00:00The Malaysian Artists Association has defended the staging of the Rain Rave Water Music Festival
00:05at Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur, saying it was designed to attract visitors,
00:10particularly those from overseas. He said that without an admission charge,
00:14there was insufficient commercial return to attract a private organizer at the scale required
00:19for such an event. Karyawan was responding to PAS Secretary-General Takiyunin Hassan,
00:24who said it would have been more appropriate for the private sector to organize the event
00:28and hold it behind closed doors, and that the event was not inclusive. Karyawan President
00:33Freddy Fernandez said moving the event indoors would have reduced its visibility, reach,
00:38and impact on the international visitors. He said Bukit Bintang is an internationally
00:43recognized tourist corridor and that outdoor water festivals in Thailand and Taiwan have
00:47proven to draw tourists. Fernandez said Malaysia's multicultural, multiracial, and multilingual
00:53character forms the foundation of the Malaysia Truly Asia branding, and that the Rain Rave Water
00:59Music Festival reflected its diversity rather than detracting from it. Danes Rajareza, FMT.
