in...
28:26I meant to say that, it'd make you cry.
28:33Well, all the houses I've looked at over the years, and they're so aspirational,
28:38imagine having something like that and then actually having something like that,
28:42it's kind of overwhelming.
28:45Yeah, I...
28:45We just have to make sure we use it.
28:48Go on then.
28:49Yeah?
28:50No time like the present.
28:50Come on then.
28:58I might wet myself, help.
29:01Ready?
29:03Breathe out.
29:05Breathe in as you come down.
29:07That's weird, just to there.
29:08Now up.
29:14Go.
29:17Breathe out on the exertion.
29:18Just keep moving.
29:22I haven't got enough space here to keep...
29:23I have to move the bench out of the way.
29:25Look at your left foot.
29:26Oh!
29:32I don't have my own strength.
29:33Oh.
29:34Sorry.
29:35With my left foot.
29:36Lucky we've had two children.
29:42While a lot of the focus has been on the gym and main entertainment space,
29:46work has been ticking along in the basement bathroom that's now also complete.
29:52The bathroom in the garage when we first came was not particularly nice.
29:58Oh, careful Albie, mind you don't trip.
30:00A very luxurious toilet.
30:04What did you think of the window?
30:06There is none.
30:07There is.
30:08There's just a hole in the wall.
30:10There was no door on it, for one thing.
30:12There was a toilet and there was a sink and a broken tap.
30:17You know, the plumbing was there.
30:18That's about the only thing that made it an actual bathroom.
30:23This has come together really well in the end, hasn't it?
30:34Mind-blowing to think what this was and what it is now.
30:40I mean, and it was quite good use of the leftover tiles as well.
30:44A really good use.
30:45From the upstairs bathroom and from the basement floor.
30:51Look at her making herself at home, the cat.
30:54Literally asleep on the towels.
30:55She's found her new favourite place in the house.
30:59You know, the whole process of this renovation has been quite slow going and it's been quite hard.
31:06You know, getting the progress that we want.
31:09So having an area that is now done, it's finished, we can tick it off the list.
31:15It feels really good.
31:18To celebrate the finished room, Jasmine has organised a special day trip to Malaga.
31:24It's a chance for the couple to reconnect after the stresses and strains of being apart.
31:30It's really important that Jas and I try and grab little windows of time together when we can.
31:35Because when I'm back from work, there's so much going on with the house and there's so much going on
31:40with the kids.
31:41It's important that we try and spend some time together.
31:46Every time we come to Malaga, we pass by the fortress and we've actually never been inside.
31:53So we're having a guided tour today, looking around with a lovely chap called Paco.
31:58Hola.
31:59Hola. Hello. How are you?
32:01Welcome to Malaga.
32:03He's going to tell us about the history and show us all the best spots.
32:13Towering above Malaga's old town, the Alcazaba fortress is a Moorish marvel dating back to the 11th century.
32:21Built in a period of turmoil towards the end of the powerful ruling by the Caliphate of Cordoba,
32:27a medieval Islamic state who ruled over much of Spain, the Alcazaba has an interesting story to tell.
32:35They needed to build the fortress quite quickly when the Caliphate of Cordoba was broken.
32:40So they used it without money.
32:42So they used different poor material that rebelled sea stones and bricks.
32:48Quickly and cheaply.
32:49And cheaply.
32:49Exactly.
32:50That's exactly what we're looking for, isn't it, for our house?
32:52Have you got their number?
32:53Exactly.
32:55The Moors who came to Spain from North Africa ruled for some 800 years between the 8th and 15th century,
33:02with Malaga being the main arrival point for soldiers and an important military stronghold.
33:07All these kind of towers have small corners because usually one attack was on a horse.
33:14So with all these doors, the horse comes a bit slowly.
33:21Yes.
33:21And you have soldiers in all the walls with different arms defending the fortresses.
33:27It was easy.
33:28So it's not like if you were attacking on horseback, you haven't got a nice straight run to gallop through.
33:35It was very difficult.
33:37The corner was to slow you down so everyone could then shot at you.
33:41Yeah.
33:41I mean, it's clever really, isn't it?
33:43We look at it as just really unusual, beautiful, interesting architecture, but it all has a purpose behind it.
33:51The Alcazaba wasn't just a stronghold, it was a whole world of its own.
33:56With elegant courtyards, tranquil gardens, living quarters and even baths,
34:02the Alcazaba was as much a palace as it was a fortress, a little fortified town perched above the sea.
34:10And now you can see this garden with a typical fountain because we have a lot of water.
34:15The water is one element very important during the Muslim period.
34:19Yeah.
34:19We need to use the water to purify before pray inside the mosque, to have life to the plants, the
34:26trees, the gardens.
34:27You see, here we can see, for example, this jasmine is not the local jasmine.
34:32It's not the local one?
34:33No.
34:33The local jasmine is coming from Arabia, from the desert.
34:38But this is a Chinese jasmine.
34:40Chinese jasmine.
34:41It's different because the flowers are smaller, smell different and they produce a lot.
34:48And I need to tell you one secret.
34:51The jasmine is a nice repellent from the mosquitoes.
34:54I had no idea that jasmine was a mosquito repellent, a natural mosquito repellent.
35:03I'm going to be planting jasmine everywhere.
35:13The views.
35:14Wow.
35:16That is spectacular.
35:18Isn't it?
35:19You can see all the panorama that they had.
35:22The mountains here.
35:23That is an amazing view.
35:24Yeah, it's very nice.
35:25Thank you so much.
35:27What a lovely, amazing visit.
35:30Thank you for your insight.
35:31You're welcome.
35:34The views were spectacular.
35:38I mean, you cannot beat that view of Malaga City.
35:42The gardens were so stunning, surrounded by jasmine and all the lovely indigenous plants.
35:49And I really like the arches because actually for some reason under there you kind of feel the place has
35:57got a soul.
36:00This really helps you to explore the history.
36:03And I think that will definitely be back.
36:18The belated end of phase two is in sight.
36:21What was a garage space and bathroom has been upgraded into a home gym, a fully renovated bathroom, and is
36:30soon to be a multi-use entertainment zone.
36:34Dominic and his team are preparing the basement for the delivery of the centre point of the room.
36:41That is a beast.
36:42Can I?
36:43It stays on, yeah.
36:44And delivering the goods is Jasmine and John's trusted friend, Carlos.
36:50Hoy he venido a traerle la máquina de hockey a jasmine y John, que fuimos hasta AlmerÃa por ella.
36:58Muy bien.
36:58Let's take the arm.
37:00We take the arm and take the arm and take it a little off to her.
37:04We gave a six hundred kilometres.
37:09We are here, thrilled to bring the machine from her.
37:13So enjoy her.
37:15Not much.
37:15Do not climb on much.
37:16Do not climb on much so that she can move around.
37:17That is it.
37:19Go on, mate.
37:22I
37:22What's that with the air hockey table weighing over 200 kilograms?
37:27It's taking a lot of manpower to shift it
37:37Don't turn too early as well as managing the weight the height could be an issue
37:50Oh
38:06With the table in place there's only one thing left to do
38:10Dominic, how's it going?
38:12How's it going?
38:13We've tried the machine, we've done a duel in England against Spain
38:19It works
38:30Yeah
38:31Here we go
38:41Goal!
38:42Own goal
38:43Y le gano a Dominic 2-0
38:50Own goal actually, didn't lose, I scored it myself
39:01All that remains is for Jasmine to add the finishing touches to the room
39:07The basement is such an amazing space
39:14It had so much untapped potential and now I just think
39:21I can't think of a way we could improve it, I think it's fantastic
39:27Having been living in the basement, we've kind of seen it slowly coming to fruition
39:32And so those last finishing touches, it's exciting
39:37For me, the basement will eventually be the best room in the house
39:47Looks so different now doesn't it?
39:49I mean, so different
39:57Oh my gosh
40:03Again, you sort of think about what this room was when we first looked around the house
40:09Yeah
40:11I mean, it's definitely become way more than we had planned, right?
40:16Oh
40:17Well, it's almost like you don't need the rest of the house now
40:20Well, the kids would happily live down here
40:26We always set out with the goal for the basement to be a really fun space
40:32Somewhere the kids could hang out with friends or we could have little parties
40:36And I think, I think Jazz has nailed it
40:38I think it's going to be a really fun space
40:40I was always a bit worried how you would create like a cosy feeling in such a huge open space
40:48But I feel like with the different zones, I feel like it's good
40:52That we've achieved it
40:54We just need the disco zone finishing and then everything's done
40:58I actually was wondering whether you could literally put like a disco floor
41:02And like the coloured tiles
41:04Light up floor
41:05You could do your John Travolta moves
41:07That'd be good
41:11The acoustic panelling was John's baby
41:15You know, I'd never really seen it before
41:18And I think ultimately
41:21It looks really good
41:23It ties in the space
41:26I really love the acoustic panelling
41:27I think it was a bit of a faff and it has cost us more than I had envisaged
41:32But it does, it does help a little bit with the acoustics
41:35But what it really helps with is having some low profile lighting
41:39In that end of the room, which is the dark end of the room
41:43I haven't been able to figure out how to turn them on and off yet
41:47Please can you teach me?
41:51Yeah
41:53Big comfortable sofa, plenty of room for loads and loads of people
41:57If you've got loads of friends over
41:58I can just see that becoming a go-to place for us
42:04Especially the kids
42:07What's nice is how, you know, even though all the different zones have got their own thing
42:11The panelling also connects the kitchen area
42:16I think that's quite a nice touch
42:18That was a good idea
42:19The bar there, it's a bar, not a kitchen
42:21Bar, bar, yeah
42:22Well only because we've been using it as a kitchen while we've been living down here
42:27It's the perfect little spot for preparing drinks and snacks
42:31It's a really fun space
42:33And I know John always likes to have a countertop
42:37Between himself and the people, the guests
42:41So that he can do his thing and make them drinks and make them tapas
42:45I think the kitchen bar and the basement as a whole
42:48Was always designed to kind of encourage this kind of al fresco living
42:52So now we've got this kind of kitchen bar that can service barbecues
42:57And help us live a bit more of an outdoor lifestyle
42:59Which is one of the reasons we came here
43:01Now we've just got to try and keep it tidy like this
43:04I thought you were going to say
43:06Now we've just got to go and find some friends
43:09Well we've got lots of visitors coming soon haven't we
43:14So hopefully everything will be nice and ready for our visitors
43:19Now, even if upstairs isn't finished
43:26I think the basement is the big wow factor for the whole house
43:34It was always John's kind of thing
43:37And he wanted people to walk downstairs and go
43:42Oh my gosh!
43:43We did not know that this was all under here
43:47That's the sort of impact I think
43:48We wanted it to have
43:50And I'm pretty sure it's going to live up to our expectations
43:55It's worked out really well
43:56It's good
43:57Cheers
43:58Cheers
44:00What we've achieved so far
44:02It's looking beautiful
44:04And I feel really proud actually
44:07That we've made it this far
44:09And I can start to see an end in sight
44:23We've only got a week until the kitchen is arriving
44:28So all of this needs to be done
44:30Walls and ceilings are really important actually
44:33Underrated sometimes
44:35Oh they're bringing it out
44:39I'm getting nervous now
44:41Just don't worry about it
44:42I think it's a crazy idea
44:45Where's the end?
44:47Who's idea was about a hundred feet of lights?
44:49This is a disaster
44:51With some guests coming in a few weeks
44:53It's going to be really nice to have the Sun Terrace finished
44:55Ha!
44:58Whee!
44:59Yeah!
