00:01How's Green?
00:03Oh, she's happily reading a book.
00:05She practically pushed me out of the house to come to your aid.
00:09What's going on?
00:11I have a town hall coming up.
00:13I know. It's been well publicized.
00:17You have an incredible campaign manager in Shonda.
00:21She's a powerhouse.
00:22Yes, but...
00:24Not to mention your husband,
00:25who's an expert at asking the tough questions,
00:29and therefore he's adept at avoiding them.
00:32Very true.
00:33I assume Smitty's been prepping you.
00:36He has.
00:38So, where's the problem?
00:40So this carefully choreographed subterfuge is a waste of time.
00:45You really know what this is about.
00:47Trying to keep me from worrying about your grandmother.
00:51That was obviously a bad idea.
00:56Yes.
00:58Martin.
01:00No matter where I am or what I'm doing,
01:04my heart and my mind are with her.
01:09Knock, knock.
01:10Tracy.
01:12I wasn't expecting you.
01:14Well, I know how much you love surprises.
01:16You're forgiven.
01:19What was that?
01:20New jewelry?
01:21Oh, no.
01:23New hardware.
01:25It's the chemo port the doctors put in.
01:27Of course.
01:28It goes under the skin.
01:30It makes me feel a little, I don't know, bionic,
01:33but they say it's less wear and tear when they administer the chemo.
01:37That's gotta hurt.
01:39I hardly notice it now.
01:42Stop worrying. I'm fine.
01:44How are you?
01:45Can I get you something?
01:46Um, actually,
01:48I'd like to spend a few minutes with an old friend.
01:51Fierce woman.
01:52Name's Anita Williams.
01:53You may have met her once upon a time.
01:58Dices of her friend.
01:58Mom, I hide it.
02:04Please take care.
02:07The living room too.
02:08You may have never had a night in a hospital怪υ Wieck.
02:08No Obatherary House was alleged from him.
02:14All the Everything in the House were made.
02:14Cause foruction or something.
02:14Or not it meals.
02:16It'sCH.
02:16The living room.
02:16They were always located now and schools.
02:18And you can go quick to see pictures about biiliterun beats.
02:25Well, you can possibly have seen fire.
02:29it's about time had my hands full well that's a loaded smile if i ever saw one
02:37what can i say i'm a sucker for a pretty face yeah why do i get the feeling we're not
02:42talking
02:42about your wife we all can't walk the straight and narrow i'd be out of a job so would you
02:49what'd you need that promise the chief of police made to the mayor about cleaning up the streets
02:56nothing more than lip service if you ask me i would prefer if the street cleaning didn't happen
03:03in my neighborhood just yet so if there's any change in the status quo i'd like to know about
03:08it beforehand a deal's a deal no matter how many promises elon makes a mayor i got you back good
03:16to know to be safe you may want to choose more peaceful solutions when settling disputes
03:22that was a one-time thing right and the long-term fling doesn't even know you're the reason she's
03:31a widow tonight drinks are on me commission just came in for my latest sale congratulations
03:38another score for you and your heartless boyfriend i beg your pardon forgive me that wasn't fair
03:45what's wrong you've barely cracked a smile since we got here
03:51nicole you're scaring me what is it you know you can talk to me about anything
03:57i don't want to talk about this i want to talk about anything other than blood work and labs and
04:03cancer or the possibility that i have a gene that will uproot my entire life
04:10this is different in a good way i'm glad you're approved like anybody can bring the fireworks and
04:16electricity and non-stop excitement really anybody but it takes a true gentleman who knows how to also
04:23bring the easygoing romance surprising me with my favorite milkshake i gotta admit i'm liking it
04:34good look i know you said you wanted to keep it casual between us diva but i'm really really feeling
04:42you in a way i never expected i've missed you another nice surprise am i doing too much does that
04:52scare you
04:53no
04:56okay yeah sometimes i get in my head about it but in the spirit of all honesty you should know
05:06that i miss you too
05:12i don't see why you're so dead set against doing the cotillion thing because it's just another
05:16outdated elitist ritual i don't need in my life but if your father wants you to do it then that
05:21is
05:21reason enough to say no i don't know samantha's pretty geeked about it she wants to master etiquette
05:28and she wants to teach all her friends about it well yeah that's because you guys haven't been
05:32bombarded since birth with all these weird performative trappings of wealth it gets exhausting
05:38my great-grandmother started coaching samantha with some stuff but but that was before we found out
05:43she was sick and i'm not sure we didn't have time for all the meetings and classes now
05:48well at least that's one benefit of your great-grandmother's diagnosis
05:52remember what i said about etiquette maybe you could use the classroom too
05:56so the lady missed me maybe a little probably a lot
06:01after everything we did christmas and new year's eve
06:04i couldn't get you off my mind either stop
06:07i mean it you're gorgeous smart funny so you got my head all messed up
06:19don't tell me you're shy all of a sudden
06:22it's the things you say
06:24what you don't believe me
06:27well after thinking that my father didn't want me for so long
06:30then believing my mother's warped version of events
06:33and fighting for my place here
06:36i guess it's weighed on my self-esteem over time
06:39i'm still figuring out who i am
06:42so you're sort of undefined
06:44you get to become anything you want
06:46and that's on top of already being the coolest chick i ever met
06:50you're such a hype man
06:51i'm a truth teller
06:53and i'm not letting up until you believe every word for yourself
06:59maybe you should worry about your own tangled love life
07:02and not what's going on with me
07:08the minute that pretty widow starts wondering about that tragic drunk driving accident
07:12she won't
07:14i got skin in this too
07:16and whenever my retirement starts
07:18i'm not spinning it behind bars
07:20you already took care of this marcel
07:22don't second guess yourself now
07:25the video footage
07:26of me and doug the night he died
07:29handled
07:30erased
07:32have a little faith
07:34rule number one
07:36trust no one
07:38rinse and repeat
07:42it's dead
07:43and buried
07:44all right
07:45vanessa is a million times happier than she ever was
07:49with that mess of a drunk
07:51she deserved better
07:54and now she has it
07:56so what is next since you've been tested
07:59you wait
08:00that's it
08:01can't you put a rush on it
08:03after all the time and money your family's donated to that hospital
08:08this test looks at your genes in such detail
08:11it takes more time than a standard blood test
08:13and the labs are so backed up right now
08:15people are waiting weeks for their results
08:17no you're not some people
08:18your name holds power
08:20forget dangling a carrot
08:21you need to grab a stick
08:22tell them the deprees will not donate another red sun
08:24until you all have the answers you need
08:27come on vanessa
08:28that's not right
08:32waiting has to be hell
08:34and the worst part is
08:36we're actually the lucky ones
08:39i am really enjoying this tea
08:42are you sure i can't get you something
08:43no thanks i'm fine
08:46so you're starting chemo day after tomorrow
08:48that's the plan
08:52mmm
08:53rowena is making her signature berry crumble
08:56you should stay for dinner and join us
08:58she also makes a homemade whipped cream
09:00that she plops on top
09:02it sounds delicious
09:03and you know we should order some ice cream too
09:06do you still love mint chocolate chip
09:07forget me
09:08is going overboard on sweets a smart move for you
09:12so close to starting chemo
09:13does it really matter
09:15i am going to eat what i want
09:17and spend time with my friend
09:20maybe we can ask vernon to take us to a club after dinner
09:24and tomorrow we can
09:25anita your whole life is turning upside down
09:28and you're all about eating dessert and ice cream
09:32what's your point
09:34this diagnosis came out of nowhere
09:37you not only are facing your own mortality
09:40but you had to tell your whole family
09:42that because of your faulty dna
09:44they could be at death's doorstep with you
09:46now you couldn't care less about whining and dining me
09:51or stuffing your face with berry crumble
09:54not when you're terrified and grief stricken
10:02well that was an ugly thing to say
10:05i never mentioned one word about
10:08feeling guilty
10:09now how can you not
10:11having the gene that could change your daughter's lives
10:14that could change their kids lives
10:18well life you got to take the bitter with the sweet
10:22they also inherited my gene for creativity for music and fashion
10:26but because of you having the gene does not necessarily mean you will get the disease
10:32and even that isn't a death sentence
10:34it just means more screenings and taking a little more care
10:36and living under the constant threat of
10:38i i i really don't know what the threat to my future health and happiness is here
10:45i mean is it the cancer
10:46or is it you
10:48i am your friend
10:49well when does the friendliness kick in
10:52you're taking this moment as an opportunity to what kick me while i'm down
10:56that's not it
10:58i'm waiting on you
11:00waiting on me for what
11:01to give me the look
11:03there was always a look you'd get when we were on stage
11:06wrong key
11:07standing in the wrong light
11:08or somebody forgot to wear a slip
11:11all it took was that one look
11:13and sharon and i were right there
11:15had your back doing what was necessary
11:18no matter how insane or difficult the task
11:22well i really don't know what you want from me
11:26i want you to wake up and see what's in front of you
11:30months of difficult situations you've never had to navigate
11:35times when you'll be too tired to ask for the help you need
11:38you need help and we want to help you
11:41so stop pretending that this will be easy
11:43and that you've got it all under control
11:46because the truth is
11:48you don't
11:50i can write a speech that changes people's minds
11:55moves them to fund a dream
11:59but i can't stop what's happening to the woman i love
12:03i know
12:06she's half my heart
12:09her body's betraying her and
12:12there's not a damn thing i can do to stop it
12:16you would tell me to focus on what i can control
12:20which is
12:22i would appreciate your insight on my campaign
12:25we have a full slate of events leading up to mlk day
12:28proving that you have good instincts
12:31you don't need my help
12:33but you're going to give it to me anyway right
12:37you're saying there's a difference in anita and your typical cancer patient
12:41true enough but lucky
12:45think about it vanessa
12:47we have friends in high places
12:49anita dupree will get the best treatment her no holds barred insurance and hefty bank account can buy
12:55but the people who don't have access to the same physicians and care
12:59aren't so fortunate
13:00cancer is expensive
13:03there are the tests and prescriptions and the price of the treatment and the time it takes away from work
13:09here goes my friend
13:11thinking about others instead of herself
13:14oh i have definitely shed my share of tears and had
13:17a few anxious moments since finding out the news
13:20mostly worrying about my children
13:22but even in all of that fear
13:26i can't forget how blessed we are
13:28i think about the people who don't have
13:31our financial resources or or a strong support system
13:35or access to proper care
13:39can you imagine how hopeless they must feel
13:43sounds like you're going to do something about that
13:45while our family's foundation supports many medical charities
13:49we don't have any initiatives focused on cancer
13:51it's time we did
13:53you really are a saint
13:55if you think i am being completely altruistic
13:58i am not
13:59i have made what i know to be an irrational promise to the universe
14:04that if my mother survives
14:06i'm going to pay it forward
14:07think that'll work
14:10i've got to do something to give myself hope
14:18can i give you some unsolicited advice
14:20always
14:21do what i did
14:22so many nights after doug died
14:24sit in your car
14:25turn up the radio and scream
14:29highly recommend
14:31doesn't sound half bad
14:33i uh i should get going
14:36i'll give you 24 hours and if i don't hear from you then
14:39you will
14:40and you'll give danny a hug for me
14:42i will
14:43i love you
14:44so much
14:55hey
14:56thank god you answered
14:58are you all right
14:59barely where are you
15:01at the casino what's going on
15:02i don't go anywhere i need to see you
15:05i don't know what to do
15:08is everything all right
15:12i have no idea
15:14i want you to start looking out for her
15:17vanessa
15:19sounds like that business partner with benefits is becoming more than that
15:23just do what i say and stop worrying about the state of my relationship
15:28i want you to keep her safe
15:31in all seriousness
15:32when i came back home
15:33i had some residual relationship trauma
15:35and a path to live down
15:37i wasn't even sure i wanted to stay
15:39but you
15:41what did i do
15:42the impossible
15:44turn me from a brokenhearted man into someone who believes again
15:47crazy how that can happen with the right person
15:50i know what you mean
15:51like you slipped into this place that's been waiting for you
15:56will you tell me when and if i start to take up too much space
16:00i promise
16:02to trust you with my vulnerabilities
16:05same
16:09i say a hawthorne you are chipping away at my armor
16:13making me want to say things that you should keep to myself
16:17good
16:18because i'm all ears
16:21i mean it tyrell
16:22i'm so sorry
16:23i must have sounded like a monster
16:25of course it sucks that your grandmother has cancer
16:27it's not cool to play it off like it was nothing
16:30i know
16:31what i should have said was that
16:32she's so much more important than some stupid dance
16:36samantha would say it's bigger than that
16:38it's a cotillion
16:38that no one would be paying attention to
16:41if the deprees weren't so deeply involved
16:43it's not just my family that's involved
16:45it's
16:46ah they are the most beloved
16:47so of course wannabes pay attention
16:49they are desperate to set up shop and rub elbows with black loyalty because all people ever care about is
16:55their own status
16:56we're not like that
16:58it's not just you it's i cannot wait to just go to college with real people from all sorts of
17:06backgrounds who do not care about what my parents do and think these debutante balls ended in the bridgerton era
17:11you don't have to dip to the other side of the country to meet different people
17:15you could do that here
17:17local vibe global mindset
17:20right
17:22let's run through some scenarios for your town hall
17:25i'll be one of your constituents
17:27hmm
17:28okay mr constituent
17:31state your business
17:33my business is my children
17:36they need better books for the schools
17:39higher wages for the teachers
17:41more accountability
17:43and
17:44nothing is more important than education
17:46my own children attend public schools
17:48but schools are funded locally
17:51just like a politician dodging and weaving
17:53but i am very familiar with the president of the school board
17:57of course you are
17:59dupree's got friends and family everywhere
18:03probably got handed that congressional seat on a silver padder
18:08sir i was elected by the people to govern the people
18:11nepotism is all i'm hearing
18:13i am proud to say
18:15that my grandfather senator vernon dupree taught me everything that i know
18:20maybe vernon dupree
18:22should be a write-in on the primary ballot then
18:26with all his experience and vision
18:29he's got to be itching for a comeback
18:32only he can speak for himself
18:34granddad
18:36what are you saying
18:44joey
18:44you're okay
18:46hey
18:48it's okay i got you
18:49you're safe
18:50just hold on to me
18:52tell me what happened
18:56did someone hurt you
19:00when you called you were so shaken
19:02it scared the hell out of me
19:03i'm sorry
19:05i don't even remember what i said
19:07did you think i was in danger or something
19:11vanessa someone like me tends to pick up enemies along the way
19:15that's why i'm always so concerned about us being out in public
19:17it wasn't like that
19:19i shouldn't have left you hanging
19:21i was just so caught up in the moment
19:22and all i wanted was to be with you
19:26never apologize for leaning on me
19:28but i didn't mean to scare you
19:30my life isn't the one in jeopardy
19:33i don't like the sound of that
19:35how concerned should i be
19:36very
19:38but this isn't about me
19:41it's nicole
19:46am i in the right house
19:48this feels like an ambush
19:50of love
19:51if that's possible
19:53we heard about your mother
19:55we were thinking about peak roses for the occasion but
19:58these remind me of anita moore
20:00full of joy
20:01can't look at them without smiling
20:03sunflowers always searching for the light
20:05i love them
20:07thank you
20:12i told my church there was a family who could use our prayers
20:16i hope i wasn't overstepping
20:17and here i was trying to get through the rest of the day without crying
20:22then we probably shouldn't give her this
20:25ladies
20:36are you serious
20:37there's no way
20:39your favorite chef
20:40she does house calls
20:41you just say the word
20:42we'll make the call
20:43and she'll be here just for you
20:45you didn't have to do this
20:46we know you can feed yourself
20:48we know you can afford this
20:49we just wanted to do something nice for you
20:52after all you've done for us
20:54you are about to be real busy
20:57taking care of everyone else
20:58we want to make sure you're taking care of too
21:02i appreciate you more than you know
21:05we know
21:08mount a political comeback
21:09in the middle of my wife's battle with cancer
21:13never
21:15grand would love that
21:16getting to watch the senator at work
21:18well there's nothing to make me happier than seeing her smile
21:24do you ever miss it
21:25being in office
21:26i used to know how to make things happen
21:32shake a few hands
21:33trade favors
21:34write a speech
21:36and boom
21:37things change for the better
21:39people's lives were improved
21:42and now
21:43now i have to put my trust in
21:47people who have powers
21:48greater than my own
21:51and there's not a blessed thing i can do but wait
21:55well if it means anything
21:57i'm a firm believer that grand will be with us
22:00for a long long time to come
22:03it means the world
22:07and as much fun as i had
22:10ribbing you today
22:12you've become an outstanding congressman
22:16and an even better man
22:19i'm so proud of you
22:21thank you granddad
22:22and the feeling is mutual
22:26well
22:26you certainly have a
22:28prodigious amount of opinions
22:30for someone with no skin in the game
22:32i'm in this too
22:33we're family
22:35are we
22:36are we even friends with what you just said to me
22:41you're right
22:43you're sick
22:44i
22:45should have used
22:47a
22:48better approach
22:49see
22:50that's just it
22:52i am just
22:54anita
22:54i am not a patient
22:56until i walk in that hospital
22:58and start chemo
23:00forgive me for trying to help you
23:02get past this notion of
23:04force strength
23:06tracy
23:08one day you will come visit me
23:11and be ushered in by a nurse
23:13or one of my grandchildren
23:16and when you see me you'll think
23:17how tired she seems
23:19or how weak she looks
23:21and you'll take my hand
23:23and you'll pray with me
23:26but today
23:27is not that day
23:29and my strength
23:30is not a facade
23:32today
23:34i will breathe in the aroma
23:36of rowena's
23:37berry crumble
23:38that i am having for dessert
23:41maybe i'll have seconds
23:43today i will love up on my husband
23:45and let him love up on me
23:47today
23:47i will live for now
23:49well i just want to make sure
23:50that you are allowing yourself
23:52to really feel the weight of this thing
23:54because once you do
23:55you'll know how to fight
23:57and who are you to determine
23:59what that looks like
24:01your results were benign
24:03right
24:04now it could be me having some pie today
24:07and combating
24:09nausea and fatigue tomorrow
24:12it could be
24:13choosing not to wear pink
24:15or ribbons
24:16or doing walks
24:18how i fight this
24:20is my decision
24:22and mine alone
24:24i hear you
24:27make no mistake
24:29i will fight this
24:31however i see fit
24:38i didn't even know how to process it
24:40the anita dupree with breast cancer
24:43nicole
24:44that's really bad news about your friend
24:49listen i have a very complicated relationship with the duprees
24:53that's a diagnosis you wouldn't want to wish on your worst enemy
24:57the added layer of the gene testing
24:59it's like they're
25:00it's like they're waiting for the other shoe to drop
25:03exactly
25:04what kind of purgatory is that
25:05i did my best to keep it together in front of nicole
25:08but i just hate this for them
25:11if something happens to anita
25:14if nicole or danny have the gene
25:17they are good people
25:18they don't deserve this
25:20unfortunately sometimes bad things happen to good people
25:24you know that better than anyone
25:27so do you
25:29yeah but in my case
25:30people would say that sometimes good things happen to bad people
25:35those people are wrong
25:36to think that
25:39you're a good friend to those women
25:41they're lucky to have you in their corner
25:43so am i
25:45you don't want to see who i am
25:46without danny and nicole trust me
25:49they're my closest friends
25:50i i have to do more
25:53i have to do something
25:54well take it from a control freak
25:57this is one situation that's out of your hands
26:03but not out of yours
26:05well if you think there's something i can do i will
26:09what do you need
26:10you could take leslie up on her offer about the clinic
26:18do you remember the day we met
26:20how could i not
26:21was it a job interview
26:22i had gone to the playground with kat
26:25so that she could burn out some energy
26:27and i could get some work done in peace
26:29i took my eyes off of her for one minute
26:31i was having the worst day of my life
26:34and thought i'd go to the park
26:35and rage walk it off
26:36all of a sudden this tiny fireball comes
26:39running out of the playground
26:41straight for the parking lot
26:42next thing i know she's telling this
26:44person come meet my mother
26:46so that we're no longer strangers
26:47and we can play together
26:48fast friends
26:50typical cat
26:51rambunctious brave and friendly
26:53all the things i wasn't feeling that day
26:56i just lost my best friend in a car accident
26:59didn't have anybody to talk to about it
27:01until nicole took a good look at me
27:03and asked how i was doing
27:05it spilled out like waterfalls
27:08turns out i was the one mother on the playground
27:11who was perfectly trained to help
27:13i dropped by the hospital a week later
27:15with flowers
27:16to thank her
27:17and learned that she was looking for a house manager
27:19i didn't have any experience
27:22but knew i liked her
27:23and i could tell she could really use the help
27:25we said we would figure it out together
27:28which is what you did
27:30so guess what we're going to do now
27:35jessica
27:35do you remember my aunt eva
27:36yeah
27:37we met at the pizza night
27:38hey
27:38and this is isaiah
27:40he works at banner curve
27:41nice to meet you
27:43isaiah could you explain to jessica
27:45not everyone that goes to banner curve is from the one person
27:47he's right
27:48i think we got at least one prince
27:50and a couple of princesses enrolled
27:53i'm not helping the situation here
27:54what he means to say
27:56we have students from all economic backgrounds
27:58first generation to legacy kids
28:00if a worthy student wants to attend our university
28:02we find ways to help
28:03see
28:05diverse in every way
28:06you could probably attend all four years
28:08without anyone mentioning a cotillion
28:10oh
28:11samantha said something about a cotillion
28:13during martin's tree trimming party
28:14that sounds elegant
28:15see
28:16she grew up a normal person
28:18and never went to a debutante ball
28:20well i probably would have
28:21if someone had asked
28:23hmm
28:24proving my point
28:25this is a gatekeeping event
28:26it's just another way to keep these outsiders out
28:29i want to forge my own path
28:31so do i
28:33well good
28:34because i'd hate to see you turn into one of those stuffed shirts at the country club
28:37yeah
28:38i could never be one of those guys
28:40i'm my own man
28:45i misjudged the situation
28:47you're damn right you did
28:48this is my life
28:50my family
28:52and our future
28:53you still got that fight in you
28:55we have lived behind these big beautiful gates that were supposed to protect us
28:59keep us protected from god knows what
29:02but not everyone can be shielded from everything
29:06nobody
29:06now this thing
29:09that is trying to destroy us is inside these gates
29:12in this house
29:13inside of me
29:15and now i have to destroy a part of myself so i can live
29:18and you
29:19coming up in here
29:21wanting to blame me
29:22for trying to escape that reality for just one day
29:26i was just trying to find some peace
29:28before the storm hits
29:29i'm sorry
29:30oh you're sorry
29:31well who's going to say sorry to my grandchildren
29:34for the weddings i might miss
29:37for the graduations and the dances and the birthdays that i might not see
29:42who's going to hug my babies and sing to them when they need it
29:45i i want more
29:47damn it
29:48i want to see naomi
29:50shake up the supreme court
29:53i want to see chelsea cat
29:54on runways in milan
29:57i want more evenings with my girls
30:02i want to see
30:04my grandbabies graduate
30:06standing next to martin and smitty
30:09i want more grandbabies
30:13the azaleas in the garden
30:14moonlight walks with vernon
30:17tours with you and sharon
30:19i want it all
30:20i want it all
30:21damn it
30:34jessica and tyrell make a cute couple don't they
30:36they're no isaiah and eva
30:38eva and isaiah you mean
30:40so she agrees
30:42cute has an age limit
30:44cute has a curfew and a chaperone and sweaty palms
30:48right
30:49and eva and isaiah are grown ass adults
30:53with their own apartments and all the privacy they need
30:57oh listen to you inviting me over and this is supposed to be a wholesome date
31:03i don't know what you had in mind
31:05but i'm thinking cards
31:06you play spades
31:08and we've gone from teens to auntie and unc
31:12well i can bring some flavor
31:14i hear strip spades is all the rage right now
31:20you know giving away freebies isn't really my thing
31:24kind of goes against the whole casino kingpin persona
31:28i know we've talked about this before but the circumstances have changed
31:33vanessa i appreciate your concern for your friends but
31:37whatever challenges anita and nicole and danny are facing a free clinic isn't even equipped
31:44to deal with that besides we're talking about the deprees they can afford the best health
31:49care money can buy and nicole and i even talked about how lucky they are to have such
31:53top-notch care at their disposal
31:54well then you see my point
31:56but you putting some good out into the world could still go a long way in helping to balance the
32:01scales
32:01oh if it were only that easy
32:04i believe it could be
32:06good people doing great things for those in need
32:10seriously think of all the lives we could help save the lives we could honor and
32:14i'm not only talking about danny or nicole or any other dupree
32:20doug
32:23well i i don't see the connection
32:27doug wanted to work with volunteer groups like doctors without borders but he never got the chance
32:33the clinic could be a tribute to the man he used to be before
32:38this happened to him
32:42well
32:44if this clinic really means that much to you
32:49how can i say no
32:52you mean it
32:56god let's set a meeting with ms thomas
32:59this will be good joey you won't regret it
33:07i have learned so much from you both and i am so grateful to be a part of your lives
33:14after the way you took care of me during all those weeks in the hospital
33:17you saved her job while she was healing
33:19nicole you gave me hope
33:21so i want that for you too
33:23we're gonna get through this no matter what the tests say
33:29that is the plan
33:33how's jessica
33:38good
33:39great but she still thinks that ucla is the best fit for her
33:45and what do you think
33:47i'm just trying to understand where we're going
33:49we had a good time together but then on the walk home i started feeling
33:55wrong
33:57about what
33:59i'm spending all this time worrying about what's the best college
34:03and trying to forge my own path and great grand has cancer it all feels so
34:08trivial
34:10sickness tends to put things in perspective
34:15and since you guys are all worried about inheriting that gene
34:18and you're lucky enough to be excluded from that
34:22look the last thing your great grandmother wants is for you to be sad about this
34:26or about her she wants you out there having fun laughing with friends making her proud
34:33yeah but no buts you don't get extra points for being miserable
34:39your gran is going to get some of the best care
34:41and while that happens i'll be taking care of you
34:45yeah yes because we are team dupree we bring the party the fun the light and the distraction
34:53when she needs it so it's full throttle happiness you in sure all right i am so sorry i have
35:03no
35:03idea what just happened a broken cup can be replaced you can't took you long enough
35:09excuse me
35:11i was concerned you were repressing your emotions trying to put on a brave face
35:17i didn't know how you really felt
35:19foolish of me to think you didn't have it under control
35:23very
35:24i think what tracy meant was that
35:27you don't need to protect us
35:30or shield your feelings
35:33This isn't something that's happening just to you.
35:36It's happening to all of us.
35:38Because we love you.
35:41Cancer is a bully.
35:43It'll take everything you've got.
35:45And I needed to see my Cabrini Green Girl peek through.
35:52Be careful what you wish for.
35:57We're going to beat this thing.
35:59Yes.
36:00Yes, we are.
36:03And you don't have to hold back from me.
36:06Ever.
36:08I don't know.
36:10Oh, my God.
36:16Oh, my God.
36:20Oh, my God.
