Varmala Drama in MP: Bride Dumps Groom Mid-Ceremony, Garlands Lover as Wedding Turns Chaotic

A dramatic incident unfolded in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara district when a bride ran off the stage during the varmala ceremony and chose her lover over the groom, triggering chaos at the wedding venue.

The incident took place in Umreth on the intervening night of April 27-28. The groom, from the Bhalavi family, had arrived from Parasia to Mujawar village with his wedding procession. The baraat was welcomed with celebrations, and preparations for the varmala ceremony were underway.

According to reports, the groom had reached the stage and the bride soon joined him with the garland in her hand. However, moments later, she looked around and suddenly ran off the stage. She approached her lover, who was present in the pandal, embraced him, and placed the varmala around his neck.

The unexpected act shocked everyone present at the venue. The bride’s family allegedly assaulted the youth, leading to a scuffle between both sides. The situation escalated as tensions rose between the groom’s party and the bride’s family.

Following the incident, the groom refused to proceed with the marriage, and the baraat returned without the wedding taking place.

Reports suggest the bride had been in a relationship with her lover for the past two years, and her family was aware of it. However, under family pressure, she had agreed to the marriage. Seeing her partner at the venue reportedly led her to change her decision.

After the incident, the bride remained at her home, while her family reportedly took back jewellery, ring, and mobile phone. The groom’s side has alleged loss of social and financial prestige and has filed a complaint at the police station.

Police have initiated an investigation into the matter, and further action is underway.
