00:00I did see Mike Tomlin this weekend, his first appearance on NBC, who of course replaced Tony
00:07Dungy, Football Night in America, and I'm just seeing online right now that Chris Sims, my old
00:13pal, out at NBC for Football Night in America as well. What's interesting about that one is that
00:19Chris Sims is the one that announced it, and then NBC had to confirm it. So it looks like major,
00:25major changes for Football Night in America. Look, we all agreed Tony Dungy had to go, and
00:32while not everyone might think Mike Tomlin's a replacement, I do. I think Mike Tomlin, and
00:37I think we have to show some grace there. He's never done it before, but I think Mike Tomlin
00:42is the type of dude who's got the personality. I think he will grow into it and be very, very
00:47good at it. I agree with you. Look, I've known Chris Sims for a long time. I gave him his
00:51first
00:51shot to do radio. He filled in for Boomer when Boomer and I were together at WFAN, and
00:56I do call him a friend, but buh-bye. Had to go, I guess.
01:02Yeah, that show of the pre- and post-shows, to me, that was my least favorite.
01:09Yeah. Is Mike Florio out too? Like, I wonder.
01:13That's a rumor that's out there.
01:14Because if you're NBC, look, and I like Chris Sims a lot, and I think he's very talented.
01:19He is talented.
01:20I think Chris will get a job in about a Finstant, which is quicker than an instant, as you know.
01:23Mm-hmm.
01:25Like, Mike Florio's connected at the hip to NBC.
01:28Yeah.
01:28NBC owns the podcast and the website, your Pro Football Talk. That's an NBC Sports product.
01:33Now, they paid for it.
01:34Mm-hmm.
01:35So, if you're saying goodbye to Chris Sims, are you also saying goodbye to Mike Florio,
01:41and are you getting out of that business altogether as well?
01:44Or are you saying to those two guys, we love what you do on the podcast.
01:47We love the, I guess it's also a TV show, I think.
01:50Yeah, they show it on NBC Sports.
01:52I think it's on NBC Sports as well.
01:54And I think NBC, prior to this, has made a lot of really smart moves.
02:00Like, some people think I discovered John Fanta.
02:03John Fanta was great.
02:04He didn't need me to discover him.
02:06Mm-hmm.
02:06And NBC made a great decision, I thought, bringing John Fanta in.
02:10I think bringing Mike Tomlin in.
02:11I agree.
02:12And here with Tony Dungy.
02:13Mm-hmm.
02:13Another really good decision by NBC.
02:15I think hiring Bob Costas as the studio guy.
02:18Great.
02:19Great decision.
02:20Baseball, great decision.
02:20I think they've largely gotten a B-plus to an A in their basketball coverage.
02:25Yep.
02:25That halftime show's gotten better and better and better.
02:28Yep.
02:28So, I think NBC has done a great job in the last year.
02:32I like Chris Sims.
02:34I also am one of those guys that likes Mike Florio.
02:37But if you're going to replace him, it'd be very interesting to see who you replace them with.
02:43Because I assume it's going to be younger people.
02:45Right?
02:46You would think so.
02:47Not that Chris is old.
02:48He's in his 40s.
02:49Right.
02:49The other part is...
02:50And Mike's got to be, about my age, got to be in his 50s, right?
02:53Right.
02:53And because they purchased it, they wedged in a lot of pro football-focused things into the broadcast.
02:59Yeah.
03:00And a lot of ex-players thought it was problematic.
03:03And you've talked about this in the past.
03:05For example, the year Saquon Barkley goes for over 2,000 yards.
03:08And it's clearly the best running back.
03:10Pro football-focused, I think, had him 12th.
03:12That's Chris Collinsworth's company.
03:14Yeah.
03:14Yeah.
03:14And that's also connected.
03:16And Florio's been the top guy with them.
03:18He's been the mouthpiece for them.
03:20Got it.
03:21Perhaps this is the first step of separating from someone else.
03:23So, I feel for you, Chris.
03:24We've all been there before.
03:26And I'm sure that he will land on his feet and be just fine.
03:30I think he's very good at what he does, actually.
03:31I know he's not for everybody.
03:33But who is these days, right?
03:35So, I do think Chris Sims will figure it out.
03:38And I've got to say this.
03:40Every time I hear the name Chris Sims, it reminds me of when he walked out on dinner at the
03:44Super
03:44Bowl 10 years ago and never came back.
03:47Okay.
03:48We were in San Francisco.
03:50We were in San Francisco.
03:51Uh-huh.
03:51I was always responsible for making all the dinner reservations.
03:54Okay.
03:54Because that's, like, my thing, right?
03:56Yeah.
03:56And I asked a simple question.
03:59What's the best steak restaurant in San Francisco?
04:02And someone tells us, you got to go to this place called Prime Rib.
04:05I'm like, how could I go wrong?
04:06It's called Prime Rib.
04:07Been in San Francisco for 100 years.
04:09We have 20 people at dinner.
04:11I'm sitting next to Chris Sims.
04:13On my right, my wife is sitting across from me, okay?
04:16Okay.
04:1620 of us at a popular steakhouse Super Bowl week.
04:20Unbeknownst to me and everybody else at the table, Prime Rib, the restaurant in San Francisco,
04:27only serves prime rib.
04:30Okay.
04:30There's no menu.
04:32There's no, hey, I'd like the swordfish.
04:35We don't have any.
04:35Hey, I'd like some chicken.
04:37We don't have it.
04:38Can I get some broccoli?
04:39We don't have it.
04:40But they sell a salad that everybody gets.
04:44Okay.
04:44Nothing special about it.
04:45And you get to choose one inch, two inches, or three inches.
04:49Your cut of the Prime Rib that an old guy in a tuxedo comes by the table and slices.
04:54So when we hear that, Chris says, I got to run to the bathroom.
04:58Uh-huh.
04:58Never came back from the bathroom.
05:01So we start calling him a half hour later.
05:03He doesn't eat meat.
05:04I'm like, are you all right?
05:04He goes, I'm back at the hotel.
05:06I'm like, we're in the middle of dinner.
05:08He goes, I don't eat prime rib.
05:11And that's all they offer.
05:12So see you next time for dinner.
05:14Well, he could have just said that, though.
05:15Just walked out of the restaurant.
05:16But he could have said it.
05:17Of course he could have said it.
05:18See, Phil Simpson gets on my nerves.
05:21Which one?
05:22That one.
05:23That one.
