00:00All right, according to multiple reports, the Giants signed free agent defensive tackle Shelby Harris.
00:05And, you know, it may not be a sexy signing to fill the massive hole left in the interior of
00:11the defensive line from the Dexter Lawrence trade,
00:14but at least they were addressing the unit and he's a part of the equation to the answer.
00:19Remember, this is the dude that called Juwan Jennings a not-so-nice word after the Browns beat the 49ers
00:26in December.
00:26So I love the dog that he has in him, but come on, let's be honest.
00:31It's hard to replace the void that's been left by a three-time Pro Bowler with just one player.
00:36In fact, it's damn near impossible, especially when you had or you have multiple holes that you had to fill
00:42and upgrades to make to the roster throughout free agency with limited amounts of money and with three premium picks
00:50in the NFL draft.
00:51Now, they did miss out on Ohio State defensive tackle Caden McDonald in the second round, but they grabbed Colton
00:57Hood, a corner, with the 37th overall pick,
01:01and they thought he was the best player on the board going into the second round.
01:05So I think that they're going to make another move or make some sort of signing to create as much
01:10competition in the interior defensive line as possible.
01:14You have to. The run game has been absolutely atrocious over the last couple of years, and that's with Sexy
01:21Dexy.
01:22Harris had 32 tackles in a sack in 17 games with the Browns last season, and he's been in the
01:28league since 2014.
01:29So there goes that veteran body that can pick up the playbook on day one,
01:34and a guy that Denard Wilson can just plug into the interior of that line from the jump.
01:39Now, they drafted Bobby Jamison Travis, who's a run stopper from Auburn.
01:44They got him in the sixth round, and then you also have Rory Robertson Harris, Sam Roberts, Darius Alexander, and
01:51Elijah Chapman for the up front.
01:53But let's be honest and no disrespect, none of those names are as sexy as Dexy.
01:59They're not going to command a league-high double-team rate like Dexter Lawrence was drawing.
02:04So because of that, on paper, this unit has the biggest question mark surrounding it going into the spring and
02:12going into training camp.
02:14OTAs aren't really going to tell us anything because there's a limit on how physical you can actually get when
02:20you're practicing with just helmets and jerseys.
02:23So I expect John Harbaugh to have one of those old-school and physical-type training camps down in West
02:31Virginia
02:32because you're only going to know what you're getting out of the trenches when you put the pads on.
02:38We won't know what this unit is and what it can potentially be until the joint practices and the preseason
02:44games.
02:45So Shelby Harris now anchors a defensive line with a lot of question marks surrounding it,
02:50and somebody needs to come out of camp as a guy that defensive coordinator Denard Wilson can count on
02:56to create some sort of chaos in the trenches or rundowns.
