00:19I can't have another night like last night.
00:22Is this too much?
00:36This place is nuts.
00:55I'm just not sure anybody can survive here for 21 days.
01:00Oh, my God.
01:02Two strangers.
01:04No food.
01:12No water.
01:1521 days.
01:17Don't tap.
01:18Die first.
01:20Naked and afraid.
01:28I'm Tyler Dean Milligan.
01:30I'm 38 years old.
01:31I'm a survival instructor, and I'm here in Botswana.
01:38As a survival instructor, I really, really go after really hard challenges.
01:44The Okavanga Delta is going to be exactly that.
01:47Lack of water.
01:48Lack of food.
01:49Lack of shade.
01:50This place is going to be brutal for a Northwestern European guy like me.
01:54I'm going to burn like a crisp.
02:03I have been through a lot.
02:06Everything from, you know, a broken home growing up to seeing the worst of humanity in Iraq.
02:13Inside of my own head is honestly one of the scariest places that I can honestly think of,
02:18because that's where all my bad thoughts are.
02:21I love being a survival instructor.
02:24It is my therapy.
02:25Like, I have PTSD, and this is the one thing that's actually worked for me.
02:29You can have the best skills in the world, but if your mental game is not strong, survival skills don't
02:34matter.
02:35And there she is.
02:36Never quit is my life's mantra, and I've lived by it.
02:39It's not about what happens to us, it's about how you react, and I do not quit.
02:44All right, Botswana, see what you got.
02:51Here we go.
02:56Africa's Okavango Delta is located in the landlocked republic of Botswana,
03:02one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world.
03:05Here, the Okavango River Delta swells to create a vast inland wetland,
03:11attracting some of Africa's deadliest animals, including lions, hyenas, and stampeding herds of elephants
03:19that have trampled more than 100 people in the past decade.
03:22The region is also known for sudden and often explosive storms,
03:26causing searing daytime temperatures of over 100 degrees to plummet to near freezing at night,
03:32increasing the chances of both heat stroke and hypothermia.
03:36The rain and wetlands are also breeding vectors for malarial mosquitoes,
03:40and the dreaded tsetse fly, which carries a deadly parasite that causes sleeping sickness.
03:51I'm on my way to meet my partner.
03:56He or she, I have no idea.
04:00And let's see what they bring to the table.
04:03I am a workhorse.
04:05I will drive myself into the ground in order to provide for myself and mostly for my partner.
04:11I will go days without eating to make sure that my partner can go eat.
04:16I see one bag.
04:29All right, so I don't know what that means, but it looks like I might be by myself.
04:34So get my bow, get my arrows.
04:39In addition to his survival item, Tyler has also been given a fire starter and a pot.
04:44And I got the map.
04:47I am here, and I'm guessing I'm going to need to go to one of the only water sources on
04:55this map.
04:56When I first saw my bag by itself, my heart dropped.
05:03I wish I had a partner to share the load, but I've gone through life by myself alone,
05:10and this will be no different.
05:11To reach his water source, Tyler must trek four miles across the grasslands of the Okavango Delta
05:18under the searing afternoon sun, with temperatures soaring to triple digits.
05:29This landscape is definitely not Colorado at all.
05:34This tall grass, anything could be lurking in it.
05:38Lions, hyenas, leopards, all that stuff.
05:41They are masters at camouflage.
05:43They're the same color.
05:44They move completely still.
05:46And as far as I know, I'm being watched right now.
05:52Ooh .
05:55So I am in the red zone.
05:58This is a bunch of warthog dens.
06:03There are one, two, three, four, five, six warthog dens right in this concentrated area.
06:10Warthogs are no joke.
06:11They take out of those tunnels like a bat out of hell.
06:20F*** that.
06:25Honestly, the day is getting a little too short.
06:29The danger is going to be lurking around every corner.
06:33And f*** going to get real tonight.
06:37I think I'm going to have to make a boma for the night.
06:43See some coverage.
06:45This is good.
06:47A lot of spaces to fill.
06:48All this needs to be filled in.
06:49So more space, more material and more time and time I really don't have.
06:55With only two hours of daylight left and nearly one and a half miles from his water source,
07:01Tyler has decided to shelter for the night rather than push on through the delta in the dark.
07:06I don't plan on here any longer than just tonight.
07:12Right now, I have to worry about me because no one's coming to rescue me.
07:17It's just me and Botswana.
07:21I'm looking for acacia thorns.
07:23Big old gnarly suckers.
07:25There's one.
07:36I'm in desperate need of water.
07:39This is where having a partner would be really handy right now.
07:43It is a lot of extra work.
07:46A lot.
07:49Acacia thorn to the junk.
07:58I need to take a knee.
08:01Got lightheaded.
08:05Botswana heat.
08:06It's no joke.
08:07I got to get a water source tomorrow.
08:11That is priority number one.
08:14Otherwise, I don't walk out of here.
08:16It's either walking out of Victor or walking out here in a body bag.
08:23It's, it's, it's that, it's that serious right now.
08:34A lot of weird sounds out there.
08:37A lot of weird sounds.
08:45They're walking around.
08:47I don't know what it is, but definitely has my attention.
08:52That's for sure.
09:03I just heard something die.
09:08That was crazy sounding.
09:10And that wasn't too far away.
09:15I think what I'm hearing is African wild dogs.
09:22Botswana is home to one of the largest populations of black-backed jackals,
09:26sometimes referred to as wild dogs, that are a prevalent threat to the area.
09:32This place is nuts.
09:46There was a lot of gnarly things happening last night.
09:50Zero sleep.
09:54Have to be getting close.
09:56Have to be.
09:58Day two, need water.
10:00Let's go.
10:13Two days in the Botswana bush is definitely delivering the goods.
10:19It's challenging my feet.
10:21It's challenging my mind.
10:23It's challenging my spirit.
10:25I know that I'm putting on a brave face right now and everything,
10:29but I wish I had a partner to share these burdens with out here.
10:32The struggle, the discomfort.
10:34Don't want to do this alone in Botswana.
10:44I honestly don't know how long I've been walking.
10:46It's been well over an hour.
10:49It looks...
10:50Oh, thank God.
10:54Look at that.
10:56I got life.
10:59This is a huge relief.
11:01I'm sunburnt.
11:03I'm here out in the open getting fried, but guess what?
11:07I got water, baby.
11:09Oh, it's nice and cool.
11:12This is a great spot for a boma.
11:16Not too far away from the water source,
11:18but far enough away to be out of harm's way from the animals.
11:32Is there another naked human?
11:39I can hear some noises coming from that distance.
11:44I'm really hoping that's my partner and not part of the wildlife.
11:52Is there another naked human?
11:54Oh, my God.
11:57Oh, thank God.
12:00I'm Tyler.
12:01Are you a hugger?
12:01Yeah.
12:02So grateful to see you.
12:04I'm Holly.
12:07My name's Holly.
12:08I'm from Byron Bay, Australia.
12:10I'm 25 and I'm a bushcraft and survival instructor.
12:15All righty, this is it.
12:17Let's go.
12:20This is going to be one of the hardest things I've ever done.
12:22It's going to be challenging.
12:23It's going to hurt and there's going to be rough patches,
12:26but that's what I signed up for.
12:28And that's what I'm ready to take on.
12:29I can actually see my bag, but there's no partner.
12:33It's a little bit strange.
12:34It wasn't what I was expecting.
12:35It's definitely throwing a spanner in the work.
12:40I'm already exhausted from the day, but I've got to keep pushing
12:43because my priority is being safe tonight so I can get my sleep
12:47because if my sleep falls apart on day one,
12:49this is just going to be a downward slope.
12:51It's the middle of night one.
12:53I haven't slept very well at all, but I mean,
12:55I'm on the other side of the world.
12:56I'm completely alone in Africa.
12:59So I'm thinking I can trail along the edge in the shade
13:02until I can land in that waterhole spot.
13:05Starting to really think about, you know,
13:07is there going to be a partner at the other end of this?
13:10So it's just, just you?
13:11Just me?
13:12You and yourself?
13:12Yeah.
13:13Is it just you?
13:13Yeah.
13:15Honestly, I didn't have a water source yesterday.
13:20Oh no, have you not drunk anything?
13:21Uh, not really.
13:24I've got a pot.
13:24I've got you covered.
13:25Already boiled?
13:26Yeah.
13:27Oh my gosh.
13:28Yeah.
13:29Yes.
13:30Can I take a drink?
13:31Go for it, please.
13:38You must be so thirsty.
13:40What are your items?
13:42Uh, yeah, I brought a bow.
13:43Um, thank goodness.
13:45Yeah.
13:45Well, I've got my machete, so see how we go.
13:48And I'm a survival instructor.
13:50Oh my goodness.
13:51I have like the Australian version.
13:53I'm a survival instructor too.
13:54Really?
13:54Yeah.
13:55What the ?
13:57I'm Australia's youngest independent owner and operator
14:00of a bush survival school.
14:03I definitely feel the pressure of my reputation on the line.
14:06I take what I do so seriously.
14:08We need to take care of the basics, get the BOMA set up.
14:12A lot of people underestimate me.
14:14They see me as someone who's not as competent or not as capable as others,
14:18but I don't care what people say.
14:20I'm someone who's willing to do anything.
14:22I will scavenge.
14:23I will hunt.
14:24I don't stop.
14:25I don't give up.
14:26And I just try my absolute best with everything that I do and always give 100%.
14:30Oh my God.
14:32I am absolutely ecstatic.
14:34I literally feel like I have like this renewed energy.
14:37Like I can take on anything with my teammate now.
14:40Wow.
14:41Oh, so I honestly, I just, I just got to this location.
14:44Really?
14:45Yeah.
14:45And so I got, I already got a site for a BOMA and everything.
14:48Amazing.
14:48I'm so relieved as a partner here.
14:50I don't have to rely on myself.
14:52I can bounce energy off him and see how we go.
14:55Let's do it.
15:00I was thinking, you know, these are kind of like anchor points.
15:03Yep.
15:04And we just got to fill in the gaps.
15:05Easy.
15:06So you're just thinking surrounding this area?
15:09We can just get in many as, uh, caches as we, as we need.
15:13And then, uh, we can just supplement with stripped Mopani.
15:16Holly and Tyler will use the semicircle of trees to form the perimeter of their BOMA
15:22and add layers of branches, leaves for insulation, and a ring of thick acacia thorns
15:28for protection against predators.
15:30I couldn't ask for a better partner right now.
15:32She's a survival instructor.
15:34Like for me, that is an awesome, awesome asset that I have here.
15:38And now I have a partner to share these burdens with out here.
15:41The struggle, the discomfort, I have someone to communicate with.
15:45You doing all right?
15:46Yeah, now we're all good.
15:47It's just hot.
15:50I feel ya.
15:55We actually might have a little bit of the structure built for our, uh, shade.
16:01Holly?
16:02I'm just about to throw up.
16:04Oh, okay.
16:08Yeah, uh, keep sitting.
16:14You got it.
16:18We just gotta make it to, to tonight.
16:20Yeah.
16:20We'll get out of that heat.
16:22Oh, I'm not.
16:22I know I'll be right.
16:24It's just the initial.
16:25Hmm?
16:25It's just that, this initial wave, but I know I'll be fine.
16:55You're an angel, thank you so much.
16:58Anything come up?
16:59Yeah, a little bit.
17:07Well, Holly is not feeling well at all.
17:13I get it.
17:14It's brutally hot out here.
17:16It's just, like, I feel like my whole body's just, like, shutting down.
17:22And it's just fighting that, because it's, like, it means so much to be out here.
17:25And I really want to do well.
17:27It's just everything just hurts so much.
17:35Can I touch your back?
17:36Yes.
17:40Grace and gratitude.
17:41I am, though she's down, but I know she's not out.
17:46And that's it.
17:48I know she'll be back in the fight tomorrow.
17:51Nothing to worry about.
17:53We're not out of the woods yet.
17:54I got to get this bumble built.
17:56I just get that little bit more boost.
18:00A little bit more energy to give.
18:03And, because, honestly, who knows?
18:05Tomorrow, it's me.
18:06And she has to do it.
18:07So, hopefully, she will show me the same type of grace.
18:13Almost there, Holly.
18:15You're doing so amazing.
18:19Is that thunder?
18:22Oh, my God.
18:26It may be raining here fairly soon.
18:32It's already started.
18:40Talking about the land of extremes.
18:42It was blistering hot all day long.
18:45Now we're looking at potential hypothermia.
18:54Oh, .
18:55Look at this wall.
18:57You can hear it hit the trees.
18:59Look at that clearing.
19:00We're about to get downpoured on.
19:09Oh, you can literally see that wall of rain coming.
19:21Yeah, just tuck in.
19:31Holy , this is not what I was expecting.
19:41Oh, wow.
19:44You could be in trouble, yeah.
19:47Holy .
19:49Right?
19:54Yeah, I ain't .
20:00Now, lightning.
20:02Worry about lightning.
20:07How's the fire doing?
20:09Uh, struggling.
20:11Okay.
20:18This fire is definitely our lifeline.
20:21It's everything.
20:22It has to stay alive.
20:25It's not, we don't know how long this is going to last.
20:32So, it could, this could be all night long.
20:35And our firewood's already wet, so hopefully we can dry it out in between.
20:40It's going to be fine.
20:44Hmm.
20:50Ahh!
20:52Ah!
20:52,
20:58.
21:03Yeah!
21:05.
21:09.
21:13I can't keep up with that.
21:25All right.
21:26Come on, stop.
21:41Stop, you son of a bitch.
21:44You got it.
21:45Yeah, we can.
21:51We can, we will, we must.
21:55We can.
21:57You got it.
22:06Right now.
22:16So, no joke.
22:19It was an absolute show.
22:22A serious amount of rain.
22:24A serious amount of cold.
22:27That was scary.
22:30But, as you can see, we got the fire relit.
22:33We got it going strong.
22:35I hope there's not a round two.
22:51I cannot fall asleep for the life of me.
22:55I don't think I can express how much of a mind it is.
23:00I'm going insane.
23:02Ha ha ha ha.
23:05What's the night?
23:16Ha ha ha ha.
23:17Ha ha ha ha.
23:45Third day in a row with absolutely zero sleep.
24:03I can't have another night like last night.
24:07Sandflies and mosquitoes torture the out of me.
24:11And for me, it's just a 12-hour torture session.
24:15Every time those things bite, it like sends like this electric jolt through my body.
24:21You okay?
24:22Not really.
24:23You're doing so well.
24:26It's awkward.
24:28I know it's hard, but we'll get there.
24:34Some things are beyond my capacity.
24:40Absolutely.
24:43I struggle with PTSD.
24:45Yeah.
24:46And just not having the ability to sleep, I get intrusive thoughts.
24:54It's really hard.
25:01It's all good.
25:01We've got a solution.
25:02We're going to get off the ground.
25:03We're going to make a bed.
25:04If we can get proper sleep every night and not as sore from these bug bites, it's going
25:10to make it so much more comfortable for the rest of the challenge.
25:12I think it's worth putting the effort in.
25:14100%.
25:14Where you helped me on day two.
25:16Like, I hope that I can help you today.
25:19And if you want to chill, like, you're so welcome.
25:26I'm happy to chop, like, every single little one.
25:30There's no sleep again.
25:32Like, it's absolutely brutal for him.
25:34It's just put him in a really difficult position.
25:36I just pray that this raised bed works because I can't.
25:47Just come back.
25:49So, to make this bed, to get it all up and running, it's just going to be a little bit
25:52off the ground.
25:53So, that way we're above that level.
25:55We're not sure if they're mosquitoes or sand flies.
25:57Heaps of grass stacked on top.
25:58Like, we've only got mapani to work with around here.
26:00It's really dense wood.
26:02It's going to take a lot of calories to build this thing.
26:04But just getting it comfortable, getting it raised.
26:06And hopefully, as long as we're out of the line of all of those, like, biting animals, I think it's
26:11going to be way easier.
26:13It's looking really good.
26:36Sleepless nights, too.
26:39Torrential downpours.
26:40Torrential downpours.
26:42No food.
26:49Dammit.
27:02And did you feel like your bed made a difference at all?
27:06No, it's, uh, they ate me alive.
27:12It just feels like torture.
27:14Yeah, it is.
27:15It's, it's, it's a type of mental torture that you can feel physically.
27:22It's, it's, I don't know, it's like a darkness that starts washing over you.
27:28I don't necessarily feel safe anymore.
27:32I don't know.
27:33Me staying out here any longer is like playing with the snake.
27:37I don't want to get bit, I don't want anybody else to get bit.
27:39I don't want Holly to witness that.
27:42She is just an absolute gem.
27:45I usually try to tough it out.
27:47Yeah.
27:47Mentally, physically.
27:50Uh, this one, I don't think, uh, it's safe for me to do that here.
27:55Okay.
27:55No way.
27:59It's okay.
28:03Today is my last day.
28:07Um, just out of safety wise.
28:14I, I feel bad that I'm leaving Holly.
28:16She's a pretty amazing individual.
28:19To only be in my life just for a few days and make such an impact.
28:27I'm glad I met her.
28:29I'm going to leave you with everything, including my bow, if you want it.
28:33I'll keep the arrows, but I'm going to send you, give you back the bow.
28:36Just because I prefer making traps.
28:38It's a gorgeous bow though.
28:40Here you go.
28:43Okay.
28:45You're looking for yourself.
28:47You too.
28:49And you'll go at least 21, I know that.
28:51I'm sorry.
28:54I think with this challenge, like, we see the strongest people bro.
28:58And that's for a massive reason, like, what Tyler's going through at the moment.
29:02And it's like, I just, I'm really hurting for him because I know, I can see how capable
29:06he is.
29:07When you haven't slept for days and you're running around the bush naked with a machete,
29:11you can see how that's concerned.
29:13Safety comes first and the success of my partner should come first also.
29:18Because pride, pride can get people killed out here, especially in Africa.
29:23Yeah.
29:25After four days in the African wild, Tyler's PSR drops from 7.2 to 6.3.
29:35It's going to be a long two weeks if I'm out here alone.
29:39But I want to be here.
29:40It's a privilege to be here.
29:42It was a choice.
29:43And I'm going to be just so grateful for it until that last moment, whether that's extraction
29:47or whether it's a medical tap out.
30:04The mosquitoes have been something that I've been, like, coping with, but tonight there
30:11is something different about them.
30:13It's like, it's a lot.
30:18I hope my fire doesn't go out.
30:21You know, when there's no one else in here, it's like no one else has got your back.
30:32My body's just in so much pain and it's because, like, I'm not eating anything.
30:38I can't.
30:39I haven't got the calories in to heal.
30:41All the sores and scabs I now have in my body is so brutal and it's so painful.
30:47It's so hard.
31:02Honestly, the mosquitoes are still horrendous.
31:05They are the worst.
31:06Look at the audacity.
31:08I've never gone this long without eating before.
31:11I haven't got a bow.
31:12I haven't got a spear.
31:13I haven't got anything else like that.
31:14So the remaining 16 days, I haven't got weight to burn out here.
31:19I can't rely on just starving myself and, like, an endurance thing.
31:23So my plan is getting as many traps set up as possible.
31:27So I'm just looking at, like, tracks at the moment for animals for activity in this area.
31:33So there's some prints through here.
31:35Yeah, I think it's a spring hare with that more triangle shape.
31:38I don't personally know African animals very well, but it looks like it's about that size.
31:44What I'm doing here is I like to use a clove hitch.
31:48And my goal is that it's going to hit the chest of the animal.
31:52And that's what's going to close it shut.
31:54I'm getting everything done.
31:55It's very methodical.
31:57You know, the way we train and everything that I teach at my school, it works in real life.
32:05I always say in my schools, you can spend three days chasing a kangaroo.
32:10Or you can spend a day making decent traps.
32:14I really want to get a bird trap set.
32:16There's a lot of birds around and, like, there's a lot more meat on them for one.
32:20Like, they last me three days.
32:22It's, you know, I know I can use every part of that animal.
32:25Last night I just made a couple metres of cordage because I figured that once I get to the spot
32:30that I want to set up in,
32:31I can immediately go and set a bird trap.
32:33Like, it's a really passive thing I can do for, like, a really big outcome.
32:36So these are like a sour plum pretty much.
32:39And they're way too sour to eat at the moment.
32:42But they're perfect for bait.
32:43I hope that we can trap some birds with it.
32:52Alright, so no luck on the trap here today.
32:57Except for that bird sitting right next to it.
33:01I'm going to go check my snares.
33:07Nothing here.
33:09This has actually been disturbed.
33:11So all I'm going to do is just re-pop it back open.
33:16It's one of those things of, like, I can just crack and go,
33:19no, I'm too hungry to do this.
33:21I can't go another day.
33:23But just got to stick it out sometimes.
33:31These walks, when I head out in the morning to do my trap lines,
33:35it's something that's, like, I always just get excited about
33:37because it's, like, the idea of food.
33:39But, I mean, they can be incredibly disappointing.
33:42No.
33:43Not looking good.
33:46So there's actually feathers in here.
33:48So something was definitely in here.
33:51But, you know, whether it got out, like, whether it was a really small bird,
33:56it's hard to say.
34:06That one hasn't been disturbed.
34:10Nothing for this one either.
34:11Yeah.
34:17Empty.
34:20Incredibly disappointing.
34:22It's pretty hard to get around when you feel depleted and exhausted all the time.
34:26So I hope they can come across something that makes it worthwhile.
34:30There's really not a lot of opportunity left.
34:37Not having food, for me, has made this extremely challenging.
34:42It's like sitting here starving when you're already underweight
34:46is a brutal experience.
35:04Oh, my gosh.
35:09What?
35:12Something has gotten to it during the night.
35:18I'm actually shocked.
35:20It's a little spring here.
35:22And it's been here.
35:23Like, you can see the holes there and it's all over here.
35:27So something has dragged it and eaten its leg out.
35:32But there is so much meat on this.
35:35And I was literally just sitting there thinking, like,
35:37oh, my God, if I don't get food, like, what am I going to do?
35:39You know, this is, there's so much bone marrow in this.
35:42There's so much meat.
35:43This is going to keep me for another two, three days guaranteed out here.
35:49Like, my biggest challenge out here is food.
35:52It's such a beautiful animal, so I'm so, so grateful.
35:56When you've been, like, so hungry and just, like, pushing so hard every single day
36:00and just hoping for the best, it's like, it's just an enormous win.
36:06Alrighty.
36:07So I've just cooked up all the organs, like the red organs for my little spring hair.
36:12Got my little kidney here.
36:14Just ready to try it.
36:18No, that's so good.
36:21That's, I know that's going to help me so much out here.
36:26I don't think I've had a drumstick this big in life in general.
36:32So, yeah.
36:38Oh my God.
36:40So roasted, I recalls.
36:42Like, she's perfect.
36:45This next level.
36:49I'm so grateful.
36:53Oh, they're so proud of me.
36:55It's really hard.
36:57I've been really happy, but I wish she was here to see it.
37:01Last year, my late partner, he taught me everything I know and he actually passed away as a result of
37:06a snake attack.
37:08Carrying that with me is really heavy, but it's a very valuable lesson that no matter how skilled you are,
37:14anything can happen while you're out here and you don't know when your last time is and you've got to
37:18make the most of it.
37:20Very good. Nice.
37:26Kiss Holly.
37:29When Paul passed away, like that could have absolutely broken me.
37:32Like that could have destroyed me and I could have, you know, still been in bed doing nothing.
37:37I chose to pursue bushcraft and my skill set and it's just brought me so much joy and value in
37:44life
37:44and it's really taught me that no matter what hardship I'm going through,
37:47like as long as I see it from a positive perspective, you know, it makes things a hell of a
37:53lot easier.
38:19It's just, my body's burning.
38:22I just feel like I've just scratched and scratched and scratched and it's honestly like so horrific.
38:32I think we just all have different limits and it's for me when I'm getting bites on top of bites
38:38is like my line.
38:45I think it's that emotional exhaustion part that's kind of hit me.
38:48It's just like when you're on your own doing absolutely everything.
38:52Like right now it's just my body aches, everything hurts and I'm just so exhausted.
38:58So I'm hoping like I can just get something popped up in my trap lines.
39:04It'd be amazing because any extra energy would just so appreciate it right now.
39:18Oh my gosh.
39:24To be able to cut this little spring hair outfit for extraction,
39:27I know that I get to walk out feeling a little bit more like myself.
39:30So what I'm looking for is to have it as clean as possible.
39:33I just haven't seen any bones or rocks or even a stone to lay it on to scrape it with
39:39my knife.
39:40I'm pretty sure I'm going to be the first person to use my hunting tool as an outfit.
39:45So this is sort of where we're at and what I've done is added a weave.
39:49It's a basket weaving technique similar to cordage making across to try and get it to like finally sit flat.
39:55So this is my skirt.
39:58Final piece of it all.
40:00Of course accessories, you can never have enough.
40:13Oh my gosh.
40:17There's actually a bird in here.
40:22No way.
40:25Oh my darling.
40:29I'm so, so grateful.
40:32Something must have killed it.
40:33Which is so beautiful.
40:36Like I need this to stay out here.
40:38Like this is going to be my everything.
40:41You know, it's going to keep me out here for another few days.
40:44So it means the absolute world to me.
40:47So I'm planning on boiling this so I get absolutely every little bit of nutrients out of the bones,
40:52the necks, the organs, all those sort of things.
40:54I've got my little drumstick leg just roasting over the coals here.
41:09So good.
41:11You know, I was really scared coming to this end of this challenge because you eventually I'm so in it.
41:15But physically my body was like, it was struggling.
41:18It was hurting.
41:19It's such good meat.
41:21I think I'm definitely going to be eating more of this in the future.
41:24Because I can just feel how good it is for my body and it just tastes delicious.
41:31So I can see the sun popping up over the horizon, which means it's officially day 21 baby.
41:39We are getting out of here today and I couldn't be more thrilled.
41:52So I just need to check out this map to make sure.
41:55It's going to be heading in the right direction for this.
41:57It's going to be quite warm, so I hope they can get through pretty quickly.
42:01It's a long way to go.
42:02Better get moving.
42:03I think.
42:06To reach her extraction point, Holly will hike through a dense mapani tree forest.
42:11And then trek across exposed grassland, where a pride of lions stalk and venomous puff adder shelter during the heat
42:19of the day.
42:25I just really want to get this done in the cooler weather as quick as possible.
42:29So while it's really manageable, I'm just trying to get a good pace going.
42:34So I do have a plan in place.
42:36I have made some clothing to just protect myself from exposure a little bit.
42:40From being here, I can tell that very quickly it's going to be warm again.
42:44I'm going to be facing that heat exhaustion and I really don't want to do that twice.
42:48So just trying to make the most of the early start.
42:52I know it's not going to be for too long.
42:59Seeing the open plains.
43:04So, according to my map, I need to cross this.
43:08There's still a really long way to go to the forest afterwards.
43:11But, you know, I'm just going to have to keep moving because it's going to get really hot on this
43:15open field soon.
43:16I'm just going to keep on pushing through with it.
43:26The pot's feeling pretty heavy.
43:29You know, it's one of the downsides, but it's worth it.
43:33My muscles are all deteriorated and it's like harder to carry things.
43:36It is a little bit frustrating to like have to lug that around, but, you know, I know it's really
43:41important that I have water with me and stay hydrated.
43:47The heat's starting to pick up.
43:49I don't want to be caught out in these open plains for too long.
43:54It's really hard, like, because this challenge means so much to me and I don't want to disappoint Paul.
44:00I knew I was coming in here underway.
44:01I knew that I was coming up against a lot of things, but he would just tell me to keep
44:05going.
44:06Like, he'd tell me how strong and capable I am and no one believed in me more than him.
44:09So, you know, I can't back down now. I've got to keep going.
44:14The long grass is definitely the hardest part about all of this to move through.
44:18Like, it's a very uneven surface.
44:20It's just a lot, you don't really know where you're going half the time.
44:29So I just have to be really mindful as I keep going not to hurt myself, but I've been walking
44:33for a while now and I feel like I'm getting there.
44:43Oh my god. No way!
44:46Oh, it's gorgeous. There is my ride out of here.
44:50Oh my gosh. No way.
44:54I really want to run, but like, this savannah, I don't think I could run if I wanted to.
44:59This is amazing. It's like the icing on the cake. Like, you know, it has been so hard the last
45:0521 days.
45:07I just walk out and just see it. Like, I just can't believe it's finally here and it's all come
45:15together.
45:22Oh my goodness.
45:28Thank you, Botswana.
45:35It was so challenging, especially on my own.
45:37You know, I had no one to hide behind, no one to come and save me, but I just got
45:40on with it and did it.
45:41So I'm just really thrilled. It's finally all here.
45:45After conquering 16 days solo in Botswana, Holly lost 18 pounds.
45:51Her PSR gains a boost from 7.3 to 7.5.
45:57Paul trained me so well for this challenge. Like, it's, it was like his final passing was like, teaching me
46:03these skills.
46:04And now I get to carry this on to the next group, the next generation.
46:08And, you know, it feels so special that like, I hope that I made him proud.
46:11I know that he would love that I was here and he'd have no doubt that I reached this point.
46:18I just completed 21 days in Botswana.
46:24Go Botswana!
