00:15I'm on my way to pick up actor-comedian Tiffany Haddish.
00:19And she's known for her light-hearted sense of fun
00:22that she brings to every role.
00:32You don't see how she feels in the world.
00:51I'm coming for to the world!
00:58Okay, when it comes to habitats, this is not my natural habitat, okay?
01:02My natural habitat is big cities, cars.
01:07That's my natural habitat.
01:08But, you know, I think my soul's habitat, this is it.
01:14But usually more trees.
01:16I'm not going to lie to you.
01:17I thought I was going to the woods.
01:21Oh, well.
01:22Here's something you need to know about Tiffany Haddish.
01:24She pushes buttons.
01:29Tiffany Haddish is a Grammy and Emmy Award-winning actress,
01:34comedian, and producer.
01:36She's made history as the first black female stand-up comedian
01:40to host SNL.
01:42I grew up in foster care,
01:43and I want to say thank you to anyone who paid taxes
01:46between 1990 and 1999,
01:48because if you wouldn't have paid your taxes,
01:51I wouldn't have been standing here today, so thank you.
01:53And Tiffany's unfiltered and vulnerable storytelling
01:56extends beyond stand-up.
01:59She became a New York Times best-selling author
02:02for her memoir about life growing up in foster care.
02:06A lot of revelations in this book.
02:08I'm comfortable sharing it because I feel like
02:09I can't be the only person in the world
02:11that's gone through these things.
02:12Her ability to share her hardship with humour and charisma
02:16sets her apart.
02:17I don't know if it's difficult for our women of colour,
02:19but from my experience, it's hard.
02:22It's that positive energy and resilience
02:24that makes Tiffany shine
02:26that's going to be key for her out here in the wild.
02:29We out of here.
02:31Come on, girl.
02:35Below me is the mighty Colorado River,
02:381,500 miles long,
02:41and it's tall, these huge canyons,
02:43incredible arches, and massive cliff.
02:49Tiffany, get ready for running wild.
02:54Bear gave me this backpack.
02:57Let's see what's inside of it.
02:58We got a tarp, a gag ball, and a rope.
03:05Ooh, you're kind of freaky as me.
03:08Let's go!
03:18I got you.
03:19Come on.
03:20There's no bear on a damn helicopter
03:22hanging off the side of it.
03:24Like he Indiana Jones, Temple of Doom.
03:26Like he coming to rescue Saturday.
03:28Let's bring your ass on over here.
03:46Just about to go.
03:47He's just about to go.
03:48He's off.
03:48He's off.
03:50He's off.
03:50He's off.
03:51Hey.
03:51Come on.
03:52Come on.
03:53Come to me.
03:53You OK?
03:54Yeah.
03:54Ready?
03:57Welcome to running wild, Tiffany.
03:59Yeah!
04:00Let's go!
04:08OK, so we're going up into the mountains over there.
04:12Ooh!
04:14Tiffany and I will be making our way through a harsh desert terrain.
04:18We'll need to move quickly across sandstone fins and valleys.
04:22We'll have to climb our way up a sheer cliff using a tight slot canyon, then make our way across
04:29a mesa down into a deep valley towards camp.
04:32Our final push will mean Tiffany using everything she's learned to climb up a towering sandstone mountain and onward to
04:41a remote cliffside exfil.
04:43But before our journey through this desert labyrinth, we first need to find a way out of this heli amongst
04:49this rocky terrain, let's hope Tiffany is a quick study.
04:54Whatever happens, that hand never comes off, OK?
04:56OK, no, watch me, I'm going to do the same.
04:59I'm leaning back, wide spot, I'm flexing the head, but I go under.
05:11Oh, that's perfect.
05:20This white boy's sick in the head. He think I'm finna come up out this helicopter on the road.
05:26And then I thought to myself, come up out the helicopter on the road or without the road?
05:32Gonna take the road.
05:33You've got to move.
05:38You've got to move.
05:42Ah, ah.
05:47She's a badass.
05:56Woo!
05:57Great job, pal.
05:58Awesome, good for you.
06:07Yeah, easy peasy.
06:09What's next?
06:09I love it.
06:10She was super calm in that helicopter.
06:12It's not easy rappelling out.
06:13There's a lot going on.
06:14That was nothing.
06:16She was, like, zen calm, really focused, and did it like a boss.
06:21Feeling good already?
06:22Yeah, feeling very good.
06:23Let's do it.
06:24He's helping me take it off, y'all.
06:26Come on.
06:28I've already got him where I want him.
06:31I think I could definitely push her a little bit today.
06:33We've got a bunch of all of these canyons to get up and down and across.
06:37Our extraction's about five or six miles that way.
06:39Instead of calling it extraction, can we call it birth?
06:42Yes.
06:43Maybe extraction conjures up loads of bad images.
06:46It just makes me think of, like, pimples and, like, you know.
06:49Dentists.
06:50Yeah.
06:51Go through the journey.
06:52Six miles that way.
06:53Yeah, that's what it felt like when I was being born.
06:55Six miles.
06:56It was only six inches, but it felt like six miles.
06:59The longest six inches of your life.
07:01Let's go.
07:05So what made you get into this lifestyle?
07:08You got in trouble in school and got put out the house.
07:11That is weird, Lee.
07:12How do you know that?
07:13Yeah, good guess.
07:15You look like the type that would get in trouble in school.
07:17That's a good guess.
07:18I can tell.
07:19Well, you know what?
07:19I'm not good at very many things, but the few things I love are wrapped up in all of
07:24this right here.
07:24Good people, the outdoors.
07:27Lucky the good Lord gave me a job, Tiffany.
07:29Yeah.
07:29That's how I look at it.
07:30This ain't a job.
07:31This is an experience.
07:33Yeah, that's true.
07:35You get a chance to, like, get into the outdoors?
07:38Often.
07:39I try to make sure I get outside daily.
07:41Oh, that's good.
07:42Yeah.
07:42And I'm a farmer.
07:44Really?
07:44Yeah.
07:45Like what sort of things?
07:45Like cucumbers, collard greens, bell peppers, onions.
07:50Got a lemon tree, got a plum tree.
07:52I love plums.
07:53They're my favourite.
07:54Same.
07:54Yeah, I love plums.
07:55Yeah, I'm just curious about all things created by God.
07:59Yeah, that's a great way of looking at life.
08:01But you were athletic as well growing up, weren't you?
08:03Yes, I was.
08:04I was all city in the track and field and high jump and shot put.
08:08Yeah.
08:09Used to do the hurdles and triple jump.
08:11Did I read that you were like the mascot when you were at school?
08:14Oh, yeah, I was a high school mascot.
08:16What does that mean?
08:16I was a conquistador.
08:18I was a, yeah, I was a Spanish soldier that ran around the school during football games
08:24and got everybody excited about the games.
08:27And I turned it into a little bit of a career, if you would say.
08:30Yeah, but that's, like, amazing.
08:31At a young age, you were obviously a light.
08:35Yeah.
08:36Find the funny, bring the joy, by any means necessary.
08:39If some people get offended, that's because they got some stuff going on inside their heart
08:43they need to get over.
08:44But, you know, I'm coming from a place of goodness and trying to bring joy.
08:48Well, the world needs that.
08:49Good for you.
08:49Yeah.
08:50Yeah.
08:51Let's keep that spirit today.
08:52All right, let's keep it.
08:54So we're going to head up over the top of this.
08:57You want to go up there?
08:59Well, no guarantees, but a chance we can make it through.
09:03But that looks like a scene out of a bad movie where a man had to chew his arm off
09:07in
09:08order to live.
09:08A lot of the time when you're trying to get out of places, you know, jungles, deserts,
09:13mountains, you always want to head downhill.
09:14For this journey, though, our end point is actually up quite a bit.
09:18And we're at a bit of elevation and altitude already.
09:20So this will be a physical journey.
09:23You know I put hiking on here.
09:24We might need to change that from hike to climb.
09:27Come on, we're going this way.
09:29Right, people.
09:32Good job.
09:32Look at you.
09:33You've got strength and balance.
09:35I love it.
09:36I could have climbed up.
09:39It's quite tight.
09:43That's what he said.
09:45One thing I noticed, she loves to laugh.
09:47If you can laugh at yourself, at situations, that conquers everything.
09:56Wow, look at this.
09:57This is really opening up.
09:59I mean, it's still tight.
10:01Canyonland is harsh.
10:03You can see the power of wind and rain carved through some of the slot canyons.
10:07Okay, you got another one out there.
10:09That's too skinny.
10:11That's model size.
10:13If that's the top there, that's going to save us hours.
10:18This is also snake terrain to be mindful where you're putting hands in crevices and cracks
10:24and holes.
10:26Okay, so look, this is as far as we can go.
10:29This will definitely be physical.
10:32It's hard work.
10:33We got to do it like in the karate movies.
10:36But also, Tiffany's pretty fearless with all this.
10:39Yeah.
10:40Yeah, we'll bridge it.
10:41Exactly.
10:42With these sheer cliffs, handholds are hard to find.
10:46So to make our way up, Tiffany and I will need to see if we can chimney climb to the
10:51top.
10:52I'll trail this rope.
10:54Uh-huh.
10:54And then I'll secure it at the top.
10:56It's actually quite technical to do where you've got to brace yourself against the wall
11:00and get your knees up high and use, like, opposing forces against the wall to crank your
11:05way up this thing.
11:05But it's awkward.
11:09You want to push your back against the wall.
11:13And I'll just keep climbing your way up.
11:15But it's your pressure against the wall that is your security.
11:20You got it.
11:24You can do it.
11:25I'm so proud of you.
11:27Keep up the good work.
11:30Woo-hoo!
11:31You made it!
11:34It looked like you made it.
11:35Okay.
11:36So that's good.
11:37So let me secure this, and then we'll bring you up.
11:41It's kind of like what we used to break into buildings that was abandoned back in the 1900s.
11:48The most nimble boy with glamour.
11:50He done bust me in the face with the rope.
11:59Okay, that's brace yourself back against the wall.
12:02That's it.
12:02Beautiful.
12:03You're, like, bridging your way up.
12:04Inch by inch.
12:05She's got really nice balance and strength.
12:08Takes a little bit of sensing that rhythm and stuff, but she's going to smash it.
12:13Great job.
12:14Great job.
12:14Use your hands.
12:15That's it.
12:16Like, opposing forces.
12:17Beautiful.
12:28I'm one of them people that, like, if I see you do it, I think I can do it, too.
12:34Good job.
12:35Just rest.
12:35Don't take a break.
12:36Yeah.
12:38Now, I might not actually be capable, but I will believe in me enough that I will get
12:44it done.
12:46Who are you telling?
12:47I would try and get you on the right foot.
12:50Lay high.
12:53Oh, mate.
12:53She's not a idiot.
12:55If I die in this canyon, I'll be the most famous person to die here.
13:01Give me a second.
13:04Give me a moment.
13:18Don't take a break.
13:19Oh, mate.
13:20She's not a idiot.
13:23Take your time to recover.
13:30I think I'll go there.
13:31Left foot there, and then right foot against it.
13:34Yeah, that works as well.
13:35Oh.
13:35Now I've got you here, OK?
13:38I've got my butt up here.
13:39Great, great.
13:40That's a tricky move.
13:41You did it beautifully.
13:42The outdoors has a way of getting you into the most, like, awkward, difficult positions,
13:46you know?
13:47OK, you're going.
13:48One, two, I've got you as well.
13:52OK.
13:57It's coming out.
13:59What's coming out?
14:01What's coming out?
14:02The lining of my uterus.
14:04Oh, no, no.
14:05I'm going to be honest with you.
14:07Probably picked the wrong time of the month to do this show.
14:11You know, but I'm doing it.
14:13I'm prepared for every eventuality in life, apart from, in a slop canyon, being able to
14:19handle prolapse uterus with the one that sneaked through my resume.
14:24Sometimes your body be trying to outdo your brain, but then you have to outmind your brain
14:31and your body, and you have to tell all of them, I don't give a damn what you doing.
14:37We're going up here.
14:38That's where we gotta go.
14:43I moved the way God intended.
14:47I'm on top of the world!
14:49On top of the world!
14:50You're the first man to bring me to the top of a mountain.
14:54Morale in the wild is always the first thing to go.
14:57When people get tired and headaches and it's hot.
15:00That's all good for you.
15:01I'm going through puberty right now.
15:02You're what I call unstoppable.
15:04Hold up.
15:05I'm a human.
15:06I can't be stopped.
15:07But, uh, she really loves to laugh.
15:10And that is such a powerful weapon in a survivor's arsenal.
15:13It really is.
15:14Once we're over that, then that'll be canyon one done.
15:18How many canyons you planning on us doing today?
15:22It's good.
15:22We're getting there.
15:30Look at the lizard!
15:32Lizard!
15:35Tell you what, should we just make use of this little bit of shade?
15:38Five minutes?
15:39Yeah.
15:39Drink your water and then we'll get moving.
15:40Three.
15:44Where does your, uh, wonderful, warm personality come from?
15:48Um, it comes from, uh, survival.
15:51Yeah.
15:51And, uh, I guess I try not to be bored at all costs.
15:56Hmm.
15:57No matter what I'm doing, I want to have fun.
15:59So I feel like the best way to have fun is to have a positive attitude.
16:02Yeah.
16:03You find survival skills in life, don't you?
16:05Whatever works.
16:06Yeah.
16:06Like, I assume some gonna happen out here.
16:09But if I have fun in the process, it'll be okay.
16:13Yeah.
16:13You know, like, so create a positive environment as much as possible,
16:18even though this is, uh, kind of uncomfortable.
16:20Mm.
16:21People are, like, nervous of the unknown.
16:22And it's like, you're not scared to embrace that.
16:25Nah.
16:26It's every day feels like I'm out of my comfort zone.
16:29So I used to be, like, really scared of everything.
16:32Mm.
16:32But I figured fear is false information appearing real.
16:37And so, uh, when you're afraid, get as much information about the thing that you're afraid
16:42of, and then push through it.
16:44Mm.
16:44Like, go.
16:45But did you have that positive spirit at that age, or have you learned that, do you
16:49think?
16:50No, I had that spirit at that, at 14, I had that spirit.
16:54I mean, by then I had already been in several foster homes, and, um, what it felt like, I'm
16:58just like, boom, I'm in a stranger's house again.
17:01Like, I'm living with people I don't know.
17:03Might as well make the best of this.
17:04Like, also, you want to have that, like, kind of fun personality?
17:08Because I didn't want to get put out.
17:10Mm.
17:10And cleaned up and everything that they would want me around.
17:14Mm.
17:14But then I was still getting moved.
17:16Right?
17:16Um, and at that time, I didn't comprehend that that had a lot to do with the courts and
17:20not to do with the, the foster parents.
17:23I just, for me, I just thought, they don't want me.
17:25Don't nobody want me.
17:26Mm.
17:28I did all these nice things and they still don't want me.
17:30Like, I cleaned the kitchen.
17:32Mm.
17:32I cleaned the toilets.
17:33I, I made the beds.
17:34I did, like, I helped.
17:36I cut the grass.
17:36Like, I did all these things and they still don't want me.
17:40And it's not that, it's not that they don't want you.
17:44Mm-mm.
17:44It's the courts, like, okay, you've, at this age, you got to go here now or you have to
17:48go there.
17:48But they, they don't explain that to you.
17:50Mm-mm.
17:50Nobody's explaining those things to you.
17:52So, you, you left to assume.
17:55As soon as I start thinking back about that past, I don't, I don't know how I did it.
18:00Mm-mm.
18:01But I did.
18:02Just like I could not tell you exactly how we climbed that, that cave.
18:06I couldn't tell you exactly how it happened.
18:08All I could tell you was that it happened.
18:10Yeah.
18:10And that we did it.
18:12Yeah?
18:13I'm so sorry you've had all of that.
18:15Yeah, I'm sure you had some , too, though.
18:16But it's like, you know what?
18:17You, the fact, the fact that you want to be out here like this, I know some things that
18:21happened to you.
18:21It's true.
18:22I know you've been through some stuff.
18:23It's true.
18:24And I like you a lot, too.
18:25So I know you've been through it.
18:26But it's also, it's okay.
18:28Yeah.
18:28It's like, like, that's life.
18:29It's, it's, I always remember my grandpa, he said, he, he said, I never met a strong person
18:35who's had an easy past.
18:37And it's like, if you want to be strong, you're going to deal with some stuff.
18:40And it's not always going to be fun.
18:41Right.
18:42You know, you've never been moved around from house to house.
18:44But I'm sure you've been through some .
18:46I could tell.
18:47I could see your soul.
18:49I want to give you a big hug, but you must be, and so am I.
18:52We smelling like humans out here.
18:56Right, come on.
18:57We'll keep moving.
18:58All right.
18:59Tiffany opened up about very difficult times in her life when she was younger.
19:03And, I don't know, I really admire, first of all, that honesty and that vulnerability,
19:07but also how she's learnt in life to cope with these things.
19:12And, yeah, a true never give up as she is.
19:21So we're getting some distance now under the foot, which is good.
19:26But the sun is dipping.
19:27We need to keep that energy, keep that intensity.
19:30This is going to be an adventure.
19:33You doing all right?
19:34Yeah, I'm considering this a spiritual journey.
19:37Yeah.
19:37You know, today's Yom Kippur, where you're supposed to repent for your sins.
19:48I feel like Bear and I got a closer connection now, because I shared some dark stuff.
19:54I let them know I've been through some things.
19:55This is how you tell men you crazy without telling them you crazy.
19:58Share a little bit of your tragedy, so he understand.
20:02Okay.
20:03If she didn't give up off of that, she's probably not going to give up.
20:16I can do it, Dad.
20:18You're smashing it.
20:19I can do it, Dad.
20:21You are doing it.
20:22Yeah.
20:23Tiffany and I are continuing onward through a series of sandstone mesas and valleys.
20:29After a tough climb up, we now have to find our way down to the next valley,
20:34before pushing forward towards our extraction point.
20:39Almost at the top here.
20:40This is going to be good.
20:42This will be worth it.
20:43I feel like burning up the calories is already worth it.
20:47Now, look at that fruit.
20:49That is amazing.
20:51We need to drop off this high ground, though.
20:54We're going to use the last bit of this rope.
20:56But look, there is nowhere to tie up here.
20:59We've got no trees, no big rocks.
21:01We're going to use this anchor of yours.
21:04All right.
21:05Perfect.
21:06So that's a sea anchor from the boat.
21:07That whole time I was on the boat trying to figure out what this was.
21:11You know?
21:12And it is a sea anchor.
21:14They just throw it.
21:15It acts like a parachute in the water.
21:16Keeps the boat steady.
21:18Yes.
21:18Also, you can use it as a hat.
21:20Sunshade?
21:21Actually smart?
21:23Yes.
21:24Oh, it's a sandstorm!
21:27I thought it was a device to protect your face from the sun.
21:31I can still see what's going on.
21:33Do you think there's a small chance that the sun has got you, Tiffany, at this stage of the journey?
21:38No, that's my imagination, bro.
21:42But it's not good that way because the predators, you can't see the predators.
21:46Maybe a cougar or two.
21:48Okay.
21:49Careful, there's cougars out here.
21:51That's true.
21:52I know.
21:53We're going to fill this with rocks?
21:55Yeah.
21:56Keep me focused.
21:57You keep focused.
21:58I got to keep your eyes on the ground.
21:59Don't mess like we're focused on the rocks.
22:02Either way, I thought it was for protection.
22:05Ah!
22:06See?
22:07But yeah.
22:08Today, it'll be used to protect us from dropping to our death.
22:14This the kind of rock we need.
22:16Because you weigh probably about 180-something.
22:19I'm looking at your frame.
22:21Yeah, go on.
22:21Put that on top.
22:22That's great.
22:23Ah!
22:23Great job.
22:25Tiffany's got that sea anchor that I asked her to grab from the boat at the start of the
22:29journey.
22:30We're going to use that.
22:31We're just going to fill it full of rocks, jam it behind a little ledge.
22:34Good.
22:35Put all your weight on it.
22:36Let me give it to you.
22:38Hopefully there's enough weight there and if all the pulling direction is kind of laterally,
22:43it won't pop out.
22:45I think we got it.
22:47And that will be our anchor point.
22:51Tiffany and I are rappelling 120 feet down, but the descent is steep and the footing precarious.
23:00Tiffany will need to stay focused as this is much harder and more dangerous than it looks.
23:09Okay, so Tiffany, nice wide stance, yeah?
23:13Yeah.
23:13The handle, when you put the weight on it, you pull the handle and it will release.
23:18Let go of the handle and you're locked off.
23:20Locked it.
23:20Okay?
23:22There's a man pulling on my cord.
23:25Tiffany's pretty fearless with all this, but also this is tricky terrain.
23:30So it's kind of in at the deep end.
23:34So keep this hand still down here and just gently release this and walk your way back.
23:40Yeah, I could be in the Marine.
23:42You've definitely got the Marine spirit.
23:44Go on, get down there now.
23:46Hooray!
24:00This is a tricky bit.
24:16Okay, Tiffany, you're good.
24:18I have repelled several times in life.
24:22I've repelled off a side of a building.
24:25I've repelled men.
24:26So I've repelled.
24:28Properly trained on it?
24:29Never.
24:30Never been properly trained.
24:32Now we gonna see what happens.
24:43All day I've been climbing.
24:45Climbing, climbing.
24:46Straight to the top all day.
24:48Now we're going down.
24:50I don't want to go down.
24:52I don't want to go down.
25:22Great job.
25:25I got it.
25:27Nice.
25:30Well controlled.
25:33Great job, Tiffany.
25:36I felt fear.
25:38Not in me.
25:39Bear was scared for me.
25:41He was scared.
25:41I could tell I felt his fear.
25:43That's it.
25:44Well done.
25:44Great effort.
25:46Well recovered.
25:47Going up that edge is awkward.
25:55Well done.
25:55You all right?
25:56Yeah.
25:57I really wanted to do some flips.
26:00Well, you did.
26:01But you sounded concerned.
26:02Well, I was a little concerned when you went upside down.
26:04I was planning on doing flips.
26:06And then you were like, are you okay?
26:08And I'm like, okay, let me just...
26:10Well, I care.
26:10I want you to be all right.
26:11It's like...
26:12I was gonna flip around and stuff, have some fun.
26:14No.
26:15I'm not gonna lie.
26:16My heart definitely missed a beat.
26:18I can't decide whether she was like messing with me,
26:22which she does a lot.
26:24Or whether she really turned upside down accidentally.
26:27Either way, a few more gray hairs today.
26:31Bear, what you doing?
26:32Come on!
26:35Okay.
26:36Don't burn through that energy.
26:38We're going this way.
26:47The sun is fierce.
26:49So I'm always just mindful to try and make use of a bit of shade along the way.
26:53Don't try and beat the sun in the desert.
26:55We're gonna have to bat smart.
26:58Look at how pretty that ridge is over there.
27:01Oh, yeah.
27:02You could, like, dwell underneath.
27:04You would have had Native Americans doing that for thousands of years.
27:07Yeah.
27:08Woo-hoo!
27:10Woo-hoo!
27:10Woo-hoo!
27:12Woo-hoo!
27:12Woo-hoo!
27:18Wow, look.
27:22Remains of a tarantula, look.
27:25Yeah, that's a dead tarantula in that bit of water.
27:36I'm gonna say she's not so bad.
27:39Have you ever eaten a tarantula?
27:42I'm sure I have.
27:46You know, they say when you sleep, you'll be eating spiders in your sleep.
27:49Ha-ha-ha-ha.
27:54No.
27:54That is a tarantula.
27:55That is a tarantula, look.
27:57That is a real tarantula.
27:58Ha-ha-ha!
28:02There you go, your first tarantula.
28:03Good job.
28:04I think I've eaten this before.
28:09Okay, I'm following you.
28:15Tucking behind me.
28:16We're gonna get into the shade here.
28:18Just have a little sit down.
28:20Here, when you sit here, I'll make a little hole for you.
28:26Where did you first figure that you can actually use your comedy and do it maybe as a living?
28:34I got my first gig, like real gig, when I was 21.
28:39And, uh, I bombed.
28:41Absolutely horrible.
28:42Uh, but they still pay me my $50.
28:45Yeah.
28:45For 15 minutes.
28:46Did that knock your confidence, though?
28:48At first, I was like, oh, maybe I shouldn't do this for a living.
28:52And then they still handed me my money.
28:53I said, uh, I'm gonna do this for a living.
28:56I just gotta make sure I do better at it.
28:57Yeah.
28:58Um, and, uh, then I just started getting on stage, like, every night and writing every day.
29:03By the time I was 21, I knew I could make a living.
29:07And then you got an Emmy for SNL.
29:09That must have been a moment.
29:11Oh, my goodness.
29:12Let me tell you something.
29:13Being on SNL, dream come true.
29:16To be the first African-American female stand-up comedian to host SNL, after all those years
29:24of it being on the air, honored and privileged, and my Emmy is in my bed.
29:31You earned it.
29:32Right next to my Grammy.
29:33And when I get a man, I'll take the trophies out the bed.
29:37You've earned them.
29:44What would you say the job that kind of changed your life was?
29:50I don't know.
29:51I feel like my life is changing every day.
29:54Yeah.
29:54I don't think it's the jobs that changed my life.
29:56I think it's the mentality that changed my life.
30:00Like, people would say, oh, Girl's Trip is the movie that made her famous and that put her on the
30:04map.
30:04And that's the thing that, you know, is Girl's Trip.
30:08I wouldn't say that.
30:09I would say when I got to be on the Arsenio Hall show.
30:13Come on here, Tiffany!
30:15Like, I always believed in myself, but that's when I, like, I knew that the little girl in me, Little
30:21T, is going to see all her dreams come true.
30:25Mm-hmm.
30:26Like, everything I had been praying to God for.
30:28Mm-hmm.
30:30Everything that I, every, every, everything I just knew.
30:33Little T always dreamed of that.
30:35Like, I dreamed of that when I was freaking nine years old.
30:38Mm-hmm.
30:39Like, taking care of my sisters and brothers.
30:41Being homeless a couple times, then wondering, like, am I even going to make it past 18?
30:46Am I even going to live?
30:47Because I was seeing people die and stuff all the time.
30:49So, like, to get to there, I knew in that moment, walking on there and then when Arsenio Hall picked
30:56me up and I licked his face and he tasted like Ovaltine.
30:59Mm-hmm.
31:01I was like, I could die right now.
31:03I would be okay with that.
31:05Uh, it was, but God has a mission for me.
31:08I have a, I have things I have to accomplish here on this planet, so I'm going to be here
31:11for a long time.
31:12And I got so, so many more dreams and so many more things for Little T to accomplish and for
31:18grown-up Tiffany to accomplish.
31:20Tiffany, she's learnt in life to cope with these things and difficult things and choose positivity and choose humor.
31:29and choose to keep going, you know, despite, like, some overwhelming obstacles for her at a young age that no
31:37human should ever have to go through.
31:39And, I don't know, I really admire her.
31:49Soak it in.
31:51I would have been living out here, but on this particular day I would have stayed under the cage.
31:57Well, you know what they say, only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun.
32:03It's hot, it's dusty, everything's fighting against you, but we're going to push on, keep moving, get out of here.
32:11Okay, so, that is where we've got to get to.
32:14This is like a rock climb.
32:16Yeah, this is a climb.
32:19We've arrived at the base of a 200-foot cliff, but it's more intense than at first glance.
32:26The cliff face is sheer sandstone and extends another 300 feet down below.
32:33So, we need to be methodical getting up and do not look down.
32:39I know it's, like, pretty exposed here on this edge, but once we're over the top of that, then we
32:44can follow the rim of that canyon all the way.
32:47All right.
32:50So, we've reached the base of this climb.
32:52We want to push on and get to the top of this.
32:54It is pretty steep.
32:55I've pre-placed a couple of ropes down this, and we're going to use these climbing tools called dewmars.
33:00This is a dewmars.
33:01Uh-huh.
33:02This slides up it, but it won't come down.
33:05Yeah.
33:05But we can also lean on this.
33:07Rest.
33:08Yeah.
33:08And then we go again.
33:10But it's pretty committing, because once we're on this, if you look to the right-hand side there, it just
33:14goes straight off here.
33:16Five, 600 feet sheer down.
33:18So, I'm going to go first.
33:20Okay.
33:20I'm going to get to the top.
33:21I'll shout down.
33:23He can walk first, because it's ladies first.
33:26Keep looking up, just like she does in life, and keep aiming up and keep moving up.
33:31Don't be scared.
33:33You got it, Bear.
33:33You know how to climb.
33:39Look at that.
33:40It's a walk in the park.
33:45She's going to get a workout with this.
33:50Come on, man.
33:51You got this.
33:54Okay.
33:55So, about a third of the way.
34:02Stephanie, quite a long way down there.
34:05Why are you going so slow, Bear?
34:07She's like just talking nonstop.
34:09I can tell that's her way.
34:11Dealing with the nerves.
34:12Whatever it takes, it's good.
34:22Go ahead.
34:23You got this.
34:25He going to take the difficult part.
34:39Okay, Tiffany.
34:40Clip in, and then I got you.
34:46I never have final words.
34:48I'm going to be on this planet a long time.
34:52Let's go.
34:55Back in the 1900s, we had this thing called physical education.
34:59PE.
35:02We used to have to climb a rope straight up until it touched the ceiling and then come down.
35:07I always got an A.
35:08I got the skills to survive.
35:10That's it.
35:11Looking good.
35:12I don't need no pulley to get up there.
35:16I can do it on my own.
35:21That's it. Great.
35:23Ugh.
35:31You okay?
35:34Just cramping.
35:36Do you want me to come down to you?
35:37No, no.
35:38This is normally during this time of month, I'm laying down.
35:46I definitely picked the wrong time of the month to do this .
35:49I wouldn't be out here in this desert today, I tell you that much.
35:54I think she's just in a lot of pain.
35:56You know, it's what the outdoors does.
35:58The wild, it humbles all of us in some ways.
36:01She's just got to keep moving now.
36:03It's her time to dig in a bit.
36:09Keep going, Tiffany.
36:10Keep going.
36:15I'm physically having pain.
36:17I know what that pain is and I know I can move through it, but then emotionally, I'm having a
36:23full argument with myself.
36:25My body is like, no, I don't want to.
36:28Dig in, you got it.
36:30And my mind is like, no, we're moving.
36:35We're going to go up this mountain.
36:40I'm coming!
36:50I'm coming!
37:02I'm coming!
37:06Did not want to be over here I want to stay in the crack yeah don't look down to your
37:11right
37:12I already looked
37:15Push that jumar up high and lean on that
37:18Okay
37:19You got it
37:22Oh my back
37:27Just cramping
37:28Do you want me to come down to you?
37:30No, no this is
37:31Sure?
37:32It's girl
37:32I got it
37:34Give me a second
37:36Now it's just pain management and emotional management hold up. I'm coming all the way
37:41That's what pain is about though, right? You'll learn so much. Just move through that fear though
37:47Don't sit in it move through it. Don't worry about that Hattie. Don't worry about that. Don't worry about that
37:54Sorry, I had to cut myself out a little bit. That's good. I know you're digging deep
38:04Great job Tiffany
38:11Great job Tiffany
38:34Endometriosis is inflammation of the uterus.
38:37It's very painful.
38:39And, um...
38:40Yeah, the climbing up the rock part, that's easy.
38:44It's what's going on on the inside. That's hard.
38:47Take my arm. Let's keep going.
38:49The emotion that is bubbling up is me processing my pain.
38:53Like, hey, we're stronger than this,
38:56and this has been happening every month since we was 13.
39:00You can't do this.
39:01You should be proud of yourself.
39:02I did it.
39:04I did it.
39:08It's what I love about the wild.
39:10It just shows the real person eventually,
39:13and it's real life, and the outdoors does it.
39:16It's humbling. It does it to us all.
39:19Tiffany has been a trooper throughout this journey.
39:22It's truly inspiring to see someone push through
39:26and overcome so much.
39:28Her strength and heart is incredible to witness.
39:35If you could go back and speak to that young Tiffany,
39:38what would you go back and say to her?
39:41I would say everything you've got to go through
39:44is so that you can do really amazing things.
39:47All those dreams that you had, you can do them all,
39:51but you're going to have to go through some hard stuff.
39:53You will cry a lot.
39:56Just push through no matter what.
39:58I think that's what I've seen in you all this journey.
40:01You know, it's not not feeling fear.
40:03It's like finding a way through it.
40:04And as you said, keep moving forward.
40:06Keep moving forward.
40:07Be a never-give-upper.
40:09Never give up.
40:09Which you are.
40:10Yeah, I never give up. I am relentless.
40:12And has that been key, do you think, in your career as well?
40:15The key has been the relationships that I've developed
40:17and how I've been able to identify good people.
40:21Yeah.
40:22Anything is possible.
40:23Trust the right people.
40:24Like, I believe in you, and so if you're doing it,
40:27then I know I can do.
40:28Yeah.
40:29If you're willing to take the chance,
40:30then I know I can take the chance.
40:31Yeah.
40:31I believe in you.
40:33And different people for different seasons, you know?
40:35Exactly.
40:36Everybody can't do every job.
40:38Yeah.
40:38Yeah.
40:39I need 15 hugs a day.
40:41Yeah.
40:41I am 13 hugs short.
40:48Let's fire the smoke.
40:52There you go.
40:57Tiffany is such a live wire
41:00and a ball of positivity.
41:02But she's also someone who hasn't had an easy pass.
41:05And I think if you can learn to turn difficult things
41:08into beautiful things
41:10and hard experiences into positive attitudes,
41:14there's nothing that you can't do.
41:16And Tiffany is testament to that.
41:18Smooth.
41:20Yeah, that's good.
41:21She is still full of dreams and ambitions,
41:24you know, heart in her sleep, tears in her eyes,
41:26and it's no surprise she is taking the world by storm.
41:31Tiffany, you are a remarkable lady.
41:35I'm proud of you.
41:36What a superstar.
41:38What a superstar.
41:40Thank you for that awesome experience.
41:42Oh, you're a great lady.
41:48This adventure has been an amazing experience
41:51for me personally.
41:52Oh, he's now as a soldier, you know,
41:54but now I feel like I could really do it if I wanted to.
41:57Like, I could really be in the military if I wanted to,
42:00if I had to, like, climb stuff and jump out of planes
42:02and all that.
42:03I think I could do it.
42:08She ready.
42:09And that's how I feel.
42:10I feel like the epitome of my slogan.
42:13She ready.
42:15I surprise myself every day in every way.
42:18Time and time again.
42:24Bear, I'm so proud of you.
42:26And I'm so glad God made you.
42:28I mean, without you, I wouldn't be out here in this desert today,
42:32I tell you that much.
42:36You're a great teacher.
42:37Awesome guy.
42:39Kind of cute too, but you married, so you ugly.
42:42That's just the way it goes for me.
42:43As soon as I know you're married, you become ugly.
42:47No shade.
42:49Just love.
42:50Mwah!
42:56Africa brings the spice.
