00:00And like racing, all champions have an origin.
00:06So the question remains, where will the next champion come from?
00:14Welcome to Mojo Plays.
00:16And even though the PS3 was only a couple generations ago,
00:19there are already some titles unplayable without a PS3 console and a copy of the game.
00:24Come on, come on, come on!
00:35Before we continue, be sure to subscribe to our channel
00:38and ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:43The Eye of Judgment
00:44The PS2 got a little weird with their accessories,
00:47but the PS3 is where Sony got really crazy
00:50and started pushing things like the PlayStation Move and the PlayStation Eye.
00:55While the PlayStation Move was simply a Nintendo Wiimote clone,
00:58the PlayStation Eye at least has some games that did some interesting things with it,
01:03like the Eye of Judgment.
01:04Taking traditional card battles and making the entire experience far more interactive
01:08with full cutscenes of skirmishes playing out on screen,
01:11as well as your cards becoming animated on the board like that Adventure Time episode.
01:15So, my ancient scholar raises the dead.
01:20I fluked the pig.
01:21The mechanics were simple enough to understand,
01:25and there were even numerous booster packs sold separately.
01:28This one is more understandable being only playable on the PS3,
01:31as finding a complete set with all the accessories necessary to even play
01:35is like finding the Ark of the Covenant.
01:38Yakuza Dead Souls
01:49Yakuza has exploded in popularity in recent years,
01:53and Sega has either remastered or ported every entry to modern hardware
01:57to let players experience the entire series,
02:00except for one.
02:02Yakuza Dead Souls might not be canon to the overall Yakuza series,
02:06but that doesn't mean it's any less of an experience.
02:08Exchanging most of the standard melee-style brawls
02:11for more traditional third-person shooting,
02:13with players mowing down hordes of the undead in the streets of Kamaracho,
02:17Dead Souls is a fun what-if-style game
02:19that feels both out of place,
02:21but also integral to the complete Yakuza series.
02:24It's certainly not the best game in the entire series,
02:27and has more than its fair share of problems,
02:29but it's without question one of the most unique
02:31and downright entertaining entries in the long-running series
02:34that deserves its rightful place amongst the many other remakes and remasters.
02:46Drakengard 3
03:00Given the near-universal success of the Nier franchise,
03:03the series it spun off from, Drakengard,
03:06has started to receive quite a lot of demand for remasters,
03:09or at the very least, a way to replay the first and third games.
03:12As a prequel to the first game, Drakengard 3 is also the one most closely associated with Nier.
03:19Drakengard 3 features much of what made Nier Automata such a success,
03:23primarily its deep and evolving narrative with multiple endings,
03:27interesting characters and world-building,
03:29as well as solid hack-and-slash combat.
03:31Given the game released a month into the PS4's life cycle,
03:34it easily could have been a launch title for the PS4,
03:37and more fans would have had the chance to revisit Nier's origins,
03:41but, for now at least, we'll be digging into the past for this adventure.
03:44The original Nier ended up getting a remaster,
03:47so anything is possible, just not very likely.
03:50And that...
03:53someday...
03:55someday...
03:56she and I will see each other again.
04:00Crazy, I know.
04:02Call it a hunch.
04:03Haze
04:04You've been getting your meds?
04:06I-I-I'm fine.
04:08You crazy son of a bitch!
04:10You're trying to get us all killed?
04:12I'm fine.
04:14Morgan, I-I think he's okay.
04:15You're okay, right?
04:18Yeah, yeah, I'm fine.
04:19Sony was desperate for their own Halo,
04:21and tasked the developers behind the beloved Timesplitter series with delivering them one.
04:26Naturally, just like their many other attempts,
04:28this one didn't even come close to dethroning Halo,
04:31and Free Radical was shut down shortly after.
04:34While not perfect, not even close,
04:36that doesn't mean that Haze should be completely forgotten.
04:39The game had a lot of promise from a talented studio
04:41that clearly felt the pressure to deliver Sony's Halo killer.
04:45Just because the game didn't meet expectations
04:47doesn't mean that it should be lost to time forever,
04:49and is still a solid 6 out of 10 experience
04:52that could offer FPS fans something different to mess around with
04:55over a lazy Saturday afternoon,
04:57but it's more likely Sony just wants the game to be nothing more than a hazy memory.
05:01When you have all the information,
05:05it's easy to make the right decision.
05:09Tales of Zillia 2
05:11The trial is cruel.
05:14Unbearably cruel.
05:17And people are weak.
05:20Weak enough to ruin us all.
05:22You will come to understand.
05:24This is our curse.
05:25The Tales series is one of the longest-running JRPG franchises
05:29in gaming alongside Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest,
05:33and each one is a well-crafted and engaging adventure
05:36that tells a unique story.
05:37One of the rare exceptions of a sequel,
05:39Tales of Zillia 2 continues that narrative
05:42after the events of the first game,
05:43and players get to witness the aftermath of that game's conclusion.
05:47The game features the familiar and solid combat
05:49fans have come to expect from the series,
05:51and the characters are well-developed
05:53and have their own unique motivations throughout the narrative.
05:55Certain new additions to the familiar formula
05:57weren't as well-received,
05:59such as the debt system,
06:00but it rarely takes away from the overall experience.
06:03Given the first game was recently remastered,
06:06there's every possibility the sequel
06:07will receive the same treatment.
06:09But for now,
06:10the only way to continue the Tales of Zillia adventure
06:12is with a PS3 and a copy of the game.
06:15Well, you need to learn to stand it.
06:18Maybe someday.
06:20You're impossible.
06:22Killzone 2 and Killzone 3.
06:24Hands down!
06:26Keep up!
06:28Coming back!
06:30Ah!
06:31Ah!
06:32Ah!
06:34No!
06:34The original Killzone might not have been
06:37the Halo killer Sony had wanted,
06:39but proved to be enough of a proof of concept
06:41that the series received two sequels,
06:43each vastly improving on the last.
06:45The graphics received a noticeable upgrade
06:47and even managed to surpass
06:49their controversial reveal trailer
06:50with highly detailed environments and weapons.
06:53Combat felt grounded and heavy
06:55despite the sci-fi aesthetic,
06:56and the two games managed to tell
06:58a surprisingly effective narrative
07:00that kept players invested in the Helgen War
07:02until the trilogy's conclusion.
07:04The duology also featured a robust
07:06and inventive multiplayer suite,
07:08and both games still hold up incredibly well today,
07:11especially graphically,
07:12and with a surprising amount
07:13of environmental interactivity.
07:15Despite the series never losing its popularity
07:17due to hopes Guerrilla will one day
07:19return to the franchise,
07:20the final entry, Shadowfall,
07:22remains the only Killzone game playable on PSN.
07:26Unless...
07:26What if I had no enemies left to fight?
07:30What if I used my weapons
07:32and killed everyone on Earth?
07:35Mod Nation Racers
07:37Don't count this rookie out.
07:39Even this reporter is getting into the spirit of things.
07:42And in other news,
07:44Gary just graduated from pull-ups to big boy pants.
07:47The PS3 was the pinnacle of user-generated content
07:51with the LittleBigPlanet series
07:52giving players the tools to design their own game creations,
07:55and naturally, other games followed suit
07:57in different genres.
07:58Mod Nation Racers gave players
08:00a hilarious campaign to play through
08:02full of laugh-out-loud moments
08:04and memorable characters.
08:05However, the true meat of the experience
08:07was the insanely deep customization options available.
08:10Not only could players design
08:12their own racers, carts, and tracks,
08:14but they could also set up obstacles
08:16to keep their races unpredictable.
08:18Unfortunately, the servers were shut down in 2018,
08:22effectively deleting all that user-created content.
08:25The game is still playable,
08:26but only on the PS3 system,
08:28and you'll be the only one
08:29who gets to experience your creations.
08:31We're at Trackside with Hale.
08:33Boy, he sure is proud of his cart.
08:35Look at how well he polishes it.
08:36Good thing you don't care that much about your car, Gary.
08:39What do you mean?
08:40There was a little incident
08:41when I pulled into the parking lot this morning.
08:43Pain.
08:49They just don't make games like Pain anymore.
08:53A physics-based game in which your entire goal
08:55is to cause as much, well, pain as possible
08:58to your character
08:59as you watch them helplessly ragdoll
09:01across different obstacles
09:02and watch replays of your character's misery on repeat.
09:06The game was peak jackass and mid-2000s humor,
09:09and sending the various characters straight into a wall
09:12was always good for a laugh.
09:13It even featured cameos
09:14from other PlayStation franchises like Daxter
09:17and even David Hasselhoff for good measure.
09:19Since the game was a digital-only title,
09:22the only real way to play
09:23is to have hopefully purchased the game upon release
09:25and still have access to your account.
09:28Otherwise, your greatest pain
09:29will be never seeing the Hoff
09:31getting stuck helplessly to a wall.
09:41Folklore.
09:53The PS3 generation got off to a rocky start
09:56with a lackluster lineup,
09:58but even still,
09:59somehow folklore managed to get overlooked
10:01in the early years of the PS3.
10:04Set in Ireland and heavily inspired by Celtic lore,
10:07folklore featured two playable protagonists,
10:09each with their own reasons
10:11for investigating the quaint village
10:12by exploring the memories of the dead
10:14and can unlock powers
10:15by traveling to the netherworld
10:17and befriending creatures from Irish mythology.
10:19You can collect dozens of creature powers
10:21and are free to swap out
10:23your four primary attacks at any time,
10:25adding a welcome level of strategy
10:27to the traditional hack-and-slash combat.
10:29One interesting aspect
10:30is even though both characters
10:32can collect the same souls,
10:34they utilize their powers differently.
10:36Folklore is an impressively artistic experience
10:38unlike anything else on the PS3
10:40that, unfortunately,
10:42even fewer will get to experience now
10:44without a PS3 console.
10:46I wanted so very much to see you.
10:48It was very hard without you.
10:51I was so young.
10:52But that doesn't matter anymore.
10:54Resistance, Fall of Man,
10:56and Resistance 2.
10:58But it was his eyes
10:58that were most disturbing.
11:00They showed unmistakable Chimaran traits.
11:03It was subtle,
11:04but it was there.
11:05Throughout the PS3 generation,
11:07Insomniac Games truly lived up
11:09to their studio name,
11:10cranking up three Resistance games
11:12and seven freaking Ratchet & Clank titles.
11:15And yet, somehow,
11:16while the entire Ratchet & Clank library
11:18is on PSN,
11:19only the third Resistance game
11:21is playable on modern hardware.
11:23Resistance, Fall of Man,
11:24was a marked departure
11:25for the traditionally platform-heavy developer,
11:28but managed to still showcase
11:29their inventiveness with weapons
11:31and an alternate reality alien invasion.
11:33Resistance 2 pushed the creativeness further
11:36with a more impactful narrative
11:37and larger-scale battles
11:38as the alien invasion reached America.
11:41The gameplay remains as solid
11:42and fun as ever,
11:44and the demand for a sequel
11:45or even a port of the entire series
11:47remains constant even today.
11:49But, as of right now,
11:51players can only jump into the third game
11:52with no way to replay the events
11:54that led to that game's conclusion.
12:05Tokyo Jungle
12:12Despite gaming becoming more mainstream
12:14during the PS3 era,
12:16that doesn't mean that PlayStation
12:17left their weirdness behind them.
12:19Case in point, Tokyo Jungle.
12:21After the complete extinction of mankind,
12:23animals have once again risen
12:25to the top of the food chain
12:26and must now survive
12:27the concrete jungle
12:28left behind by humanity.
12:30Purely a survival game
12:32more than anything,
12:33you take control of numerous animals
12:35ranging from a Pomeranian
12:36to a lion
12:37and even a robot dog
12:39because why not?
12:40You need to forage for food,
12:41build your pack,
12:42and survive the other
12:43larger predators hunting you.
12:45These mechanics
12:46aren't especially deep,
12:47but that keeps you moving
12:48up the food chain
12:49and opens new areas
12:50for you to explore
12:51with each new species you unlock.
12:53The roguelike elements
12:54and mechanics
12:55can be a tad obtuse,
12:57but where else can you play
12:58as a deer hiding from predators
12:59under a trash can?
13:01Only on the PS3 now.
13:103D Dot Game Heroes
13:19After the success
13:20of Nintendo's
13:21Legend of Zelda series,
13:22many developers
13:23attempted to replicate
13:24what made that franchise
13:25so successful,
13:26but few managed
13:27to capture the pure essence
13:29of the series
13:29the way 3D Dot Game Heroes did.
13:32Taking inspiration
13:33from A Link to the Past,
13:34Game Heroes
13:35not only recaptured
13:36the look and feel
13:37of that classic title,
13:38but even brought
13:39the 16-bit graphics
13:40into HD.
13:42Utilizing voxel-based graphics,
13:44players can customize
13:44their hero brick by brick
13:46or use one of the many
13:47custom characters
13:48already available
13:49and set out
13:50into the pixelated world
13:51full of enemies,
13:52dungeons,
13:53and puzzles
13:53just waiting for you
13:54to destroy
13:55into tiny voxel sprites.
13:57The entire game
13:58is filled with fan service
14:00and the devs clearly
14:01had a lot of love
14:01and respect
14:02for their inspirations.
14:04Unfortunately,
14:053D Dot Game Heroes
14:06wasn't a massive success
14:07and has been mostly forgotten
14:09by all but those
14:10who played it.
14:19Lair
14:20I fear this is only
14:22the beginning.
14:23Let the pagans come.
14:25We'll make the sky
14:26rain with their blood.
14:28The concept of having
14:29your own dragon
14:30to fly around
14:30and rain all hell
14:32down on the armies below
14:33is something we all
14:34dreamed of as kids
14:35playing with our toys
14:36and by all accounts,
14:38Lair should have
14:38more than fulfilled
14:39that dream.
14:40However,
14:41thanks to Sony's
14:41insistence
14:42on 6-axis controls,
14:44Lair is rarely
14:45talked about today
14:46even despite the game
14:47eventually receiving
14:48a patch
14:48enabling normal controls.
14:50Developed by Factor 5,
14:52the creative team
14:52behind the incredible
14:53Star Wars Rogue Squadron games,
14:55Lair features
14:56both aerial gameplay
14:57as well as on foot
14:58with your dragon companion
15:00assisting you.
15:00The world of Lair
15:01is impressively detailed,
15:03especially the dragons
15:04themselves and the lore
15:05and narrative
15:06throughout the entire
15:07lengthy campaign
15:07is worth getting
15:09invested in.
15:10Unfortunately,
15:11and due mostly
15:11to Sony's
15:12aforementioned meddling,
15:14Factor 5 shut down
15:15shortly after the release
15:16of Lair and Sony
15:17themselves would likely
15:18rather forget this game
15:19ever existed.
15:20Their spirits
15:22are stronger
15:23than their bodies.
15:24Bring them their leader
15:26and you shall see.
15:28Motorstorm Series
15:36The Motorstorm Series
15:37might have long
15:38been forgotten
15:39by most early adopters
15:40of the PS3,
15:41but not us.
15:43The races can quickly
15:44devolve into absolute chaos
15:45with various styles
15:46of vehicles
15:47all fighting for first
15:48alongside the impressive
15:49track deformation physics.
15:51The off-road racing series
15:52got increasingly
15:53more over the top
15:54as the games progressed,
15:55incorporating even more
15:57of the environmental destruction
15:58that would affect races
15:59into the core racing loop
16:01until its final entry,
16:02Motorstorm Apocalypse.
16:04Pacific Rift
16:05took the racing series
16:06to a more tropical setting
16:07and Apocalypse
16:08brought the racers
16:08to the crumbling
16:09concrete jungle.
16:10The evolution
16:11of the Motorstorm Series
16:12into a pure adrenaline
16:13racing franchise
16:14was pure fun
16:16and would have you
16:16screaming at the
16:17many near misses
16:18or last second finishes,
16:20but unfortunately,
16:21all those
16:22Michael Bay-esque experiences
16:23are still trapped
16:24on only the PS3
16:26for now.
16:27And no,
16:28Motorstorm RC
16:29doesn't count either.
16:38Socom 4,
16:39U.S. Navy SEALs.
16:41What about Intel?
16:42Satellites?
16:42Extractions?
16:43Oh, let me see.
16:46I'm sorry, sir.
16:47This isn't my area
16:48of expertise.
16:48We have to move.
16:49I'll contact you soon.
16:50Sony's push for
16:51live service games
16:52the entire PS5 generation
16:53has been nothing short
16:54of disastrous for them,
16:56but they're somehow
16:57forgetting they already
16:58have the perfect series
16:59to make the leap
17:00to modern day
17:00that could easily
17:01be adapted for their
17:02live service model.
17:04The Socom series
17:05was the definitive
17:06militaristic experience
17:07for players back
17:08on the PS2
17:09and unfortunately
17:10was retired from service
17:11on the PS3.
17:13The fourth entry
17:13leaned heavier
17:14into traditional
17:15third-person cover-based
17:16shooter mechanics,
17:17which was the style
17:18at the time,
17:18and lost some of that
17:19military strategy
17:20that made the series
17:21so special,
17:22but it was still
17:22an entertaining time
17:24made better with friends.
17:25The campaign is still solid,
17:27but the multiplayer
17:28is where the true
17:29Socom experience
17:30was defined,
17:31and if given the chance,
17:32the return of Socom
17:33could be another
17:34Helldivers 2-level
17:35success for Sony,
17:36but instead they left
17:38the series trapped
17:38on retro hardware.
17:40You think they're gonna
17:41let it just limp away?
17:46We're close.
17:48Puppeteer
17:58The victim of a poor
18:00release window,
18:01Puppeteer not only
18:02released just before
18:03the PS4,
18:04but on the surface
18:05looked like nothing more
18:06than a little big
18:07planet clone.
18:08The entire game
18:09is presented as a
18:10stage play,
18:11and likewise
18:11all the effects,
18:12environments,
18:13and characters
18:14on screen are tied,
18:15get it,
18:16to traditional
18:16stage props.
18:17The game is
18:18incredibly gorgeous
18:19and has a surprisingly
18:20emotional narrative
18:21at its core,
18:22stringing the entire
18:23experience together.
18:24Gameplay is a
18:25traditional platformer,
18:26with the player
18:27cutting through
18:27the stage scenery
18:28and utilizing
18:29swappable heads
18:30that each have
18:30their own unique
18:31abilities.
18:32Puppeteer was a
18:33one-of-a-kind
18:33experience at the
18:34tail end of the
18:35PS3's life cycle,
18:36and was deeply
18:37beloved by those
18:38who played it,
18:39but now the only
18:40way to experience
18:41this stage show
18:42is with a copy
18:43and a PS3.
18:44Where did he?
18:45He has disappeared!
18:47Quick, Kataro,
18:48nap him!
18:50Darn!
18:51We had him
18:51right in our
18:52clutches!
18:53Twisted Metal
19:01The
19:02Twisted Metal
19:02series was a
19:03staple of the
19:04PS1 generation,
19:05and although those
19:06classics, including
19:06the PS2 entry
19:07Twisted Metal Black,
19:09are all available
19:09on PSN,
19:10the 2012
19:11PS3 entry
19:12is not.
19:13The definitive
19:14Car Combat
19:15series,
19:15Twisted Metal
19:162012,
19:17attempted to reboot
19:17the series after the
19:18incredibly dark
19:19Twisted Metal Black,
19:20and despite the
19:21classic car carnage
19:22remaining intact,
19:23alongside much
19:24larger arenas,
19:25new backstories,
19:26and updated vehicles
19:27for every character,
19:29most Twisted Metal
19:29fans, and especially
19:30newcomers playing the
19:31series for the first
19:32time after the
19:33success of the TV
19:34series, are missing
19:35what has so far been
19:36the final entry in
19:38the franchise.
19:39Naturally, the online
19:40servers have long
19:41since shut down,
19:42but the single player
19:43and split screen
19:44modes are still a
19:45hell of a lot of fun
19:46that modern Twisted
19:46Metal fans have yet
19:47to experience.
19:49Perhaps you need a
19:50different sort of
19:51doctor.
19:52A therapist,
19:53perhaps.
19:53I'm afraid there's
19:54nothing more I can
19:55do for you.
19:56Gran Turismo 5 and
19:57Gran Turismo 6.
19:59Gran Turismo has
20:00defined every
20:01PlayStation generation,
20:02and somehow,
20:03despite the series'
20:04enduring popularity,
20:05every GT game is
20:07console-locked to
20:08its respective
20:09generation.
20:10Gran Turismo 5 and
20:116 are especially
20:12egregious as the
20:13Gran Turismo series
20:14essentially skipped
20:15the entire PS4
20:16generation besides
20:17Gran Turismo 4.
20:18which itself was
20:19focused primarily on
20:21the online aspect of
20:22the racing series and
20:23has naturally since
20:24been delisted and
20:25taken offline.
20:26Both 5 and 6 are
20:28time capsules of their
20:29respective eras with
20:30a combined 3,000
20:31drivable vehicles
20:32between them,
20:33ranging from
20:34traditional to
20:35classic, and
20:36supercars all
20:37perfectly recreated
20:38and road-ready
20:39for players.
20:40Considering Gran
20:40Turismo fans waited
20:42nearly a decade for
20:43the next mainline
20:44entry only to be met
20:45with ludicrous
20:46microtransactions and
20:47endless grinding,
20:48Gran Turismo 5 and
20:496 represent the last
20:51pure Gran Turismo
20:52experiences from
20:53Polyphony.
20:54Demon's Souls
20:55Brave soul who
20:57fears not death.
21:01I shall guide you.
21:03Although there is
21:04technically a way to
21:06replay Demon's Souls
21:07thanks to Bluepoint's
21:08remake, surviving the
21:09world of Boletaria in
21:11the original Demon's
21:12Souls is impossible
21:13without a PS3.
21:15Responsible for the
21:15future success and
21:17birth of a new
21:17genre, the Souls-like,
21:19the inability to
21:20replay the original
21:21Demon's Souls is a
21:22gross oversight by
21:23both PlayStation and
21:25FromSoftware, and
21:26there are more than a
21:27few dedicated fans who
21:28prefer the original to
21:29the remake.
21:30The original Demon's
21:31Souls laid the groundwork
21:32for FromSoft's future
21:33success, and the art
21:35style of the original
21:36can't be beat even by
21:37the updated and gorgeous
21:394K visuals of the
21:40remake.
21:41There's just something
21:42appropriately gothic
21:43about the architecture
21:44of the original that
21:45is lost by upscaling
21:47the graphics.
21:48The Demon's Souls
21:48remake is a near
21:49one-to-one copy of
21:51the original 2009
21:52release, but for
21:53die-hard Souls fans,
21:55it lost some of that
21:56charm that made the
21:57original so engrossing.
21:59The demons hunt down
22:00men and claim their
22:02souls.
22:03Those who lose their
22:04souls also lose their
22:06minds.
22:07PlayStation All-Stars
22:08Battle Royale
22:18The idea of taking
22:20beloved mascots and
22:21pitting them against
22:22one another in a battle
22:23arena is such a good
22:24idea that Nintendo did
22:26it in 1999 with Super
22:28Smash Brothers.
22:29So, naturally,
22:30PlayStation tried to
22:31copy that formula.
22:32Now, that doesn't mean
22:33it wasn't still fun.
22:34In fact, the only real
22:35downside to the lineup
22:37was the lack of
22:37characters that helped
22:38define PlayStation such
22:39as Snake or Cloud.
22:41The stages players
22:42battled on were well
22:43designed, and the game
22:44did a decent job of
22:45representing the
22:45characters' respective
22:46powers and balancing
22:48all of them to keep
22:49things from feeling
22:49too chaotic.
22:50PlayStation All-Stars
22:51Battle Royale managed
22:53to be more than a
22:53simple clone of a
22:54better series.
22:55But, with no new
22:56entries and the only
22:57game in the franchise
22:58trapped on the PS3,
23:00modern gamers will
23:01never know who would
23:02win in a battle
23:03between Jak and Daxter
23:04and Ratchet and
23:05Clank.
23:09My ice cream cone!
23:12That was a mistake,
23:13buddy.
23:14A mistake I can
23:15correct!
