00:00AccuWeather's 2026 summer forecast is in, and we're looking at another slow transition for the northeast and Great Lakes.
00:07Seems like that's been the case over the last couple of seasons, but where it will be faster will be
00:12the southwest.
00:13The southwest has already seen in March and early April some heat, early heat,
00:19and it looks like we'll see more heat building as we get into late May and early June across the
00:25southwest.
00:25Dryer conditions coming in as well. As far as the outlook for temperatures across the nation,
00:31temperatures running well above average across the country.
00:34The one area I think you're going to see that more often happening is the northwest, the Great Basin region,
00:39and even into the central Rockies, four to five, maybe six degrees above average for a 90-day outlook is
00:45what we're expecting in this region.
00:47So expect some 90-degree heat, and some of these big cities, even the northwest, could hit 90-plus.
00:54Taking a look at severe weather for the summer season, the area to watch is over the Plains states.
01:00Looks like Tornado Alley in June will be the area to watch, especially from Oklahoma up towards Nebraska,
01:07and then extending east even into late June and July across the Ohio Valley again.
01:13June looks very active. When you look at the averages, it does look like it could be actually above average
01:18on tornado activity.
01:20So the middle of the country right now looks busy, generally because of higher pressure in the Rockies,
01:25allowing disturbances to come over top into that region, and a good flow coming out of the western Gulf of
01:30Mexico.
