04:03I didn't want to say this, but this is why we have to have all of the attributes of what

04:19That's why Secret Service, that's why the military are demanding it.
04:23They've wanted the ballroom for 150 years for lots of different reasons,
04:28but today is a little bit different because today we need levels of security that probably nobody's ever seen before.
04:36But everyone owes a tremendous debt of gratitude to the courage of law enforcement.
04:43The law enforcement and working with the D.C. police, and we just spoke with the mayor,
04:48and when we're finished, the police chief is going to take over and discuss it also from their viewpoint.
04:58But they also performed exactly as they were supposed to,
05:02and you see the attacker in different positions,
05:05but you also see the attacker totally subdued and under control.
05:11So, as you know, this is not the first time in the past couple of years
05:14that our republic has been attacked by a would-be assassin who sought to kill
05:21in Butler, Pennsylvania, less than two years ago.
05:23You all know that story.
05:25And in Palm Beach, Florida, a few months after that, we came close.
05:29We really had, again, we had some great work done by law enforcement.
05:35But in light of this evening's events, I ask that all Americans recommit with their hearts
05:41in resolving our difference peacefully.
05:43We have to resolve our differences.
05:46I will say, you had Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Conservatives,
05:53Liberals, and Progressives.
05:55Those words are interchangeable, perhaps, but maybe they're not.
05:58But you had everybody in that room, big crowd, record-setting crowd.
06:02There was a record-setting group of people,
06:06and there was a tremendous amount of love in coming together.
06:10I watched, I watched, and I was very, very impressed by that.
06:15But we were, First Lady and I were taken very well care of,
06:21very quickly, very quickly rushed off the stage.
06:24Vice President J.D. Vance, who's here, was likewise beautifully done.
06:31He was just saying how quickly everybody acted, law enforcement,
06:35Secret Service in particular in this case, but law enforcement.
06:38Marco had the same thing.
06:39Pete was there.
06:40Pete didn't want any help.
06:42He didn't want anybody to help.
06:43He doesn't want anybody to help him.
06:45But he did get some, didn't you?
06:47And I think you also said that it was very impressive.
06:51So, with that, I'd like to ask Todd Blanche to come up, say a few words,
06:55and tell you it's already underway.

07:06I guess he lives in California.
07:08And he's a sick person, a very sick person.
07:11And we don't want things like this to happen.
07:13I think it's very important that I say, though,
07:15and I told the representatives of the evening,
07:18they did such a beautiful job with such a beautiful evening.
07:21And again, they're talking about free speech in our Constitution.
07:24That's what it's all about.
07:25Not just White House correspondents.
07:28It was really based on free speech in our Constitution.
07:31But I said very importantly that we'll do it again within the next 30 days.
07:37And we'll make it bigger and better and even nicer.
07:41So, I just want to thank everybody that was involved.
07:44I also want to thank the press, the media.
07:46You've been very responsible in your coverage.
07:49I will say I've been seeing what's been out.
07:51You've been very responsible.
07:52So, Todd Blanche, I'd like to say a few words.

09:51However, as we continue to investigate that, we'll continue to work towards that.

09:55I mean, what we have here is a multilayered approach.
09:57The director spoke about it.
09:58We have officers on the outside from the Metropolitan Police Department along with the escort.
10:02The inside portion of any presidential site is handled by the Secret Service and law enforcement partners.
10:06This is a multilayered approach.
10:08The point of this checkpoint is to intercept individuals that were there.
10:11And what we see in this case is when he reached that checkpoint,
10:14Secret Service agents and law enforcement engaged him immediately.
10:16They were able to bring them into custody and prevent anyone from being harmed.
