00:00Now, Israeli naval forces have intercepted a humanitarian aid flotilla bound for Gaza.
00:06The incident took place in international waters near the Greek island of Crete,
00:10hundreds of miles from the Gaza coastline.
00:13Organizers from the Global Sumer Flotilla have condemned the move as piracy
00:17and an escalation of Israeli impunity.
00:23The fleet departed Barcelona on the 12th of April,
00:26carrying volunteers and essential supplies in a direct challenge to Israel's long-standing maritime blockade.
00:33Ten Malaysians were among those aboard the 22 vessels that were intercepted.
00:38Witnesses reported being approached by speedboats and drones before communications were jammed.
00:44Organizers argue that by intercepting vessels near Europe,
00:48Israel is extending its military reach far beyond its territorial jurisdiction.
00:53It is the second such confrontation in six months.
00:56Last October, a similar mission was halted by the IDF,
01:00resulting in the detention of more than 400 activists,
01:03including Swedish activist Greta Thunberg.
01:06Israel maintains it does not restrict essential supplies to Gaza's 2 million residents,
01:11but aid agencies warn the humanitarian crisis on the ground remains critical.
