00:00Here it was. Over 2 million of these watches were sold in the first 5 years alone. But Casio knew
00:04that they had created something special, and they did un-want to dilute the brand by selling it to
00:09everyone. So they created an entirely new brand called G-Shock, which was exclusively for watches
00:14that met their durability standards. This decision proved to be extremely successful. Although Casio
00:20still sells many different types of watches today, the original G-Shock is still their best-selling
00:24model. And now let's move on to the Casio business story. What made Casio decide to start a
00:29business in the first place, and how did they become so big? First of all, the name Casio
00:34is actually an abbreviation of a Japanese phrase that translates to compounding and innovation.
00:39But originally, the company was called Tokyo Susheng Kojo, which translates to Tokyo Electronics
00:44Industry. This is because their first products were electronic organs, which were produced using
00:49metal and plastic. But soon they realized that the materials weren't strong enough. They needed to
00:54develop a new material that was both lightweight and durable. After years of research, they invented
00:59a new resin that fulfilled these requirements and more importantly, it was cheap to produce.
01:03They filed a patent for this new material in 1957 and named it Casio.
