00:00Somebody told me that her doctor friend saw a video of us interviewing a doctor who was making minimum $64

00:10And she realized that she could never get to that stage, so she just quit being a doctor and then

00:15she entered corporates.

00:21That is the kind of impact created by Malaysian Pay Gap, a platform founded in 2022 by Pristine Devko.

00:30With over 280,000 Instagram followers, you'd likely come across their viral posts promoting salary transparency in Malaysia.

00:38It all began when the founder, a freelance photographer, grew frustrated with the system.

00:44I reached out to some fashion brands, pitched my portfolio, they liked it, but they offer very low.

00:51So I'm just wondering, is this the market price?

00:54So I asked around a lot of photographers, they refused to tell me what is the, how much I should

00:59charge.

01:00So I just thought that was quite foolish.

01:01So why are you giving all the upper hand to clients instead of your peers?

01:06I talked to a few friends about it and then they all told me, this is just how Malaysia is

01:09like.

01:10They don't talk about money, they don't talk about earning.

01:12So I think ever since I heard that, there's just this undigested flame within my system, in my core.

01:22I couldn't sleep for a few days.

01:24Yeah.

01:24And I just feel like, okay, I need to do something about it.

01:28Within days, MPG went viral.

01:31With thousands submitting anonymous salary data across industries.

01:35What started as a social media movement now also operates as an HR tech startup

01:40that provides real-time salary benchmarking tools for both employees and employers.

01:47I think it's really good to see that after we came to be,

01:51there are a whole lot more pages that is information knowledge-based.

01:56For Malaysian PayGap, the biggest, the longest long-term goal,

02:00we hope to be an accreditation institution for companies

02:07to check on their wage health, to check on their benefits,

02:12to see if they actually provide a fair workplace for everybody.
