00:05We're searching the Florida Gulf Coast for a home in Bel Air Bluffs.
00:10Here, the powder-soft sand beaches are the perfect place to relax and admire the blue-green waters of the
00:17Intracoastal Waterway.
00:18It's only a short boat ride out to the Gulf of Mexico for speed boating and deep-sea fishing.
00:24Snagging a waterfront piece of this paradise can cost you over $8 million, but this couple is familiar with owning
00:32property on these shores
00:33and is willing to put in the work to create a family getaway for a deal.
00:38Get ready for a beachfront bargain hunt.
00:41You can't do it any better than this.
00:43Renovation.
00:53Beautiful day to be out here, isn't it?
00:54The sun is just shining on the water. It's so beautiful and calm.
00:58See, that's why I like to sit out and listen to music or read, because it's so calm.
01:05I'm Fred. This is my wife, Katrina.
01:08We live in Bel Air Bluffs, Florida.
01:10I really hope we can find a place in this area that we're already accustomed to.
01:16Fred and I have been together for about 15 years.
01:19And it's been a pleasure every day.
01:21Between the two of us, we have eight kids, lots of grandchildren, and it's a big family.
01:26I think it's time to get another place and keep the one that we have now.
01:32That way we can still be comfortable where we are and still have the family around us.
01:37Yeah. Grandkids are getting older. Our kids are visiting more often.
01:42If we get another place, it'll give them the opportunity to come visit us as a group.
01:47Yeah.
01:48We're retired, and what drew us here to Florida was the weather, of course, and the beaches.
01:54We lived in the Maryland, D.C. area for a long time.
01:58To be here in Florida, to see the ocean every day, that's very comforting to me.
02:03Bel Air Bluffs is on the west coast of Florida, and it's very close to St. Pete and Clearwater.
02:09This area is known for its beaches.
02:13People come from all over the world to visit that.
02:16Everything that we could possibly want is very close by.
02:19If we want to go to the beach, if we want to go to the restaurants, if we want to
02:22go to the botanical gardens, or even just walk, we can cross the bridge without even driving.
02:28What would you like to have?
02:29Well, I want it all.
02:33I'd like to have possibly a pool.
02:35I'd like to be near the water.
02:37You know, we got a two-bedroom now.
02:39What if we look for another two-bedroom?
02:43Okay.
02:43Because I've been crunching some numbers, and I'm comfortable with $600,000.
02:48If we look at something in the older condo buildings, we might be able to get something that's affordable.
02:53And if we do, I'm almost sure it's going to be like the one we have now.
02:56Okay.
02:57We have to do some renovations.
02:59Okay.
02:59I just have one request.
03:01Go for it.
03:02Don't do the work yourself.
03:05You know we need contractors.
03:06I'm not 32 anymore.
03:08No, you're not.
03:10I may have one more renovation in me, but we'll see.
03:14We're very close to our family, and we need to enjoy this time together.
03:18And to have a beach home in a very serene place like this, that'll be really close to our heart
03:24to be able to do this.
03:25Our search is on.
03:26Okay?
03:27Good.
03:28All right.
03:28Let's do it.
03:41So, Fred, where are we heading now?
03:43Well, we're going to be going to Harbor Club.
03:45Very nice area.
03:47Close to the dock.
03:48Across the causeway, we have Indian Rocks Beach.
03:52That sounds real convenient.
03:54The unit is two bedrooms, two baths, and it's listed at $580.
04:00It's kind of high on the list of our budget.
04:04You can actually rent it out.
04:06Okay.
04:06So that will help with the cost.
04:09Oh, great.
04:10I'm looking forward to seeing it.
04:12Yep.
04:16Oh, Katrina, here's that view we like.
04:19Oh, what a wonderful view.
04:21Yeah.
04:22And there's my bridge that I like to walk across to the beach.
04:26I like it.
04:26We got the pool up top.
04:28The grandchildren can come over, and the garage is underneath.
04:32That's a real perk here, to have a garage, I'll tell you that.
04:36Let's go see it.
04:38All right, let's do it, babe.
04:43Wow, Katrina, this looks pretty nice just from here.
04:47Yeah, it does.
04:47Look at this kitchen.
04:49Hmm, it's kind of small, needs better lighting or something.
04:54If we open up this wall, it might be appropriate.
04:57You think so?
04:58We've done it before, so yeah.
05:00Oh, wow, look at this.
05:03Ah, no, this is something.
05:04This is great.
05:05Nice big living room space.
05:08I like it.
05:09Beautiful view.
05:10What do you think about these floors?
05:11Well, I think the advantage of having tile floors is we're not worried about spillover or situations like that.
05:18This is an interesting room.
05:20What is it, like a den or something, or sitting room, office?
05:24This room can also accommodate sleeping quarters for grandchildren.
05:29Oh, yeah, and even the renters.
05:31What do you think about this primary bedroom?
05:33Looks okay, but it looks kind of small.
05:37Yeah?
05:37There's a bathroom.
05:39Looks like it's in pretty good shape.
05:41Ooh, ooh, I like the colors.
05:43Nice.
05:44Cabinetry is beautiful, and then the countertops to go with it.
05:47I like it.
05:48Yeah, I like it.
05:48The shower area.
05:50I think the big decision for you is gonna be, do you wanna clean all that glass?
05:54I guess...
05:55That's what I'm looking at.
05:56Yeah.
05:57I don't know.
05:57I guess I'm gonna have to give you some help, right, baby?
05:59Yes, that's for sure.
06:02So what does that lead to?
06:04Oh, okay.
06:05So now it's not so boxy.
06:07Not bad.
06:08I like the way it's laid out.
06:11Bedrooms are on different sides.
06:13Well, let's check it out.
06:15See what's over here.
06:16Look at this.
06:17It's larger than the primary.
06:19Yeah.
06:20Nice view.
06:21Look at this.
06:22I like it.
06:23Oh, yes.
06:24We probably put the bed on this wall so the company would be able to see the water.
06:29Okay.
06:29Real nice.
06:30I like it.
06:31And here is the hallway bathroom.
06:35I can see that some work has been done in here.
06:38The countertops look new.
06:40But you know what?
06:41I was thinking, this might be the bathroom that we keep the 70s look, you know, with the
06:47sliding door.
06:49But that's an old tub.
06:50Hopefully it's okay.
06:51We can do some upgrading.
06:52Yeah.
06:53Yeah.
06:53We'll be able to figure it out.
06:55Okay.
06:56What is this, wallpaper?
06:58Yeah, well, I'm not gonna think about this wallpaper like the bathroom.
07:01It's not something I want from the 70s I wanna keep, okay?
07:05You wanna check out this patio?
07:06Yeah, let's take a look at it.
07:08Okay.
07:09Wow, Fred.
07:11Look at the view.
07:12Wow.
07:13This is a nice, nice space.
07:15This floor looks weird though.
07:17Is it dusty or something?
07:20We would probably look at having this changed, but we would have to get a contractor who is
07:25a specialist in this.
07:26Yeah.
07:26But we've already noted that there's a number of renovation items that we would like to do.
07:33So perhaps we could make a bid in accordance with the cost of the renovation.
07:39I like it, but, you know, maybe we can look at some more.
07:42Yeah, sure.
07:50So this next unit we're gonna look at, the gables, we really gotta check it out.
07:56This is right on the beach, Fred.
07:58Nice.
07:58I like it.
08:00This one's going for $5.50.
08:02It's two bedrooms, two baths, and it has a fireplace.
08:06There's a view.
08:07What do you think?
08:08We have friends who have a fire pit in the backyard, but we have very few with a fireplace.
08:14So yeah, that would be nice.
08:15Yeah.
08:16This one has a balcony too.
08:17Ah, great.
08:19We'll see what it looks like.
08:22Oh, here it is, the gables.
08:24Oh, see the gulf.
08:26Look at that.
08:27All right.
08:28Woo-hoo.
08:29Wow.
08:30Yeah, nice.
08:31Oh, this is so cool.
08:33Yeah.
08:33I really like when you can see the pool and the ocean at the same time.
08:37I don't know all the rules here, but since I'm six foot, you don't have to worry about
08:41me drowning, right?
08:41Okay.
08:44This is the best way to get old.
08:46You can't do it any better than this, can you?
08:49No, this is it.
08:50This is really an added feature.
08:52Yeah.
08:52Something that makes it worth it.
08:54It is.
08:54How about if we go and look at the unit itself, see if that's going to match this good feeling
08:58that I have.
08:59Okay.
09:00All right, let's do it.
09:00Sounds like a plan.
09:15All right, we've been talking about this unit here, Katrina.
09:19Okay.
09:20Look at it.
09:20Let's take a real close look.
09:23You know, when I walked in the door, I felt like I was at a beach house.
09:26Hmm.
09:27I mean, even the floors, the tile, I like that.
09:29Yeah.
09:30Okay.
09:30And this over here...
09:31Let's see what that is.
09:33...is bathroom.
09:34Oh, wow.
09:35It's pretty big.
09:36It's always a plus.
09:37I could live with it.
09:38Let me see the shower.
09:39Okay.
09:40Now, you see this shower curtain?
09:41I'd get rid of that and put in maybe a glass door to give you a little more space.
09:45That seems a little tight.
09:46We definitely have to update this.
09:48I don't understand this.
09:50Oh.
09:51It's a workstation.
09:53It's not bad.
09:54I hate to do a little demolition, but that would make the bedroom a little larger.
10:00Yeah, it is small.
10:01Yeah.
10:01But the grandkids would enjoy this.
10:03We'd have to have at least two twin beds.
10:06It looks workable, though.
10:07Not too complicated, right?
10:10The kitchen.
10:11Oh.
10:11More bed space.
10:13Looks like a day bed for one of the grandkids.
10:15I think there are a lot of cabinets in here.
10:17But it's the ceiling that grabs my focus.
10:20Yeah.
10:20Because it's so low, those lights are going to have to be sunken into the ceiling.
10:25That at least will give us a better feel.
10:28Yeah.
10:29So what do we have here?
10:30Ah, the living room, the dining room.
10:33I mean, they've recently upgraded the flooring.
10:36This is the primary?
10:38Okay.
10:39But it's not a bad size.
10:41I like it.
10:42Yeah.
10:42Bathroom area.
10:44Okay.
10:44Look at this.
10:45Oh, it has a little tub.
10:47I like this color, the sandy color of the tile.
10:51Mm-hmm.
10:51And I think it would flow really nicely if the rest of the house was this way.
10:56Okay.
10:56Some of those things we need to look at and think about.
10:59Hey, this is the unit with the fireplace.
11:00Yeah.
11:01Okay.
11:02I like it.
11:03This is unusual.
11:04I've never seen a fireplace in a condo that would have a stack that's usable.
11:10Makes things a little cozy, doesn't it?
11:11Oh, the balcony.
11:14Hey, Freddie, we can see the water.
11:16What a nice patio.
11:18Nice patio.
11:18It's a good size, too.
11:20Mm-hmm.
11:21Comfortable area to kind of relax in the evening, maybe have dinner or have breakfast on the
11:25patio.
11:26And as I look at that view out there, the scaffolding and all that, it's gonna be gone.
11:30Not a clear view of the water, but it's attractive.
11:35Doesn't it feel good out here, though, Freddie?
11:37Yeah.
11:37Yeah.
11:38With a nice breeze like we have today, that's nice.
11:40Yeah.
11:49This next one, Harbor Bluffs, it's a condo that's walking distance to the waterfront.
11:54It's got two bedrooms, two baths, stunning views of the intercoastal, and it's a corner
12:00unit.
12:00That's exactly what we're looking for.
12:02We want to see the water, don't we?
12:03That's for sure, baby.
12:04That's for sure.
12:05Okay.
12:06The listing price is $339.
12:08Well, that's interesting.
12:10With that price, it sounds like we would be in for quite a bit of renovation work to
12:14be done.
12:15So this is gonna be interesting to look at this property at that price.
12:19I'm excited.
12:21Oh, wow.
12:22It's actually a beautiful building.
12:26Nice courtyard.
12:28Yeah, very attractive for an entry place.
12:30Go right into a green space.
12:33Beautiful fountain.
12:34I like that.
12:34Yeah.
12:35Now that view there, the intercoastal.
12:38Nice.
12:38It's beautiful, actually.
12:40Let's go see the pool.
12:42Hey, look at this.
12:44Nice.
12:45Nice, Fred.
12:45Yeah, I like it.
12:46Oh.
12:47So the kayaks, how do they get in?
12:49The water.
12:50Okay.
12:50Got a little path that goes right down to the water.
12:53Nice.
12:53Okay.
12:53Yeah, that's good.
12:54And that would encourage me to buy another kayak.
12:57Okay.
12:58Let's go see this unit.
13:00Yeah, I can't wait.
13:03Okay.
13:06Wow, look at this.
13:08It looks spacious just walking in.
13:10I like it.
13:11Beautiful space.
13:13Let's start with this kitchen here, baby.
13:16Ooh, carries the blue theme of the ocean.
13:21Lights are dated, but not bad.
13:24It's workable.
13:24It's a little tight.
13:25But if we can take out this wall and that wall.
13:29Yeah.
13:30And move everything back.
13:32Even standing here now, I get a little bit claustrophobic.
13:35It's not a problem.
13:36You just got to know, once we take out the wall,
13:39we may have to buy new cabinets.
13:42I've never seen a sliding glass like that.
13:45Is that a door or just a window?
13:46I look big.
13:48It does.
13:49But it's not too heavy for a strong man like me.
13:53Right, Tweet?
13:54I got it.
13:55You got it.
13:58Nice.
13:58Look at this.
14:00I like this.
14:00It's got a pretty decent view.
14:01You know how I am about in warm areas,
14:03so this is nice for me to set out.
14:05Mm-hmm.
14:06It's got screens so you don't have to worry about the bugs.
14:09Right.
14:09It's pretty big.
14:11Wow, you can have a pretty large group out here.
14:13But I can't get over the floor.
14:15Most places we go don't have the same type of material
14:19on the floor throughout.
14:21What's going here?
14:24Bedroom.
14:25So we definitely have to get rid of the popcorn ceiling.
14:28With this price, no problem at all getting rid of.
14:31Is this a pocket door?
14:32No, I don't think so.
14:34What is this?
14:35Oh, there's no door.
14:37Right.
14:38Hmm, we'll have to fix that.
14:40And the bathroom, what do you think?
14:43Check out the color.
14:44Too much for me.
14:46Yeah.
14:46The brown, I think it's got to go.
14:48So maybe we can completely renovate it.
14:51I think it could look a lot more modern.
14:55Ooh, ooh, this must be the primary.
14:58Oh, wow, look at this.
14:59I think that color, I mean, that green just surrounds me
15:04and is about ready to attack, but that's not a big problem.
15:06Okay.
15:07Because just about every place that we lived in, I've had to paint.
15:11And the bathroom, let's see what's in here.
15:14Oh, my.
15:15It's a pretty small bathroom, but...
15:18Yeah.
15:18Do you think that with that closet out there and the small shower,
15:22we could move it together and make one large shower?
15:26I think all of this would be tore down.
15:30Everything.
15:31Everything out.
15:32You know, all of these walls and everything would go
15:33as much as we could take out of here.
15:36Okay, so this whole area would...
15:38This would make for a nice primary bathroom.
15:42But it's still small.
15:44Yes.
15:45Still small.
15:46And it still has a good price.
15:48It does.
15:48It does.
15:58We were looking for the perfect place for our family
16:01when they come to town to visit us.
16:03And we have seen so many beautiful properties.
16:06When we walked into the Gables, it was quite intriguing.
16:09It gave me the feel of a beach.
16:11It had a nice view and the fireplace.
16:14That was a real feature for me.
16:17And then the pool area caught my eye right away.
16:19But the Gables was a little bit overpriced
16:22because I would have to do an extensive renovation.
16:25And that would have brought the price perhaps over budget.
16:28Harbor Bluffs was $339,000.
16:32That deck outside, it was fantastic.
16:35I hadn't seen one like that.
16:36But then got to the kitchen and it made me feel claustrophobic.
16:40That property, I was amazed before I even got there.
16:43Why?
16:44Because I'm a dollars and cents guy.
16:46But when I walked in and saw the work that needed to be done,
16:50it was just not attractive to me as far as to invest in it.
16:53And especially the view.
16:55From the side angle, the view was constricted.
16:58I wish that it would have been more to my likens because of the price.
17:02So we ended up choosing Harbor Club.
17:06Harbor Club.
17:07When I first saw the Harbor Club, I fell in love with it, just like Fred.
17:11The fact that it's 1,700 square feet, that gives room for potentially nine of my grandchildren to have fun
17:20at.
17:20And it has the nice patio, which is a real draw for us.
17:26Harbor Club was listed at $580,000.
17:28My offer was $500,000.
17:30And we ended up getting Harbor Club at $550,000.
17:34So now I think it's time for us to get started.
17:36Those renovations, I can't wait.
17:41So here we are.
17:43Okay.
17:44All right, Sarah.
17:45Okay.
17:45We're together again, huh?
17:47This is it.
17:48Today we're meeting with our contractor, Sarah.
17:50We've worked with Sarah before.
17:51She did an extensive renovation, and we were very pleased with it.
17:55We're going to let her know what our ideas are, and we'll be able to get her opinion,
18:00and hopefully she'll go along with the plans that we have.
18:04For the kitchen, this is where the main part of the renovation is going to take place.
18:12We've already taken into consideration that this wall here is one that cannot be moved.
18:18Yes.
18:19Me and Katrina talked about closing this off.
18:21Mm-hmm.
18:22I was thinking that we would have a seating area right here,
18:26so that when you come in, you could sit in the seat and put shoes underneath it, okay?
18:31That's a great idea.
18:32And I don't know if this is going to work or not, but at least we'll put it in a
18:35think tank.
18:36Mm-hmm.
18:37If we can transfer some of these cabinets, not many, to the garage.
18:42Yeah.
18:42And then cut this countertop to fit over that, so we'll give my garage a little work area.
18:48You dream it, and I make it happen.
18:49I know that.
18:50I know that for sure.
18:53So the cabinets.
18:55Cabinets are going like an L shape.
18:58Yes.
18:58The back wall and the wall that we're going to close.
19:00Yes.
19:00Okay.
19:01All the way to the dining area.
19:03Okay.
19:04That area over there is going to be the bar area.
19:07If we can open this kitchen up by removing this wall.
19:11Okay.
19:12And the eating area that is going to go out into the living room.
19:15The countertops.
19:16Mm-hmm.
19:16It will be the same height as what we have now.
19:18Same height as this one.
19:19Okay.
19:20Oh, great.
19:21So what kind of countertop material do you want to use?
19:24Because this is for mica.
19:25We were thinking about quartz.
19:27That's what we have in our other place, and it's very easy to clean.
19:30Okay.
19:30What I would like to have is the range across from the sink.
19:35That's no problem.
19:36And a microwave.
19:37Microwaves on top of the stove.
19:39Okay.
19:39The refrigerator going into this corner.
19:44Okay.
19:44Once we move, demolish all of that, if we don't have the same floor under the cabinet, then
19:52we're probably going to have to remove the floor.
19:55Okay.
19:56Okay.
19:57We're running into some little questions that may add to the budget.
20:02Right?
20:03Yes.
20:04The major change that we're going to make is going to be in the kitchen.
20:08But there are some cosmetic items that we will be doing in each of the rooms and areas
20:13throughout the entire unit.
20:15We're going to do some baseboard, and we're going to do crown molding.
20:18How about the wallpaper?
20:19The wallpaper has to go.
20:21Great.
20:22Okay.
20:23Now, on this bathroom here, I kind of want to keep some of that 70s aura in the place.
20:30Mm-hmm.
20:31The shower and the tub, I understand there are people that can overlay.
20:35Reglaze.
20:36Reglaze, exactly.
20:37Have you done that before?
20:39Sure.
20:39So on top of all that, we're going to have the complete interior repainted.
20:44Well, I was planning on a $30,000 renovation, but according to the inspections that was done,
20:51my unit was one of the ones that needed hurricane windows.
20:54That added $22,000 to our budget.
20:56I know now that I also have to use the property as an investment to recoup some of the budget.
21:02So now that we're down to the complete project, just your opinion.
21:08Do you think we can come within our budget?
21:10Yes, we can work with that.
21:11Good.
21:12Okay.
21:13You ready to get started?
21:14Let's do it.
21:15Okay.
21:16All right.
21:26Today's our first day of demolition, and our contractor, Sarah, is getting to work.
21:33I'm looking forward to it because Sarah's such a hard worker, and she does get things done pretty quick.
21:39You know, if you and I were doing it, it would probably be take a week.
21:44But with Sarah, it could take just one day.
21:50Oh, no.
21:53No floor.
21:55It was probably not floor over there because we don't need help cutting us here.
22:10Sarah kind of alluded to the fact that there might be a problem with the towel.
22:15But there's not enough towel underneath the refrigerator.
22:19We may have to replace a towel in the entire floor.
22:23You know, Katrina, we've been through this before, but there's always an issue, isn't there, with something?
22:28Something always comes up.
22:29Whoa!
22:31Whoa!
22:31Hey, you're back.
22:31You guys are working hard, huh?
22:33Oh, my goodness.
22:35Good that you're back.
22:36I guess I had a bad news for you.
22:38Oh, no, Sarah.
22:39No.
22:39Look at the floor.
22:40There's no floor under the cabinet.
22:42Oh, no.
22:43Oh, no.
22:44I'm sorry.
22:45But we need at least under the fridge.
22:49That's right, to lift it.
22:50And this area is going to be open area.
22:52Well, this does mean the floor is going to have to be replaced.
22:56It doesn't seem like it's very big, but the towel is very expensive.
23:02It's not just the expense of the towel itself, but it's very labor-intensive.
23:06Well, you can't have a project without challenges.
23:08Surprises.
23:09Yes.
23:10We need challenges.
23:11Challenges, yes.
23:13Now I want to talk about the cabinet.
23:15Okay.
23:15When we remove the countertop, the piece that we was planning to reuse, it break and peel
23:22off all the way to there.
23:24Gotcha.
23:24Okay.
23:25So I'm going to try to save it, but I'm not sure it's going to look good, okay?
23:30Okay.
23:30But I try my best.
23:32Yeah, I really appreciate what Sarah did to save the cabinets and the countertop and move
23:37them over to the garage.
23:43This is day one, and I'm so impressed with what Sarah has done so far.
24:05Today, the goal is to start preparation for the crown molding and for the baseboard.
24:11It allows me to put a bead around the wall so that when I start to paint the wall, things
24:22will be easy.
24:23When the baseboard is being laid, there will be a paint already extended above it as well
24:31as below the crown molding.
24:33This allows us to save on some labor time and cost.
24:41Katrina has an eye for, I'll say, beauty.
24:45And she chose this white with her, you know, emphasizing one color throughout.
24:51It gave us different tones throughout the day.
24:56And white does that.
24:58When I was a kid, my mom bought a building lot, a big one, for $200.
25:06And we built our own house.
25:08And I was fascinated.
25:11I used to sit out on the curb and watch the guy building.
25:16And I got hooked.
25:18So tomorrow morning, the contractor will come in and start laying the baseboard and some
25:24of the crown.
25:44And the other thing, like these things are kind of danded.
25:45I did not think about theMINELS.
25:45Hey, Sarah.
25:47I had to interrupt you, but I got the towels.
25:49I want to take a look at them, please.
25:50OK.
25:51Great.
25:51Let me go see.
25:53we wanted to keep the color light and i found these towels these are some uh newer style towels
26:00they're actually italian towel the bottom portion of the cabinets are going to be uh like a cream
26:07color like chocolate so we got a little shade of that in here too and the other thing i really
26:15like
26:15about it is it also has that water flow what do you think they look good which way you want
26:22to lay it
26:24stackable or even stackable will be like that yeah i think stackable is more attractive okay
26:31and as we're looking at this we can also look at the area out here we know that this wall
26:39is going
26:39to be closed in here yes perhaps uh an ideal is to just identify it as the foyer you will
26:47have
26:47better contrast with the same tile that you're going to use over there yeah and i think we want
26:52to carry that same theme right into the bathroom i love that by using the same tile in the kitchen
26:58in the foyer and the bathroom we're sure to save some money because we're not varying the different
27:05types of tile at the different cost how about the curvature here i was thinking keep the curvature
27:11yeah yeah keep the curvature give it a little bit different than that square look that everyone
27:16okay yeah we can keep the curves and and and since we're going to keep the curvature yes we'll use
27:22less
27:23towel won't we uh-huh good less towels i gotta shake my pockets means less money
27:39so today we're going to focus on the guest bathroom i chose to keep what we already have
27:46and just to bring it up by reglazing the process of glazing the tub starts with uh taping
27:54everything off and then they clean the tub the entire tub they repaint the tub and then a finished
28:03coat of glaze the decision to reglaze the tub was really a smart one because once this bathroom
28:10is complete it's going to look brand new but the cost was a lot less
28:31the cabinets have arrived but some of them don't match the original measurements so uh sarah is showing me some
28:38options so that we don't have to reorder the solution is that we're going to
28:42move some of the cabinets around but in a different configuration
28:46move into the front okay and then that way it can be where it's supposed to be
28:54over there and then a cohort here
28:57so luckily sarah only has to make a few adjustments
29:01and she can jump right into it and start assembling it
29:08we chose raised panel off-white cabinets because this look
29:12is timeless and it'll match some of the other designs in the kitchen
29:18the appliances have arrived and once sarah and our crew
29:23get the cabinets in place then the countertops can be installed
29:43we think the patio element is one of the most important parts of the project
29:49because it's not just important to us but for those that are renting it's going to be a draw
29:53and also for our family we can all enjoy it together
29:57and we were able to see every step in the project
30:00first i need to uh sand it all down make it smooth
30:08fill in the cracks so it'd be ready for the base coat
30:15the base coating is going to be a kind of brownish gold
30:29on top of the base coating what's going to be added is paint flakes
30:37this will give the patio a new color as well as a texture look
30:47once this process applied they come back and seal the whole patio
30:55the cost for the patio was roughly 3 100. and i'm a dollar crunching man but i haven't thought about
31:03the dollars because we're going to be out here enjoying this million dollar view so it was really worth it
31:16so this is exciting because this is like some of the final pieces that we're putting together
31:22my head is spinning a little bit look at all these choices in the kitchen to get this backsplash
31:28correct is very important it has to bring everything together because it'll be at eye level so we have
31:35to make sure we get it right so this one we chose it because it offers some variations this one
31:44has a lot
31:44of the floor in it okay different browns that come out in it i think i i want to eliminate
31:50that one
31:51okay because it's a little too busy yeah and then we go to the white you know you can put
31:57white with just
31:58about anything and you know i know bringing in the right tone of grout uh could really set it off
32:06so
32:06let's get some grout that would go with the floor or with the countertop but as much as i like
32:12the one
32:13specific color that being white i'm not sold on it i'm i just it's just too traditional i'm looking for
32:21something that's going to pop okay now this one the herringbone has the beige and a little bit of
32:29uh the bluish greenish what's attractive about it is it has the herringbone design which fits into
32:37the floor that's true but there's no real texture to it so when you look at it from the side
32:44it may
32:45look a little flat and the colors may not show up gotcha um this one that has the mirror effect
32:53around the edges but it's a little flat and if you look around the corner you can't really see
32:58much texture to it that one for me i'm not crazy about it i really was leaning toward this one
33:05here
33:05it's got the colors that reflect the wall at different times of the day yeah it doesn't have
33:14enough character i think i want something a little more exciting i mean something with color when i
33:20think of color my mind is going toward this one um because it does have the colors that we want
33:26and um this has texture it does have that wow factor in it yeah with the texture to it and
33:34the size of
33:35the tile and maybe the color of the grout this should be very interesting i can see that yeah what
33:41do you think i can buy in i can buy into it this new backsplash that we're putting in hopefully
33:47it'll
33:48add more dimension and more life and once that backsplash is finished that should be it for the
33:54kitchen i like all of them but this one has something that takes us into the future that's
34:00what i think i guess the real test is once we have it installed
34:15over the weekend we had a crew in to install all new windows
34:28we're nearing the end of our larger projects and we should be finished by the end of the week
34:48when i saw the guy there's only two of them and and that was kind of my question
34:54do you lift 250 pounds the countertops that me and katrina picked out are finally here it's going
35:00to be from there to here here it's going to be huge aren't you glad you don't have to pick
35:08it up
35:28with our countertop layout we had to have the stone cut into a few pieces now those pieces have
35:33to be sealed together this machine uses hydraulic pressure to make sure each side of the seam is
35:39perfectly level with each other the countertop that fred and i picked out turned out better than i
35:54even imagined all right so what do you think over here well my little lemon tree i can't wait to
36:02get
36:02to be a grown man i am feeling so relieved because renovation turned out real good what do you think
36:13right here is this was your spot i think so all right that looked good let me try that baby
36:19out
36:23this is the exact spot for an old man you know that okay i think so okay all right well
36:29today we're
36:30going to decorate a little bit you can leave it right there that looks good put out a few things
36:35you
36:36know fluff a few pillows and put out a few flowers okay great she does a great job you can
36:42move the bowl
36:42over just a little over to the left perfect oh nice color okay that'll work you're doing pretty good
36:51girl okay so we're ready for rachel and dale yes dale and rachel we've been friends for at least 15
37:00years
37:01and um you know we watched their daughter grow up and get married so you know we're connected with the
37:07family and so they're looking forward to it because they have not seen the place oh okay that's pretty
37:16nice so perfect you know what was there no some saloon doors oh so we closed it up that's nice
37:23that's
37:23nice that's what you're telling us about it's gorgeous look at this little touch of nautical right
37:28here function yeah oh very nice oh wow okay it's so beachy but at the same time it's so inviting
37:38yes
37:39you like it you like it it's fun that's so cool this is very wide open you gotta love that
37:45view out
37:45there you guys have found it the location as well as the way you put it all together with the
37:50colors
37:59beautiful just like the water and the ocean with the counters it matches perfectly yeah attention to
38:06detail it's an art piece the blue and sand colors here with the beachy feel but it's got all those
38:11little specks in it really jumps out after the sparkles this is actually quartz oh it's gorgeous
38:15and so we looked through several slabs because as you can see we use quite a bit oh i'm looking
38:20at
38:20all of this yeah you like all my cabinets katrina what did you get here oh is this going to
38:25be your
38:26spice cabinet i think so yeah i think we might need one of these plenty of spice for the spice
38:33it's giving her ideas uh-huh i'm so glad you like it it's just perfect what's going to be your
38:40first meal
38:42that you're going to put it here what are you going to do what am i going to do for
38:46the first meal
38:49how about a hot dog
38:55maybe the toppings will make it over the top okay sounds good i would love to cook in here i
39:00mean
39:00this would be fun you guys have attention to detail yeah thank you dale thank you very much you could
39:05have
39:05a whole big huge party in here yeah yeah that's always nice when you have that open concept of the
39:10kitchen flowing into the dining room flowing into the main area it's it's very well done this is
39:15gorgeous this is probably the reason why you got this place you know it dale this is beautiful like
39:20this that sea breeze feels so good amazing and the new flooring yeah oh i feel like i need to
39:26take my
39:27flip-flops off because i can start walking on the sand now yeah oh yeah oh this is great with
39:33this
39:33amazing view isn't this where you want to settle well it's a little paradise only this is not settling
39:39this is a vacation yeah yeah yeah we think so too well the guest bathroom we left it as is
39:48as much as
39:48possible by just recoding the tub so that bathroom actually cost us 500 the primary bedroom didn't
39:55require a lot of changes just a small amount of paint and the furniture was actually purchased from a
40:03consignment store the furniture in the spare bedroom it was something that we already had
40:08it was a dark brown so i repainted it turquoise blue in a chalk paint style this was my first
40:15time
40:15doing it and it turned out really well i'm happy with it the color of the walls we chose something
40:20that was neutral and we went with the lighter yellows and the turquoise and the blues it's kind of
40:27taken us out of our comfort zone but i'm glad that it did because it matches very well
40:31and uh looks kind of stylish everything sort of came together and i'm very pleased with the way that
40:38it turned out okay so stick around we have some more friends coming and you'll be able to join in
40:44and
40:44we'll all celebrate together fantastic looking forward to seeing them
40:53hi welcome how are you guys doing we got obadiah and malina that are coming by and then we got
41:01joe and
41:02his wife gail so this is our new place thank you nice job we've had uh so many challenges i
41:10am gonna
41:11make this work but i was fortunate to have a very very competent contractor and that kind of was the
41:19answer do i feel good oh yeah yeah very good dale are you gonna get in here that's good in
41:26our budget we made a lot of
41:27adjustments but what really took us over the top was the kitchen we spent twelve thousand dollars for
41:33the cabinets uh we spent another six thousand for the quartz countertops i may have went a little over
41:41the budget but when you look at it from an investment standpoint i feel like i just put my money
41:46in the
41:47bank and i'm looking forward to increasing my rental business in the long run the initial investment
41:53uh is going to be paid off a hundred fold hey taking it out to the million dollar view this
42:01is what
42:01it's all about i think we chose the right location because of the view and we have the sunsets it's
42:10right across from the beach area and um hopefully um we'll have some good times maybe have a few laughs
42:16the only thing that outweighs out beats and outsmarts the view is these beautiful people that i have
42:24become friends with this toast says to everyone i love you thank you having this extra space for our
42:32family they are going to love it it may encourage them to come visit us more and it's really such
42:39a
42:39gift to us oh we're all getting in guys there's a toast right here thank you thank you thank you
