00:01Apple brandy.
00:02This time on Moonshiners.
00:04There's a huge shortage of American liquor up in Canada.
00:07What liquor is more American than apple pie?
00:11I don't know man, I think we got a problem right here.
00:13But these apples are already starting
00:15to ferment on their own.
00:17It's wild yeast, man.
00:18Bad for flavor-wise.
00:19Dang.
00:21We're wanted man, son.
00:23They want us for a robbery.
00:24Spending all your life making moonshine, you know,
00:27always trying to dodge that bullet.
00:28I'd say 50 pounds is all we need.
00:30You're always looking over your shoulders.
00:32Lo and behold, you've caught with your britches down.
00:34What are y'all doing these mccashing again?
00:37Hey, old boy's back.
00:38He's here.
00:39Shoot the head.
00:41Hopefully we can shut this rat down once and for all.
00:44There's his temper and water, Judge.
00:46I ain't sure of a lot, but one thing I can promise you,
00:49this man ain't going to walk around the free man much longer.
00:51We got to stop him permanently.
00:55This is how we make the moonshine.
01:10Mark, you should be around here somewhere.
01:12They got plenty of apples.
01:13Oh, yeah.
01:13I wonder which ones is ours.
01:15In Franklin County, Virginia, teaming up with Tim to supply a pipeline of tariff-free liquor to Canada,
01:21Tickle and Henry visit their local fruit purveyor for the key ingredient
01:26in Appalachia's most popular fall season export.
01:30Mark.
01:30What's up, Bubba?
01:31We got the whole crew here.
01:32What y'all doing today?
01:34We need some apples, man.
01:35There's not only a shortage of good white liquor up in Canada.
01:38Go out the front door here.
01:40All right.
01:40But there's a shortage of brandy as well.
01:43So we're going to go pick us up some apples and we're going to do everything we can to see
01:47if we can't
01:48get some brandy sent up here to Canada as fast as possible.
01:51What do you got, Phil, this big guy?
01:53I got you a bin of golds.
01:55I'm kind of glad that you're using these.
01:58Well, we've never used them before, man.
01:59That's what I'm concerned about.
02:01We've always used wine sap, stuff like that.
02:03You know, Mark, he's always taking good care of me,
02:05but I've never used golden delicious apples before.
02:08They've got a good flavor to them.
02:10Good and sweet, too.
02:12A lot of sugar in them.
02:13I think they'll turn better juice and everything like that for you.
02:17It's the soil makes a world of difference on fruit.
02:20Mountain dirt versus down in the flats.
02:23The apple's grown in the mountain here a whole lot better for them.
02:25Oh, absolutely.
02:26Mm-hmm.
02:26Absolutely.
02:27We call it the mountain twang to it.
02:29It ain't completely sweet.
02:31It's got a little twang to it.
02:32Sounds good, man.
02:34All right, so what's the damage here?
02:35Oh, 200.
02:36That's the best I could do this year.
02:38Yeah.
02:42That ain't terrible.
02:42We got to run some.
02:45All right, let's do it.
02:46Can you guys load it up?
02:47Thank you, Robert.
02:48Appreciate it.
02:50We're lucky that we got these apples,
02:52so what we got to do now is get them back to the house,
02:55get them ground up, get them mashed in,
02:57and do whatever we got to do to get this brandy mash worked off,
03:01because we don't want to miss this opportunity right here.
03:18Oh, man.
03:21I'm working on a little steel for a guy.
03:23I've got some exciting news, brother.
03:25You know my home place I've always told you about, I was raised up in, that I miss it?
03:29Well, it's come up for sale really. I'm looking to try to buy it back. I want to anyway
03:34You got a few pictures of it. Yeah, man. That's the house right there. I like it
03:38You know got a big front porch on it. Yeah, my grandpa built that house for us
03:42I think you should buy it. Well, I want to but the thing is man
03:46I've got to come up with a lot of money over that ridge right there over that hill down in
03:50that holler
03:51Where I used to run all my liquor at matter of fact that steel is in that pond right now
03:56That's when you sunk in that pond? That's the one I sunk in the pond. Yeah, when the law got
04:00in after me
04:01Didn't you have to shoot it full of holes or something? Shot it full of holes and sunk it to
04:04the bottom of it
04:05Sure did. I'm gonna tell you what man things don't come like that off very often
04:08That's kind of a once-in-a-lifetime thing to get your home place back
04:11I've got five thousand right now saved up, but I need to come up with ten more to make the
04:16down payment for it
04:17Ten thousand. Some people ain't pocket change, but to us, you know, it's a lot of money
04:21There's no way in this world. I'm letting my home place get out of my reach right now
04:25That's priority and it means everything to me. We need to make some money fast
04:29I say we actually go get us some kind of ingredients so get a mash mashed in
04:33Let's get that part secured and done and while that's working off then we can concentrate on getting this other
04:38stuff sold
04:38As long as we're working and trying to get rid of liquor every day that we can so that's that
04:43day
04:44I don't care how it happens long as it happens
04:56Man
04:59Oh my god
05:00Well, we know a lot more than we did
05:03In Cock County, Tennessee after identifying the man who betrayed them to the law
05:09Two weeks ago on a Monday about 545 he was here
05:12He's been here multiple times
05:14It's usually between five and six, correct?
05:16Yes
05:17Mark Digger and Josh plot to catch the rat once and for all
05:21We're just at the point now that we've got to stop his forward progress
05:25Well, I'm so damn angry right now, I just don't even
05:28This son of a bitch got my underground steel site raided
05:32All my equipment confiscated
05:34And cost me thousands of dollars in sales
05:37You're taking my steel, Henry
05:39Yep
05:39Clean, you can put it down
05:41Yeah, that's it
05:41It's all for swarms, taps
05:43This ain't happening
05:46I mean, can't we just snatch him somehow and just beat the piss out of him
05:49Well, that's just a temporary fix
05:52We've got to stop him permanent
05:54If you think about it, Bobcat
05:56They'll sit here and they'll watch for turkeys
05:58Until they come off the roost in the morning
06:00Then they climb that tree and they wait on him to come back to roost
06:03And then they spring a trap on him
06:04We're going to do the same damn thing
06:06We've got to stake out that phone
06:09And follow him back to wherever he goes to
06:12So you want me to go sit over there and watch?
06:14Just keep giving him enough rope
06:16He's got enough to snare his own self
06:18Me and Mark's got to run a liquor
06:19We've got to finish up
06:20We've got that apple wheat mash
06:22And it's ready
06:22Follow him, find out where he's going, okay?
06:25Don't jump out on him when you find him
06:27See, I'll go make that run of liquor
06:28I'll sit and watch this fella
06:29I'll get all the info I can
06:31I'm going to do anything I can to get this to stop
06:33If you go do what you've got to do
06:35We're going to do what we need to do
06:36That's all I can do
06:37Not to want to break this dude's bones
06:39It really is
06:40He ought to be thankful that we're not those folks
06:42This guy comes back this phone
06:44I'm going to be waiting for him
06:45And I'm going to follow him wherever he goes
06:54Jerry, I don't think we can go wrong, man
06:55By doing our aged whiskey
06:57I mean, who out there don't like good aged whiskey?
07:00Nobody we've found so far
07:02I've got to get $10,000 made up quick
07:05Less than 30 days here
07:06My home place is on the market in Mississippi
07:08I cannot let this slip through my fingers
07:10I've got to try to get it bought quick
07:13Me and Jerry's got a plan now
07:14We're going to make our aged whiskey
07:16Everybody loves that stuff
07:17And we can make this stuff fast
07:19As long as it'll bring the money that we need
07:22To help you get your house back
07:25Right now, that's all that matters
07:26Is getting it done by that deadline
07:29That's all me and Jerry's got to do now
07:30Head out, get our corn bought
07:32And our wheat bought
07:33And sugar
07:34Get in the woods
07:35Get it mashed in
07:36And get this aged whiskey on the road
07:38We've got to get some gas
07:39Because we are about out
07:41And Lord God
07:42We don't want to run out of push water
07:47You want a honey bun and a chocolate milk or something?
07:49Yeah, man, that sounds good
07:50Why don't you go and pay for about 40 spot
07:51The gas
07:5240 in gas, all right
07:53Yeah, I got you
07:54Yep
07:55Mike's got to put a down payment on this house
07:56By the end of the month
07:57So maybe he's going to work harder
07:59And stay out there longer
08:00And actually be able to make us more money
08:06What, are you looking for a new job or something, man?
08:08A new job in my butt
08:10We're wanted man, son
08:14That's us standing there picking that freaking lock
08:16Come from the speakeasy
08:18Hurry up, get us in here
08:19All right, got it
08:21Get in, get in
08:22Go, go, go, go
08:22Liquor's in here somewhere
08:29Oh my God
08:31This reward photo has a picture of me and Jerry
08:34Breaking into the speakeasy
08:35To get all that liquor back out of there
08:37The liquor that we retrieved back from the biker bar
08:39We had it there on consignment
08:41But it got busted
08:42So we went in there and got our liquor back
08:44We've got a problem, man
08:46Oh my God
08:47You can tell that's me standing there for sure, Jerry
08:50You spend all your life making moonshine
08:52You know, of course, being an outlaw
08:54But you're always trying to dodge that bullet
08:56You're always looking over your shoulder
08:58Taking extra precaution to keep yourself out of trouble
09:02And lo and behold, you walk into a gas station
09:04There's a big picture of you and your partner
09:06Caught with your britches down
09:09So obviously we can't go get no daggum corn and wheat, man
09:11What are we going to do from here?
09:13Man, I have no idea
09:15It's always risky buying mash ingredients
09:17Buying bulk sugar, bulk grain
09:19That generally only means one thing
09:21And people notice what you're fixing to start doing
09:23Not just the corn and wheat, man
09:25But what we're going to do about sugar
09:26We've got to have sugar
09:27Cops are on the hunt for two suspected moonshiners
09:29That fit the description on this reward poster
09:31And even though you can't positively identify me and Jerry
09:34In that reward poster
09:35We don't need to be taking any chances out there
09:38Showing ourselves around town
09:39I mean, regardless of this
09:41We've still got to make a run happen
09:43I've got a deadline to meet
09:45And I intend to make it
09:46Unless I'm in jail somewhere
09:55We'll hit the mother of getting these apples this cheap
09:57Period
09:58Yeah, yeah, at all
09:59They are beautiful too, man
10:01With all the pterasone liquor heading to Canada
10:04Prices are just unaffordable
10:06But let's face it
10:07There's still a high demand for American liquor
10:10And what's more American than apple pie?
10:13We'll stick it up here on the tailgate of this truck
10:15So what are we going to do?
10:16We're going to put it in a jar
10:18In apple pie brandy form
10:20Now we're already set
10:22To send our Canadian buyer
10:24Tons of corn liquor here
10:25In just a couple of weeks
10:26Adding a run of apple pie brandy
10:28Is just going to boost our profit
10:32What are you talking about?
10:34One pull!
10:35Hey!
10:38While this machine is a very old machine
10:41I pulled this thing once
10:43And it fired right up
10:46This grinder right here
10:47Works better than any other grinder
10:49I've ever ground apples up with
10:51I mean, there's literal applesauce
10:54Pouring out of this thing
10:55And every other grinder we've ever used
10:57I've had to at least chop the apples in half
11:00Before I could even get them in it
11:01We're dumping buckets of apples in this thing
11:04At a time
11:09That's more than enough
11:10She just quit on us
11:12You know, Henry?
11:13Yeah
11:13That looks like an old spark plug in it
11:16I might have a plug over here
11:17Yeah
11:21All right
11:21It was running good
11:22I don't know, man
11:24I think we got a problem right here
11:25What do you mean we got us a problem?
11:26Did you put yeast in it when we walked away?
11:28No, I didn't put no yeast in it
11:30When y'all walked away
11:32Paige happens to notice
11:33That these apples are already starting
11:35To ferment on their own
11:37Well, I can tell y'all right now
11:39What that is
11:40What?
11:40It's wild yeast, man
11:42You know, is that good or bad?
11:44It can be bad for flavor-wise
11:46I thought yeast was just yeast
11:47Well, see, the whole thing with us
11:48We got a special family blend
11:50Right
11:50Yeast that we use
11:51Especially for brandies
11:53Right
11:54Yeah
11:54Throw that wild yeast in there
11:55And then try and throw our yeast in there
11:58It's sometimes what's going to come out of this
11:59I know one thing
12:00It's not going to come out
12:01Like our family brandies do
12:03We've got a yeast mix
12:05That we've been using for years
12:06Just for brandy
12:07And that's what I want to make sure
12:09That we use here
12:09Because when we go to Canada
12:11With this liquor
12:12This brandy
12:12I want it to be the best of the best
12:14Dang, I didn't even think about that
12:16Wild yeast kicking in
12:17You sure this ain't a good sign?
12:19This is just going to work off good
12:20It'll work off
12:21But the flavor's not going to be there
12:23We add water that's hot enough
12:25We cool it back down to the right temperature
12:27Before we put our yeast in there
12:28I think we should be good
12:30That sounds like a plan
12:31We're going to have to boil some water
12:32Put it in there
12:33Cook it in
12:33Kill it
12:34Kill the wild yeast
12:36It's not an ideal fix
12:37But we've got two options right here
12:40We can either leave the wild yeast in
12:43And risk an off-putting taste in our brandy
12:46Or we can put the hot water in
12:47And kill off the wild yeast
12:49Try and stir all that around
12:52But then we risk killing off certain compounds
12:55That give the brandy its fruity, crisp flavor
12:57And if that happens
12:58There's no fixing it
13:00It's definitely a cool down
13:02Ready to pitch that yeast?
13:04Yeah, yeah, yeah
13:04This is going to be our first run to Canada
13:07And we want the best of the best
13:08You're right about that
13:15Man, I tell you what
13:16I don't know what they were going to do
13:17I know one thing I don't want to do
13:20End up in jail
13:21You know, this whole reward poster
13:23Has put me and Jerry back a little bit
13:25You know, we can't stay around here
13:26And resource our corn and wheat
13:27For our aged whiskey
13:28With the end of the month coming up
13:30We're trying to figure out
13:31What can we do
13:33To make this happen
13:35Needing $10,000
13:36We've got to come up with a plan
13:38What else kind of alcohol
13:40Have we done
13:40It's been a good seller
13:41We know our straight
13:42Hadn't been selling good at all
13:43Here lately
13:44No
13:45It's going to have to be something flavoring
13:46The aged whiskey would have been the best
13:48Because it's a neutral deal
13:49People buy that year-round
13:52But you know what
13:53To make anything
13:53We still need sugar
13:56You're right there
13:57But sugar's sugar, right?
13:59Well, I mean
14:00In most sense
14:00There's a whole lot of different types of sugars
14:02Yeah
14:04I got an idea
14:04Come with me
14:06You know, I wouldn't call Jerry a hoarder
14:08But would I be surprised
14:09If he had a big old stack of sugar in his shop
14:17Okay, he's definitely a hoarder
14:19This better be good, man
14:21I mean, it's been here a few months
14:22But I think it'll be worth it
14:24A few months?
14:25What is this?
14:27So I've done a job for a guy
14:28He had to start a candy store
14:29And he had one of his machines
14:30It was messed up
14:31So I fixed it for him
14:33And, of course, he ran up a bill
14:34Right
14:35And he said, well, I don't
14:36Putting all this money in the store
14:37I really don't have that kind of money
14:40I don't know, if you're ready for this or not
14:45What is it?
14:5155 gallons of pure caramel
14:55Oh, my God, Jerry
14:58That's sugar, baby
14:59What do you think about that?
15:00Woo!
15:01You know, this caramel
15:01It's non-dairy
15:02And it's pure sugar
15:03And it being in an airtight container
15:05It can last months outside of refrigeration
15:07It's sugar
15:08Just in a whole different form
15:10Ha-ha!
15:12That's the thing about being a moonshiner
15:13You've got to be flexible
15:14And versatile
15:15And think
15:16He didn't have the money
15:17Which would have been great
15:18But instead, he has a barrel of caramel
15:19In my mind, that's as good as money
15:21Because I'm going to have to spend money
15:22On sugar anyway
15:23This is a whole barrel full of it
15:26Look at that
15:27I guess the big thing is
15:29Let's see what it tastes like
15:33She's tacky
15:43Whoa
15:44That's sweet, man
15:45That's sweet
15:46See, the first thing we need to do
15:47Is let's get some of this heated down
15:48So I'm going to grab some water
15:49Okay
15:50If you grab that pot sitting over there
15:51I'm going to get it on the stovetop
15:53Get this stuff better down
15:54To see how much sugar we actually have
15:55Okay
15:56Sounds good to me
15:59So the way we're going to check the sugar content
16:01In this thing
16:01Is just simply use the hydrometer
16:03Take one pound of caramel
16:05To one gallon of water
16:06Melt it down into a sweet liquid
16:08And check the sugar content
16:09That way to see how much above
16:11Regular sugar we may be
16:13In a normal situation
16:15We usually just take one pound of sugar
16:17To one gallon of water
16:18Mix it up
16:19And we've got our sugar content
16:20Our ratio, so to speak
16:22For our mash
16:23So we're just going to do the same thing here
16:24With this caramel
16:25One pound of the caramel
16:27To one gallon of water
16:28To see where we're at
16:29In comparison
16:36Oh god
16:37That's caramel water dude
16:39Oh that's sweet
16:41That right there
16:42Is going to make us money
16:46What's it look like
16:47I can't see
16:48But nothing but colors
16:49I mean this is exactly
16:50Equal to sugar
16:51A one to one ratio
16:52That's exactly the sugar content
16:54That we have in this liquid
16:55And now we've got
16:57Trying to figure out
16:57What we're going to do with it
16:58Because it is caramel
17:00You know I don't really know
17:01At this present time
17:02What we're fixing to do
17:03Well I mean how about
17:04A candied apple
17:04I mean apples are in season
17:05This time of year
17:07Candied apples are good man
17:08But what are we going to do
17:10Make a bunch of candied apple liquor
17:11And take it to the frigging fair
17:13Or something
17:13Where's the nearest carnival
17:14Going on at right now
17:15I don't think there is one
17:17You know
17:17I mean you know
17:19Like in a candy bar
17:21You know they use caramel
17:22And nuts
17:23I just know that we've got
17:24To put something with it
17:25That's going to make it
17:25A good premium alcohol
17:27That somebody's going to want
17:28Hold on just a minute
17:29I might
17:30I just might
17:32Have an idea
17:33What if we do
17:35Caramel pecan pie
17:37I mean the pecan pie
17:38Would be good this time of year
17:39Coming into the fall
17:40And we're coming
17:41Close to the holidays
17:43Everybody would buy that
17:44This is it
17:45This is what we got to make
17:46We've got to get it sold
17:48I think this is a go
17:49Let's go find some pecans
17:57Right now I'm on my way
17:58To this motel
17:59Where this guy's been calling
18:00To rat me out from
18:01Trying to make us go to prison
18:03That makes me want to
18:04Choke us some bitch
18:05I got to put a stop
18:06With this somehow
18:07Found out that this guy
18:08Snitched out a lot of people
18:09I ain't the only one
18:10Apparently he's been calling
18:12From this family in motel
18:13And he's been showing up
18:14After five o'clock
18:15This guy comes around
18:16A few times a week
18:17About this time of day
18:19Today I'm going to be here
18:21My plan right now
18:22Is to follow him
18:23See where he's going
18:24What he's up to
18:25Anything I can find out about it
18:29We're going to pull in over here
18:32Do a little stakeout
18:33And if I saw a gun
18:35Comes through there
18:35We're going to be
18:37Paying attention
18:39Hey I love hunting
18:40It's kind of like
18:41Sitting in a damn deer stand
18:42Waiting on a deer to show up
18:43We're just waiting on a man
18:45Hopefully he'll come over there
18:46And use that phone right there
18:47And we'll be sitting here
18:48Waiting on him
18:49Find out where he goes
18:51What he's up to
18:53We're going to put a stop to it
18:55Normally I drive a giant red pickup truck
18:57Sticks out like a sore thumb
18:59Borrowed my buddy's jeep
19:00I got to be incognito
19:02I can see the phone from here
19:04But all I got to do
19:05Is look at this right here
19:06And you won't be able to tell
19:06I'm even over here
19:07He drives a gray truck
19:09We know that
19:09Because we watched that surveillance footage
19:12We know he's coming
19:13A couple times a week
19:15Seems like this guy's
19:16Kind of got a pattern
19:17He comes in the afternoons
19:18Which leads us to believe
19:19He's a working man
19:20He's getting off work
19:21And he's coming to use this phone
19:22At a certain time
19:22Chances are
19:23He's going to be back
19:24With that phone again
19:25Mark and Digger got a run
19:26They're trying to finish up right now
19:28Or they'd be here with me doing this
19:30So I'm going to do the homework
19:31I'm going to figure out
19:32What the deal is
19:33The guy's going to be coming through
19:34Like he normally does
19:36And we're going to be sitting here
19:36Waiting on it
19:37But we're on a manhunt
19:48We're going to have to keep our nose
19:49And our clothes clean son
19:51I'm telling you right now
19:52Well it's obviously
19:53We know we can't go get our normal supplies
19:55In a normal place
19:56I got a buddy down here in South Carolina
19:58We can pick these pecans up from
19:59We're on our way to get our pecans
20:01For our pecan pie moonshine
20:02At an out of the way spot
20:04That Jerry knows about
20:04Well it's always risky
20:06Buying mashed ingredients
20:06Because it can raise suspicions
20:08But with this reward poster
20:09Out there reminding Jerry's picture on it
20:11We've got to be extra cautious
20:12We've got to get this run done
20:14We've got to get these ingredients
20:16Get them back
20:16You know I've got to get $10,000
20:18Made up quick
20:19I'm fixing to make the liquor
20:21And go buy my home place back
20:22My home place is on the market in Mississippi
20:24I cannot let this slip through my fingers
20:26I've got to try to get it bought quick
20:28Here we are
20:29The nut farm
20:31I've come up with the idea
20:32To use some pecans
20:33To make an authentic pecan pie moonshine
20:35Because my mother used to make
20:37Pecan pie drizzle with hot caramel
20:39And it would make you lick your eyebrows
20:41It's a little wet out there ain't it?
20:42It is
20:42I've got plenty of nuts in here
20:44That's for sure
20:44They do don't they?
20:47That's what we're looking for ain't it?
20:48Nice pecan
20:49Can I have it?
20:50Hey sir
20:50Notice the pecans here
20:51Enjoying some of that good flavor
20:53Yes sir
20:53Would you happen to have any more
20:55Than what's sitting here?
20:56Yes sir
20:57How much would you like?
20:58I'd say 50 pounds is all we need
21:00Shelled pecans cost a lot more
21:01Than unshelled pecans
21:02We're going to buy 50 pounds
21:04Of unshelled pecans
21:05Just to save us some money
21:07You know at that volume
21:08It's a significant difference in price
21:09Just means a whole lot more work
21:11For me and Jerry to get mashed in
21:12Pretty interesting
21:13These machines over here
21:15That's our cracker
21:16So what do you think
21:17You'll be willing to
21:17Crack these things for us?
21:19Yeah I can crack them
21:19Turns out this guy's got
21:20A pecan cracking machine
21:22He's going to crack these things
21:23For us for free
21:24That's half of the work done
21:25For me and Jerry
21:26All we got to do
21:27Is peel the rest of the shell
21:28Off these babies
21:29To get them mashed in
21:30We're saving time and money
21:32Fire that thing up
21:35Watch my thing Jerry
21:36Oh look at it
21:37It's picking them up
21:38Are y'all doing these pecans again?
21:44Pecan pies
21:44Pecan pies
21:46Yes
21:46Yeah
21:46We're making good pecan pies
21:48I just simply told him
21:49Look we're going to make
21:50Pecan pies
21:51Pass them out to our
21:52Friends and family
21:53And that is no lie
21:54Pecan pie
21:55Here we come baby
21:56Except for it's going to be
21:57In liquid form
21:58Thank you buddy
21:59Yes sir
22:03That's a lot of pecans
22:05We got our work cut out
22:06For us Jerry
22:06You know nobody wants
22:08To shell 50 pounds
22:09Of anything
22:09But now these things
22:10Are cracked
22:11That's going to save us
22:11A heck of a lot of time
22:12Boy we got them
22:13In that way
22:15Which I need
22:16If we's going to get
22:16This stuff mashed in
22:17And sold
22:18ASAP
22:24That's going to be
22:24Always able to
22:25End up getting
22:25These pecans pre-cracked
22:26It's going to take
22:27Forever man
22:28It's going to take
22:29A good minute
22:30That's for sure
22:30Man it's kind of
22:32Wrong on the
22:32Fun print there
22:33But hey
22:34We're doing
22:34What we got to do here
22:36There's got to be
22:37A trick to
22:38This little ordeal
22:40I don't know
22:40That's squirrels
22:41I tell you what
22:42It's going to make
22:43Some good alky rub
22:44Right here
22:44And get that
22:45Down payment
22:46Put down on the house
22:47Yeah
22:48Man I'm telling you
22:49Right now
22:49I'm worried
22:49To death about that
22:51I would be too man
22:52It's not very often
22:54You get a chance
22:54To get your old
22:55Home place
22:55Back like that
22:57That's right
23:00I tell you what
23:01This is taking
23:02An awful long time
23:03Man it's just
23:04I figured we'd already
23:05Had at least a half
23:06A bucket done already
23:07Oh it don't look
23:08Like we're getting
23:08Nowhere with these
23:09Things
23:10We can't mash in
23:12Shells nuts
23:13And all
23:13Because the
23:14Tandons in here
23:14Would totally ruin
23:15The flavor of our
23:16Moonshine here
23:17To give the shine
23:18A woody
23:19Bitter taste
23:19It'll be just like
23:20Drinking tree bark
23:21My fingers are already
23:22Getting sore
23:23Yeah mine too
23:23These shells hurt
23:24When you go to
23:25Poking your fingers
23:27You know I tell you
23:27What this process
23:28Has been really slow
23:29If we sit here
23:29And try to thumb
23:30These things out all day
23:31We're going to be here
23:31For two days
23:35Well man I tell you
23:36What
23:36I think we try to
23:37Grind these things up
23:38And put them in water
23:38And see if this shell
23:39Will actually separate
23:40Or float different
23:41Than what the nut does
23:42I'm hoping that
23:43One of them is
23:43Densier than water
23:44So that it'll sink
23:45And the other one
23:46Is less denser than water
23:47So that it'll float
23:48That way we have
23:48A natural separation
23:49Of the two
23:50If not
23:50I don't know
23:51What we're going to do
23:52You got a grinder
23:53I do have a grinder
23:54So to speed process
23:55Up these pecans
23:56Jerry's come up
23:57With an idea
23:57Maybe we put them
23:58In a grinder
23:59I'll just get you in here
24:00You ready?
24:01Yeah I'm ready
24:01We're nut-busting now
24:03Ain't we?
24:04Grind them down
24:05To a finer
24:06Granulated pecan
24:07Shells and all
24:08We'll just see what happens
24:10Look at that
24:12What's wrong with that?
24:13That worked out pretty good
24:13If that would work
24:15Here we go
24:29See it looks like
24:30The actual good part
24:31Of the nuts
24:31Coming back up
24:32Yeah
24:33We got cracked out already
24:34Jerry that's all
24:35Pecan dude
24:36No shell
24:37That's what we're
24:38Looking for right there
24:38And all I can see on top
24:40Is just mainly
24:40Just the good meaty
24:41Nut part
24:42We just don't want
24:43The tannins and stuff
24:44Left behind
24:45In our mash
24:46To give
24:47Possibly give this
24:48Drink a bitter flavor
24:49So hey that's good
24:50That's good news
24:51I'm happy with that man
24:52I'm going to tell you
24:53What this right here
24:53Is a big win for us
24:54This is going to save us
24:55A buttload of time
24:56If we can crack these things
24:57Just run these things
24:58Through a grinder
24:59Bust them down real good
25:00Fill them in some buckets
25:01Man our day's finished
25:04I think that's going to
25:05Look good right there
25:06Can't beat that
25:08Oh yeah
25:10Next
25:10One bucket down
25:12And however many more takes
25:13We've decided
25:14We're going to leave
25:15These buckets full of water
25:16With the pecans in there
25:17Overnight
25:18When we come back
25:19To the shop
25:20We're going to skim
25:21All the good pieces
25:22Of pecan off the top
25:24Discard the liquid
25:25And the shells
25:26That's in these buckets
25:27Hope you ain't got
25:28No squirrels loose
25:29Nah
25:30Not in here
25:30First thing in the morning
25:32Is to the still site
25:33Getting them mashed in
25:34And it's off to the races
25:35See you in the morning
25:44Puss
25:44Regardless of what happens
25:46We've got to run this liquor
25:47Yep
25:48So while Josh takes out
25:49The motel
25:50For this snitch
25:51That's calling the anonymous
25:52Complaints on other moonshiners
25:54Trying to get them caught
25:55Me and Mark
25:55Got to run this run
25:56Of apple wheat
25:57Or that mash
25:58Is going to ruin it
25:58Once we get this run
26:00Of liquor done
26:00Then we'll go address
26:01This problem with the rat
26:02We need a payday
26:04If we don't get a payday
26:05We won't be able to
26:06For no ammunition
26:07To kill this son of a bitch
26:10This guy has
26:11Caused Josh a lot
26:12Of damage and misery
26:13He's had his whole
26:14Still site taken away
26:16Because of this damn rat
26:18And Josh will do
26:19Whatever it takes
26:20To get him
26:20Let's see what it looks like
26:22Puss
26:22See if we've made
26:23Any liquor
26:24Or damn buttermilk
26:25Oh look yonder
26:28Oh yeah
26:30Oh it smells good
26:32Don't it
26:32I got it
26:33Tastes wonderful
26:33It's still working
26:35A little bit
26:35Well it's gassing off
26:36That's what you call
26:37A cap part
26:40Get ready to pump
26:41This mash over
26:44I'm ready
26:45Send it to me
26:47Here we go
26:48Boom
26:50We've still got liquor
26:51It needs to be run now
26:52Apple mash
26:53Isn't real friendly
26:54To stay very good long
26:57We've got to get
26:58This run done
27:00We don't have any money
27:01To operate off of
27:02It ain't been an easy year
27:04I think it ought to be close
27:06It's hotter than a bitch
27:07Wolf and a horse far
27:09Oh hell I thought
27:10That scared me to death
27:11I thought that was Kelly
27:12That's Josh calling
27:13He might have a little pay dirt
27:15Hello
27:15Hey
27:16Hey man
27:17Hey old boy's back
27:18The hen's in the hen house
27:20He's here
27:22He in that damn gray truck
27:23Yes sir
27:24Shoot
27:25In the head
27:26I wish I could
27:29Hopefully we can
27:29Shut this rat down
27:31Once and for all
27:32We just want to make liquor
27:33And be left alone
27:34You got eyes on him
27:36Yeah I'm gonna find him
27:37I'll find out what's up
27:37I'll get back
27:38Man I ain't gonna lose him
27:39Neither
27:40Well you hang in there with him
27:42We'll get up with him
27:43We'll see if we can follow him
27:44To wherever he's going
27:45You just keep your eyes on him boss
27:46All right
27:47I'll call you off
27:48Anything changes
27:49Yes sir
27:52That's him right there
27:54He's back over there
27:55Using the phone right now
27:56I guarantee he's
27:57Sensing somebody else out
28:00Knowing that he's probably
28:01Rattin' somebody out
28:02It's hard to even swallow that
28:03But this has gotta stop
28:05He's getting back in his truck
28:07Looks like he's about to drive
28:09While he is driving off
28:12This rat bastard
28:13Now that I know it's him
28:14And he's here
28:15Last thing I'm gonna do
28:16Is let this fella
28:17Out of my sight
28:19I'm gonna stay way back here
28:20Keep a low profile
28:22Just kind of tail him
28:23See where he's going
28:24What he's doing
28:26Find out as much information
28:27About him as I can
28:29Hopefully figure out a way
28:30To get this son of a gun
28:31To quit ratting people out
28:33Back in the day
28:34He did something like this
28:36You come up missing real quick
28:38I don't know what it's gonna take
28:39What we're gonna have to do
28:40But something's gonna happen
28:52Watch under
28:53All right
28:56It is apple brandy time
28:58Apple brandy time, baby
28:59With all the tariffs
29:01On American liquor right now
29:02There's suddenly a huge market
29:05For tax-free backwoods
29:07American liquor
29:08And today's the day
29:09We run our apple brandy mash
29:11Henry's got an idea
29:13On a way to make this
29:14As American
29:15As it possibly can be
29:16Let's put a little bump to it, man
29:18I got this vanilla
29:19Got these cinnamons
29:21And what liquor's more American
29:23Than apple pie?
29:24I'll tell you what
29:25As good as we ground it up
29:27I ain't afraid of using
29:29This submarine pot
29:30Because I don't think
29:31There's gonna be anything to scorch
29:33All right, that's there, Henry
29:37Damn
29:39Got me that time
29:40Did it blow the top off?
29:41Yeah, it did
29:42Yeah, I ain't
29:45That won't stop us
29:47Henry's covered in sticky
29:48Yeah
29:49Being as this thing's low
29:50And it's got a lot of power
29:52It sucked this hose
29:53Right up to the side of the tank
29:55Look, there you go
29:56I'm glad it bounced off your head
29:57Or we might not have found it
29:58Yeah
29:59I feel the pain, too
30:00Yeah, I bet you do
30:01We got some cinnamon
30:03And we've got some vanilla beans
30:05Now, instead of putting these things
30:06Over in the pot
30:07Where the cinnamon and the vanilla
30:08Could overpower our apples
30:10What we're gonna do
30:11Is we're gonna put this stuff
30:12Over into our doubler
30:14And we're gonna create
30:15A clear apple pie
30:16I say we cap her on up
30:18I think we're getting
30:19To the ethanol
30:20So, yeah
30:20Let's cap that baby up
30:21Getting pretty close
30:22Yeah, yeah
30:23Cap her on up
30:23We've done everything
30:25In our power
30:26To make this a top-notch
30:27Apple pie brandy
30:28And I think we made
30:30The right choice
30:30With killing this natural yeast
30:32With hot water
30:33I just hope it didn't damage
30:35The apple flavor enough
30:36To turn our apple pie
30:37Into applesauce
30:39Hey, fellas
30:40We got liquor over here
30:45Whew
30:46Lord, she's on up there
30:47Move out of my way, son
30:48But I can taste all of it
30:50Vanilla, cinnamon
30:51We got this liquor
30:52Coming out of the worm
30:53Over here
30:53And I'll tell you
30:54The cinnamon
30:55And the vanilla
30:56Are coming in
30:57And nice notes in there
30:58Yeah, it's a little
30:59Strong right now
30:59The more it runs
31:00The weaker it's gonna get
31:01Then we blend that
31:02Into the proofing barrel
31:03That's gonna melt it, baby
31:04Right on out
31:05Perfect just the way
31:06We want it
31:07We're gonna have to wait
31:07Till it gets proofed down
31:08A little bit
31:09To see what our actual
31:10Finished product's gonna be
31:14All right
31:15Another one down
31:20You just want a hint of it
31:21To come through
31:22A good apple
31:22With some vanilla
31:23And some cinnamon
31:24On it
31:29I'm telling you, man
31:30You just barely
31:31Tasted cinnamon
31:33And barely tasted vanilla
31:35And the apple's
31:36Coming through real good
31:39I think we got it, Paul
31:41Smells good
31:42I feel good about it
31:43I do, too
31:45We've got this stuff
31:46Proofed down
31:47It is absolutely amazing
31:50It is truly clear
31:51Apple pie in a jar
31:52Well, so I got
31:53Nine gallons worth
31:54Of jars right here
31:55I figure if I take
31:56That up there with Tim
31:58Show it to his buyer
31:59And see what he thinks
32:00That'll be a
32:01Doggone good sample set
32:03For him to go up there
32:04Pass out to his
32:05Maybe other higher end
32:07Buddies that he might
32:08Be distributing to
32:09I'm gonna take this stuff
32:10Up there with Tim
32:11And see what the buyer
32:13Thinks of it
32:13But I'm gonna tell you
32:14Right now
32:15If they don't buy this
32:16They ain't got no clue
32:17What good brandy is
32:34I know this is the rat
32:36This is the guy
32:36That snitched this out
32:37My plan is to follow
32:39This guy around
32:39Find out what he's doing
32:40Find out anything I can
32:43To be able to put
32:44To stop to this
32:45Pull across that field
32:46Looks like he's pulling
32:48Out there to that garage
32:49Out there
32:50Pull behind these trees
32:52So he can't even tell
32:53We're here
32:53I'm trying my best
32:54To keep a low profile
32:55And not be spotted
32:56By this damn
32:57Narcan ass piece of
32:58I'm gonna try
32:59These dang red lights
33:00Off
33:01I'll stick out
33:01Like a sore thumb
33:06Looks like he's
33:07Pulled down there
33:08And he's hitching up
33:09To a trailer right now
33:16Can't really tell
33:17What he's doing
33:17Looks like he's carrying
33:18Something out in the trailer
33:21I'll bet you
33:22A hundred dollars
33:23That's damn liquor
33:26I can't say for sure
33:27But it's looking like
33:28It's some bitch
33:28That's selling liquor
33:31I gotta let Mark
33:32And Digger know
33:32About this
33:33I'm gonna drop a pen
33:34To them
33:34Show them where we're at
33:35I'm gonna call Digger
33:36Right now
33:40Digger
33:40Hey man
33:41What do you need?
33:42I'm broke down
33:43Out here by this
33:44Blocked building
33:44You follow me?
33:45Yeah
33:46I'm calling Digger
33:47But I'm definitely
33:48Gonna be talking to code
33:49Because I know
33:50People are listening
33:50You need to come out there
33:52Yeah
33:52Come on, come on
33:53I dropped you a pen
33:56Alright
33:56It tells me
33:58I'm 22 minutes from you
33:59I'll be there
33:59As quickly as I can
34:00Alright
34:01He's closed the garage doors
34:02Turn the lights off
34:04And he's getting in the truck
34:05I dropped a pen
34:06To Mark and Digger
34:07Because I know
34:07The guy's not gonna be there
34:09If they're gonna go
34:10And check it out
34:10This is the time
34:12Tell you one thing
34:13We're gonna follow him
34:14And find out what he's up to
34:15What he's got going on
34:16If he's selling liquor
34:17Tonight
34:18We're gonna know about it
34:20We need to lay low
34:21Until he goes by
34:22We're gonna follow him
34:26He's over that hill now
34:31I'm following somebody
34:32Night time
34:32With headlights
34:33Without him seeing me
34:34But I damn sure
34:35We don't wanna lose him
34:35There's no telling
34:37Where this guy's headed
34:38Or even if he's got liquor
34:40But I gotta figure it out
34:43I don't know where in the world
34:44He's going to
34:45But if he's got a dang
34:46Trailing a load of liquor
34:47Like I think he does
34:49We definitely don't wanna lose him
34:52I wanna figure out
34:52Where he's going with this liquor
34:54Who he's selling it to
34:55What the deal is
34:57He ain't getting away
35:07Look here Puss
35:08This pretty little fellow's getting hit
35:09With the sunlight right on them red leaves
35:11Looks a tiny bit like a pot plant
35:13Don't it?
35:15What's making his leaves turn off on him
35:17Like that and turn up red?
35:19See this is pretty ingrained
35:21Yep
35:21That's new growth
35:22But these aphids here
35:24They're eating all the nutrients
35:26Of this plant
35:26Well it can't survive
35:28All them little aphids
35:29Yeah
35:29Well they'll punch little holes
35:31In that stem
35:32And suck all that sap out
35:34Well
35:34They end up killing their host
35:36This new growth here
35:38There ain't no aphids on that
35:39Uh uh
35:39It ain't attracted them yet
35:42If it gets plenty of sunshine
35:43It'll survive
35:44Made them turn a pretty color ain't it
35:46Yep
35:46But that ain't no good
35:47They'll kill that little tree
35:50Down
35:50Well let's move on
35:52It is what it is
35:52The circle of life
35:53Aphids has gotta eat too
35:55Aphids has gotta eat too
35:57We cannot stop nature
36:05I don't know
36:06Where in the hell
36:07We're going to
36:08But we're almost
36:09In my neck of the woods
36:10I got this snitch ratting me out
36:12And supposedly he's ratting out
36:14A lot of moonshiners around here
36:15I'm gonna follow this rat
36:17See where he goes
36:18He's cost me my underground
36:19Steel site
36:20All my distilling equipment
36:22A ton of money
36:23And a boatload of cells
36:25You don't mess with a man's livelihood
36:27And expect to get away with it
36:31It went down that driveway right there
36:37I can barely see him down through there
36:43Looks like there's a car pulling right up to a trailer
36:50I can't really tell what they're doing
36:53Looks like they damn unloaded a box into that damn vehicle
36:57Definitely unloaded a box into that vehicle
37:00Bet you $100 he's selling liquor
37:02That's gotta be damn liquor
37:04It ain't long before cars start pulling in there
37:06And I can see from a distance
37:08That he's taking boxes out of his trailer
37:10Putting them in those vehicles
37:12He's definitely selling moonshine
37:14It might not even be worth drinking
37:16To tell you the truth
37:17Because it's fake
37:18There's another vehicle
37:20Just pulling down there
37:22That's the third one
37:23And just the last little bit
37:26That's five cases of whiskey
37:27We've seen himself right there
37:29One thing's for sure
37:30This can't keep happening
37:31We've got to figure out a way
37:32To take this guy out
37:39What did he tell you
37:40When he called you back?
37:42I'm broke down up here
37:43At this block building
37:46Is all he said
37:47That's all he said
37:47Well that's good
37:49You know what he meant
37:50We got word from Josh
37:52He'd staked out the phone at the motel
37:54Sure enough
37:55The rat showed back up
37:56And Josh followed him
37:58He gave us some information
38:00On the location that he left from
38:02So we're going to go check that place out
38:05You know the thing about it is
38:07He wouldn't have sent you this pen digger
38:09If he was somebody still there
38:11If that guy's left
38:12Josh is still following him
38:14I guarantee you he is
38:15Good
38:17Go up
38:18Up jump the devil
38:19There's a down block building puss
38:21That's on the one I see right here
38:24Get up there before I lose my nerves
38:34I tell you
38:36Looks kind of deserted out here don't it
38:39See no cameras anywhere Hattie
38:41It's our job out in front of us now
38:43We've got to get in this garage
38:45We've got to figure out as much stuff
38:47As we can about this guy
38:50Oh yeah we're in business
38:52I've seen a ladder laying right back there
38:53When we come around
38:54I'll go fetch a ladder
38:59You hold that ladder for me to us
39:01And I sling my leg over up here
39:05Let me see what I got
39:06There's a sink right there
39:08Step in that sink
39:09It'll hold you
39:11Good
39:13Let me see
39:14I'll let you in
39:21Looky here
39:22Look over here
39:24There's his temper and water Joe
39:26Yep
39:29Look at that look here
39:31Boxes of Johners
39:34Oh look at there
39:38I know what that is
39:39That'll light you world up
39:43God that's 190 proof
39:45Look here at all these flavorings Hattie
39:47Look what's empty right here
39:49Corn
39:51This is nothing more than a mockery of the craft that I dearly love
39:55I mean these people what they do
39:56They go out
39:57They buy them a bottle of cheap GNS
40:01Grain neutral spirits
40:02It's 190 proof industrial alcohol
40:05Water it down
40:06Flavor it down
40:07Then go out and tell everybody I'm a moonshiner
40:09Well no you're nothing more than a fraud and a fake
40:13What's that right there
40:15The damn work line here digger
40:17Look yonder
40:18Highway chemicals
40:20Hell
40:20We know where that's at
40:23That's that place down there
40:25It makes hand sanitizer and that degreaser
40:28Really?
40:28That's what they use
40:29That's what they're
40:29I thought they always used like acetone or something
40:32But hell they're using a cheaper alternative
40:34GNS
40:35Industrial alcohol is used for everything on the planet
40:38From medicines to cosmetics to cleaning supplies
40:41This guy's stealing it from where he works
40:44Doctoring up a little bit and selling it his true homemade liquor
40:47He's nothing more than a thief and a liar and a rat
40:50We need to set this boy up on at least an 1129 vacation
40:55I ain't sure of a lot but one thing I can promise you
40:57This man ain't gonna walk around a free man much longer
41:02Next time on the season finale of Moonshiners
41:06Last time we came Chico there was a god gate
41:10Tonight we're gonna make our first delivery to a Canadian buyer at the airport

41:19The thief fake liquor seller
41:21So what's that got to do with me?
41:23We got a plan to get this thief busted
