00:00this week unfortunately we got a lot of scandals percolating here so let's get to the very latest
00:04with sam sam thanks for coming on the show this is a very big one texas tech probably
00:08with their arms up like we how did we know that this was going to happen we had no clue
00:12now they're
00:13looking for a quarterback i think brendan soresby has checked into a treatment program for gambling
00:18addiction seemingly placing a lot of micro bets and doing some other things that he wasn't supposed
00:24to be doing i don't know how this is going to work i'm sure that the the school is going
00:27to
00:27want to just figure it out and make it work sam uh but yeah i'm just not sure that that's
00:33going
00:33to actually happen here i'm guessing some sort of fine probably even furthermore a suspension if not
00:38a ban of some kind could be coming yeah it's it's a tricky situation especially for texas tech when
00:46you talk about soresby who was the number one transfer portal player entering this year
00:50projected to earn about five million dollars in nil and then it comes out obviously before the season
00:56even starts before he even takes a snap uh that he's under an investigation with the ncaa for
01:02allegedly betting uh you mentioned micro bets uh that i believe were flagged on games and uh when he
01:09was a member of cincinnati football betting on uh the reds supposedly uh as well as a flurry of bets
01:15on
01:15other sports uh including from uh when he was a member of the indiana hoosiers uh all the way in
01:21his redshirt year back so um if you're texas tech you're like why did we just pay this guy five
01:27mil
01:28to be our starting quarterback and it comes out now that he was gambling way before he was even at
01:34the
01:34school again important to note that ncaa rules prohibit really uh sports betting on any kind of
01:41sport uh if you're a d1 athlete that includes professional sports so you can't go to the baseball
01:46game and place tons of micro bets uh they were trying to change that rule last year but they
01:51suddenly stopped changing it because you had all these scandals come out so it kind of reminds me
01:55honestly of the the terry rozier situation uh with the nba where he's currently uh under investigation
02:01for allegedly uh rigging bets on games obviously that's different but that happened when he was a
02:07member of the charlotte hornets then the miami heat traded for him and then it came out after that
02:12that he had you know allegedly done this activity while he was a member of the hornets and the league
02:17had already investigated it so if you're texas tech you're kind of like why did we you know basically
02:22buy something that um was already kind of damaged goods or somebody knew about this so i think that
02:27will be the really interesting thing to watch here is how that kind of changes um the response or uh
02:33the
02:34penalty that comes down you know he could lose up to his entire eligibility uh for betting on a sport
02:40that uh you play in uh the minimum bet if you bet on um that is about 50 percent but
02:46if it's a team
02:47that you're on it's it's way more so this might be a case where they try to make an example
02:51of him
02:52and of course you'll have a lot of people talk about you know he wasn't betting against himself or
02:57he wasn't you know doing any people make a ton of money off of betting um why can't the players
03:03do it
03:03so it really is a more nuanced conversation this kind of brings to light but again not great news if
03:08you're texas tech and i imagine it's just one of those cases where it's supposedly technology
03:13working the way it's supposed to catching bad actors but then you know if you're texas tech
03:18and the ncaa you have to kind of deal with the results and the headlines as they come
03:21you
