00:00Welcome to my channel. Today we're going to talk about the Casio story.
00:03There are very few brands that have managed to stay popular for over 80 years.
00:07However, Casio is one of them. They were founded in 1946 in Tokyo, Japan by today.
00:13The company started out small, producing only electronic organs, and their first product was
00:17called the Rhythm Ace, but it was a nut until the invention of the world's first compact pocket
00:22calculator that they gained prominence. This happened in 1971, and it was called the Casio
00:27001. It utilized lead technology which allowed it to be much smaller than its competitors.
00:33Their success continued with the introduction of the first all-digital watch, called the
00:36Casiotron, in 1974. This changed the watch industry forever. Previously, watches had to be mechanically
00:43wound, but not anymore. Soon every brand from Rolex to Swatch was releasing digital watches.
00:48But why are we talking about all this old history? Well, because when Casio released their first G
00:52shock watch in 1983, they already had decades of experience in making electronics. And this
00:57would be a huge benefit, when it came to competing against established watch brands like Rolex,
01:02who had just released their first, Quartzois in 1971.
