00:05Welcome back, welcome back, it is so good to have you with us this evening, I'm Kate, this is Thierry,
00:10Jamie and Micah, we've just decided that moving forward, my voicing isn't good enough apparently on these promos, you're going
00:17to do the voicing, this game was brought to you by Verizon, the network America relies on.
00:25Ho ho ho, I've got that husky if you need husky, be louder, what do you mean?
00:30Husky, go ahead.
00:31Give it, what is it again?
00:33The post game show is brought to you by Verizon.
00:36By, by Verizon.
00:37Is that husky?
00:38That's not really husky, it's like.
00:39Husky's rough isn't it?
00:40Yeah, like a bit more manly.
00:43Yeah.
00:46That's, that's exactly that, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:50Right guys.
00:52Anywho, yes.
00:52Come on, can we just say though, can we keep the energy up?
00:54We had a great game yesterday, today I want the same energy and same effort, because a lot of people,
01:00you know, down tools, they've come in, this is one of our core audiences, give them what they want.
01:05The only one that needed coffee, was you?
01:07I know, yeah, I needed it, but I'm back.
01:11Yeah, we're all good.
01:12So it was 1-1 between Arsenal and Atletico, you shouldn't have had the coffee, you've gone loopy.
01:18Not exciting like yesterday, if we're honest, you don't always have to like it, but you can respect it.
01:24Yeah.
01:24Micah, isn't that right?
01:25Well, that's the famous quote from my friend Thierry.
01:28Yes.
01:28What do you think today?
01:29No, listen, yesterday we were on the moon, now we're back to, we're back on planet Earth.
01:34Mm.
01:35You have different ways of going about a game, we saw, we saw total football yesterday and we saw football
01:42today.
01:43It's just, you know, you have different ways to go about it, as I just said.
01:47And that's an old school way to play away from home if you are Arsenal.
01:52And we also know what Atletico's story is about and what we were expecting yesterday happened.
01:57We all enjoyed it.
01:58It was outstanding.
01:59We also expected what was going to happen tonight.
02:03I think the world of football was expecting what they saw tonight.
02:06Not a lot of chances, goal on set pieces at the end of the day because they're two, two penalties.
02:13But, but that's, that's an old school Jamie proper.
02:17Yeah, yeah, it was.
02:18The King of Spain was in the building, by the way.
02:21Yes.
02:22It was different, but as I said, it doesn't always have to be the same as last night.
02:25Yeah, but that's two goals in 90 minutes, so that's one goal every, every hour.
02:34Every, every hour.
02:34How good was this man on the pitch, though, Griezmann?
02:38That was his last, last ever game in the Champions League there, for sure.
02:41His touch and technique and his way of the pass is just brilliant.
02:46Has it made a difference when he, when he come on as well?
02:48Arsenal are missing something.
02:50They're missing a little bit of, I don't know if it's firepower, I don't know if it's confidence.
02:53I don't know if it's belief.
02:56They're missing something because Atletico today were there for the taking.
03:00As soon as Arsenal scored, Atletico come into the game and then they couldn't find the answers.
03:06And yes, every game is different.
03:08We know that.
03:09But I still think Arsenal could give a little bit more.
03:12In that final third, a little bit more quality.
03:14They didn't show up tonight.
03:16However, it's a good result.
03:17It's still, it's a good away result.
03:19As I said, sometimes I think we, we are a bit harsh with, with, with the expectation.
03:24You, you have a team that still didn't lose in the Champions League.
03:27There's still a team that's solid in the Champions League.
03:29And we all know how they are.
03:31I know what we saw yesterday, again, I repeat, was outstanding.
03:34But those two coaches don't go about the game the same way.
03:37And so it was never going to be people over-attacking, having a lot of chances.
03:43But what you have to say about Arsenal, as I mentioned so many times, they are solid, very difficult to
03:50beat.
03:50And yes, Griezmann did the crossbar and you're going to have some chances.
03:53Was it a penalty or not?
03:54We're going to discuss about it.
03:55I'm just saying at the end of the very day, this is still a team that still didn't lose in
04:00the Champions League.
04:01That, that, that counts for something.
04:02Of course.
04:03Understand me well.
04:03You still have to go and win and win the thing.
04:06But it's still a team that you kind of have to respect.
04:09I'm not talking about you, obviously, Mike.
04:10I'm just saying that it's a draw away from home.
04:13Back in any days and in my days, it's not a bad result.
04:16Now you need to finish the job at home.
04:17And again, I will repeat, that won't be easy for sure.
04:21But you have different ways to control a game or to go about a game and, you know, whether, as
04:26I said, you like it or you don't like it, those guys are, at the moment, performing-ish in brackets
04:33because you still have to go and get it in the Champions League.
04:36It's not a bad result.
04:37No, it's a really good result.
04:39I said before the game that I felt Arsenal were a far better team than Athletic Omnage.
04:44But I thought it was a 50-50 tie because I think of late, Arsenal got fatigued.
04:47But when I watched that game tonight, listen, there wasn't much in it in the end.
04:52But the weird times in the game where it almost felt easy for Arsenal, especially in the first half, even
04:57later on in the game, if someone was going to get the winning goal, you felt it might be Arsenal.
05:02Had a lot of possession around the edge of the box.
05:05He was obviously really good against the Man of the Match award there.
05:07But, no, it's a really good result.
05:11And I don't think Arsenal can do much more.
05:14And you said the lack in something.
05:16It's just, it's pure quality.
05:18What we saw last night from some of those players, that's what they're lacking in Arsenal.
05:22And if you haven't got them to do that magic, you haven't got them.
05:25You know, it's just, so I think for Arsenal to go there, get a draw away from home in the
05:31Champions League,
05:32and take it back to your own place against a team who you are better than.
05:36I thought they'd find it a lot tougher tonight at Arsenal.
05:38Because I thought there was signs of fatigue at the weekend.
05:41But I didn't quite see that tonight.
05:42Maybe that was down to the quality of Atletico Madrid.
05:46But, no, you go away in the semi-final, that's a really good result.
05:50Let's take you over to Madrid, where Guillaume Balog and Alessandro Del Piero are watching live for us.
05:55What was your guys' take on that game, having watched live?
05:59Welcome, guys.
05:59It felt perhaps that the first ten minutes, the venom of Atletico Madrid was taking away from Arsenal.
06:07Everything kind of balanced out in the first half.
06:09And then it was a completely different second half, wasn't it?
06:11Well, yeah, the result, of course, the goal from Arsenal changed their perspective.
06:16In the second half, Atleti showed what they are able to do.
06:22That is not only a great defensive counter-attack, but also maneuverate actions and plays and opportunities.
06:29They have many opportunities.
06:31So, they probably go with the jaw now, with the head down a little bit, because, you know, it's supposed
06:38to be a win from them, from my point of view.
06:40At least for the number of opportunities that they had.
06:43And I don't know if you saw it on television, but the floor was trembling, especially in the second half.
06:49The noise here was just incredibly, was helping Atletico Madrid that came off the blocks in the second half, maintain
06:55that pressure for a long time.
06:57And for the first 25 minutes of the second half, it was 27% possession for Atletico Madrid, 11 shots
07:05to none of Arsenal.
07:07That was their moment, wasn't it?
07:08It was definitely their moment, you know.
07:10And the people, you know, the fans, you know, as you said, give them, of course, an extra boost, because
07:16they were pressing everybody.
07:18I mean, they were pressing Atletico Madrid at some point when the ball went out, with the flow.
07:25So, it's unbelievable the rhythm that they put on the field, and they show good opportunities.
07:34And could you hear all that from the VIP that you were sitting in?
07:38Yeah, of course, it was a good, also good sounds.
07:43Did he not take you with him, Guilla?
07:44He just felt that this game is not over yet.
07:46Did he leave you in the regular seats whilst he went to the VIP?
07:51All of a sudden, I just went like...
07:53I thought he was horrible.
07:55We were told he was horrible.
07:57Now, Guilla was the first one to leave the pitch without me.
08:02He left me behind, so I need to find another place.
08:05Oh, Alessandro, I'd never do that to you.
08:09London next week?
08:10Should we rekindle our love?
08:12That's true.
08:12You know?
08:14Do you want me there?
08:15Of course I want you here, Alessandro.
08:17I've missed you.
08:20I'll book a flight then.
08:21Would you rather go to the other game?
08:23Come on, what would you do?
08:26Well, both games are great, to be honest.
08:29Bayern, Paris, PSG looks a little bit more exciting from some point of view.
08:34But a little bit, just a little bit.
08:37But because I'm going to be with you, I can be anywhere.
08:40Oh, come on.
08:41Perfect, Alessandro.
08:42I'll be waiting for you.
08:45I'll follow you anywhere, sir.
08:47All right, this is nice and weird.
08:48Guys, we'll leave each other with you some interviews.
08:51We'll be back with you.
08:52See you in a minute.
08:53See you in a minute.
08:56Why are you disrespecting, Alessandro?
08:57I know you guys just have this odd thing going on.
08:59Why?
09:00He's a legend, man.
09:01I know he is.
09:01I just felt bad for Guillaume because you were making out that you would be better company
09:05than Guillaume was.
09:06Well, I would be.
09:07Do you know what fruit Guillaume has on his shirt, by the way?
09:09What was it?
09:10A fruit salad?
09:11No.
09:11I don't know.
09:13Peaches.
09:13No.
09:14Oranges.
09:15No.
09:15Pineapple.
09:15No.
09:16Mango.
09:17No.
09:17Pear.
09:18No.
09:19Pomegranate.
09:20Yeah.
09:23Someone told you.
09:24Okay, I guess the gallery got bored of that one.
09:27We are going to go to a break, everybody.
09:28We'll be back in just a moment.
09:31Stay with us.
09:31We'll bring you the highlights, analysis, all of that good stuff in just a minute.
09:47Well, welcome on into our studio in London.
09:50Here we are.
09:51Have a hug.
09:51Yes.
09:52Kate, Thierry, Jamie, and Micah.
09:53So, we've got highlights for you of this 1-1 between Atletico and Arsenal from Madrid.
09:59Let's take you through it.
10:00Micah, you want to start us off with the highlights?
10:02Yeah, I'll go with Alvarez, seeing as a former City player.
10:05And, you know, I could...
10:06Who you were happy to get rid of?
10:07Well, I was buzzing when he was at Manchester City.
10:10I mean, this guy can do anything.
10:12Twisting and turning.
10:13And look at that for an effort.
10:15Just doesn't start it far enough away from the post.
10:18But, nevertheless, good save from David Rea.
10:21And then, Noni Madweke on the ball here, as you can see, cutting inside.
10:26And that ball was never going to be on target.
10:29But, at least he went in, tried.
10:32He was brave a couple of times, trying to run at people, and he couldn't curve that one in.
10:37Mm-hmm.
10:38And then the penalty decision.
10:40Hanko, it is a penalty.
10:42That one.
10:43I mean, Jokeres is clever, knows what he's doing.
10:45But why wouldn't you?
10:47Of course he should do that, Jokeres.
10:49Almost stop and wait for him to come in behind him.
10:52I agree with you, Jamie, but I still think it's pretty soft, you know.
10:55No, but what I'm saying is, what's Jokeres supposed to do, you know.
10:59But, you know what?
11:00As I said before, he's had a lot of criticism.
11:02Oh, my God, he takes a good penalty.
11:04He takes the courage.
11:05He steps up, puts his foot right through it, as we all like to see penalties taken.
11:09And there's the celebration.
11:12Mm-hmm.
11:13Yeah, this game was a bunch of penalty incidents.
11:16Let's take a look at the next one.
11:18Or, no, sorry, let's take a look at the same one again.
11:20Micah, how did you feel about this one?
11:23Yeah, I think Jamie's right in terms of he uses his body well.
11:27But is there enough contact there to warrant a penalty?
11:32I mean, he's wrong side, Hanko.
11:34So, the referee, especially when Jokeres gets in front of him, he's going to say it's a penalty.
11:40He's not going to go to the screener, and that's not going to be overturned.
11:43But I just feel that it was slightly soft.
11:46But I understand why the referee gave it.
11:49OK, let's go into the second half now and look at some chances for Atletico Madrid that we saw here.
11:54Jamie, you want to take these?
11:55Yeah, I think this is Luckman and Griezmann, isn't it?
11:59The double chance second half.
12:01And listen, they look like a different team, second half Atletico Madrid.
12:04We've seen this before with Simeone as soon as they go down.
12:06So, comfortable save initially.
12:09Then I thought, that's the big chance, isn't it?
12:11I thought initially it was the goalkeeper, but brilliant defending from Gabriel.
12:16When Gabriel does it, because it's attached to his body, I mean, close to his body, but it obviously...
12:24But this, I mean, it probably is in the law, a handball, in terms of where his arm is.
12:30But we don't want, I actually agree with you on this, Jamie.
12:33I don't want to see penalties given for this.
12:35I just don't, it just doesn't feel right to me.
12:37No, I really don't like it.
12:40And the only reason I'm saying this, Stando, if you're kicking the ball there, you kick the ball, I'm here.
12:46And if your body shape's there, your hand is going to be there.
12:50So that's a natural position.
12:53If Ben White, which I can't work out which way he's going, but he's fallen to one side.
12:59Your arm can't fall, it's got to be there.
13:02Correct.
13:02And initially when the ball's kicked, his arm is there, but it hasn't hit his arm yet.
13:06It takes a deflection.
13:08When it does hit his arm, his arm's there.
13:09But, yeah.
13:10And what's he supposed to do?
13:12He's fallen down to his hand, block a shot.
13:14It's winding me up.
13:15Last night was worse than that.
13:18But, yeah, look.
13:19He touches his leg and then goes on to his hand.
13:22No.
13:22It's not like it's out.
13:23It's not like it's out.
13:24It's out now.
13:24But it comes in and it takes a deflection, number one.
13:28When he's moving, his arm's going to be out.
13:29Now, I've said for a long time, I hate these penalties in the Champions League.
13:34And the thought of a Champions League final getting decided on that.
13:38But we're in the semi-finals.
13:41You know, we're very lucky last night.
13:44What's happening to your voice?
13:45I know.
13:46Because I'm so warmed up.
13:49But the point being is, last night was such a good game that we forgot about the penalty decision.
13:56Imagine there wasn't any other goals in the second half and we were talking about that.
14:00We should be talking about this as we are now.
14:03You know, the game finishes 1-1.
14:06No, I just, I'm not having it.
14:08It's not right.
14:08It's not fair.
14:10I just think it's gone far too far.
14:12But don't get me wrong.
14:14As soon as I saw the instance, I knew it was going to be a penalty.
14:17This is the Champions League way of doing it.
14:19But honestly, if we go to Budapest and someone wins the Champions League on one of these ridiculous handballs,
14:28it's a stain on the Champions League.
14:29The Champions League is the best competition in the world by a mile.
14:33The World Cup can't come close.
14:35No domestic division can come close.
14:37And the only thing letting it down is this, where you're just thinking, this is ridiculous.
14:42You've got the best players in the world playing for the biggest trophy they can win in club football.
14:46And something like that's going to decide a game at this level.
14:50It's not right.
14:50It's not fair on the players.
14:51Would you quit?
14:52Would I quit the game?
14:53Yeah, just no.
14:54No, there's a right few quits, innit?
14:57Hypocrisy.
14:59Hypocrisy at its finest.
15:01You should be going to have a reach, shouldn't you?
15:02Yeah, but they don't need to.
15:03I just, it's got to stop.
15:05You can solve this.
15:06Nobody likes it.
15:07Nobody likes it.
15:09Nobody.
15:09I have to agree with Jamie on this.
15:11What do you propose then?
15:12What do you think, what can happen then?
15:13It's just a bit of common sense.
15:15Oh!
15:16Where's Christina when you need the common sense?
15:18I mean, come on.
15:19You know what?
15:21The first thing that would stop the two penalties that we've saw the last two nights,
15:25if something hits another part of your body and then hits your arm, it's not a penalty.
15:30You would like that as a new law?
15:32Yeah.
15:32Okay, that's actually a solution instead of talking about the problem, because every time
15:36we talk about it, so I'm not having a go, I'm just saying that every time we're here
15:39talking about the problem, what can be the solution then?
15:42Then we can go forward, because always debating about the problem, you're not going anywhere.
15:47What can be the solution?
15:48So that's good.
15:49A new law, if there is a deflection that goes on the end, it should be okay.
15:52This is very constructive.
15:54I enjoyed this.
15:55Yes, there we go.
15:56Done.
15:56Settled.
15:57Yep.
15:57Can we get that short of the next week?
16:00Let's see.
16:02Alvarez scored the penalty.
16:03Should we take a look at it?
16:04Yes.
16:06We saw that David Raya, before that, went to the goalkeeper coach and had a long discussion.
16:11I think, obviously, he thought that he was going to have it to hit it in the middle.
16:15But Julian Alvarez just smashed it exactly in the same spot, obviously higher than what
16:22Jacarese did to make it 1-1.
16:24Then Griezmann hits the bar.
16:26Wonderful.
16:26The only thing I could criticise about his technique here, Kate, if you want me to educate
16:30you, you know, we're talking about education and all that sort of thing.
16:33He's leaning back when he hits it.
16:35So because he's leaning back, it sends the ball upwards, rather than, you know, maybe more
16:41on target, let's say.
16:44Thank you for mansplaining that to me.
16:47Yes.
16:47Can you tell us what you mean?
16:47Did you just say that?
16:49What did you just say?
16:51Mansplaining that to me.
16:52What did it sound like?
16:54No, I don't know.
16:54Oh.
16:54What did you, what did you not think I said?
16:57No, I've just seen him, shocked.
16:59Takes a lot to shock him.
17:00I know.
17:01What were you shocked about?
17:02No, it's all right.
17:02Let's move on.
17:06I don't even know what you bothered about.
17:07Where am I going next?
17:08So have we got more highlights?
17:10Lookman.
17:10Adamola Lookman had a chance.
17:12Who wants to take it?
17:13Yeah, Lookman.
17:17You like that, Kate?
17:18Come on, we've got to keep the crowd entertained.
17:22But, yeah, he does the first bit ever so well.
17:25He gets in front of Ben White there.
17:27And now you're just looking for a little bit of composure.
17:30He sort of has a touch, but he doesn't go out his feet.
17:32He's sort of reaching behind himself a little bit and can't get the purchase that he desires.
17:39So, yes, a little bit unlucky.
17:41And then we thought there was another penalty for Arsenal.
17:44But this is where VAR does its job.
17:47And it was the right decision.
17:48It's not a penalty.
17:50But you can understand why the referee gives it.
17:52You know, you see two players happen really quickly.
17:54He just gets there before the defender.
17:57But there's just no contact.
17:58He hasn't stood on the top of his foot.
18:00The boots have just come together.
18:02That's the best way of describing it.
18:04And that's where VAR works.
18:05And thankfully, as I said, we've had two really poor penalties given in the last two nights.
18:10For, you know, something different than that.
18:12But that was it.
18:13I think it was, you know, it was right that it was not given.
18:16Looking at it again, Mike, do you agree with Jamie on that?
18:18Yeah, I do.
18:19I do on that.
18:20And especially the way SA kicks out his left leg there.
18:24I mean, he's looking for it, isn't it?
18:26And VAR deserved a little bit of credit tonight because I think that was a very good decision.
18:33TT?
18:34That would have been a soft penalty.
18:37All agreed.
18:38All agreed.
18:40Last chance of the game came from Moskera.
18:43Should we take a look?
18:44Yes.
18:45I mean, at this point, Arsenal were pushing.
18:48I mean, they went into a five at the back.
18:52Moskera went wing-back and he found himself forward.
18:55But, I mean, the keeper of black pretty much had it covered.
19:00But they was putting players forward at the time.
19:03How about the fact, by the way, that we had a US international playing in a Champions League semi-final?
19:09Shout out Johnny Cardoso.
19:10Guillem Balaguet has spoken to him and asked him about those penalty incidents.
19:14Here we go.
19:15The two referee decisions.
19:18The third penalty was clearly that it wasn't.
19:20So it was disallowed.
19:22But the first two penalties.
19:24You think they were both penalties?
19:27The first penalty, to be fair, I didn't see after the game.
19:31So it was fast and I can't do a conclusion right now.
19:38But, of course, our penalty is a handball, clear.
19:42You were always going to say that anyway.
19:45So, second leg there, it's the Emirates, different atmosphere, of course.
19:51What do you think you need to do to get to the final?
19:54So, I think we need to go out with the same intensity that we go out in the second half
19:59and do the things how we are working for.
20:05Be intensity, win the duos and be us.
20:09Just enjoy the moment.
20:10And we know there will be a tough game against them as well.
20:16And we need to go out and be ready for anything.
20:20Johnny, thank you very much.
20:21Thank you very much.
20:24So good.
20:25US international on the pitch in a Champions League semi-final.
20:28Love it, love it.
20:29What did you make of his performance?
20:32Oh, solid.
20:32Solid like the team.
20:33You know, he wasn't much into the game, like I said to you.
20:36But to be able to have an American guy on the field at that level is outstanding for the country.
20:43Micah, you love to go Team America usually.
20:46Yeah, I mean, he had a good game, didn't he, Kate?
20:48Let's know.
20:49I don't want to go too, you know, over the top.
20:51Not like you?
20:53Well, I mean, I've learned by doing that.
20:56But yeah, he had a very good game.
20:57Solid, I would say.
20:59Seven and a half out of ten, if you must know.
21:01Oh, seven and a half.
21:02Okay, you've gone there.
21:03I guess one of the things that we've said is interesting about this tie is that Atletico now are all
21:08entirely focused on Champions League
21:11because they already know that they're going to finish within those Champions League spots in La Liga.
21:14So they can fully afford to focus on Champions League.
21:18Not the case for Arsenal, who now have to play in the league at the weekend.
21:21And then this second leg against Atletico next week.
21:24How will they manage that burden, that load?
21:26I don't see an issue, personally.
21:28Jamie doesn't agree with things that the Fulham game should be an issue in between the two.
21:33I'm not saying that it's going to be easy and pleasant because the game against Newcastle was very difficult.
21:38But you have the squad to be able to deal with that.
21:41So deal with it.
21:42You think differently.
21:44I just think it's here he's writing that they have got the squad.
21:46Now, if this was in November, you make a few changes.
21:50I just think the stakes are so high.
21:52There's no way Mikel Arteta is going to be making changes in these games.
21:57I'd be very surprised.
21:57Now, the reason maybe he's in this situation right now where a lot of players do look a little bit
22:02fatigued is because he hasn't made those changes earlier on.
22:05Maybe when the stakes weren't as high.
22:07But right now, I just think, you know, if they draw against Fulham, they'll think that they've lost the league,
22:13really.
22:13So I think, you know, if Mikel Arteta had already won the league, they'd probably make changes against Fulham.
22:21And they'd really go all in in this.
22:23I'm not talking about sort of seven or eight changes, but maybe two or three big players.
22:26And they think, OK, we'll keep you on the bench.
22:29I just think the stakes are so high for them in the Premier League and the Champions League.
22:32But the Premier League probably slightly more so as well because they've been so long.
22:36Can I just ask you, you was going for the league a couple of times with Liverpool, didn't you?
22:40The years when you was winning the Champions League, when you won the Champions League.
22:44But how did that differ when you won the Champions League and then the league?
22:48How did that differ, you know, in terms of Arsenal?
22:51Now, they're going for both.
22:52They're all in the running for both.
22:54But obviously, they need to win one.
22:56Would you say Arsenal fans Thierry would prefer to win the Premier League over the Champions League?
23:01We're not in that bracket of preferring.
23:03We didn't win anything for a very long time.
23:05You leave that to people that Man City can prefer stuff, not us.
23:10Give me something.
23:12You cannot be that cocky to say we prefer this or that.
23:15A team that often win can be cocky.
23:17I want something.
23:19I don't know what it's going to be.
23:20In terms of the fans, what would they prefer?
23:23I'm one.
23:24I don't prefer anything.
23:26Personally, like I said to you, the league.
23:28Because you can have a thing.
23:30But we cannot be sitting here and go like, let's see what we prefer.
23:34Man City can do that because that's what they're about.
23:38I'll take anything.
23:41As a fan.
23:42But now, if I analyse the game and everything, I want the league a bit more.
23:46Do you understand what I'm saying?
23:48But you can't be sitting here and saying, it will be this, it will be this, it will be that.
23:52But when you go for the title and the Champions League and the Cup, that's when it's difficult.
23:59That's when it's really extra.
24:01And if you go back to my time, I don't like to do eras and stuff.
24:04We are 18 players.
24:0617?
24:08Yes.
24:10How many do they have to play on a lot of, you know, you were...
24:17You can utilize your squadron, yeah.
24:18Yeah.
24:19But on a lot of competition, you are out of the FA Cup.
24:24Obviously, we know that.
24:25You were not in the semis.
24:29And so, you can deal with that.
24:32Would you rotate then if you were out of the FA Cup or would you make a few changes?
24:35What I'm saying is, I know they've got the numbers, but do you think...
24:38The rotation is, as you said before, for me, personally.
24:41I've been in that situation where I didn't play against Man United when we had to play
24:45Chelsea back-to-back.
24:46Man United and you guys, obviously, in the league, that was a tough game.
24:51I didn't play against Man United in the semifinal.
24:55Didn't play at all.
24:56So, rotation cannot be, for me, more than one or two.
25:00Last year, Paris Saint-Germain, on the run of the treble, okay, more often than not,
25:05it was Desi Redouille or Barcola.
25:07If not, it was the same team.
25:09So, are they superhuman?
25:11How can they play the treble?
25:13And people will tell me, yeah, but the league, that's your league, I've done it at Barcelona.
25:17We won the treble.
25:18Man United won the treble.
25:20Inter won the treble.
25:22You know, Bayern won the treble.
25:23You know, it can be done.
25:24So, what I'm trying to say to you is, I don't often like the excuses thing.
25:30You have a game in front of you, play it.
25:32You play the team that you play that's on you.
25:34You know, nobody remembers that I didn't play against Man United, right?
25:37Like, that goal when we lost against Man United in the semi-final, sorry, at the FA Cup.
25:42Nobody remembers.
25:42I remember, obviously, because I didn't play.
25:44But nobody remembers that.
25:46Nobody, there's no excuses.
25:47You have a team.
25:49As I said to you, you put money on the table, you have two squads.
25:52And I hope, as an Arsenal fan, that we can win.
25:56You understand what I mean?
25:57But then, you can't be sitting here, oh, E-R-O-U-R.
26:01You want to be in the semi-final of the Champions League.
26:03You want to be battling for the title.
26:05Embrace it.
26:06Battle for it.
26:07And let's see, at the end, like I always say, what's going to happen.
26:11Micah, talking about what's going to happen at the end of the season.
26:13Throughout the night, at some point, you've said, I think City will win the league.
26:16You've also said you think PSG or Bayern will win the Champions League.
26:19So, you believe that they'll end up trophy-less, Arsenal.
26:21Yeah.
26:23I only think that because of pressure.
26:26I think Arsenal, when these guys have been talking about Arsenal,
26:29and I've defended Arsenal a lot because in the Champions League League phase,
26:33they finished top.
26:35And yes, they're not scoring as much set-pieces,
26:36although they've scored a set-piece against Newcastle.
26:39I was thinking Arsenal was just going to get over the line.
26:42However, when they opened up that door for Man City,
26:44now it's not just about the football.
26:46It's about experience and it's about who can handle the pressure the most.
26:51When we were going for the league, we went ahead of Man United
26:55and then we couldn't deal with the pressure at the time.
26:57They went ahead of us.
26:58We chased, and that's why I always say with Jamie,
27:00I prefer to chase because I've done that.
27:02I've done that as a player and I feel like there was no pressure.
27:05Look at the last game of the season, QPR.
27:07That game, we should have beat QPR 3-4, 5-0.
27:11But it didn't go that way because of the pressure.
27:14And why I say Man City will win the league is because I think they've
27:17experienced in dealing with this, especially at this time of the season.
27:21In the Champions League, anything can happen.
27:24Thierry mentioned it for a while now in terms of defensively.
27:28They're the best, aren't they?
27:30They are the best.
27:31But it's just, can they get over the line going forward?
27:34And that might be a set piece.
27:35And they could win the Champions League in that manner.
27:37But at the league, I think Man City, at this time of the season,
27:41go and win it.
27:43All right, everybody, we've got more to come for you still here on the
27:46Champions League post-show.
27:47So please do stay with us.
27:49We'll be back in just a minute.
27:49We're going to take a short break and then we'll come back.
27:54Micah.
28:07I was the kid that shouldn't have made it.
28:09Texas kid on the field.
28:11Kid from Nacogdoches, Texas.
28:13Are you going to win it?
28:14Nacogdoches, some people would say.
28:17I probably read people the wrong way.
28:21Because I didn't give a shit what people thought about me.
28:24Kind of one of those things I wasn't going to be denied.
28:27And Clint looks at you, he looks like he wants to kill you.
28:30And I have respect for that.
28:31He did not hold back.
28:32That's the man.
28:33The man's going to have the last word.
28:35What's he saying?
28:36You don't know where I'm from, dog.
28:37Where are you from, dog?
28:38I'm from the oldest town, Texas.
28:40Nacogdoches is where I'm from.
28:41Oh, God.
28:42He had to kind of claw his way to every opportunity
28:45in ways that maybe other kids didn't have to.
28:49I feel like everyone has their time.
28:51When Clint came on the scene, it was Clint's time.
28:54Dempsey will try and chip on.
28:55What a default.
28:56He had this personal belief that he was going to make it no matter what.
28:59Clint's vagina is almost like plucked out of a Greek tragedy.
29:04He had to create a narrative that people were against him.
29:08Sometimes that was me.
29:10You're the soccer player.
29:11Now you're the soccer player.
29:12All he really wanted to do was win.
29:14He wanted it so bad.
29:16Had Clint been any different, we wouldn't be here talking about him,
29:19talking about the legend that he is.
29:21He had to be himself.
29:23Clint Dempsey, who else?
29:25Dempsey, astonishing.
29:27My mentality is make those m******s play you.
29:31Make them play you.
29:34It's a long way from Nacogdoches, everybody,
29:36to the World Cup.
29:38Clint's story is just, it's so good.
29:40It's extraordinary.
29:41You can stream the multi-part docuseries.
29:43You don't know where I'm from, dog.
29:44Right now on Paramount+.
29:46It is a great watch.
29:48The manager of Atletico Madrid, Diego Simeone,
29:51has spoken to Guillaume Balaguet after the game.
29:53We can listen in and I'll translate for you.
29:58Guillaume says, have you still got any strength to talk about the game?
30:02He says, yes, it was a pretty game, incredible atmosphere.
30:05The first half was more tactical, more studied.
30:11They played some good transitions.
30:13We had a good shot from Julian Alvarez, which was important.
30:19I think they made adjustments, they began pressing higher.
30:25I think they ended up feeling a little bit more tired.
30:29They are first of the league.
30:31They haven't lost a game in the Champions League.
30:33It's not easy to maintain that pace.
30:38We put ourselves in positions where we could have won the game,
30:40but we didn't take advantage of them.
30:42We have to say the keeper was also very good.
30:45Very good.
30:47We ended up with a draw.
30:50We have an incredible match, an incredible challenge ahead of us.
30:54And we're excited to go and play at their place.
30:56Usteno, el descanso se imaginó que todavía quedaba una marcha más
30:59y que se le podía coger al Arsenal o aprovecharse de esa falta de físico, a lo mejor.
31:04No, estoy convencido de eso físicamente van a ir bajando.
31:08He says, no, I think they'll end up declining physically
31:11because obviously they can't regalar nada porque está el Manchester City compitiendo.
31:18Manchester City is competing with them.
31:19La verdad que los que entraban eran mejor que los que salían.
31:22An incredible team.
31:23The players that came on were better than the ones that went off.
31:26They're going to have to put in a huge effort to continue fighting for the league
31:33and to compete on Tuesday as well.
31:37Arsenal now favourites the second leg or what do you think?
31:40Do you agree with what Simeone is saying and that, you know,
31:42basically what you're saying, Jamie, that it's not easy to be able to handle both of those?
31:47Arsenal favourites, second leg?
31:48Yes, I would say at the Emirates there would be favourites, but you don't know.
31:56It depends how the game goes at the weekend, doesn't it?
31:58Because, like I said before, it's confidence.
32:01In terms of the 4-0 win at the Emirates before, yes, you would say they're favourites,
32:06but football doesn't work like that.
32:07You can't predict how football's going to go at this time of the season
32:10because always crazy results.
32:12So, yes, I would give them slight favourites of Atletico,
32:16but in the Champions League, you just never know.
32:18You just never know.
32:20It's what Jamie loves about the Champions League.
32:21Yeah.
32:22Yeah.
32:22I wasn't sitting on the fence there.
32:23I was just thinking about it.
32:25No.
32:25Won't you?
32:26Sorry?
32:27Huh?
32:27I said I wasn't sitting on the fence there with the question.
32:29I was just thinking about Fulham.
32:31Fulham.
32:32If they don't win at Fulham, it could be difficult, that game,
32:37because the confidence could drain out of them.
32:40And that's why I honestly believe.
32:42Do you love the Champions League, Kate?
32:44I do love the Champions League.
32:45Yes, with all my heart.
32:47Wow.
32:47Yes.
32:50Mikel Arteta has spoken to Guillaume as well,
32:51so let's listen to what he had to say about the penalty incidents.
32:54Here we go.
32:55The penalty that was disallowed.
32:57They've been very clear.
32:57In the Premier League, it's not a penalty.
32:59In the Champions League, it is a penalty.
33:00They made it very clear from day one.
33:02I think they were consistent.
33:03Yesterday, the Bayern Munich, you see a handball there.
33:05It's a penalty.
33:07I understand that today is a penalty.
33:09The second one with Epps is unacceptable, in my opinion,
33:11because then there's no consistency there.
33:14You're fuming.
33:14I am, because obviously it changes the course of the time.
33:18Yeah.
33:19The first half was not much happened.
33:22You tried to take the venom out of Atletico Madrid in the first few minutes.
33:26You managed to do so and controlled.
33:27But the second half, it felt like between the stadium and then putting a gear up.
33:32It was hard for you.
33:33Yeah, between what they've done and what we've done as well,
33:35because we have given some balls to give them that encouragement, unfortunately,
33:38and generate that moment.
33:40We knew we were going to have a period of that manner.
33:43They've done it against the best teams in the world here and they battled them.
33:46We went through that.
33:47I think we finished the game very strong in the last 15 and 20 minutes with the changes as well.
33:52So everything is open.
33:53We had the opportunity to go to the Champions League final in front of our people.
33:58We need to go and win it.
34:00Last one.
34:01Simeone was talking that he knows you're going to suffer.
34:03You're going to have to use a lot of energy against Fulham first and going back.
34:07And he will always try to take advantage of it.
34:11How do you counteract that?
34:12Nothing.
34:13We can only recover, sleep, eat, and give the boys a lot of love.
34:17What we've been through, it's incredible.
34:20But, I mean, it's the opportunity and the energy that I bring to be
34:24trying to win the Premier League and the Champions League.
34:26It's nothing like it.
34:28Have a good rest.
34:29Thank you so much.
34:29Cheers.
34:30Thank you.
34:30Thanks, Kian.
34:31Yes, nothing like it.
34:32So, everybody, we are going to bring you a big announcement after this break.
34:37How many announcers we have here tonight?
34:39How many have we had?
34:40Have we got the friends?
34:41What friends?
34:43Oh, Beckham and Friends.
34:44What are the names?
34:45I don't know what the announcement is.
34:47Oh.
34:48Do you guys know what the announcement is?
34:49No, I don't know what the announcement is.
34:50You're the one who said it.
34:51Apparently, it's big for you, Jamie Carragher.
34:53It's a big surprise.
34:55Oh.
34:56What could it be?
34:56The favourite of the show.
34:57First he gets tickets, now he's a big announcement for Jamie.
35:01Ah, stop eating.
35:02We'll be back in a minute, everyone.
35:03Stay with us.
35:04Yes.
35:09Hey, everybody.
35:09Thank you for still being with us.
35:10Good to have you with us tonight.
35:12We're going to take you out to Madrid again, over to Alessandro Del Piero
35:14and to Guillaume because they've been there, busy interviewing people.
35:18What have your thoughts been on those interviews, Guillaume?
35:21What do you take from that?
35:23Well, one of the things that everybody's mentioned,
35:26and I want Alessandro on this,
35:27is something that Jamie was discussing,
35:29that it feels not enough to actually decide a tie or a final or whatever
35:34on the kind of penalties that have been given today.
35:36You agree on that, no?
35:37Yeah, I saw, like Jamie said, soft, soft penalties.
35:43Tonight, I saw a soft penalty yesterday,
35:46so some of them for me it wasn't a penalty at all,
35:50so that's weird.
35:52But, you know, as Arteta said, this is the rule,
35:54this is how we need to deal with it.
35:56So, it is what it is at the end of the day, you know,
35:59it's part of the game.
36:00But it's not great to watch these kind of things
36:06when you have this quality on the pitch.
36:08Because last night we saw amazing goals,
36:13plays that are out of control, attacking,
36:17going on one side, the other side.
36:20Tonight we saw a little more tactical stuff,
36:22you know, how difficult it was, you know,
36:24penetrating both defences.
36:26So, it's two ways to watch the games,
36:29but at the end of the day,
36:30this is what we want to do, we want to see.
36:33We want to see a spectacle, don't we?
36:34Now, we're going to be in the second leg,
36:36and in theory, on paper,
36:38you would say Arsenal may be favourites,
36:40but we hear Simeone say,
36:41I know they're going to be tired,
36:43I know that they will have to give a lot
36:46in the game against Fulham,
36:47and he will try to take advantage of that.
36:49Does that give Atletico Madrid a bit of an edge?
36:52No, I think Arsenal will have an advantage
36:55because they play home
36:56and because they have a better bench than Atletico.
37:00Atletico, what is missing today,
37:02because of injury, you know,
37:04they have two between yesterday and today,
37:07two new injuries,
37:08let's see Alvarez what's going on tonight.
37:10So, it does have a replacement at that level.
37:14But in any case,
37:16you need to do two great games,
37:18either Arsenal or Atletico,
37:21in order to pass and go to the final.
37:23It'll be great at the Emirates,
37:25and let's hope it doesn't get decided on penaltitos,
37:27as we call them,
37:28little penalties.
37:30I'm interested,
37:31in terms of next week,
37:33what outfits you guys have planned,
37:35because I feel like, you know,
37:36you've obviously thought about this tonight,
37:39put it together very nicely.
37:41Kate, you know,
37:43I'm dressing white and red
37:45because all the four teams
37:47that are on the semifinals
37:49have in their color white and red.
37:52Plus, a little bit touch of blue
37:53because, you know,
37:54PSG and Atletico is also blue.
37:56So, this is the explanation of my outfit tonight.
37:59It's the celebration of this semifinals.
38:01Next week, I don't know.
38:03Maybe you're going to come,
38:05I don't know,
38:05with a bathroom suit.
38:07I don't know.
38:07What do you suggest?
38:09No, bathsuit.
38:09I think bathsuit's on fine.
38:11Yeah.
38:12Pyjamas.
38:13Will pyjamas do?
38:14Pyjama?
38:15Pyjamas then.
38:15Yeah.
38:17Did you say pyjama, Jemmy?
38:19Because our translator doesn't,
38:21doesn't work that much.
38:22No, I thought you said,
38:23birthday suit.
38:26Birthday suit.
38:27Take it.
38:28Make it.

38:50He knows what the announcement is.
38:51Is this true?
38:52Yes.
38:53So, Micah is going to break the news to Jamie
38:56after this break.

40:31All the gang were there.
40:34Shapes.
40:34I was DJing, winding up my waist.
40:37It was absolutely brilliant.
40:39Had a bit more timber back then.
40:41So Slim Meeks this year, potentially.
40:44But this year, they're exactly the same.
40:47And it's for you, Jamie!
40:50They're hosting a party for Jamie.
40:53Okay.
40:53Look at this.
40:54Football after dark.
40:57Yeah.
40:57Hosted by football legend, Jamie Carragher.
41:00Can I make it like an Ibiza night in Budapest?
41:03You can do what you want.
41:04What would that be like?
41:05Please, though, just invite the staff, though.
41:07You know what?
41:07There's a dunk dance.

41:55Okay.
41:56Motown.
41:56Yeah, just like tunes that you can dance to.
41:58Do you dance, Kate?
42:00Why does this question keep coming back around?
42:02Karaoke, Jamie?
42:03Yeah, I can't have karaoke.
42:04Yes.
42:06Mmm.
